Distance Formula - Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Bai Biqing woke up very early the next day. By the time she finished making breakfast and knocked on Su Yanshi’s door, the other woman was already awake.
The Alpha’s state today was a bit strange. Su Yanshi accepted the breakfast absentmindedly, offered a thin-lipped smile, and thanked her in a soft voice.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Biqing frowned.
“Nothing, just didn’t sleep well.” Su Yanshi patted her cheeks, forcing herself to perk up. “Teacher Bai, your painting is very beautiful.”
Bai Biqing remained silent for a few seconds, her gaze gradually turning cool. She scanned the room but couldn’t find any trace of the painting she had given her, which was quite unlike Su Yanshi’s usual personality.
“Yanshi,” Bai Biqing turned her head, her expression guarded as she spoke. “What I painted was you.”
Su Yanshi drew in a sharp breath. She stared down at her screen; the chat window still displayed the message Bai Biqing had sent her last night asking for a day off—Bai Biqing was going on a blind date today.
And with an Alpha, no less. She didn’t even know if it was a man or a woman. What if they had impure intentions?
Her mind grew inexplicably irritable, her brow furrowed in a constant micro-frown. She switched off her phone and tossed it violently onto the bed. Taking a deep breath, she kept her back to Bai Biqing, her voice sounding muffled and bitter: “Mhm, it’s lovely. I like it very much. I was afraid of getting it dirty, so I put it away.”
Su Yanshi blinked and turned around, staring intently at Bai Biqing: “Teacher Bai, don’t you have an appointment? Is there enough time? I have an early scene, so I’m heading to the set first. You don’t need to worry about me.”
After saying her piece, she put on her mask and left, leaving only a puzzled Bai Biqing to contemplate the untouched breakfast before her.
She flipped through yesterday’s chat records and examined them carefully, but she didn’t feel there was anything inappropriate.
“Yanshi, I need to go see someone tomorrow, so I need to take a day off.”
“Okay, I’ll arrange everything. You go ahead and handle your business.”
Bai Biqing’s brow remained tightly knit as she murmured: “Where exactly did things go wrong?”
The Beta couldn’t come up with a conclusion, to the point that even when Su Shang dragged her to get her hair and makeup done, she couldn’t settle her mind.
The stylist had asked her about her hairstyle several times, but Bai Biqing hadn’t answered, staring off into space with her eyes lowered.
It wasn’t until Su Shang kicked her chair that she asked suspiciously, “What are you thinking about? They’re asking you a question.”
Bai Biqing let out an “Ah” and replied half-heartedly, “Just do whatever.”
She suddenly snapped her head up: “Aren’t we just meeting a buddy? Is it necessary to be this grandiose?”
Today, a good friend they had played with since childhood was returning to the country. They had gone abroad two years ago, and since their partner happened to be in Deep Sea City, they thought they’d all come out for a meal.
Su Shang was wearing a cold and glamorous “older sister” makeup look today, her aura holding steady. Dressed in a red fishtail dress, she ignored the cold and gave a sneering laugh: “What do you know? This is called a sense of ceremony!”
Bai Biqing gave a dry laugh, too lazy to deal with her, and reluctantly focused enough to let the stylist work: “Keep it simple. No need to make it too flashy; I’m not meeting the Emperor.”
The Omega snorted coldly and silently tapped away on her phone at lightning speed: “The target has arrived. Proceed according to plan.”
“Got it. Remember to pay up.”
“I won’t short-change you.”
Su Shang glanced at Bai Biqing from the corner of her eye, tucked her phone away as if nothing had happened, and smoothed her hair in a guilty cover-up.
Looking through the mirror, Bai Biqing felt that something was definitely not right.
The rendezvous point was a very famous restaurant in Deep Sea City. Just as Bai Biqing and Su Shang were led into the private room, the Beta was hit by a sickeningly sweet scent of perfume that made her cough.
The long-unseen Alpha was taller than her, wearing sky-high heels and a red tight-fitting dress that perfectly accentuated her curves. She curled her red lips and blew a kiss toward Bai Biqing, then immediately lunged forward to hug the Beta, forcibly burying the other’s head in the crook of her neck. She squeezed her voice into a high pitch and said, “Darling, I missed you so much.”
On the side, the quick-handed Su Shang recorded this exact scene and rapidly posted it to her WeChat Moments, setting the visibility to “Only Su Yanshi.”
Su Shang: “What a coincidence, turns out it’s an old friend. [Video]”
Once it was done, she instantly let out a sigh of relief. Even the clumsiest of deceptions is enough to fool someone who is currently flustered and deeply invested.
Because people only notice the things they care about.
