Chapter 57: “You… Smell What? Pervert!”
They stayed in Snow City for about a week, playing and having fun, and returned contentedly.
Perhaps it was because of their intimacy, but Lin Anran became clingier than before, gluey, unable to leave Jiang Zhi’s sight for a moment.
If they had to separate for even a little while for some reason, Lin Anran would put on a pitiful expression that made it unbearable to leave her.
It gave Jiang Zhi a sweet kind of trouble.
“We can’t be stuck together 24 hours a day,” Jiang Zhi tried to reason with her: “You need some independent space, and I do too. That way, our relationship can develop healthily.”
Lin Anran was not a reasonable person: “I don’t need independent space, and neither do you. What is healthy development? I don’t understand, and I don’t want to understand.”
Jiang Zhi smiled helplessly: “I have to work. You can’t keep using your status to make me your assistant when in reality, I’m not doing any assistant work, but just spending every day playing around with you.”
Lin Anran ignored every word: “I don’t care. You don’t even like that job anyway, so why insist on going to work on time every day? It’s boring and a waste of time.”
“I don’t like it? I haven’t told you I dislike my job, have I?”
“But you haven’t said you like it either. If you like it, then tell me the reasons you like it. I’ll listen.”
Jiang Zhi tilted her head, thinking for a moment, and replied: “Excellent benefits, an easygoing boss, and colleagues who are easy to get along with. It would be hard for me to find a second job like this. There’s no reason not to like it.”
Lin Anran shook her head: “Those reasons are wrong. You’re just doing it for the money, not because you like the work itself.”
“But most people work for money,” Jiang Zhi chuckled: “I’m no exception.”
“You did need those jobs for survival before, but things are different now.”
“How are they different?”
Lin Anran analyzed seriously: “You want to earn money, but I have a lot of money. I can give it all to you. You don’t need to waste time and energy doing things you don’t like just for that salary, which isn’t even that much money.”
Jiang Zhi was stunned. Before she could say anything, Lin Anran continued:
“If you find not working boring, you can find something you’re truly interested in doing. I fully support you doing what you want, but I don’t support you doing a job just to earn money, especially one that doesn’t even pay much.”
Jiang Zhi fell into deep thought. If it wasn’t for money, setting aside the major premise of earning money, what should she be doing?
Jiang Zhi seemed never to have considered this question. Her former life circumstances didn’t allow her to ponder such things.
When basic material needs weren’t met, who had the time to think about the spiritual world?
“Do you have anything you like, besides money?” Lin Anran asked her.
“I don’t know…” Jiang Zhi shook her head.
She truly didn’t know. She didn’t seem to have any particular interests. Her days were poor and dull. The only brightness in her life was probably Lin Anran.
“How can a person not have anything they like or are interested in? Like me, I love shopping, collecting handbags, I love nail art, and I love pink and sparkly things. I have so many things I like. Think carefully; you must have some too.”
“Then… does liking to cook count?”
Lin Anran’s eyes brightened: “Of course it counts!”
Jiang Zhi: “Should I apply to be a chef?”
“What? No one would hire you as a chef with your skills.”
Jiang Zhi put her hands on her hips: “Are you saying my cooking is bad?”
Lin Anran pouted: “I wouldn’t say bad, but it’s very ordinary.”
Jiang Zhi pinched her cheek: “If you say that, I won’t cook for you anymore.”
Lin Anran got anxious: “No, you can’t do that! You can only cook for me, not for anyone else.”
Jiang Zhi shook her head and smiled.
“Did you hear me? You can’t cook for anyone else, only for me.”
“I heard you, I heard you. Only for our domineering Lin.”
Lin Anran glared at her: “Don’t call me strange names. I don’t like it.”
Jiang Zhi: “Understood. I won’t call you strange names, Lin Dislike.”
“You’re doing it again!”
Regarding whether or not she liked her current job, Jiang Zhi thought it was just a casual chat. She didn’t expect Lin Anran to take action the very next day.
A dozen courier packages were piled up in the living room.
Jiang Zhi asked in confusion: “What did you buy? Such a huge pile.”
Lin Anran sat cross-legged on the carpet, in the middle of the stack of packages, buried in unwrapping.
Seeing Jiang Zhi approach, she waved her over: “Come help me unpack. I can’t manage all of this myself.”
Jiang Zhi obeyed, sitting cross-legged next to her, helping her unpack.
“This is a phone stand, the short kind, for filming things on a table.”
“This is a camera tripod, the tall kind, for filming distant shots while standing.”
“This is a phone. I specifically searched online, and they say this brand of phone shoots very clear videos, perfect for recording.”
“This largest box is a computer. It’s too big; let’s unpack it later. The computer is mainly for video editing…”
Listening to her chatter and looking at the pile of unpacked items, Jiang Zhi guessed: “Are you going to film videos?”
Lin Anran didn’t even look up: “Why would I film videos? It’s you.”
Jiang Zhi pointed to herself: “Me?”
“Yes, you. Aren’t you always worried about working, feeling guilt if you spend all day playing with me and not working?” Lin Anran looked up at her:
“I’m not stupid; I noticed your little worry. You can’t even fully enjoy playing. It’s pathetic. Since you always feel guilty, I’ll find something for you to do.”
Jiang Zhi looked at the various filming equipment scattered on the floor and fell silent.
Lin Anran rarely asked for the other party’s opinion, always making decisions herself, but sometimes, her observations were incredibly meticulous.
She had even noticed Jiang Zhi’s slight guilt about not working, even though Jiang Zhi thought she had hidden it well.
A while ago, while scrolling through videos, Jiang Zhi had mentioned to Lin Anran that she found the cooking videos online very interesting and would like to film one herself someday.
It was a very casual remark, yet Lin Anran had taken it seriously.
In less than two days, she demonstrated incredible execution, buying everything needed for filming.
“You don’t need to go to work at the magazine agency anymore. You don’t like it anyway. My Jiang Yi should be doing things she likes.” Lin Anran brandished the phone stand.
“You decided all this for me, so there’s no room for refusal. You seem to have absolutely no intention of asking for my opinion.”
“I won’t ask! I won’t ask! Stop being so dramatic!”
Jiang Zhi rubbed her head, smoothing down her ruffled fur: “Speaking of which, even though you arranged all this for me, I’ve never filmed anything.”
“Even if I do film, I probably won’t become popular. If I don’t become popular, I won’t earn any money, and I might not even recoup the cost of the equipment.”
Lin Anran cut her off: “See? You’re talking about money again. Money is the one thing we don’t lack. You just need to do things that you like and that make you happy.”
Jiang Zhi looked at the floor full of equipment and then at the enthusiastically planning Lin Anran, her eyes brimming with feeling.
To say she wasn’t touched was definitely false; she was overwhelmed with emotion.
Lin Anran was helping her find something she liked, a potential career direction, and encouraging her to do it, to try it…
She used to think Lin Anran was a child, with a child’s temperament and personality. Jiang Zhi saw herself as the adult, taking care of Lin Anran.
In reality, the one who had been cared for all along was herself.
Lin Anran wasn’t the child; Jiang Zhi was.
Jiang Zhi pushed aside the courier boxes blocking her way, hugged Lin Anran, and gently rubbed her cheek against hers.
“I only casually mentioned I like cooking. I only casually said I liked watching those cooking videos, and you organized all this for me. What if I’m not good at it?”
“If you’re not good, then you’re not good. Why does it have to be done well? If you feel unhappy doing this one day, or you don’t like it anymore, we’ll switch to the next thing.”
Jiang Zhi held the person in her arms tighter, her voice slightly husky: “I always thought I was taking care of you, but in fact, I’ve been the one taken care of all along.”
Lin Anran pushed Jiang Zhi away: “When did you ever take care of me? You’re very good at taking credit for yourself. Let me tell you, you are not a qualified girlfriend at all. I don’t like it.”
Jiang Zhi leaned close to her face, raising an eyebrow: “How am I not a qualified girlfriend? Didn’t I make you last night…”
Lin Anran clapped a hand over her mouth: “No dirty talk allowed.”
Jiang Zhi pushed her hand away: “But you clearly like it every time I say something dirty.”
Lin Anran’s ears flushed. She was still the same—a little tease would make her blush and her heart race. She was very stubborn, but her pink ears betrayed everything.
Jiang Zhi picked her up around the waist. Lin Anran gasped in surprise, instinctively wrapping her arms around Jiang Zhi’s neck.
“Back to the room.” Jiang Zhi carried Lin Anran toward the room.
But her moment of looking cool lasted less than three seconds. Lacking the strength, she lost her balance and tumbled onto the carpet with Lin Anran.
Fortunately, neither was hurt.
Lin Anran angrily punched her: “Look at you! What are you doing? You can’t even carry me, yet you try to look cool. Are you sick?”
Jiang Zhi chuckled softly: “Don’t be angry. I’ll exercise more, and I’ll be able to carry you next time.”
She helped the person who had fallen stand up.
“I just saw them doing princess carries on TV. I wanted to be romantic and try it, too.”
Lin Anran narrowed her eyes at her, looking utterly disgusted.
After a while, Lin Anran tugged at her sleeve: “Didn’t you say we were going back to the room?”
Jiang Zhi paused, then instantly reacted, her gaze burning into Lin Anran.
Lin Anran’s face flushed. Seeing Jiang Zhi looking at her, she glared back: “Fine, if we’re not going back to the room, then let’s finish unpacking the express delivery.”
She made a move to return to the packages.
Jiang Zhi grabbed her hand: “We’ll unpack later.”
“No, I want to unpack now.” Lin Anran was twisting awkwardly, but she didn’t actually move away.
Jiang Zhi chuckled softly and whispered near her ear: “We still need to unpack a package.”
Lin Anran frowned. Before she could react, Jiang Zhi backed away, went to the pile of packages, and rummaged for a small box.
The recipient wasn’t Lin Anran, but Jiang Zhi. This package was one Jiang Zhi had bought.
Lin Anran curiously peered over: “What did you buy?”
Jiang Zhi: “An essential item.”
Lin Anran was confused. Then, she saw Jiang Zhi retrieve a small knife and cut open the courier box. A pink packaged box appeared before their eyes.
Lin Anran was initially puzzled, not understanding what the item was, until she saw the words “Finger Cots.” Only then did she slowly realize.
“My hands are clean every time, but using these will be a bit better,” Jiang Zhi explained.
“Oh,” Lin Anran looked away uncomfortably.
Jiang Zhi opened one and smelled it.
Lin Anran’s eyes widened: “You… smell what? Pervert!”
Jiang Zhi: “No, I bought the peach flavor. I was checking if it really smells like peach. There are different flavors, and I guessed you might like this one.”
Lin Anran: “…”
Jiang Zhi suddenly realized that discussing these things might be a bit awkward, but they were in a relationship where they could discuss these things.
With that thought, she instantly felt less awkward. She even deliberately teased her, taking one out and stuffing it into her hand.
“What are you doing? I’m not a pervert like you. I won’t smell it! I don’t care if it’s peach flavored or not.”
Lin Anran held the item as if it were a hot potato, trying to shove it back into Jiang Zhi’s hand.
Jiang Zhi didn’t take it, biting her ear and saying: “I haven’t used them, and I don’t know how very well. Teacher Lin, having studied so much, must know better than me. Will you put it on for me later, okay?”
