Chapter 42: The man’s fingertip couldn’t help but brush against the rabbit’s waist.
When Chen Kongqing heard those words, his mind went blank. To be precise, it was completely hollow, as if Dr. Xu had spoken to him in a foreign language.
The rabbit fell silent. The silence stretched on.
Standing there, Xu Jingmo felt every second crawl by. Before him, the rabbit kept his eyes lowered, clutching the giant carrot. Half of his face was hidden behind the plush, even obscuring one eye. The visible eye remained downcast, revealing long lashes trembling slightly in the air.
The man’s Adam’s apple rolled, and even his throat muscles tightened with tension. “Do you not want to? If you don’t, it’s…” okay.
“No… it’s not that.” Chen Kongqing stood up from the floor still holding the carrot, denying it with some urgency. “It’s not that I don’t want to, but Dr. Xu, don’t you have to go home to spend the New Year with your parents?”
“No.” The tension in the man’s face relaxed, and he gave a casual excuse. “They’ve settled abroad now. I couldn’t get a flight, so I planned to spend it alone domestically and visit them when I have time after the holiday.”
Hearing this, the rabbit nodded, rubbing against the soft carrot. “Where abroad? I can help you try to book a ticket.”
“San Francisco.” Xu Jingmo looked at the rabbit’s head, which was rounder than the pillow. “It’s fine. They’ve already booked a trip to Hawaii; they don’t even want me bothering them.”
Chen Kongqing had never experienced having both parents around with a good relationship. But just hearing it made him feel a sense of happiness. He hugged the carrot tighter, his eyes pressing against the brand-new plush. It was very similar to the one that had accompanied him for years.
But the old carrot was ancient. The colors had faded from washing, and because he had hugged and squeezed it daily for years, the cotton inside had become flat and lumpy; it wasn’t comfortable anymore.
“I also have a carrot pillow, very similar to this one you gave me.” Even though the “old carrot” had become homely and worn, Chen Kongqing couldn’t help but introduce it. “It’s from many years ago.”
“Is that so? Then does this count as… two hearts beating as one?” Xu Jingmo laughed, his lips curving into a handsome arc.
“I suppose so.” The rabbit laughed too.
But in the next instant, his mind was suddenly flooded with strange words—and besides these words, there was nothing else. Just a blinding white void.
[“Is this from you, Big Brother?”] [“Big Brother, I don’t want to sleep hugging the carrot, I want to sleep hugging you!”]
Chen Kongqing furrowed his brows in pain. He gripped the carrot but couldn’t find any strength, his body instinctively seeking help. He pitched forward. He fell right into a warm, firm embrace.
Xu Jingmo was stunned for a moment, but he quickly wrapped his arms around the rabbit’s waist, his voice tinged with panic: “Chen Kongqing, what’s wrong?”
The white light in his vision quietly dissipated, and his brain began to function again. Chen Kongqing let out a few heavy gasps. “Ugh…”
He opened his eyes and realized… the hard surface pressing against his chin, making it ache slightly, was actually… Dr. Xu’s chest. While marveling at the firmness of that chest, he couldn’t help but feel the prominent muscular curve.
How did he train them to be this big…
Wait… Chen Kongqing… is now the time to be thinking about that?
The rabbit struggled to lift his chin. “It’s nothing, just the amnesia aftereffects… acting up again.”
Xu Jingmo held that waist—softer than cotton—and guided the rabbit to sit on the nearby sofa. “It seemed more serious this time?”
It was true that the blackout lasted longer than before, but Chen Kongqing didn’t want Dr. Xu to worry, so he whispered, “Actually, it’s okay. I’m fine.”
It was only at this moment that he realized his waist was still encircled. Through his knit sweater, he could feel it… a scorching yet damp touch. The skin on his sides had always been sensitive; with this stimulation, his body shook uncontrollably twice.
The skin hunger that had been dormant for a few days finally took this opportunity to explode. A flush blossomed on Chen Kongqing’s face. He originally wanted to pull away from the man’s arms, but his body had already surrendered, leaving him pressed against Xu Jingmo’s chest while fully conscious.
Xu Jingmo was actually prepared to let go. After all, at this moment, he had no reason to keep holding him.
But. He was so well-behaved. The rabbit in his arms was impossibly sweet. And impossibly soft.
He admitted his own greed and his own lack of virtue. So, he continued to encircle that soft waist without a word. He waited. He waited for the rabbit’s judgment.
Strangely, the rabbit didn’t move. He just nestled there, even his face tucked against him. Only, that part of his body… became somewhat…
The man’s fingertip couldn’t help but brush against the rabbit’s… just once. A very light graze.
“Mm…” Chen Kongqing followed with a short, soft cry, like a meowing kitten.
After realizing that sound came from his own mouth, Chen Kongqing completely lost the courage to look up. His body grew softer and softer. But nestling in Dr. Xu’s arms like this was… too strange. He couldn’t help but clench his fists, trying to use the sofa for leverage to stand up.
…
Chen Kongqing: “…”
By the time he realized what was happening, it was too late. The man holding him spoke, his voice steady: “Your condition is flaring up.”
The rabbit curled into a ball in mortification, trying to use the carrot pillow to hide. The pillow, however, was ruthlessly tossed aside by the man. “No need to hide it. This is nothing.”
The rabbit kept his face down, but his ears—red as if they’d just come out of a boiling steamer—betrayed him.
“I… I’m going to the bathroom.” After holding it in for a long time, the rabbit only managed to squeeze out that one sentence. He wanted to get up and flee. Perhaps in Dr. Xu’s eyes, this was nothing, but… he couldn’t accept it himself. He couldn’t accept standing there like that while being held by Dr. Xu.
But… it was as if he had fallen into a land of gentle dreams; he couldn’t get up at all.
Xu Jingmo looked at the rabbit, who had turned into a puddle of water. “Don’t suppress it. Suppressing it is worse for your condition.”
“It’s not… it’s not that I want to suppress it.” Although he was anxious to escape, he still wanted to explain. “I tried before… but I couldn’t… get it out.”
If he could have handled it himself, he wouldn’t have had to take three or four cold showers every time until his fingers turned white from the soaking.
“You might need a bit of strong stimulation.” As the man spoke, his tongue brushed across his teeth.
Chen Kongqing bit his lip, not knowing how he managed to ask: “How… what kind of stimulation?”
“Someone helping you.” Xu Jingmo’s tone remained calm, like a frozen lake that could never ripple. “I’ll help you.”
But only the frozen lake knew. Beneath the calm surface, the undercurrents were raging.
Chen Kongqing’s eyes widened in shock. Dr. Xu… helping me? How can he help me?
No, no, no. His chaotic brain suddenly cleared in this moment. Chen Kongqing forced his limp legs to crawl out of the man’s arms and scrambled to his feet. “I… I’ll go to my room. I can… do it myself.”
As if having made a firm resolution, the rabbit ran. He stumbled, practically fleeing in panic.
Click.
The sound of the bedroom door closing.
Xu Jingmo sat on the sofa, his tongue sliding across his teeth again as he pushed against his cheek. Can’t rush. The rabbit is timid; he’ll be scared. He’ll run away.
But at this moment, his hands still carried the warm, soft touch of the rabbit, and his nose was filled with that faint herbal scent. His blood was also beginning to pool and surge in a certain direction.
…
Chen Kongqing tried for a long time in his bedroom. It was useless. Completely useless. In fact, the harder he tried, the firmer it became.
The rabbit was frantic. He was anxious and uncomfortable, his whole body burning up. Having no other choice, he turned on the air conditioning to cold, even though it was winter. Even so, the symptoms didn’t ease. He still felt hot, as if the moisture in his body was being boiled away. His eyes were wet with tears as he tried again with more patience.
Still nothing. He could feel that this time, it wasn’t something a few cold showers could solve. This time, it had to… come out. But why wouldn’t it work?
He had found some medication on his nightstand and swallowed it without water. But the medicine only seemed to make his tongue bitter and numb; its other effects were practically nil.
The rabbit cried in frustration. His lashes were soaked with hot tears, sticking to his eyelids.
Just then, in the quiet space, there were two distinct knocks on the door. The door was tapped very lightly. Yet it made Chen Kongqing, who was leaning against the bed, shiver violently.
Through the door, Xu Jingmo’s voice sounded a bit muffled: “How is it? Are you feeling any better?”
Chen Kongqing tried to speak, but for some reason, his throat felt blocked; he couldn’t make a sound. His body felt like it had been thrown into a frying pan—hot and painful. It also felt as if countless ants were marching across his skin. He couldn’t take it.
“Chen Kongqing?” Outside, Xu Jingmo couldn’t help but frown. “If you don’t speak, I’m coming in.”
Chen Kongqing struggled to force out a sentence in a hoarse voice: “Dr… Dr. Xu.”
It was a very soft, broken sound. One could tell the rabbit had been crying. The hand that had been hovering over the doorknob finally pressed down.
The door was pushed open.
In the dim bedroom, the temperature was unusually low. The rabbit on the bed wasn’t covered by a blanket; the moment he saw Xu Jingmo, he scrambled to pull the quilt over himself to hide.
“Are you in a lot of pain?” Xu Jingmo walked quickly to the bedside. He saw the rabbit’s cheeks were flushed, his willow-leaf eyes were rimmed with red, and his eyelashes were clumped together with tears.
At this moment. He didn’t want to care about etiquette anymore. Or boundaries. He just wanted to make this rabbit feel a little better.
The damp rabbit hurriedly pulled the corner of the quilt up, not daring to look at Xu Jingmo. “I’m fine… I’m better now…”
In the next instant, a large hand reached under the covers with irresistible force.
