Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Sister
Although the clown in front only appeared for a moment, it successfully stunned them, and the wind inside hadn’t stopped.
Chu Qianyuan clutched Su Mumu, shouting exasperatedly, “Lu Zhi, you bad woman!”
Lin Xi was also on the verge of a breakdown. “So why is this an escape room adventure!”
Xie Yunhuan squatted next to her, his voice full of grievance. “They didn’t say it was like this before I came! I want to go into the mountains, drill into caves, break into deserted islands, I don’t want to play escape.
Ah! Ah! Ah!”
She didn’t know why he started screaming halfway through. Luo Cheng’s ears were almost deafened. She looked back, and that sight almost finished her off. She also let out a scream.
Jing Xiaoyan squinted and looked up, seeing the person wearing the pure white mask behind them. She also inhaled sharply, holding down Jiang Yumian’s restless head.
She quietly comforted, “Mianmian, don’t look.”
Hearing the unsteadiness in her tone, Jiang Yumian knew she was scared too. Jiang Yumian obediently didn’t look back, reaching out to pat her back.
With the Little Joker in front and the masked person behind, they froze in place, not daring to move.
They initially thought the masked person would just appear and disappear, but they waited for two seconds, only to see him move, walking toward them!
Xie Yunhuan was about to scream his lungs out. “Go! Go!”
Jing Xiaoyan pulled Jiang Yumian and started running forward. The clown in front must have disappeared, otherwise, they couldn’t possibly pass.
The group ran abnormally fast to the corner of the corridor, no one daring to look back, not realizing that the masked person following them had already vanished.
There were lights here, a downward staircase. They didn’t hesitate and went straight down. A journey that would have taken over ten minutes was completed in just over ten seconds.
This was a room with a clean and tidy bed, a desk covered with books, and a wardrobe. That was basically it. Unsurprisingly, it was Jiang Xiaomian’s room.
The group hadn’t fully recovered yet. Their hearts were slightly calmer now. They didn’t have the energy to look for clues, only wanting to catch their breath.
Jing Xiaoyan held Jiang Yumian’s hand tightly, pulling her to sit on the bed, slowly calming herself down.
She was still holding Jiang Xiaomian’s diary in her other hand. She lowered her head, her fingertips gently rubbing the edge of the diary.
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Yumian pulled her hand.
If she hadn’t felt the sweat in her palm, she would have thought Jing Xiaoyan wasn’t scared.
Jing Xiaoyan was stunned for a moment, shook her head, and gently placed the diary on Jiang Xiaomian’s bedside, returning it to Jiang Xiaomian.
Seeing Jiang Yumian still looking at her, Jing Xiaoyan pursed her lips. “I’m fine. I see that there was more content in the diary, but it’s all torn out. Only this much is left. I estimate the torn parts were from the following three years.”
Lin Xi also walked over and sat down on the bed, her eyes full of lingering fear. “What do you think is going on with those two people? Where did they come from?”
Su Mumu rummaged through the desk, casually saying, “And the Big Joker hasn’t appeared yet.”
As soon as she spoke, she saw two poker cards on the desk, turned and handed them to Jiang Yumian. “Are these the two Big and Little Jokers you were missing?”
She turned the backs of the cards to show them the design.
Jiang Yumian nodded. “Yes, they’re the same. They’re actually here.”
She handed the cards to Jing Xiaoyan. Jing Xiaoyan only glanced at them, shook her head, and didn’t take them, remaining unusually silent.
Jiang Yumian paused, withdrew her hand, and gave the cards to Lin Xi.
She pondered for a few seconds, her gaze resting on the diary Jing Xiaoyan had brought over. She felt like she had missed something.
“Sister, there are raincoats in this wardrobe, eight in total. What are these for?” Xie Yunhuan took out the raincoats inside. Soon, a pile of crumpled papers scattered from the wardrobe.
Chu Qianyuan and Luo Cheng took the raincoats from him, looking down at Xie Yunhuan picking up the papers on the floor.
“What’s written inside?” Luo Cheng saw him frowning as he read and was curious.
Their commotion drew the others to look as well.
Xie Yunhuan pursed his lips and didn’t speak. He handed the crumpled papers in his hand to Luo Cheng, then sat on the floor, persistently unfolding them one by one. Finally, he gave up. “Not a single one is a nice word.”
They all took a few papers to look at. They were all insults, curses, and mockery—not a single kind word.
“It must be after the college entrance exam. This one says they were accepted to the same university and suggests the school reject her.” Jiang Yumian quietly exhaled and unfolded another one. “This one is cursing them for being shameless and mentally unstable.”
Jing Xiaoyan held her hand, not letting her look anymore.
They roughly understood the theme now. No matter how many more they unfolded, they would only see sarcastic words. Although reality wasn’t this malicious, it wasn’t non-existent either.
The production crew must have gathered all the nasty words and prepared them specifically.
Chu Qianyuan’s eyes darkened. She threw the paper in her hand away and said in a low voice, “Don’t look anymore. Let’s study the raincoats.”
“These should be for us to wear. Everyone take one first.”
Lin Xi looked at the transparent raincoat in her hand, then looked at the wardrobe, confused. “Why are these raincoats and papers together?”
“I don’t know.” Xie Yunhuan responded casually. As long as he wasn’t scared, it was fine.
He opened the raincoat and put it on. It fit quite well.
Before they could finish examining them, the room curtains suddenly moved and opened, startling everyone into looking over.
They thought it was only for decoration and wouldn’t have a real window. But when the curtains opened, they found it was a glass wall.
Lights suddenly turned on inside, and the person wearing the pure white mask suddenly appeared, giving them a big scare.
“Oh my god!” Chu Qianyuan clung to Su Mumu within a second. “What’s going on!”
Soon, another person appeared inside, the gray clown. She was separated from the masked person by a door.
Jiang Yumian pursed her lips. This masked person and the clown didn’t seem to see them. They were performing silently inside.
The masked person took off her hood. Seeing her long hair, she must be a girl. She was frantically pounding on the door.
Jing Xiaoyan looked at the clown and the masked person inside. So, the one knocking on their door today must have been the masked person, but why was the clown following her?
The door inside opened. The masked person pointed at the clown, who lowered her head, tightly gripping the hem of her clothes, looking helpless. The masked person kept pointing at her, looking very angry, constantly scolding the clown.
The clown trembled from the scolding, looking very afraid.
Finally, the masked person suddenly covered her face, her shoulders shaking. She appeared to be crying, very sad.
The silent atmosphere was broken by Jing Xiaoyan. She said in a deep voice, “The gray clown must be Jiang Xiaomian.”
Lin Xi’s eyes widened. She turned to Jiang Yumian, pointing at her. “Are you kidding me?”
Jiang Yumian’s eyes remained fixed on the inside. She casually explained, “Our roles are gone since we arrived. I’m not Jiang Xiaomian.”
Then she pointed at the masked person inside. “That must be her mother.”
Su Mumu was holding a piece of paper torn from the diary. She had just found it in a book, but the curtains opened before she could read it.
Her throat tightened. She looked up at Jing Xiaoyan and Jiang Yumian. If their analysis was correct, then…
“Is Jiang Xiaomian already dead?”
Su Mumu’s sudden remark made Chu Qianyuan shrink her neck. Her gaze moved from the weeping masked person to Su Mumu’s hand. “Why do you say that?”
Su Mumu handed the paper in her hand to her, briefly explaining, “This piece was carefully preserved by Jiang Xiaomian in a book. It mentions a physics competition she attended with her sister. They were the most formidable duo, Big and Little Jokers, and won first place together.”
Jing Xiaoyan sighed softly. “If Jiang Xiaomian is the Little Joker, then that means I’m the Big Joker.”
Chu Qianyuan opened her mouth. “But didn’t you die…”
Su Mumu pursed her lips. “That’s why I said Jiang Xiaomian is also dead.”
Jiang Yumian reached for the diary from earlier, flipped to the page Jing Xiaoyan had been looking at, and looked closely. The words “Big and Little Jokers” were written with great force. Only then did she understand what Jing Xiaoyan had been looking at.
Jing Xiaoyan saw her put the diary back and smiled, explaining, “Big Joker and Little Joker are also called Ghost Cards. So if I’m the Big Joker, then Jiang Xiaomian should be the Little Joker, so…”
“That’s just your guess. It doesn’t necessarily mean she’s dead.”
Jiang Yumian interrupted her. No wonder she felt Jing Xiaoyan was depressed just now. She thought it was an illusion, but it was real.
Her palm was suddenly squeezed by Jiang Yumian. Jing Xiaoyan was startled and turned to look at her, her expression slightly confused.
Jiang Yumian whispered, “I’m not Jiang Xiaomian, and you’re not the sister.”
So don’t be sad.
Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes paused. The expression on her face softened slightly. She quickly smiled. She had gotten a bit too immersed, her emotions being pulled into it.
Seeing her smile, Jiang Yumian felt a little embarrassed. She quickly turned her head, pointed inside, and reminded them, “Look quickly.”
The people inside started moving again.
Everyone watched the silent performance inside intently. The two people who had made them tremble with fear were no longer scary.
The woman covering her face quickly stopped crying. She suddenly pushed Jiang Xiaomian hard, making her fall to the ground. The mother who said she loved Jiang Xiaomian the most raised her hand to hit her.
Everyone gasped in surprise. Just as the slap was about to land, a figure suddenly appeared, hugged Jiang Xiaomian, and used her back to shield her from the slap.
Lin Xi’s eyes widened slightly. “This is… the other clown…”
Everyone fell silent. It was the sister who protected Jiang Xiaomian, the role Jing Xiaoyan played yesterday. She was indeed the Big Joker.
As expected, the woman inside finally erupted, yelling at the two. The screen suddenly went black at this moment.
Jing Xiaoyan tilted her head, confused. “Is it over?”
The screen lighting up again quickly answered her. It wasn’t over yet.
Only the scene had changed. The mother seemed to be holding Jiang Xiaomian’s university admission letter. Jiang Xiaomian, who was struggling, was hugged by another masked woman, watching helplessly as her mother angrily tore up her admission letter. Finally, the two pushed her into the room and locked her up.
Su Mumu frowned. “That must be the mother and the aunt.”
The two people who said they loved Jiang Xiaomian the most.
Lin Xi pursed her lips. “Probably.”
The scene quickly shifted. The mother and aunt stood before another clown: the sister. The sister was being shoved and yelled at by them. They reached out and pulled the surrounding people in black clothes, making them point and criticize the sister. Crumpled papers suddenly appeared, hitting the sister one by one.
Everyone looked back at the same crumpled papers on their side. Their mood was extremely heavy. So, that’s what happened…
