Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: She’s Done For
Mentally ill?
Jing Xiaoyan held her phone, lost in thought. She hadn’t done anything, had she…
Over on the other side, Jiang Yumian continued to send messages.
Sea Cotton has Baby: “Sister, could it be that you like Jing Xiaoyan yourself?”
Sea Cotton has Baby: “If you like her, I can send you her contact info. You can take her off my hands.”
Sea Cotton has Baby: “Sister, why aren’t you answering me? Are you still busy?”
Jing Xiaoyan’s expression grew darker and darker. Did Jiang Yumian really like pushing her to other people this much?
Surname Jing: “Doesn’t she like you? Why are you pushing her to me.”
Surname Jing: “She’d be angry if she knew, wouldn’t she.”
Jiang Yumian looked at the profile picture, this chat box, and found it genuinely difficult to be harsh on the person on the other side. The filter of “sugar mommy sister” was too thick.
She pinched her own face to sober up. This is Jing Xiaoyan! The Jing Xiaoyan with too many cunning plans to use!
Sea Cotton has Baby: “Who cares if she gets angry? If Sister likes her, I can help Sister play matchmaker.”
Sea Cotton has Baby: [Hehe.jpg]
Sea Cotton has Baby: “If you two end up together, Sister, remember to invite me to the wedding banquet, hehe.”
Jing Xiaoyan was so angry that her breathing was uneven. Wedding banquet? She’d drink her head off!
Surname Jing: “I’m not interested.”
Surname Jing: “You two are a good match. You should take her. I’ll support both of you.”
Surname Jing: “I can pay for you two to stream your interactions for me.”
Jiang Yumian almost rolled her eyes to the heavens. She had to admit, in the past, she might have been genuinely tempted. It was just about partnering up with Jing Xiaoyan, right?
But now, all she wanted was to grab Jing Xiaoyan and give her a good beating.
Sea Cotton has Baby: “Hmph, that’s not funny. I don’t want to be paired with her.”
Surname Jing: “But I think it works. I love watching it. Would Mianmian be willing to make a sacrifice?”
Sea Cotton has Baby: “Say that again and I’m ignoring you.”
Surname Jing: “Fine.”
Jiang Yumian tapped the screen with gritted teeth. Bad woman, bad woman.
She’s the only one with so many tricks up her sleeve. Pfft, pfft, pfft!
Before even reaching the doorstep, Jiang Yumian saw Jiang Xiaoyan (the dog) running towards her car. Its eyes were shining, and it was happily running and hopping.
Jiang Yumian rolled down the window, pointed at the main gate, and pursed her lips. “Go back, go back. I’ll come play with you after I drive the car in.”
Understanding Jiang Yumian’s words, Jiang Xiaoyan barked happily, turned around, and ran ahead of Jiang Yumian, as if leading the way for her.
Jiang Yumian muttered behind it, “Why is it as clingy as Jing Xiaoyan?”
One person and one dog entered the house. Jiang Yumian lay casually on the sofa, throwing a ball for the dog. After playing enough, she went to the kitchen to find food.
Jiang Yumian was eating when her mother’s voice suddenly entered the dining room.
“Honey, why didn’t you look for me when you got back?”
Jiang Yumian looked up, her finger still pointing at her phone on the side. She gave a slight hum and replied, “I thought you were asleep.”
Her mother pulled a chair and sat next to her, looking exasperated. “It’s only eight o’clock, why would I be asleep?”
Jiang Yumian looked at her, then grumbled, “If you weren’t asleep, why didn’t you reply to my messages?”
Her mother was speechless.
“Fine, I didn’t see them. I have something to tell you.”
Jiang Yumian’s face fell. “Why didn’t you ask me what I sent you first?”
Her mother blinked. “Oh, what did you send me then?”
Jiang Yumian took a deep breath. What could she have sent? She just said she was done filming and was coming home, asking her to save her some food. When she didn’t reply, she thought she would go hungry. Thankfully, the family’s auntie was thoughtful and saved her a portion.
She said irritably, “I didn’t send anything. What did you want to tell me?”
Her mother cleared her throat. “Your… your youngest aunt is coming back from abroad in a few days.”
Jiang Yumian’s finger, which was on the screen, paused. She looked confused. Her youngest aunt?
“Mom, be clearer. Which youngest aunt of mine?”
She had many relatives. Every year during Chinese New Year, the living room was full of people, all her relatives. She still hadn’t fully recognized them all. She didn’t know why there were so many side branches. During the New Year, they even turned her, a social butterfly, into a social phobic. Calling out names, she couldn’t remember a single one.
Her mother glared at her angrily. “Your biological youngest aunt. The real one.”
Jiang Yumian opened her mouth, remaining silent for a few seconds. She asked curiously, “Is it the rebellious youngest aunt who ran away from home for more than ten years, was caught back by my grandmother before she passed away to get married, and then ran away again?”
No wonder she wasn’t familiar with her; she had only seen this aunt a few times.
Jiang Yuyu slapped Jiang Yumian on the back of the head.
“Watch your language. Your aunt is developing her career abroad, not running away from home. She just doesn’t like being managed.”
Jiang Yumian held the back of her head, looking disgruntled. “How would I know? You never told me.”
Her mother snorted. “I told you, but you said you wouldn’t listen, you couldn’t remember all these family members, and you told me not to bother you.”
Jiang Yumian thought for a long time. She didn’t understand. “Your biological sister, my biological youngest aunt. Why didn’t you tell me when she came back before, and why are you specifically telling me this today?”
“Because she only came back once before, and you were busy filming in the deep mountains. I called her back this time.” Thinking of something, her mother tapped the table, reminding her, “Do you want to hide?”
Jiang Yumian was a bit confused. “My aunt is coming home. Why should I hide?”
Her mother scratched her chin. “You don’t know yet?”
Did Jing Xiaoyan not tell her?
She saw the situation online and believed that Jing Xiaoyan was pursuing her daughter. She thought her daughter already knew.
Jiang Yumian put down her chopsticks. “What should I know?”
Her mother blinked, pondered for two seconds. “Never mind. Let’s talk about it after your aunt comes back. I have something about work to tell you.”
Although it felt strange, Jiang Yumian was too lazy to ask. Since her mother said to drop it, she would. She’d let nature take its course.
Jiang Yumian: “What about work?”
Her mother shrugged. “It’s not really work. There’s a charity gala on Wednesday. They invited us to go. I won’t go. It’s mostly young people. You can handle it yourself. Just go and let people butter you up, and meet some people.”
Jiang Yumian nodded. She was just starting out and should be socializing with these people.
When they were done talking, she looked at Jiang Xiaoyan (the dog) playing with a ball at her feet. Jiang Yumian was silent for a few seconds, then looked at her mother.
“Mom, if I were really with Jing Xiaoyan, would you object?”
Her mother rubbed her face and sized up Jiang Yumian. She spoke only when Jiang Yumian was getting anxious from being stared at. “I wouldn’t object. Xiaoyan is a pretty good kid, isn’t she? I’m just worried it would be awkward if you break up later.”
They would still be family even after breaking up. How would they interact when they meet later?
Jiang Yumian’s face was covered in black lines. “Mom, you really think ahead. We haven’t even started dating yet, and you’re already thinking about the breakup part…”
Right after she said this, her phone on the table rang. It was Jing Xiaoyan, who had just complained about her secretly running home.
Her mother tactfully stood up. “Clean up your own dishes. I’m going back to my room.”
Jiang Yumian answered the phone, pursing her lips without speaking.
“Mianmian~” The deliberately drawn-out tone fell into Jiang Yumian’s ears, and her heart felt tickled.
She swallowed and said seriously, “Why are you calling me?”
Jing Xiaoyan chuckled softly. “Nothing much. Just wanted to tell you I’ve arrived too.”
Jiang Yumian: “…”
“Are you okay?” Jiang Yumian picked up the dishes and walked towards the kitchen. As she walked, she said, “If you’re okay, I’m hanging up.”
Jing Xiaoyan quickly called out to stop her. “Don’t hang up. I just called you. Talk to me for a bit.”
Putting the dishes into the dishwasher, Jiang Yumian waited a few seconds before replying. Holding the phone, her tone was ruthless. “Go talk to someone else. I need to take a shower. I have work tomorrow.”
“I won’t find anyone else, no. I only like you. I only want to talk to you. Why do you keep telling me to find someone else?”
The tone on the other end suddenly became a little anxious, and if one listened closely, there was a hint of anger.
Jiang Yumian was helpless and deliberately said perfunctorily, “Alright, alright, I won’t tell you to find someone else.”
The other side was silent for a long time. Just when Jiang Yumian thought she might have hung up, she finally spoke.
“Don’t patronize me. I’m serious.”
Jiang Yumian slightly lowered her eyelids and reached out to stroke Jiang Xiaoyan’s head. “Fine. If you dare to talk to someone else or like someone else in the future, I will torment you to death.”
Jing Xiaoyan on the other end of the phone was stunned, completely unable to believe Jiang Yumian would say such a thing to her.
Jiang Yumian snorted. “Satisfied now?”
Jing Xiaoyan blinked. “Yes, I’m very satisfied. How about you say a few more lines? I want to hear more.”
Jiang Yumian rolled her eyes. What kind of preference was that? She must have some masochistic tendencies.
She couldn’t help but say, “You’re crazy. I’m not talking to you anymore. I really need to take a shower.”
Jing Xiaoyan gently said “Oh,” then suddenly asked, “There’s a music festival on Thursday. Are you going? Lin Xi also has a performance.”
Although she told Lin Xi she wouldn’t go, she just wanted to find an excuse to ask Jiang Yumian out. What if she agreed?
Jiang Yumian was actually quite interested in music festivals. She had wanted to go before, but she didn’t have time now. She had the gala on Wednesday, might not even be back on Thursday, and she had to work on Friday. How could she go to a music festival?
She sighed softly, her voice sounding slightly tired. “I won’t go this time. Maybe next time.”
Jing Xiaoyan agreed quickly. “Okay. Then Mianmian owes me a date.”
Jiang Yumian: “…”
She really had a way with words.
Jiang Yumian didn’t even think and just said goodbye, then immediately hung up.
She should just hurry up and wash up and go to bed. She was exhausted.
She had just finished one job and had to continue with another. Three days of filming and four days of work every week. Not a single day off.
She stayed busy until Wednesday. Jiang Yumian realized that the most tiring thing wasn’t sitting in the office reading documents, but attending these useless galas. Her face was almost frozen from smiling.
She could anticipate many people coming to compliment her. She had already prepared herself for that. It’s just drinking some wine. Her identity wouldn’t cause many people to pressure her to drink.
But she didn’t know why!
So many daughters from rich families kept trying to stick to her!
At first, she felt it was rude to refuse girls. They just chatted with her for a bit. There was no need to put on airs. She drank when offered. But afterward, a constant stream of people came up. Even she, as clumsy as she was, could tell something was off.
But after accepting the first glass, it felt awkward to refuse others. This led her to drink quite a lot continuously. Eventually, she seized the opportunity to use the restroom to escape.
She should have run earlier.
Jiang Yumian hadn’t even had time to change her evening gown. She was now standing outside, enjoying the cold wind, waiting for her assistant to drive the car over.
She rubbed her face, which hurt from smiling. She felt incredibly dizzy. Several people had directly hinted that they were interested in her, completely shocking her.
She really wanted to know who had leaked the information that she liked girls!
The dizziness was obvious. Jiang Yumian frowned, her cheeks flushed, and her vision slightly blurred. The alcohol was hitting her. She was definitely drunk. Thankfully, she had escaped the wolf’s den, or she wouldn’t know what might happen tomorrow.
“Mianmian!”
A familiar voice rang in her ear. The surprise and concern in the tone were very obvious.
Thinking she was hallucinating, Jiang Yumian turned her head. Seeing the person, she tried to shake her head. She wondered why she was here, but she quickly realized that she had told her “sugar mommy sister” that she was coming to this gala.
She opened her mouth slightly and slurred out, “Sister?”
Seeing her hazy eyes, Jing Xiaoyan lightly frowned. She knew she was likely drunk. The joy of finding her quickly turned into relief. It was a good thing she came. She reached out and hugged Jiang Yumian, who was clearly unsteady on her feet.
Jiang Yumian instinctively reached out to push her away, but she couldn’t. Meeting Jing Xiaoyan’s tender eyes, her heart sank.
She was done for. She had run into the most dangerous wolf outside.
