Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 67
Chapter 67: Stop Following
During the two days of filming, Jiang Yumian finally lost her temper in the face of Zhang Yan’s constant hints at the end of the show.
When he complimented Jing Xiaoyan again, Jiang Yumian sneered. “If you want to pursue Jing Xiaoyan, go pursue her. Why are you telling me about it here? Do you need me to sign a form for approval?”
Xie Yunhuan muttered quietly on the side, “He’s not as handsome as me. My sister won’t fall for him.”
Chu Qianyun pushed him and spoke sarcastically, “Even if he was as handsome as you, Jing Xiaoyan wouldn’t fall for him.”
Zhang Yan’s face was ashen. The peaceful coexistence over the past two days was only for the camera. The moment the camera was off, their expressions changed, clearly displaying their contempt for him.
He took a deep breath, maintaining a polite smile. “I was just complimenting Sister Xiaoyan. I didn’t say I was going to pursue her. Did you misunderstand?”
Sister Xiaoyan, Sister Xiaoyan. Every time Jiang Yumian heard him say that, she felt disgusted.
She looked at Zhang Yan with a cold face. “Don’t claim false kinship. My family doesn’t have a relative like you.”
She dropped the sentence and left. A driver had come to pick her up.
Lin Xi was dumbfounded. She rubbed her chin. “Are they family now?”
Why was their development so strange?
Just as Jiang Yumian was about to get into the car, the person in another car had just gotten out.
The two looked at each other. Jing Xiaoyan quickly walked towards Jiang Yumian. She had come over right after finishing her filming, just wanting to see Jiang Yumian.
Seeing Jiang Yumian about to get in the car, she anxiously called out, “Mianmian!”
Jiang Yumian just paused, but got into the car without waiting for her to approach.
“Xiao Zhang, drive.”
The car quickly pulled onto the road. She glanced back. Jing Xiaoyan had stopped where she had just gotten into the car, and then the car turned a corner, and she couldn’t see her anymore.
Jing Xiaoyan pursed her lips, turned, and got back into her own car, giving the driver an address and following after Jiang Yumian.
Jiang Yumian sat in the car, lost in thought, her mind elsewhere.
The driver next to her suddenly spoke. “Little President Jiang, that car is following us. Should I lose them?”
Jiang Yumian’s brow twitched. She looked in the mirror. It was indeed Jing Xiaoyan’s car.
She pursed her lips. “It’s fine. Just drive as usual.”
She then took out her phone, found her phone’s blacklist. Only Jing Xiaoyan was in it. She clicked into the chat box. “Stop following. I don’t want to see you.”
Jing Xiaoyan was first delighted when she saw Jiang Yumian’s message, then she couldn’t help but smile bitterly when she read the content. She wanted to reply, asking her to wait for her, but the message didn’t go through. She was still blocked.
Jiang Yumian hadn’t deleted her, just blacklisted her.
She looked up at the car ahead, her fingers tightening on her phone.
Her voice was helpless. “Go back. Don’t follow anymore.”
Xiao Feng sighed softly. Jing Xiaoyan’s schedule had been packed these past few days. She had almost finished a week’s worth of scenes, and hadn’t really rested. The only time she requested to rest was to come here to see Jiang Yumian, but… she hadn’t even managed to say a word.
On the rest of the journey, Jing Xiaoyan’s car was nowhere to be seen. Jiang Yumian looked at the chat page on her phone. She knew in her heart that she couldn’t bear to delete those chat records, which is why she hadn’t removed Jing Xiaoyan.
She scrolled her finger on the page, but finally backed out.
It was very late when she got home. Jiang Yumian reheated her dinner, ate a little, and was about to go upstairs when she saw Jing Xiaoyan (the dog) suddenly appear.
Jiang Yumian froze in place. She only snapped out of it when Jiang Xiaoyan gently scratched her calf with its paw.
She sighed softly, speaking warmly, “Jiang Xiaoyan, sit.”
Jiang Xiaoyan, understanding the command, quickly sat down, grinning with a pair of bright eyes looking up at Jiang Yumian.
Jiang Yumian squatted down and stroked its head. “You’re the best-behaved.”
Hearing the praise, Jiang Xiaoyan barked excitedly: “Woof!”
Jiang Yumian quickly placed a finger to her lips. “Shh! Don’t be noisy. Go to sleep.”
The puppy understood, but having not seen Jiang Yumian for a few days, it was reluctant to leave. It rubbed its head against Jiang Yumian’s knee, its tail constantly wagging, whining softly.
Jiang Yumian’s heart softened. She hugged it. Jiang Xiaoyan had grown so much, almost as big as an adult dog.
She whispered, “Xiaoyan-yan, I shouldn’t have given you this name. It always reminds me of her.”
Then her nose stung, and she continued to talk to herself, “But she only did it because she liked me. If only she hadn’t liked me.”
Jiang Xiaoyan rubbed against her in her arms, letting out a soft whimper.
Jiang Yumian patted its head and let it go, patiently coaxing it, “I need to sleep. I’ll play with you tomorrow after work, okay?”
Jiang Xiaoyan hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
Its reaction surprised Jiang Yumian. It actually nodded.
So smart.
She couldn’t resist stroking it again. “So smart. You go to sleep too.”
Jiang Yumian went upstairs and took a shower. Lying in bed with her phone, she wondered if Jing Xiaoyan had gone back and if she was still filming.
Since all contact methods were blocked, she opened Weibo, uncontrollably clicking on her Weibo profile.
There were no new updates.
Jiang Yumian let out a light breath, looked at the trending topics. There was a tag about her live broadcast from the day before yesterday.
Her “let’s stop here” was interpreted by netizens and fans as meaning she was leaving the entertainment industry to go home and inherit the family fortune. The trending topic hadn’t been removed for two days.
Jiang Yumian scrolled through it and didn’t plan to respond. It was fine this way.
She had a bit of insomnia. Her mind was full of Jing Xiaoyan all night, and she was very tired when she woke up the next day.
She didn’t have time to eat breakfast after washing up. Just before leaving, she unexpectedly ran into her aunt, who had just finished breakfast.
“Aunt, you’re home.” Jiang Yumian greeted her with a smile.
Her aunt quickly nodded. “Mianmian, you came back last night, right? Your mom isn’t awake yet. Your aunt has something to tell you.”
Jiang Yumian paused, a little resistant. “Aunt, I’m going to be late for work. Let’s talk when I get back from work.”
Her aunt called out to stop her. “Hey! Mianmian!”
Jiang Yumian waved at her. “Bye, Aunt!”
Then she turned and walked out the door. By the time her aunt chased her out, she was already in the car.
Her aunt: “…”
A gloomy voice suddenly came from behind her. “What do you mean, ‘I’m not awake yet’?”
Her aunt froze and turned around, laughing dryly. “Sister…”
Her mother snorted coldly. “So I was delaying your confession?”
Her aunt twitched her mouth. “No, it’s just that you weren’t around…”
Then she quickly changed the subject. “Cough, well, Mianmian left too quickly. Give me Mianmian’s contact information. I can tell her on WeChat.”
Her mother glanced at her. “Who knows what you’ll say on WeChat? I know your ability to talk nonsense, don’t I?”
“You talk to Mianmian face-to-face and explain clearly. I’ll be right there watching you. Don’t even think about misleading Mianmian. I can tell the truth from a lie at a glance.”
Her mother finished speaking, snorted, and left, leaving her aunt alone at home.
Her aunt chuckled. “…Are none of you eating breakfast?”
Coming to the company this time, the office was finally quiet. Presumably, everyone had heard that the cooperation with the Cui family had been canceled. No one was rushing to send her flowers anymore, and no one was asking her out for dinner.
Although it was quiet, Jiang Yumian had more and more work on her plate. She was also slowly getting involved in recent projects.
An hour before getting off work, Zou Xian was still in her office, talking to her about the latest app, which was for their company’s internal use.
“When you exit this page, you can add a floating window. That way it’s more convenient.” Jiang Yumian handed the tablet to Xiao Zou. This wasn’t really work. She was just the latest employee testing the experience.
Xiao Zou nodded, scrolling through the tablet, and found a game. “Look at this. This is a game developed by a game studio our company recently acquired. It’s very popular recently, and they are looking for an endorser.”
Jiang Yumian raised an eyebrow, unable to resist teasing, “You’re not going to let me endorse it, are you?”
Zou Xian shrugged. “Of course not. But they raised this issue, probably hoping you’d look for one. Be reliable. What if the endorser they find ends up having a scandal?”
“We’ll talk about it later. No rush.” Jiang Yumian said, clicking on the game. “I want to see if this game is actually fun.”
Zou Xian’s forehead was covered in black lines. “I think you just want to play it…”
Jiang Yumian shook her head seriously. “I just want to test if it’s worth hiring an endorser.”
Zou Xian sighed softly, letting her play. After all, Jiang Yumian had been silent all day. She finally had a little vitality, so she had to indulge her, otherwise, she was afraid she would go crazy from boredom.
When Zou Xian entered the office again, Jiang Yumian had been playing for almost an hour.
“Little President Jiang, a Miss Yin outside says she would like to see you.”
Jiang Yumian’s hand playing the game froze. She glanced at the time. Five minutes until closing time. Was she here to ask her out for dinner?
She was silent for a few seconds, thinking it wasn’t good to keep someone waiting. She nodded. “Let her come in.”
Yin Xiangyu was quickly ushered into the office. Xiao Zou poured her a glass of water and left.
Jiang Yumian had put away the tablet. She looked at the person who sat down on the sofa to her left and nodded slightly in greeting. “Miss Yin, what can I do for you?”
Yin Xiangyu smiled lightly. “I apologize for disturbing you during your work hours.”
Jiang Yumian shook her head. “It’s fine. I’m about to get off work.”
The smile on Yin Xiangyu’s face deepened. She took a document from her bag and went straight to the point. “I’m here for official business. I heard you plan to get involved in rural logistics. Our company has this idea too. We can cooperate. After all, everyone’s goal is the same.”
Jiang Yumian was a little surprised. She looked at the document on the table and shook her head. “Our goals should be different. I’m not doing this to make money.”
“I know.” Yin Xiangyu answered quickly.
Jiang Yumian was startled, then heard her say,
Yin Xiangyu explained with a smile. “I watch all your shows. You had this idea after returning from the mountain village, didn’t you?”
Jiang Yumian was silent. After a moment, she reached out and finally picked up the document on the table.
It was a research report. The content was very detailed, precisely pointing out the problems, and it was almost identical to the report Jiang Yumian had received last week.
Yin Xiangyu had clearly put a lot of thought into this.
After reading it, Jiang Yumian finally addressed Yin Xiangyu with a more formal attitude. “What are your thoughts?”
Yin Xiangyu glanced at the report in her hand, pursed her lips, and smiled. “It’s a bit late today. Why don’t we grab dinner together and discuss it over the meal?”
Jiang Yumian was aware of her obvious intention. It was just dinner. She thought about it and nodded, standing up. “Okay, but I have to go home early.”
She had promised Jiang Xiaoyan she would go back and play with her.
Yin Xiangyu stood up too. Although she didn’t understand why Jiang Yumian, being so old, was still restricted by her elders’ curfews, she still spoke understandingly, “Okay, it won’t take too long. It’s just dinner.”
When the two of them left, most of the people in the outer office had already gone. There weren’t many people in the elevator or outside.
Yin Xiangyu had driven herself. Her car was parked nearby.
“Wait for me here. I’ll drive over.”
Jiang Yumian nodded. It was a little cold outside. She tucked her hands into her jacket and looked down at the tips of her shoes. On such a cold day, she wondered if Jing Xiaoyan was cold while filming.
Yin Xiangyu’s car quickly drove up. It was the blue Tesla she had seen last time. Jiang Yumian reached out to open the back door, but the person in front stopped her.
“Hey! Sit in the front.”
Jiang Yumian’s hand on the door handle paused. She was a little hesitant.
Yin Xiangyu sighed softly. “I have a few glass samples in the back that take up space, so please sit in the front.”
It was hard not to suspect she was being deliberate, but thinking about it now was useless.
Jiang Yumian was helpless, so she walked to the other side of the car. Just as she was about to open the door, her eyes met Jing Xiaoyan, who had appeared downstairs at her company sometime.
Her heart skipped a beat. Her throat tightened. She didn’t know how long she had been there, but in this situation, being seen by Jing Xiaoyan getting into Yin Xiangyu’s car, made her feel a little flustered.
Seeing her hesitate to get into the car, Yin Xiangyu followed her gaze towards the company entrance and quickly spotted Jing Xiaoyan too.
She pursed her lips and asked softly, “Do you want to go say hello?”
Jiang Yumian reacted to the sound. She let out a light breath and got into the car. “No need. Let’s go.”
Yin Xiangyu was silent for two seconds and rolled up the window.
She didn’t start the car immediately, but thought for a moment and said, “I watched your live broadcast that day. Those words you said, did you break up with your girlfriend?”
The car was quiet for two seconds. Yin Xiangyu pursed her lips and smiled. “Sorry, that might be too blunt, but I told you, if she’s not good to you, I’ll take my chance.”
Jiang Yumian hadn’t fully recovered from her mention of the breakup when she heard her say this.
Perhaps because Jing Xiaoyan was there, she felt anxious and subconsciously shook her head, quickly refusing. “Thank you, but please don’t like me or pursue me.”
Yin Xiangyu smiled and nodded, looking out the window again. Jing Xiaoyan didn’t approach, but she also didn’t leave. She sighed softly. She didn’t know what kind of conflict they were having, but it wasn’t good to leave her standing there alone.
She turned and asked Jiang Yumian, “Are you sure you don’t want to say anything to her?”
Jiang Yumian was startled. She turned to pull on her seatbelt, hiding the emotion in her eyes. She lowered her head and whispered, “No need. Let’s go.”
