Distance Formula - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
When Bai Biqing woke up, she saw the Hot Search. She didn’t feel much about it and prepared to repost it as previously discussed. After a casual browse, she found that Su Yanshi had already reposted it half an hour ago.
Su Yanshi V: “Thank you, Teacher Baishi! Look at my drawing! [Image]”
The comment section was uniform: This is a puppy, hhh.
Yanshi’s Little Wife: “I didn’t expect our Big Alpha husband to be a little puppy in Teacher Baishi’s eyes. This puppy is drawn so cutely! /Dog head.”
This comment was pushed to the top. Su Yanshi replied below it: “This is a wolf!”
Bai Biqing burst into a laugh. She murmured softly: “How could this be a wolf?”
Smiling, she reposted that specific comment…
Baishi V: “This friend guessed wrong. Deduct one point.”
After reposting, she ignored it. She got out of bed, freshened up, chose a simple set of sportswear, and packed away the painting. Just as she opened the door, she saw Su Yanshi squatting on the floor. Startled, she took two steps back.
“Yanshi?”
Su Yanshi lifted her head. She was wearing a mask and a hat, with her zipper pulled all the way to the top. Because of her slightly swollen face, she looked a bit comical. She stood up abruptly but staggered for a moment as her head spun. She pulled down her mask and gave a goofy smile: “Teacher Bai!”
Bai Biqing instinctively reached out a hand but then pulled it back. She lowered her head with an amused look and asked, “What are you doing? Ambushing me?”
“That’s right.” Su Yanshi was in an excellent mood. She held up the breakfast in her hand. “Teacher Bai, I’m treating you to breakfast!”
The plastic bag in her hand rustled. Inside were white porridge and custard buns—mostly light flavors. She continued: “I noticed your tastes have been quite light lately, so I just picked a couple of things.”
Bai Biqing took the bag and thanked her.
“Why so early?” She stepped aside to let Su Yanshi in.
Su Yanshi strolled in while looking at her phone: “Because I want to go out and play.”
Bai Biqing placed the breakfast on the table. Hearing this, she couldn’t help but curl her lips: “When are we switching hotels?”
Because the filming locations were far apart, they needed to move hotels.
“I’m fine with whenever. Let’s take our things together in a bit.”
Because Hu Liyang had to reshoot some scenes, she had rushed over last night. By comparison, the two of them were much more relaxed.
Bai Biqing had no objections: “Okay.”
The Beta ate very quietly. Su Yanshi sat in front of her and watched her finish. Li Zhuonan had just told her to go to Weibo; clicking in, she saw Bai Biqing’s repost. The Alpha looked at it for a few moments, feeling somewhat dissatisfied, but still replied below: “This person is definitely not me.”
Su Yanshi held her phone up for Bai Biqing to see: “Teacher Bai, you’re not leaving me any face at all.”
Bai Biqing glanced at it, knowing exactly what was happening: “Just telling the truth.”
The Alpha knitted her brows and muttered in a small voice: “So I really am a canine, huh.”
She lowered her head to scroll through Weibo, momentarily failing to notice the gaze Bai Biqing cast toward her.
By the time all matters were settled, it was nearly noon. Su Yanshi lamented how fast time flew, but Bai Biqing felt it was just right. She sat in the driver’s seat: “Let’s go. I’ll take you to that restaurant I visited before.”
Last time she had sat in the main hall with Su Shang; this time, she had specifically booked a private room.
She turned the steering wheel: “Don’t you like desserts? This place is quite good, the atmosphere is nice, and you don’t have to worry about being photographed or anything.”
Su Yanshi didn’t play with her phone. She watched the scenery along the road: “Okay. Thank you for going to all this trouble.”
Bai Biqing gave an “Mhm” and looked at her sideways: “No, don’t flatter me.”
Unsure of what part of that exchange hit their funny bones, they suddenly looked at each other and laughed.
The restaurant was Western-style overall, playing soothing instrumental music. Bai Biqing took a general sweep and narrowed her eyes. The atmosphere today was different from last time; even the semi-real decorative flowers had been replaced with vibrant roses. She raised an eyebrow and leaned toward Su Yanshi: “Do you want to sit in the main hall?”
Su Yanshi: “Why?”
Bai Biqing’s fingertips toyed with a petal, brushing one off and placing it in Su Yanshi’s palm: “Maybe we can catch a proposal.”
Su Yanshi’s palm tightened. She lowered her head to sniff the petal, gave a shallow smile, and tilted her head: “Sure.”
The Beta sought out the restaurant manager; a request to switch from a private room to the hall was simple. They found a seat against the wall. Bai Biqing signaled that the food could be served.
“I ordered four dishes. The portions aren’t very large; save some room for dessert.”
Su Yanshi nodded: “Aren’t you eating?”
Bai Biqing shook her head: “No appetite.”
Hearing this, Su Yanshi’s expression became solemn, but she didn’t speak. She just lowered her head and found Su Shang’s chat box.
Su Yanshi: “Teacher Su, Teacher Bai hasn’t had much of an appetite lately. Do you know how her illness is progressing?”
Su Shang replied very quickly: “Illness?”
The other side paused: “Pale complexion, often sleepy, not eating much—that kind?”
Su Yanshi thought about it; it was a perfect match: “Yes.”
Su Shang: “Can you smell her pheromones?”
Su Yanshi: “No, she said it’s fine.”
Su Shang: “I see. She’s actually fine, don’t worry. I’m coming back tomorrow. Don’t tell her.”
Only upon seeing this did Su Yanshi faintly sense something was wrong. She let out a hiss and typed: “Okay.”
She put down her phone. As soon as she looked up, she met Bai Biqing’s scrutinizing gaze, though it softened in an instant: “Who were you chatting with? The food is here. Want to try some?”
Su Yanshi told a lie, avoiding Bai Biqing’s eyes: “With Brother Nan. He was asking about the progress of the filming.”
The Beta’s expression stiffened. She gave a lukewarm “Oh.” She glanced at a message Li Zhuonan had just sent to her own phone, said nothing, and silently placed a morsel of food in Su Yanshi’s bowl.
The Alpha finished the meal distractedly. After she ignored Bai Biqing calling her twice midway through, the Beta stopped speaking. Su Yanshi steadied her mind and expressed her apologies to Bai Biqing.
Bai Biqing said it was fine, but she had clearly turned cold. She signaled the waiter to bring the desserts before saying: “Eat. The taste is good.”
Su Yanshi fell silent. She took a deep breath, but ultimately said nothing more. With a face full of guilt, she stuffed a bite of dessert into her mouth. It looked beautiful and was quite sweet—exactly her taste, but right now, she was stuffing it into her mouth without tasting anything.
Her tongue couldn’t perceive anything except a sweetness that felt bitter. She just kept her head down, taking small bite after small bite.
Looking at the Alpha with the swollen face and low mood, Bai Biqing’s emotions finally softened. She poured a glass of water, tapped the table, and coaxed her gently: “Are you unhappy?”
Su Yanshi still didn’t look up: “No.”
“Then why won’t you look up at me?”
Su Yanshi pursed her lips: “Because I don’t want to. It’s my fault.”
Bai Biqing stared at her for a while, then suddenly reached out and squeezed her hand: “Yanshi, I’ve stopped being angry. Look at me, mhm?”
The Alpha didn’t move.
The two remained at a standstill. Su Yanshi could feel the sweat and heat in her palm. Suddenly, the other person tightened their grip and gave her hand a shake:
“Yanshi, look! They’re proposing.”
