Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 23
Ji Yunshu walked to the balcony to answer Liu Wuyi’s call. Amid the cheerful tone on the other end of the line, she seemed to detect a faint trace of nervousness.
Is it my imagination? What is she nervous about?
Her first instinct was to lean over and look downstairs. Sure enough, beneath the streetlight, she spotted the figure who had just left.
And it looks like she’s holding something in her hands.
Perhaps it was the unspoken understanding between adults. Sensing what might unfold next, Ji Yunshu simply said, “Wait for me,” and hung up.
“Where are you rushing off to so late? Meeting Liu Wuyi?” Zhang Jiajia, who had been leaning against the headboard reading a book, couldn’t help but ask when she saw Ji Yunshu’s hurried movements.
“Yes!”
Grabbing the coat draped over her chair and throwing it on, Ji Yunshu dashed out the door in a flurry.
She passed brightly lit dorm rooms one after another, hurrying through the dimly lit corridor. The motion-sensor lights above flickered on belatedly, one by one, as if chasing the trail of her determined figure.
Ahead lay darkness, while behind her, light bloomed.
For the first time, she felt this corridor was far too long, far too long.
The urge to see Liu Wuyi was stronger than ever, so she quickened her pace.
But just as she neared the stairwell, she accidentally bumped into someone.
“Who is it? Watch where you’re going!” The sharp cry echoed through the corridor. The lights were no longer dim, and Ji Yunshu recognized the person she had collided with.
Hurriedly helping her up, Ji Yunshu clasped her hands together apologetically. “Sorry, Shiqi! Are you hurt? I brought back some food for you, it’s untouched, on your desk. Remember to eat it.” With that, she rushed off again.
Yet, Ye Shiqi had frozen the moment she realized it was Ji Yunshu who had bumped into her. She had never seen Ji Yunshu like this radiant and full of life, yet recklessly impulsive.
Bursting out of the dormitory, the cold wind seeped into Ji Yunshu’s limbs, sending a sudden chill through her. She instinctively pulled her coat tighter and turned to look at Liu Wuyi, who stood with her back turned under the streetlight.
“Wuyi!”
Liu Wuyi turned at the sound of her name and saw Ji Yunshu sprinting toward her.
Her hair danced in the air, and her clear, untainted eyes seemed to reflect light even in the dim surroundings.
At this sight, Liu Wuyi’s breathing grew heavier. Unable to resist, she stepped forward to steady Ji Yunshu, then took a deliberate step back. Gazing into those mesmerizing, vortex-like eyes, she spoke solemnly, “Ji Yunshu, from now on, may I call myself your girlfriend?” Closing her eyes tightly, Liu Wuyi presented the champagne rose she had been secretly hiding against her chest.
“A champagne rose?” Ji Yunshu murmured, as if questioning her or speaking to herself.
Nervously, Liu Wuyi explained, “My pheromone scent is champagne rose, so I wanted to give a champagne rose to you.”
She was offering her utmost sincerity, expressing her love to Ji Yunshu.
Just then, the first snow began to fall quietly. Flecks of white settled on both of them. The night was deep, and only students returning late from the library hurried back to their dorms. The surroundings were nearly silent, save for the whispering chill of the wind whistling past their ears.
Liu Wuyi instinctively held her breath, her ears filled only with the frantic pounding of her own heart.
The surroundings remained silent for a few seconds until Ji Yunshu’s soft chuckle broke through. Only then did Liu Wuyi remember to breathe again. She cautiously opened one eye, hoping to steal a glance at Ji Yunshu’s expression, only to be caught red-handed.
As she accepted the champagne rose, Ji Yunshu felt the dampness in Liu Wuyi’s palm and her smile widened. “So straightforward? I approve.”
The moment the words left Ji Yunshu’s lips, Liu Wuyi’s mind exploded like fireworks. The world seemed to roar around her, her thoughts went blank, and everything else faded away, leaving only Ji Yunshu in her sight.
Liu Wuyi’s gaze lingered openly on Ji Yunshu’s smiling face, tracing the gentle curve of her brows and eyes, sweeping lightly over her delicate nose, and finally settling on her full, rosy lips.
After that, whatever else Ji Yunshu said, Liu Wuyi couldn’t hear a word.
All she felt was a sudden dryness in her throat. “Yunshu, can I kiss you?” The moment she realized what she had just blurted out, she wished she could burrow into the ground and bury herself alive.
Instead of an answer, she received a soft, warm kiss fleeting yet unforgettable.
Yunshu is so bold!
Liu Wuyi’s eyes widened in shock, her mind still reeling as she savored the lingering sensation.
“It’s snowing, Wuyi.”
“Yes, the new year is almost here,” Liu Wuyi replied softly, her voice low. “Happy birthday, my girlfriend.”
The snow fell heavier now, dusting their hair, eyelashes, and the tips of their noses. They stood facing each other, lost in one another’s eyes as if they could remain that way forever.
“Hey, you two over there! Do you know what time it is? I need to lock up!” The dorm supervisor’s shout startled the snowflakes resting on the branches, sending them fluttering to the ground.
Realizing Ji Yunshu was about to leave, Liu Wuyi panicked and grabbed her hand. “Yunshu, wait, don’t go yet. I have something else for you.”
Under the glow of the streetlamp, the object in Liu Wuyi’s hand shimmered brilliantly.
“A ring?”
Ji Yunshu recognized it, she had seen it online before.
A Harry Winston diamond ring.
As she stared at the ring being pressed into her hand, it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds. “No, this is too expensive. I can’t accept it.”
“It’s only 3.16 carats. I actually think it’s too small. When we get married, I’ll buy you a bigger one,” Liu Wuyi said dismissively. To her, such a modest ring was hardly worthy of her Yunshu. If only she had more time and the store hadn’t been so slow with deliveries, she would have chosen something grander.
3.16 carats!!!
Ji Yunshu gasped and shoved the ring back into Liu Wuyi’s hand. “This is far too valuable. I really can’t take it.”
“I had this specially customized as a matching set after I fell in love with you at first sight. When we wear them, everyone will know we’re together. Shouldn’t couples wear matching rings?” Liu Wuyi extended her hand, revealing an identical diamond ring on her finger.
“It’s not that couples shouldn’t wear matching rings. It’s just that this is too extravagant. I truly can’t accept it.”
“You’re still a student, where did you get so much money to buy this ring? You should return it.”
“I didn’t spend my own money. I’ll save all my allowance for you from now on.” Liu Wuyi chuckled foolishly, “Don’t worry, I bought this pair of rings with my mother’s card. They cost less than three million in total, and our names are engraved on them. I even threw away the ring boxes, so they can’t be returned.” Liu Wuyi waved her hand proudly, her expression seeming to say, “Aren’t I amazing? You should praise me.”
Hearing this, Ji Yunshu felt her vision darken.
“You just casually gave away diamond rings worth three million like that? Did your family agree to it?”
“No!”
“That’s good. Hurry up and take the rings back.” Ji Yunshu breathed a sigh of relief.
But her relief lasted less than three seconds before Liu Wuyi’s next words made her vision darken again. “No, Yunshu, what are you thinking? I meant the ring I gave you is worth over a million, not three million. And why wouldn’t my family agree? My mother only has me as her child. Her things are my things. What’s wrong with spending a little of her money? She should feel honored.”
Ji Yunshu: “…”
Is this how wealthy families raise their children?! Do they end up raising either spoiled, arrogant brats who look down on everyone or clueless fools like her?
Ji Yunshu didn’t realize it yet, but she had already developed a desire to discipline Liu Wuyi, determined to correct her attitude toward money.
“Be good and listen to me. Return this ring to your mother. The project I’m working on lately will earn me some money. When the time comes, I’ll buy a pair of rings for us to wear together, okay?” As she spoke, Ji Yunshu gently stroked Liu Wuyi’s cheek, her tone coaxing.
Liu Wuyi caught the faint fragrance wafting toward her and felt the heat rising within her and the intense pounding of her heart. She couldn’t help but touch the area under her nose, thinking to herself: Phew, good thing I didn’t get a nosebleed.
Then, noticing the content of Ji Yunshu’s words, Liu Wuyi obediently nodded and repeatedly agreed, “Okay, okay, no problem.” She would listen to whatever Yunshu said.
Having successfully rejected the extravagant rings, Ji Yunshu felt much more at ease.
“We’re both adults now. We should be the ones supporting our mothers, not the other way around. If we want something, we should earn it with our own hands, not constantly take from our mothers. That’s not right.”
So true, so very true! How did I manage to find such a wonderful girlfriend?
Liu Wuyi was impressed with herself.
“You lovebirds under the streetlight, what time do you think it is? Hurry back to the dorm. I’m really going to lock up now.” The dorm supervisor’s shout carried a hint of impatience this time. Ji Yunshu really needed to go back.
“Where’s my scarf?” Liu Wuyi remembered the excuse she had used to trick Ji Yunshu into coming downstairs earlier.
Ji Yunshu froze for a moment before immediately raising the large bouquet of champagne roses in her hand to cover her entire face. “I was in too much of a hurry. I forgot.” Thinking about how impulsive she had been, Ji Yunshu felt a little embarrassed, her cheeks flushing red.
“Then consider it yours. What’s mine is yours.” Liu Wuyi waved her hand dismissively. She hadn’t cared about a scarf in the first place it was all part of her plan.
“Kiss me again, so I can sleep well tonight.” Liu Wuyi took Ji Yunshu’s left hand, gave it a gentle shake, and said with a coquettish tone.
This time, Ji Yunshu didn’t indulge her, as if her earlier initiative had already been her limit. “Let’s go,” she said, turning to leave, but Liu Wuyi pulled her back abruptly. Taking her by surprise, Liu Wuyi planted a kiss on her cheek like a stamp.
“Stamp successfully placed. You can go now.”
Ji Yunshu couldn’t help but touch the lingering warmth on her cheek, a doting smile spreading across her face as she thought to herself: You little coquette.
Watching Ji Yunshu enter the dormitory building, Liu Wuyi felt utterly content and jogged home with a spring in her step, as if she had boundless energy with nowhere to expend it. In her excitement, she burst into Jiang Lehan’s room and shook her awake from her slumber.
“Jiang Lehan, I, Liu Wuyi, have a girlfriend now.”
