Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: Pointless Excitement
Su Mumu quietly listened to Jiang Yumian’s passive-aggressive words on her behalf, and she already knew what she meant.
Although she knew Jiang Yumian was doing it on purpose, after hearing her speak, she felt that Jiang Yumian’s words made perfect sense.
She scoffed, pretending to be angry, her tone cool. “Yunyun, isn’t my friend important?”
Chu Qianyun quickly hugged her arm, looking at her with a pleading expression. “Mumu…”
Jiang Yumian glanced at Jing Xiaoyan, who was looking their way, glared at her irritably, and turned her head to continue. “Sister Yunyun, it’s not too late for you to abandon the darkness and embrace the light.”
Su Mumu cleared her throat, raised an eyebrow, and nodded. “Correct.”
Chu Qianyun bit her lip, finally conceding, “Alright, I won’t tell Jing Xiaoyan that you already know. You can retaliate against her however you like.”
Su Mumu couldn’t help but chuckle. She decided to let Chu Qianyun off the hook and reminded her, “You can ask Mianmian to forgive you if you help her get Lin Xi to switch sides later.”
“Mumu, you understand me best!” Jiang Yumian gave Su Mumu a thumbs-up.
Su Mumu laughed at Jiang Yumian, a little annoyed. She was just childish, feeling embarrassed that she had been tricked earlier, and being uncomfortable because two people were laughing at her expense.
Her telling Chu Qianyun was intentional. First, to reprimand her. Second, to use the same method to trick Jing Xiaoyan and make them laugh at her.
However, she estimated that the matter would probably be considered even in the end. Jiang Yumian couldn’t bring herself to bully Jing Xiaoyan. The highest level of retaliation would be to make Jing Xiaoyan look foolish like herself.
Chu Qianyun was stuck between the two of them. She closed her eyes when Jing Xiaoyan was about to reach them, accepting her fate with a nod. “Okay!”
Jing Xiaoyan sat down right next to Jiang Yumian when she arrived. “Why were you glaring at me just now?”
“Eat the noodles.” Jiang Yumian ignored her, handing her a bowl of noodles to silence her.
Lin Xi, who followed closely behind, also chimed in. “Mianmian, where are my noodles?”
Jiang Yumian pointed to the pot. “Serve yourself. The bowls are with Mumu.”
Lin Xi scoffed lightly, quietly squatting down next to Su Mumu and starting to serve herself noodles.
Jing Xiaoyan narrowed her eyes at Jiang Yumian. “Were you guys just talking bad about me?”
Jiang Yumian raised an eyebrow. “No.”
Jing Xiaoyan snorted. “You definitely were. I’ll check the replay later. I want to hear what you said about me.”
Chu Qianyun’s heart leaped. She exchanged a look with Su Mumu. If she watched it, wouldn’t she know everything?
Jiang Yumian first gave them a reassuring look, then looked at Jing Xiaoyan and said smugly, “Don’t bother. My mic wasn’t on. And the cameraman wasn’t here just now. He went to rest after filming me cook the noodles. The shift replacement hasn’t arrived yet.”
Su Mumu and Chu Qianyun had changed clothes earlier and didn’t bother wearing their mics, so no sound would have been picked up. Jing Xiaoyan wouldn’t hear a thing.
Chu Qianyun only breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Jiang Yumian say the mic was turned off.
Jing Xiaoyan reached out and pinched Jiang Yumian’s face. “So you were talking bad about me?”
Jiang Yumian gave her a sideways look. “Let go. It was Sister Yunyun who was talking bad about you, not me.”
Chu Qianyun: “…”
After quickly finishing dinner, the few of them washed up simply and went into their tents. They had initially planned to sit outside and chat for a while, but it was too cold in the mountains to sit still.
A small lamp was placed in the corner of the tent. It wasn’t very bright, but the brightness was just right.
There was also a small GoPro. Jiang Yumian turned it off before getting into her sleeping bag, planning to turn it back on when she woke up in the morning.
Before Jing Xiaoyan came in, she burrowed into the sleeping bag, facing the tent, giving Jing Xiaoyan the back of her head.
Jing Xiaoyan stooped down, zipped up the tent, and sat inside. After two seconds of silence, she reached out and poked Jiang Yumian’s back.
Jiang Yumian deliberately pretended to be asleep, not moving at all.
“Mianmian, it’s still early. You’re definitely not asleep.”
Jing Xiaoyan said, pushing her forcefully.
Jiang Yumian kicked her feet and turned to look at her. “What do you want?”
Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes held a smile. She lay down next to Jiang Yumian, reached out, and hugged her through the sleeping bag. She tightened her wrist, and the person inside couldn’t move at all.
“Chat with me.”
Jiang Yumian blinked at her. “Let go of me.”
Knowing she couldn’t move now, Jing Xiaoyan smiled even more cheekily. She raised her head and leaned in, her face almost touching Jiang Yumian’s, nearly kissing her.
Jiang Yumian held her breath, staring at Jing Xiaoyan warily. Her gaze landed on Jing Xiaoyan’s close, red lips, and her throat tightened.
When Jing Xiaoyan cautiously leaned in again, she quickly snapped out of it, pulling her head back, and warning her aloud, “If you dare to kiss me here, I won’t forgive you.”
Jing Xiaoyan paused, then immediately stopped moving, resting honestly by Jiang Yumian’s pillow.
She closed her eyes, the force on her hand relaxing significantly. Her head rested on Jiang Yumian’s shoulder, as if she was resting.
No longer restrained, Jiang Yumian reached out from the sleeping bag and placed her hand over Jing Xiaoyan’s face without hesitation, pushing it backward forcefully.
Jing Xiaoyan grabbed her hand and took it away from her face. She opened her eyes, her voice small. “Don’t move. I’ve been walking all day. Let me lie here for a while.”
Jiang Yumian withdrew her hand. “Wouldn’t it be more comfortable to just burrow into your own sleeping bag and rest?”
“Then I wouldn’t be able to hug you.” Jing Xiaoyan smiled, patting the sleeping bag where her hand rested on Jiang Yumian.
She just regretted that there wasn’t a double sleeping bag.
Not knowing what to say, Jiang Yumian looked at her twice, then lay down flat, closed her eyes, and decided to just ignore her.
Jing Xiaoyan watched her quietly. A few minutes later, she rubbed her chin against Jiang Yumian’s shoulder, sighing lightly, and whispered, “How can I ever get you to go out with me…”
Jiang Yumian slowly opened her eyes, wanting to say something, but nothing came out. It wasn’t until Jing Xiaoyan took advantage of her daze and kissed her on the cheek that she turned to look at her.
“Try kissing me one more time?” Jiang Yumian’s tone was cold, and she looked at Jing Xiaoyan with very unfriendly eyes.
Jing Xiaoyan wasn’t afraid of her at all. She nodded and smiled. “Sure.”
Jiang Yumian quickly pushed her face away. In the end, she couldn’t bring herself to be angry with her. “Stop messing around. Go lie down properly.”
Jing Xiaoyan struggled out of her hand, looking a little troubled, but she still opened her own sleeping bag and got inside.
She lay down right next to Jiang Yumian, their heads touching.
“Mianmian.”
Called out to unexpectedly, Jiang Yumian opened her eyes to look at her.
“You’ll definitely be with me.”
Jing Xiaoyan’s tone was extremely confident, as if she was certain Jiang Yumian would agree to her.
Jiang Yumian closed her eyes again. “Don’t be so confident. You’re not the only one pursuing me. I think Yin Xiangyu is very nice. If it weren’t for you, I would seriously consider the possibility of being with her.”
“Don’t deliberately use others to annoy me.” Jing Xiaoyan frowned, clearly displeased.
Jiang Yumian sighed lightly. “I’m not deliberately annoying you, just telling the truth. Before, there were no girls who openly pursued me like this. You are the first, and Yin Xiangyu is the second. And I’m a lookist. In terms of looks, Yin Xiangyu is already within the range I like.”
Hearing her say this seriously, Jing Xiaoyan felt a knot in her heart. She had only met Jiang Yumian a month earlier than Yin Xiangyu. If she had come any later, it might not have been Yin Xiangyu who was overlooked by Jiang Yumian, but herself.
Struck by Jiang Yumian’s words, Jing Xiaoyan frowned in thought. The more she thought about it, the more upset she became. She hadn’t forgotten what Jiang Yumian told her—that her feelings for her weren’t very deep.
But…
“But you like me now.”
Jing Xiaoyan wasn’t sure if she was saying this for Jiang Yumian or to reassure herself.
Jiang Yumian opened her eyes again, a light flickering in her eyes. She quickly said, “Actually, there’s one thing I haven’t told you.”
Jing Xiaoyan blinked. “What is it?”
“You and my girlfriend have the exact same voice.” Jiang Yumian intentionally paused after saying this. Seeing Jing Xiaoyan’s expression freeze, she smiled and deliberately added, “Actually, many times, I associate her good qualities with you, as well as my affection for her.”
“So I do like you quite a bit, because I’ve placed a filter on you.”
Jing Xiaoyan was stunned for a long time, unable to speak. Her mind raced for a while, and she summarized, “So, I… I’m a substitute?”
Jiang Yumian softly hummed in affirmation, a faint, imperceptible smile on her face.
The nearly heartbroken Jing Xiaoyan quickly cleared her mind. It’s fine if I’m my own substitute, right?
She brooded for a long time and finally couldn’t help but say, “Then what if my girlfriend and I, what if we are the same person?”
Jiang Yumian deliberately laughed. “Stop it. You two aren’t alike at all. Besides the same voice, you’re not similar in any other way. She’s not as shameless as you and is very gentle with me.”
“Hey!” Jing Xiaoyan raised her head. “Can’t you just imagine, what if it’s true?”
Jiang Yumian deliberately rolled her eyes and complained, “Aren’t you boring? How can I imagine something impossible?”
She then deliberately added, “Although I did wonder if you were her. If you two were the same person, then I might consider trying to be with you.”
Jing Xiaoyan: !
“Mianmian!” She raised her head and leaned towards Jiang Yumian, her tone full of excitement.
Jiang Yumian suppressed her laughter and said irritably, “Can you lie down properly?”
She continued to speak, blocking Jing Xiaoyan’s next words. “Why are you so overly excited? Don’t focus on the wrong thing. I said I would only consider it if you two were the same person, but you’re not.”
Jing Xiaoyan urgently started to say, “I am…”
Jiang Yumian immediately interrupted her. “You’re not. Stop talking nonsense. If you really were, wouldn’t you have been messing with me for the past month? Not only would I not get together with you, but I would make sure you’re miserable.”
Jing Xiaoyan: “…”
Having been blocked so many times, she didn’t dare to admit it.
“Let’s sleep,” she replied dryly, her tone sounding utterly defeated.
Jiang Yumian retracted her face into the sleeping bag, hiding her smug smile.
Being able to make Jing Xiaoyan feel thwarted was immensely satisfying.
Despite her frustration, Jing Xiaoyan still wouldn’t deprive herself. She squeezed closer to Jiang Yumian until there was no more space to squeeze.
Warm breath tickled her neck. Jiang Yumian helplessly opened her eyes, looked at Jing Xiaoyan’s head, and lightly bumped her forehead against it, annoyed.
“Just suffocate me already!”
Jing Xiaoyan: “Mhm.”
Mhm. She actually had the nerve to say “mhm.” Jiang Yumian looked up at the ceiling of the tent.
The night passed without dreams.
When Jiang Yumian woke up, Jing Xiaoyan was no longer by her side.
That was unusual.
Jiang Yumian rubbed her eyes and called out towards the outside of the tent. “Jing Xiaoyan?”
She waited a few seconds. No response.
Jiang Yumian closed her eyes again, thinking her voice was too soft and Jing Xiaoyan hadn’t heard her. However, after calling out, she realized she didn’t really need anything from her.
She was still a little sleepy, and it was too cold outside the sleeping bag. She didn’t get out right away. Since no one was rushing her, she thought for a moment and decided to go back to sleep. She believed Jing Xiaoyan would come and wake her up and wouldn’t let her miss the time.
Jing Xiaoyan was currently outside cooking porridge. Chu Qianyun and Lin Xi were next to her.
“If you want to be proactive and show off early in the morning, you can do it by yourself. Why did you have to drag me along?”
Lin Xi had just finished washing up, and her eyes were full of resentment as she looked at Jing Xiaoyan. She had just opened her eyes when Jing Xiaoyan called her out. She was freezing this early in the morning.
Right now, it was only the three of them and Ling Yisong outside. Ling Yisong was washing up, and the others were still sleeping.
Chu Qianyun was the earliest riser. Thanks to Jiang Yumian, she was scolded by Su Mumu last night, so she planned to wake up early this morning to make breakfast for her girlfriend and cheer her up.
Jing Xiaoyan stirred the porridge in the pot and went straight to the point. “I need you two to quickly think of a way for me to confess to Mianmian in a better way.”
Lin Xi was startled. She blinked. Chu Qianyun had already told her yesterday that Jiang Yumian knew everything.
Now, Jing Xiaoyan was the one in the dark.
Chu Qianyun and Lin Xi exchanged glances. Chu Qianyun hissed softly, curious. “Why are you so anxious to confess now?”
Jing Xiaoyan suddenly smiled and briefly repeated what happened yesterday to them.
The two of them were initially confused, but finally understood.
Lin Xi burst out laughing, unable to hold it in.
“You mean, Mianmian said you’re a substitute for her girlfriend?”
Seeing Lin Xi mock her, Jing Xiaoyan wasn’t angry. Instead, she looked proud. “Yeah, it’s still me anyway. What’s wrong with being my own substitute?”
Hearing her say this, Lin Xi laughed even louder.
Chu Qianyun turned her head, laughing at Jing Xiaoyan. Jiang Yumian really knew how to play.
Jing Xiaoyan forcefully coughed. “Stop laughing and help me think.”
Lin Xi tried her best to suppress her laughter, but couldn’t. After a long laugh, she finally said, “I advise you to stop thinking. Three heads are not always better than one.”
They truly couldn’t help.
This matter would only be resolved when Jiang Yumian no longer wanted to play and wanted to be with Jing Xiaoyan.
Chu Qianyun also nodded. “I can’t help. Think for yourself. I can’t assist you.”
She stood up under Jing Xiaoyan’s “What good are you to me” gaze. “I’m going to see if my Mumu is awake.”
Lin Xi shrugged and also planned to leave. “I’m going to wake up Xie Yunhuan and Chu Baiyue.”
Jing Xiaoyan looked at the porridge in the pot. After pondering for a few seconds, she put down the spoon and walked towards her tent.
Jiang Yumian was chilled by a sudden rush of cold air into the tent. She wasn’t sleeping too deeply. She sensed Jing Xiaoyan kneeling beside her, leaning over, and she closed her eyes even tighter.
Her face was inevitably kissed again. This time, Jiang Yumian wanted to pretend she didn’t know, but Jing Xiaoyan had already realized she was awake.
“Stop pretending, Mianmian. I know you’re awake.”
Jiang Yumian opened her eyes irritably. “You know I’m awake and you still kiss me?”
Jing Xiaoyan raised an eyebrow and scoffed softly. “I saw you waiting for me to kiss you, so I obliged.”
Jiang Yumian: “You!”
Jing Xiaoyan interrupted her. “Don’t be angry. I’ll secretly kiss you next time.”
