Chapter 26: His Soft Lips Brushed Against His Neck
Chen Kongqing felt his ears ringing for several seconds.
How could he show… that…
How could he show something like that to someone else?
The youth dug his teeth deep into his lower lip, pressing the pillow onto his lap even harder.
“Chen Kongqing, let me see.” Xu Jingmo spoke again.
The man’s tone was calm, each word distinct, but it wasn’t mean at all—just slightly more serious than before.
Chen Kongqing didn’t know why, but he was intimidated into submission. Was it a habit? But he had only known Dr. Xu for less than two months. Why was he already accustomed to being obedient?
It was strange. But he did as he was told.
The rabbit’s two small paws slowly let go. The two pink flushes on his cheeks had now turned completely crimson, spreading down to his neck.
In the next instant, the soft pillow on his lap was lifted.
Chen Kongqing turned his face away. He didn’t dare lower his head, and he didn’t dare look at Xu Jingmo. He could only face the opposite direction. Ideally, he wanted to find a crack in the floor tiles to crawl into.
Silence enveloped the room.
Chen Kongqing gripped the sofa armrest, his whole body tense like a drawn bow.
Why isn’t Dr. Xu saying anything?
Does he also think I’m a strange pervert, getting an erection so casually in someone else’s home?
His eyes grew wet again. A hot tear escaped the corner of his eye and trailed down his cheek, pulled by gravity.
Suddenly, the tear was caught.
Xu Jingmo used a thumb, textured with light calluses, to gently press against the wet side of the rabbit’s face. The hot tear dissolved into the skin of his thumb.
The rabbit turned his head away, his body trembling slightly. But soon, he stopped hiding. His body was like a dried-up well; it desperately needed moisture, even if just a drop. Even this tiny bit of touch was enough to make him feel much better.
“Are you embarrassed? It’s nothing,” the man said in a comforting tone. “Patients with skin hunger have indeed experienced this. Don’t worry; it’s likely related to your recent psychological state. Has this happened before?”
Chen Kongqing still didn’t turn his face back, but his small head gave a tiny nod: “Yes… it has.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” The tear marks on the rabbit’s cheek had been wiped clean, but the man’s thumb remained pressed against that soft skin, not letting go.
Chen Kongqing lowered his gaze, his long eyelashes following suit: “I was too embarrassed to tell you…”
If he had known he’d be caught in this situation by Dr. Xu anyway, he would have been better off speaking up sooner. He really didn’t understand his own body… how could it be so “spirited” at a time like this? Was it not affected at all?
His face was already hot, and the temperature from the man’s fingertips made it even hotter.
“I am your attending physician. There is nothing to be embarrassed about; it is simply a physiological phenomenon.”
The man spoke rationally and objectively, his tone as calm and inclusive as ever. It made Chen Kongqing feel as though… maybe he really was making a mountain out of a molehill. In a doctor’s eyes, this situation probably was nothing.
But still… it was quite embarrassing.
He slowly turned his face back, and the fingertips on his cheek slowly retreated. Chen Kongqing didn’t dare look down, not even a little. He kept his gaze level: “Can I have the pillow back…”
Without it, he felt no different from not wearing pants.
“Using a pillow won’t make it go down.” The man’s voice remained flat, like a doctor giving medical instructions. “It needs to be released.”
The man said it simply, but Chen Kongqing had nearly bitten through his lip.
Xu Jingmo spoke again: “Have you done it yourself before?”
Chen Kongqing: “…”
Xu Jingmo continued: “Do you need my help?”
“No!” Chen Kongqing immediately released his bitten, numbed lip, looking around in a panic. “I… I’ll go to the bathroom.”
Xu Jingmo pointed: “That way.”
The rabbit practically bolted.
Xu Jingmo stood before the sofa, his eyes following the running rabbit. He didn’t follow—or more accurately, he didn’t dare. He knew what the rabbit was going to do in a space separated from him by only a single door. In this space where there was only him and the rabbit.
He couldn’t guarantee his self-control would remain that strong. Just sitting here, the blood in his body was already rushing to one place. The man pursed his lips, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
…
Hiding in the bathroom, Chen Kongqing was still distressed. He was worried about making a mess in someone else’s home, and even if he didn’t, it was just… weird. But it really wouldn’t go down; it felt like a stone pillar now. He had no other choice unless he knocked himself unconscious.
But he was a bit afraid of pain. So, he could only…
After an unknown amount of time, Chen Kongqing felt as if a century had passed.
Why won’t it come out?
Suddenly, the quiet space was broken by a couple of crisp knocks on the door: “Sorry, I noticed you’ve been in there a while… are you okay?”
Chen Kongqing stopped abruptly, his breath hitching: “I’m… I’m fine.”
He had no idea how hoarse his voice sounded. Or how seductive.
Standing outside the door, Xu Jingmo’s ears were already a deep red. He immediately turned around, his back to the thin bathroom door: “Okay. If you need anything…”
The youth’s soft, weak voice came from the bathroom again: “Dr. Xu…”
Mmm, calling him with a voice like that.
Xu Jingmo felt a wave of dryness in his throat, and his heart skipped a beat. “What is it?” He tried his best to keep his voice steady.
Chen Kongqing had given up, speaking with a hint of helplessness: “Can I take a shower?”
“Of course,” the man outside confirmed. “The body wash is on the shelf. Wait a moment, I’ll get you a clean towel and clothes.”
“Mm…” Chen Kongqing originally wanted to say there was no need to trouble him, that he would just wear his own clothes. But before he could speak, he heard a string of hurried footsteps outside.
After a while, just as he finished washing his hands, a shadow appeared faintly against the door: “Is it convenient to open the door?”
“Yes,” Chen Kongqing answered. After quickly wiping his wet hands, he turned the locked handle. He only opened a small crack.
Xu Jingmo handed him a stack of clothes: “They are all clean.”
“Thank you…” Chen Kongqing reached out and pulled the clothes into his arms.
“Alright, take your time.” Xu Jingmo only looked at the hand misted with a bit of water vapor. The rabbit’s hand was very white, the wrist thin, and the fingers like scallion whites; the knuckles protruded slightly but weren’t jarring—they were well-proportioned.
“Mm, thank you, Dr. Xu.” Chen Kongqing licked his dry lips and gently closed the door.
The clothes in his arms carried a faint scent of Earl Grey—subtle and pleasant. He buried his nose in the skin-friendly cotton fabric, like a small animal searching for a familiar scent.
He wasn’t sure when it started, but he had grown to love this scent. Every time he smelled it, he felt a bit of the emptiness in his heart being filled. He had liked it from the very first time he smelled it. Later, he had even looked for perfumes with a similar scent, but none were quite right. He was too embarrassed to ask Dr. Xu.
The rabbit placed the clothes on the shelf, stripped himself clean, and stepped into the shower. He turned on the showerhead. Fine, dense streams of water poured out, drenching his weary body.
His brain, tormented by his condition, found a momentary void, but soon, other pains caught up.
[“I’m sorry, Chen Kongqing, but the truth is exactly what you see.”] [“I’m exhausted from training every day, where would I find time to cheat?”] [Babe, I miss you.]
He thought back to that distant afternoon—the boy’s bright eyes and flashing canine teeth. He let out a long breath, turned off the shower, and shut out those memories. He wouldn’t think about it anymore. To be precise, he didn’t want it anymore.
After another while, the rabbit emerged from the bedroom wearing a set of dark cotton loungewear. A faint hint of the flush on his face remained. Dr. Xu’s clothes were very comfortable, everything was perfect, except… they didn’t fit well. They were a bit big.
The pant legs dragged at his heels, which was fine, but the collar was also a bit too wide. It probably wouldn’t be big on Dr. Xu. On him… it hung down a bit too low.
Xu Jingmo was currently playing with the kitten. Black Cat Detective was awake, perhaps having heard the movement or caught a scent. He came trotting toward Chen Kongqing, head swaying: “Meow~”
It was as if he was saying, Why did you just come to see me?
Chen Kongqing knelt down, stroking the kitten’s furry little head.
“He missed you a lot.” Xu Jingmo sat before the sofa, watching the rabbit and the kitten. The rabbit was wearing his clothes. No one could understand the feeling that gave him.
“I’m sorry, I’ve been too busy lately to visit,” Chen Kongqing explained to the kitten with his head down.
“Meow~” Black Cat Detective cried out in a thin voice. It seemed to say, “Mimi forgives you.”
Chen Kongqing finally flashed a relaxed smile, thinking he would order a whole box of cat treats later. This smile was, of course, captured by Xu Jingmo. This was the first time the rabbit had smiled today.
Xu Jingmo: “Come play on the sofa. Kneeling is tiring.”
“Okay.” Chen Kongqing picked up the kitten and approached the sofa.
As he stood up, he could still feel the abnormality in his body. The shower had only provided a brief effect. It clearly wasn’t enough. The smile on the rabbit’s face was suddenly buried again, his brow furrowing instinctively. Fortunately, the kitten in his arms was warm and soft.
He sat on the sofa holding the kitten. A faint herbal fragrance drifted into Xu Jingmo’s nose, mixed with the body wash he usually used. Chen Kongqing was wearing his pajamas and carrying his scent.
The man held his breath. After a two-second pause, his scattered blood began to gather and rush downward again. Two seconds later, he decided to go to the kitchen. He couldn’t stay any longer.
But Chen Kongqing, holding the kitten, spoke up: “Dr. Xu, do you have any alcohol?”
Xu Jingmo finally turned his gaze: “You want to drink?”
The rabbit nodded: “I want to drink a little. It might make me feel better.”
He didn’t want to keep making requests of Dr. Xu—it must be annoying, right? But if he drank, the part of him that shouldn’t be excited might settle down. He didn’t want a repeat of… that situation. And he didn’t want to leave yet. Because he didn’t know where to go.
“Okay, I’ll get it.” Xu Jingmo agreed and immediately went to the wine cabinet. It was rare for the rabbit to proactively ask for anything; he would certainly agree to a request like drinking.
He searched the wine cabinet and found mostly red wines, which the rabbit couldn’t drink due to his anthocyanin allergy. He had to choose a bottle of whisky with a somewhat high alcohol content. In any case, with him watching, he wouldn’t let the rabbit overdo it.
…
“Hey!”
Xu Jingmo had just put the bottle on the coffee table, thinking of getting some fruit or snacks so he wouldn’t just be drinking straight—it would be easier not to drink too much that way.
He had just gone to slice a plate of honeydew melon. When he came out, he saw the rabbit sitting cross-legged on the rug, drinking straight from the bottle. Black Cat Detective was meowing anxiously beside him.
He rushed forward, snatching the half-empty bottle from Chen Kongqing’s hand. “…Chen Kongqing! This is hard liquor, you can’t drink it like that!”
The rabbit coughed while lunging forward, reaching straight for the bottle. He didn’t catch the bottle; instead, he plunged into the arms of a certain Czechoslovakian Wolfdog.
Xu Jingmo was quick to wrap an arm around Chen Kongqing’s thin, soft waist, preventing the rabbit from smashing his face into the floor.
In the chaos, the rabbit’s soft lips brushed against his neck.
