Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 25
“Come on, let’s find a spot to eat this breakfast first,” Liu Wuyi said, wrapping an arm around Ji Yunshu’s shoulder as she negotiated. “It’ll get cold if we don’t eat soon. You can eat while I talk, alright?”
When it came to Ji Yunshu, Liu Wuyi was an expert at acting cute, and Ji Yunshu simply couldn’t resist her. “You!” she sighed helplessly, tapping Liu Wuyi’s nose before letting herself be led away.
It was still early, and the cafeteria was nearly empty with only a few people around exactly what Liu Wuyi had hoped for. Happily holding Ji Yunshu’s hand, she guided her to a corner table and sat down beside her, naturally reaching to open the lunchbox.
Inside was a rich variety of breakfast foods. Back at home, Ji Yunshu often woke up early to prepare breakfast and lunch for her mother and grandmother to take to work, so she knew how much time it took to make so many different dishes.
“I’m not that picky about breakfast steamed buns and congee from the cafeteria are fine. You didn’t have to go to the trouble of making me breakfast,” Ji Yunshu said, noticing the dark circles under Liu Wuyi’s eyes and feeling a pang of guilt. “Waking up so early must have been exhausting.”
Though she hadn’t slept all night, Liu Wuyi was still full of energy and seemed puzzled. “Not tired at all! I often stay up all night. I have too much energy with nowhere to put it. I just felt like making you breakfast, and I tried it first it’s edible,” Liu Wuyi said proudly. “So? Touched, aren’t you?”
Ji Yunshu: “…” Instantly, her guilt vanished.
“You shouldn’t stay up all night, it’s really bad for your health,” Ji Yunshu couldn’t help but nag, seeing Liu Wuyi’s nonchalant attitude. “You’re young now and don’t take health seriously, but when you’re older, the problems will start to show.”
Liu Wuyi: “…”
That feeling was back. Was Yunshu really only twenty? Why did she sound so mature, just like what Ms. Yu often said?
“Won’t happen again, won’t happen again!”
Liu Wuyi laughed it off, promising to break the bad habit, and only then did Ji Yunshu seem to believe her. Taking the chopsticks Liu Wuyi handed her, she began to eat gracefully.
Truly our Yunshu elegant in looks and in eating.
Liu Wuyi stared intently at Ji Yunshu, marveling once again.
“Want to give a review?” Liu Wuyi asked eagerly as the breakfast in the bowl neared its end. “Is it good? Does it suit your taste?”
There was a bowl of millet porridge that didn’t quite look like millet porridge, a few wilted-looking side dishes, and some custard buns of rather irregular shapes hard to tell what they were supposed to be.
But admittedly, Liu Wuyi had succeeded, it was delicious.
Seeing the sparkle in Liu Wuyi’s eyes, Ji Yunshu couldn’t resist pinching her cheek. “Very good, very talented.” Then, she brought it up again, “Now, can you tell me when that photo was taken?” She hadn’t forgotten about it.
Liu Wuyi’s expression instantly shifted, her face flushing with embarrassment as she stammered, “It was during the freshman welcome party, when you were dancing.”
“So it was taken then! Let me see it quickly,” Ji Yunshu couldn’t hide her surprise.
This photo captured the moment Ji Yunshu suddenly turned to face her camera while dancing. Liu Wuyi’s face only occupied a small corner in the lower right, but it was, after all, their first photo together, one with significant sentimental value.
Liu Wuyi didn’t hold back her praise. “Your dance that day was truly perfect.” But Ji Yunshu didn’t see it that way.
After all, Liu Wuyi didn’t know that her dance that day wasn’t as flawless as she claimed. When Liu Wuyi’s gaze fixed on her, it was so intense and sincere that it threw off her rhythm, causing her to miss a step.
“Oh~ So you had your eyes on me even back then?” It wasn’t that Ji Yunshu was narcissistic, thinking she was universally adored, but Liu Wuyi was just too easy to read she wore her heart on her sleeve, making it impossible to ignore.
Hearing Ji Yunshu’s teasing, Liu Wuyi’s face flushed even redder. “So when did you start liking me?” she asked, her tone awkward and shy, her eyes filled with bashfulness.
Even though they were already together, how could she still act so innocent?
Ji Yunshu couldn’t help but find it amusing and felt a strong urge to tease her further.
“Take a guess.”
“When I walked you back to your dorm for the first time?”
“Nope.”
“During the music festival performance?”
“Why is it still wrong?” Liu Wuyi looked utterly bewildered, her expression adorably clueless. Ji Yunshu found her so endearing that she couldn’t resist patting her head. “If you can’t guess, then don’t. Let it remain a secret buried deep in your heart. But if you guess right, there’ll be a reward!”
Mention of a reward instantly sparked Liu Wuyi’s enthusiasm. Her curiosity peaked as she leaned against Ji Yunshu’s shoulder, rubbing against her, hooking her pinky around Ji Yunshu’s index finger and gently stroking it. She pulled out all the stops, shamelessly trying to coax the answer out of her.
However, Ji Yunshu was a woman of principle. Even as Liu Wuyi pleaded right up until it was time for her morning class, Ji Yunshu firmly insisted that Liu Wuyi had to meet the condition first.
Realizing her pleas were in vain, Liu Wuyi had no choice but to let Ji Yunshu go to class.
Ji Yunshu was usually incredibly busy, occupied from morning till night. Coincidentally, Liu Wuyi always seemed to be free whenever she was.
After all, who would have guessed that their merged class schedule was the result of Liu Wuyi’s meticulous adjustments?
She had truly gone to great lengths!
Of course, Ji Yunshu knew nothing about this.
If she ever found out, Liu Wuyi would be in big trouble.
As New Year’s Day approached, Haida University was adorned with red lanterns everywhere. Looking around, the sea of red created an incredibly festive atmosphere.
“You’re not going home for New Year’s?!” Liu Wuyi had skipped class again to sit with Ji Yunshu in the café where they first met. While watching Ji Yunshu type on her laptop and flipping through the schedule she had made to balance studying and project work, Liu Wuyi was taken aback to hear that Ji Yunshu wasn’t going home.
Ji Yunshu stopped typing and looked up at Liu Wuyi, her expression seeming to ask, “What’s the big deal? Why such a strong reaction?”
Noticing the disapproving glances from others around them, Liu Wuyi finally realized she had overreacted. She quickly lowered her voice and whispered to Ji Yunshu, “I’m going to my mom’s for New Year’s Day. I thought you, like Jiang Lehan, would be going home to celebrate, so I casually agreed to my mom’s plans.”
“I should have asked you earlier so you wouldn’t have to spend the holiday alone.”
“Round-trip plane tickets are too expensive. I only go home during winter and summer breaks.” Ji Yunshu felt that New Year’s Day was no different from any ordinary day. Besides, finals were approaching, and her schedule was packed, she needed to focus on studying. “Sweetheart, you go ahead and celebrate. I have to study.”
Hearing the word “study,” Liu Wuyi’s vision went dark.
After spending so much time together, Liu Wuyi knew Ji Yunshu’s personality well: unyielding in poverty and unbroken by force. She didn’t dare suggest paying for her trip home, knowing it would only make her angry.
With a wave of her hand, Liu Wuyi came up with a brilliant idea. “Then come home with me! My family only has my Omega mom, no one else to worry about. No awkwardness.” She even thoughtfully added, “We’ll come back to campus right after dinner. It won’t interfere with your studies.”
“Go home with you?!” Ji Yunshu was stunned. “Isn’t that too rash?”
This was the first time Liu Wuyi had seen Ji Yunshu so flustered and it was because she’d suggested taking her home. A flicker of irritation rose in her heart. “We’ll have to meet them sooner or later anyway. Don’t you want to?” Her reasoning was simple: if Ji Yunshu didn’t want to go home with her, it meant she wasn’t fully committed.
Liu Wuyi didn’t finish her sentence, but Ji Yunshu understood. Meeting each other’s families after dating for a while was the next step and after that came marriage. Are you saying you don’t want to marry me?
Seeing Ji Yunshu remain silent for so long, Liu Wuyi grew genuinely upset and deliberately turned her head away.
But Ji Yunshu’s mind was in turmoil. It felt too fast, and she couldn’t believe that Liu Wuyi, not even nineteen, was already so sure about her.
Ji Yunshu was reserved, but Liu Wuyi was frighteningly straightforward, laying out their future right in front of them.
“You really don’t want to come home with me, do you?” At some point, Liu Wuyi had turned back, her eyes red and welling with tears as she looked at Ji Yunshu.
What a pitiful sight.
Ji Yunshu’s heart softened, and her mouth moved faster than her brain. “Yes, we’ll go together.” This was so unlike her usual self. Realizing she had agreed too quickly, Ji Yunshu felt a pang of regret, but seeing Liu Wuyi’s eyes light up again, she didn’t dare show it.
Struggling internally, she decided to let things take their course, to go with the flow and not overthink it, even if it wasn’t part of her plan.
Knowing that Ji Yunshu had rearranged her entire schedule just to go home with her, freeing up New Year’s Eve despite being busier than ever, Liu Wuyi finally felt a twinge of conscience. To help Ji Yunshu focus on her studies, she minimized distractions aside from sending her nightly messages without fail, she canceled all other dates. This newfound dedication even made her more attentive in class.
Ji Yunshu was relieved.
During a fundamentals of harmony class, Liu Wuyi was diligently following the teacher’s vocal warm-ups when her phone vibrated several times in her pocket. Thinking it was a message from Ji Yunshu, she discreetly pulled it out.
But it was just a few text messages?
Liu Wuyi couldn’t hide her disappointment.
[Are you dating someone?]
[I already know. Just admit it.]
[I saw you.]
[How could you do this, A Yu?]
Upon seeing the first few messages, Liu Wuyi initially dismissed them as a prank. But the final message sent a chill down her spine.
Very few people knew about this name of hers.
Instinctively, she glanced around, who could it be?
Who was playing these mind games?
Liu Wuyi rarely attended classes. For large lectures, she would find someone to take her place; only for smaller sessions would she reluctantly show up, like today.
As a result, few people interacted with her, let alone had her phone number.
A cold breeze swept by, raising goosebumps all over her body. An uneasy feeling crept over her, as though someone was watching her from the shadows.
Just then, the sound of a piano suddenly filled the room. Startled, Liu Wuyi nearly jumped to her feet before remembering she was in class and forcing herself to stay seated.
The teacher was playing a melody from a nursery rhyme, one she had known since childhood. Though it was meant to be cheerful, she found it strangely eerie.
Immediately after, another message arrived with an image.
