Did My Wife Break Up With Me Today? - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Wanting to Slide a Finger In
The question had barely even hit the ground.
Chen Kongqing’s hand was already tightly enveloped by a warm palm.
It was hot, and it was solid. They were pressed so closely together it felt as if they were joined by glue, without a single gap. It felt as though the man wanted to brand his fingerprints onto the back of the rabbit’s hand.
The rabbit’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His fingers, half-yielding and half-pushing, pressed against the prominent veins he had been staring at just moments ago. He couldn’t quite describe the sensation—it really felt as if they were throbbing.
Pulse after pulse.
A wave of heat surged into the rabbit’s cheeks again.
Just then, a gust of cold wind blew into the mouth of the alley. It ruffled the stray hairs on top of Chen Kongqing’s head and lifted the hem of Xu Jingmo’s overcoat.
Xu Jingmo, still holding him, shifted his stance slightly to block the wind. “Cold?”
Chen Kongqing felt the bones in his hand turning numb from the grip. He gave a small shake of his head. “Not cold.”
Actually… it was just holding hands. He and Dr. Xu had even interlaced their fingers before… but for some reason, his face felt like it was on fire. His mind was empty, feeling light and airy—as if he were drifting away to somewhere unknown.
Neither of them spoke.
Chen Kongqing clutched the bouquet in his arms, his throat feeling dry again.
Suddenly, a child dashed out from a nearby lane, followed by his mother: “Don’t run, you little brat—”
As if by reflex, Chen Kongqing swiftly jerked his hand away from Xu Jingmo’s. Then, in a clumsy attempt to cover it up, he rubbed the back of his head. “Cough, cough…”
Well, neither the child nor the mother were actually paying any attention to them.
“You should just leave me here. I… I can go up by myself.” As he spoke, Chen Kongqing bolted upstairs as if fleeing a disaster zone.
Xu Jingmo stood in place, watching the rabbit’s retreating back. His palm still carried the scent and texture of the rabbit’s skin. It was fragrant—a rich herbal scent mixed with a hint of fresh shower gel.
He had just held the rabbit’s hand. It wasn’t for some “treatment.” It was purely holding hands.
The rabbit’s palm was so soft. How could someone’s palm be that soft? How soft would his lips be, or the skin of his neck, or… other places?
The man’s Adam’s apple shifted up and down as his gaze settled on the dim stairwell.
…
Chen Kongqing scrambled up the dark stairs, floor after floor, until he finally reached his small rental. Once inside, he carefully placed the flowers on his desk and dove onto his bed, burying his head in his plush carrot to try and cool down.
He lay there for a long time, his head still feeling light.
Black Cat Sheriff jumped onto the bed, stepping on his back. “Meow~”
The kitten was getting rounder by the day, and its weight was increasing. Being stepped on actually hurt quite a bit. Chen Kongqing let out a muffled groan, flailing his hand behind him to catch the furry lump. The kitten did a little “tango” on his back before hopping down.
Chen Kongqing rolled over, wanting to catch the cat to punish it—perhaps with ten forced kisses. But the tuxedo cat was clever and leaped away instantly.
The rabbit rolled around on the bed until the blush on his face finally faded a little. He decided he should get up and put those blue roses in a vase with water. Such beautiful flowers deserved to live as long as possible.
Just as he was about to climb out of bed, the phone in his pocket vibrated continuously. He pulled it out and unlocked it.
The screen displayed: 【Lnk is inviting you to a video call.】
Lnk. A video call!
Chen Kongqing opened the chat, rolled over to lie on his stomach, and positioned the camera so only half his face was visible. Then, he tapped the green “Accept” button.
The screen was relatively dark. Xu Jingmo was likely in an underground garage, perhaps having just arrived home and parked.
“About to sleep?” Xu Jingmo stared at the screen.
The lighting on the rabbit’s side wasn’t great either. Xu Jingmo could only see that beautiful willow-leaf eye, its chestnut pupil staring intently at the screen. “Not yet. Dr. Xu, are you home?”
“Almost. I’m entering the elevator, the signal might lag for a bit.” Before he finished, a line of text popped up.
【Poor signal on the other end.】
Chen Kongqing took the opportunity to adjust his position. Lying on his stomach wasn’t working—he was blocking the light, making himself look dark and his skin look bad. He flipped over to lean against the headboard, holding the phone at a perfect angle and lighting.
He suddenly remembered that a long time ago, he and Dr. Xu had had a video call. Back then, he had been so casual… he’d just tossed the phone on the table at a “death angle.” He wondered if he’d looked like he had a double chin…
While he was spacing out, the signal returned to normal. The screen was no longer pitch black. Xu Jingmo had finished changing his shoes and picked up the phone from the entryway cabinet.
He saw the rabbit’s full face. His cheeks were rosy, and his pale skin looked so tender it seemed it could produce water if pinched. The rabbit looked lost in thought.
Xu Jingmo: “What are you thinking about?”
Chen Kongqing climbed out of the “double chin” rabbit hole. “No… nothing. Just that the roses… they should live longer if I put them in water, right?”
“Yes, they’ll last about a week in water, though the cold weather might shorten that slightly,” Xu Jingmo answered, his eyes lingering on the screen.
Why was this rabbit so beautiful? His eyes were beautiful, his nose was beautiful, and his lips were thin and shimmering. They looked like they would taste very soft and sweet.
Chen Kongqing suddenly felt his lips itch, so he nibbled on them with his teeth.
Black Cat Sheriff, swaying its tail lazily on the floor, felt mischievous again. It leaped onto the bed, accurately stepping on the rabbit’s thigh, then unceremoniously stepped forward and curled up directly on the rabbit’s soft stomach.
Chen Kongqing let out a soft groan of pain—first the dull thud on his thigh, then his stomach being used as a cushion. These groans were mostly airy whimpers, sounding remarkably like a kitten’s cry.
Xu Jingmo felt as though a cat’s claws had scratched his heart. “What happened?”
“Black Cat Sheriff has been loving jumping on my stomach lately. He’s gotten bigger and heavier, but he doesn’t seem to realize his own weight.” As Chen Kongqing spoke, he initially wanted to grab the cat as punishment, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it, settling for stroking its black head instead.
“Meow~”
Yes, Black Cat Sheriff was now purring on Chen Kongqing’s stomach. It could jump on his bed whenever it wanted.
Listening to this, Xu Jingmo felt—for some reason—a bit annoyed. He was jealous of that damn cat again. “You should educate him. Don’t let him on the bed anymore.”
“Yeah, I’ll have to negotiate with him sometime,” Chen Kongqing agreed, though in truth… he’d still let the cat on the bed. “I’m going to go shower now, so I’ll hang up, Dr. Xu.”
Shower.
Hearing those words, Xu Jingmo felt a wave of dryness in his throat, but his expression remained calm. “Okay.”
With a beep, the video ended.
Xu Jingmo felt increasingly that he was a man of very “unclean” thoughts. Sometimes, when the rabbit was just talking normally, he would look at his mouth and think. It wasn’t just about a kiss. A kiss wasn’t enough to satisfy him anymore.
He really wanted to slide a finger in. The rabbit’s lips were so thin; his mouth must be narrow. He wondered if two fingers could fit, and how much he could take.
Truly a man of low morals, Xu Jingmo.
Now, just because the rabbit said the word “shower,” he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering. He began to suspect that he was the one who was ill.
At that moment, his phone pinged several times. It was a series of messages from Ling Xiao.
Ling Xiao: 【Xu Jingmo, you actually dare to use such underhanded tricks.】 Ling Xiao: 【I won’t let you off.】 Ling Xiao: 【Just you wait.】 Ling Xiao: 【I’ll make sure you have a miserable time.】
He knew Ling Xiao was referring to the fact that he had informed the boy’s parents of his behavior. He didn’t reply to Ling Xiao. Instead, he took a screenshot and forwarded it to Ling Xiao’s mother.
Lnk: 【Auntie, Xiao Ling seems to have misunderstood me.】 Lnk: 【I only told you for his own good.】 Lnk: 【I hope you can guide him more.】
Peaceful Years: 【Alright, Jingmo!】 Peaceful Years: 【I’m so sorry, this child is simply lawless!】 Peaceful Years: 【I’ll speak with his father. It seems his apology a few days ago was all an act.】 Peaceful Years: 【Sorry, Jingmo, the child is just immature. / [Handshake]】
Lnk: 【It’s no problem, Auntie.】
A smirk played on the man’s lips. He exited the chat with “Peaceful Years” and clicked on his pinned chat.
…
Chen Kongqing had just finished his shower and stepped out of the bathroom. The heating in his rental was nowhere near as good as at Dr. Xu’s house. Stepping out in just a towel was freezing. He couldn’t help but sneeze several times. It felt like he was catching a cold.
The rabbit quickly dried his hair and changed into thick pajamas before crawling back into bed. His phone, which he hadn’t checked for a while, was full of notification pop-ups.
They were messages from Xu Jingmo.
Lnk: 【Actually, there is a French meaning behind the language of Maltese Blue flowers.】 Lnk: 【I wanted to tell you earlier.】 Lnk: 【But when you asked if I wanted to hold hands, I suddenly forgot everything.】 Lnk: 【But it’s not too late to tell you now.】 Lnk: 【Dans le murmure de l’univers, mon amour pour toi résonne pour l’éternité.】
The rabbit stared at the French sentence. He didn’t understand it at all, yet for some reason, his heart started racing. Thump-thump, thump-thump.
He rubbed his cheeks, trying to calm himself down. After nearly half a minute of deep breathing, his trembling finger long-pressed the message and tapped “Translate.”
The loading circle spun a few times.
The translation appeared: 【In the whispers of the universe, my love for you echoes for eternity.】
