Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 24
Liu Wuyi’s movements were so exaggerated that Jiang Lehan had no choice but to wake up. The moment she opened her eyes, Liu Wuyi’s face filled her vision. “Liu Wuyi, I’m going to kill you! I pulled an all-nighter to finish a deadline and had just fallen asleep less than ten minutes ago, and you woke me up. What did I ever do to you to deserve this torture?”
As she spoke, Jiang Lehan let out a scream, grabbed the pillow from her bedside, and began hitting Liu Wuyi repeatedly, venting the frustration that had been building up inside her.
Liu Wuyi dodged in a panic. “Didn’t you say that high school was so miserable you were determined to slack off for all four years of college? Since when did you become so studious?” She didn’t believe it.
“Do you think I want this? For Modern Chinese Literature alone, I’ve already missed several short essay deadlines. The class representative specifically told me before collecting the assignments that the professor has declared any missing work will result in a zero for the usual grade. Since the final and usual grades are split fifty-fifty, if I don’t write them, I’ll fail!”
“I only chose Chinese Language and Literature because I thought it would be an easy ride. Who knew this major would be so demanding?” The thought made her so upset that she lost even the energy to hit Liu Wuyi.
Jiang Lehan hadn’t chosen to study abroad purely because she found it troublesome to travel back and forth for overseas fan events, whereas staying in the country was much more convenient. She had begged her two mothers for a long time, using both soft and hard tactics, before finally gaining their approval. As for choosing Haicheng University, it was simply because her scores weren’t high enough for Jing City University. Coming to Haicheng also happened to keep her company with Liu Wuyi.
Seeing how carefree Liu Wuyi looked only fueled Jiang Lehan’s irritation. Baring her teeth, she snapped, “Don’t you have any assignments? How are you so free?”
Liu Wuyi put on an innocent expression, shrugged, and said nonchalantly, “My assignments. really aren’t that many.” This statement felt like another blow to Jiang Lehan.
Amid Jiang Lehan’s cries of despair, Liu Wuyi solemnly announced once more, “I have good news for you, I have a girlfriend! I’ve caught Ji Yunshu!”
“I have a girlfriend!” She cupped her hands like a megaphone and repeated it over and over by Jiang Lehan’s ear.
“I heard you, I heard you! You have a girl,” Jiang Lehan had intended to shoo Liu Wuyi, the dream-wrecker, out of her room, but as Liu Wuyi kept shouting, she gradually processed the words. “You and Ji Yunshu are together?!”
It had to be said that Jiang Lehan’s voice was truly piercing, especially when her volume suddenly spiked in excitement. Even Liu Wuyi couldn’t compare. Liu Wuyi’s eardrums stung from the noise, and she instinctively covered her ears.
“You actually succeeded? Even you have a girlfriend now?” Jiang Lehan fired off question after question, to which Liu Wuyi nodded each time. “Ah! Heaven, why am I stuck with short essays all day? I don’t want to live anymore.” For Jiang Lehan, a single dog, this news was yet another blow. She sighed dramatically and instantly became listless.
The clock’s minute hand had already reached the number 11. At this hour, most people were already deep in sleep.
Not wanting to disturb her Omega mother’s rest, Liu Wuyi returned to her own room and decided to send a text message to inform her mother about the news.
【Precious Daughter: Mom, I have a girlfriend now, and she said yes. I’m the happiest person in the world today.】
【Precious Daughter: Even though you didn’t ask me about it the other day, I know you’ve been curious.】
Liu Wuyi also sent a photo it was unmistakably Ji Yunshu, the one dancing that day.
【Precious Daughter: Doesn’t she look like an amazing girl? And it’s not just her looks she’s wonderful in every way!】
She typed these words with utmost sincerity, hoping to gain her family’s support and blessings.
At that moment, she was too excited to sleep, her entire body buzzing with restless energy. But it was too cold outside, and going for a late-night run wasn’t practical, so she paced around her room instead. Suddenly remembering what Ji Yunshu had said to her earlier that evening, she immediately called Liu Xiao with her characteristic decisiveness.
From Liu Xiao’s end came the sound of conversation she seemed to be meeting with friends. Only when the voices faded did Liu Xiao ask, “What’s the matter, calling so late?”
“Mom, Mom, I’ve realized something. You work so hard to earn money, and I’m an adult now. From now on, I’ll spend less of your money and strive for the things I want on my own.”
Liu Wuyi’s voice was so loud that Liu Xiao instinctively covered the phone’s receiver and held it slightly away from her ear.
Just as Liu Xiao was about to respond, Liu Wuyi decisively hung up.
Has this child lost her mind?!
The woman beside Liu Xiao noticed the abrupt end to the call and remarked with a smile, “It’s been years since I last saw your daughter. It seems she’s grown up quite a bit.”
“She must have had too much to drink with her friends and is acting out,” Liu Xiao replied, shaking her head with a laugh. Yet, an unexpected fondness softened her expression. Raising her glass, she clinked it with the woman’s and said, “The future development of Shengshi Group will still rely on A’ning. A’yu isn’t cut out for this kind of work.”
Liu Xiao’s words struck a chord with the woman, whose smile widened. “Well, it still depends on whether the two young ones hit it off! That said, I have high hopes for A’yu. She and Ningning have known each other since they were children, I feel quite at ease.”
“A’yu is very obedient. You can start preparing for the wedding celebration.”
And so, the two Alpha mothers reached an unspoken understanding, completely unbeknownst to Liu Wuyi.
Reluctantly, Ji Yunshu returned to her dormitory carrying a large bouquet of champagne roses. As soon as she opened the door, she found Su Linlin standing with her arms crossed, staring unabashedly at her. Zhang Jiajia wore a teasing smirk, while Ye Shiqi sat at her desk as usual, the snacks that had been on Ji Yunshu’s desk were already gone.
“Yunshu, we saw everything earlier!” Su Linlin burst into the first uproarious laugh of the evening.
Zhang Jiajia playfully mimicked, “Yunshu, can I kiss you?” Not satisfied with just that, she added in an exaggerated tone, “May I call myself your girlfriend now?”
“And ‘call myself’, how can she be so amusing? One moment she’s all formal, the next she’s utterly silly.” Poor Liu Wuyi had no idea she was being teased like this by Ji Yunshu’s roommates.
“You heard all of that?” The blush that had just begun to fade from Ji Yunshu’s cheeks instantly returned, brighter than before.
As soon as the words were spoken, Su Linlin’s expression instantly became indescribable. “Yunshu! Does falling in love make even top students’ IQs drop? We live on the second floor, you know. With her booming voice like that, it’s impossible not to hear it from the balcony.”
“How often do you get to witness a confession scene like this? Even Shiqi was watching curiously just now,” Zhang Jiajia whispered mysteriously, her voice lowered. “I bet others heard it too. I just saw people from the next dorm watching from their balcony.”
“Now I declare, our dorm is finally no longer a singles’ apartment!”
“Applause if you get it!” Su Linlin immediately followed up.
Zhang Jiajia was the mood-setter, enthusiastically clapping along. Not only that, she urged Ji Yunshu and Ye Shiqi to join in her rhythm.
[Drowning Puppy: The dorm supervisor was rushing me earlier, so I forgot to ask could you send me your class schedule? Let’s merge our schedules.]
[Drowning Puppy: That way we can find times when we’re both free to spend together.]
[My Wife: Sure.]
Right after this message came a picture.
a fully packed class schedule.
The first snow had stopped falling long before dawn. By the time the students at Hai University woke up for class, only scattered traces of snow remained.
Ji Yunshu always woke up early, but as she went downstairs, she unexpectedly saw Liu Wuyi under the tree in front of the dormitory building. “Good morning, girlfriend!”
Liu Wuyi proudly held up a lunchbox. “Ta-da! Xiao Liu’s special breakfast.” Perhaps her overly triumphant tone displeased the lingering snow on the tree, which retaliated by falling right on her head.
Feeling the icy chill on her scalp, Liu Wuyi instantly jumped, yelping in surprise.
Ji Yunshu couldn’t help but laugh, her laughter gentle, like a softly flowing stream. Under Liu Wuyi’s mesmerized gaze, she slowly descended the steps, stopping on the last one to stand right in front of her. She carefully brushed the icy snow from Liu Wuyi’s hair.
“You can cook too!” After removing the snow, Ji Yunshu took the insulated lunchbox from her hands, her face lighting up with pleasant surprise.
Sensing Ji Yunshu’s praise, Liu Wuyi beamed with pride. “After I went home last night, I specially asked my Omega mom for help. I followed her steps, my mom’s cooking is amazing. Try it!”
“You told your mom about us?!”
“Yeah! I even showed her your photo. My mom says the face reflects the heart, and you must be a wonderful girl. She likes you a lot too.” Liu Wuyi smiled, tugging playfully at Ji Yunshu’s sleeve. “But I like you the most.”
Unusually, Ji Yunshu fell into thought and didn’t respond immediately. Liu Wuyi seemed to suddenly realize something was off. “Sorry, I was too impulsive last night.” She looked regretful, her spirits deflated. “I didn’t think it through this time. I should’ve asked you before showing your photo to my mom. I got too excited and forgot. Please don’t be mad.”
In truth, Ji Yunshu wasn’t angry at all. Instead, she was surprised by Liu Wuyi’s parents’ attitude. After all, isn’t that how it always plays out on TV?
Watching Liu Wuyi’s dejected expression, Ji Yunshu found it utterly amusing. She freed one hand and began patting his head rhythmically, but the more she thought about it, the more something felt off.
She must have overlooked something.
“Wait, Liu Wuyi, how do you have a photo of me?” She tapped his head lightly and narrowed her eyes as she questioned him.
“Confess the truth.”
“Ah!” As if the origin of the photo was too embarrassing to explain, Liu Wuyi immediately became evasive. He leaned against Ji Yunshu’s shoulder, nuzzling her clingily in an attempt to dodge the question.
