Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: Look Up
“Dong… dong… dong!”
“Dong… dong… dong!”
The muffled knocking successfully woke up everyone in the room.
Their minds were still hazy and not quite awake, but then there was another “Dong!” This sound was especially clear. It was knocking on their room door now.
“Dong!”
“Dong!”
The knocking seemed to pound against their chests and explode near their ears. They didn’t know when the room lights had been turned off.
Jiang Yumian was startled. She pulled the blanket over her head and buried herself, not daring to move.
It was quiet outside for a few seconds. Heavy footsteps gradually moved away until they couldn’t be heard anymore. Only then did the three people in the room dare to move slightly.
Lin Xi huddled under the covers, her voice very small. “Holy cow! You scared me to death! It’s for real, huh!”
She was scared wide awake!
Jing Xiaoyan’s throat bobbed. Jiang Yumian’s head was buried in her neck, her cheek pressed tightly against her neck. She didn’t know whether to be scared or nervous, but she definitely didn’t dare to move.
Just now, Jiang Yumian had hugged her tightly.
Jiang Yumian’s scattered wits returned. Realizing who she was hugging and in what position she was hugging Jing Xiaoyan, her face flushed, and her already tense heart clenched even tighter.
Noticing Jiang Yumian’s stiffness, whether it was from fear or from realizing she had hugged her, Jing Xiaoyan quietly let out a breath. The hand resting on her back moved, gently stroking her back, and she whispered an assurance, “It’s okay, it’s okay, Mianmian, don’t be afraid.”
Hearing Jing Xiaoyan speak, Jiang Yumian’s body slowly relaxed. She nodded and followed her lead, softly murmuring “Mhm.” Both pretended to be oblivious, assuming it was all due to the fright.
She immediately sat up from Jing Xiaoyan’s body, unsure how long she had been lying on her.
Lin Xi tugged at the hem of Jing Xiaoyan’s pajamas. “Big Sister, look at me. I’m scared too.”
She shouldn’t be on the bed; she should be under the bed!
Stupid couple!
Taking advantage of Lin Xi’s comment, Jing Xiaoyan conveniently moved her body, which had been pressed for half the night, and turned to speak to Lin Xi. “They’re gone. Don’t be afraid anymore.”
Compared to her earlier tenderness, her tone now sounded casually dismissive. Jiang Yumian couldn’t help but want to laugh.
Jing Xiaoyan then lay flat again. She didn’t know what time it was. She kept her eyes open. “The lights being out was probably intentional by the production crew.”
Just as she said this, the knocking downstairs started, exceptionally clear in the quiet villa.
Jiang Yumian’s recently calmed heart started pounding again. Her voice was timid. “How is it still not over…”
Lin Xi was huddled under the covers, saying impatiently in a lowered voice, “Mianmian, didn’t you say you weren’t scared!”
Jiang Yumian shivered, on the verge of tears. “I was wrong. I’m scared too…”
She had only thought she wouldn’t be scared, or that she would be fine. Thank goodness she wasn’t sleeping alone. It was terrifying!
Jing Xiaoyan turned her head, reached out, and wanted to hug her, but held back. Her hand lightly rested on Jiang Yumian’s shoulder, stroking it.
Before she could open her mouth to comfort her, a scream suddenly came from downstairs.
“Ah!”
Based on the voice, it sounded like Xie Yunhuan’s…
Immediately followed by a “bang,” the door was slammed shut by his fright.
Lin Xi was startled. “That kid didn’t actually open the door, did he…”
The knocking downstairs quickly became frantic and aggressive.
“Dong dong dong!”
“Dong dong dong!”
Perhaps provoked by the earlier action, the knocking sounded like it was trying to smash the door down.
The commotion downstairs quickly subsided. With that one scream from Xie Yunhuan, presumably everyone in the villa heard it.
“It should be over now, right…” Jiang Yumian, who didn’t know when she grabbed Jing Xiaoyan’s arm, turned to face her. She was completely spooked.
Jing Xiaoyan tightened her throat. Just as she was about to say it should be over, a “deng… deng… deng…” sound echoed through the villa. The person knocking was coming upstairs.
Jiang Yumian silently pulled the blanket over her head. Her back, facing the door, felt a chill.
“Look up.”
Jing Xiaoyan’s voice abruptly rang out above her. Jiang Yumian was momentarily stunned. She looked up, and quickly, a hand slipped under her neck, and then she was embraced.
Lin Xi: “…”
Lin Xi couldn’t see, but she knew Jing Xiaoyan had turned away from her. She felt the two of them hugging.
She punched Jing Xiaoyan’s back, not too hard, not too soft. You dog! Prioritizing romance over friendship!
Stupid couple! Stupid couple!
Jing Xiaoyan silently endured the punch, holding the person in her arms tightly.
The footsteps outside grew closer. Her heart was pounding. She was scared, and even amidst the fear, she fleetingly thought about how this damned environment offered no romantic atmosphere even while hugging. All those things written in screenplays were lies!
She actually thought watching horror movies or something could foster feelings. Lies, lies. With her heart racing, she had no mind for such thoughts!
Jiang Yumian closed her eyes. Jing Xiaoyan’s embrace was reassuring.
This time, the knocking outside the door became heavier. Unlike the last time, the person outside started shouting curses, their tone extremely vicious, demanding to open the door. They were likely using a voice changer, as the voice was indistinguishable.
Thinking he couldn’t get in anyway, Lin Xi grew more irritated the more she listened. She bravely yelled out, “Get lost, you old bastard! Open your grandpa’s door!”
The staff member outside was momentarily stunned. Didn’t they say Jing Xiaoyan was inside? Why did that voice sound like Lin Xi’s?
The director specifically told him to knock on Jing Xiaoyan’s door a few extra times to scare her. It seemed she wasn’t scared.
After Lin Xi shouted, the outside suddenly went quiet. She held her ground for only a second, then her heart panicked again, and she quickly retreated under the covers.
After another few minutes, the room lights suddenly turned back on.
The production crew’s prank was probably over.
Jing Xiaoyan frowned, adjusting to the light, then casually released her hands. However, the other hand was still being used as a pillow by Jiang Yumian. She steeled her heart and pulled her hand out. This movement inevitably made Jiang Yumian, who just opened her eyes, feel a little uncomfortable.
Lin Xi blinked, sat up, looked at Jing Xiaoyan who just lay flat, and instinctively kicked her without a second thought.
You dog! Sweetly hugging your wife! How lucky she is!
Jiang Yumian raised her hand to shield her eyes, not noticing Lin Xi’s action. Her voice was small. She asked, “What time is it now?”
They didn’t have phones, but every room had a clock.
Jing Xiaoyan squinted at it and said softly, “Six-thirty in the morning.”
Jiang Yumian rubbed her eyes and also sat up. “It’s a good thing it wasn’t the middle of the night. Otherwise, we wouldn’t dare to sleep later.”
After that, she mumbled softly, “Good thing I was mentally prepared. The director really has no good intentions.”
Jing Xiaoyan reached out and patted her back reassuringly, her voice gentle and pleasant. “I guess that’s all for today. They probably won’t come back.”
Lin Xi scoffed. “I’m going back first.”
She threw off the blanket and got up. She couldn’t stand being there any longer.
But as she reached the door, she didn’t even touch the doorknob before turning back.
Jiang Yumian was about to say she was going back too, but seeing Lin Xi turn back, she was a little confused. “What’s wrong?”
Lin Xi cleared her throat awkwardly, her voice lacking confidence. “I, I’ll wait until dawn to leave.”
She still didn’t quite dare to go out yet.
Lin Xi walked to the edge of the bed and sat down, then flopped backward. Her heart had been pounding all morning. It was terrifying.
Jing Xiaoyan rubbed her face, threw off the blanket, and got up. “I’ll pull the curtains open. It should be light outside.”
It was indeed morning, but the light was not yet strong enough to penetrate the curtains. Jing Xiaoyan pulled the curtains open. The view was broad, and she felt much calmer.
She looked down and saw several staff members already setting up equipment downstairs.
She sighed. So early. Why so early? Just to scare them.
When she turned around, her gaze unintentionally met Jiang Yumian’s eyes, which were watching her. Her heart momentarily skipped a beat. Her body subconsciously froze. Jiang Yumian was looking at her.
Jiang Yumian turned her head and casually ran her fingers through her hair a few times. She had a lot on her mind and didn’t dare to look at Jing Xiaoyan.
Jing Xiaoyan raised an eyebrow. Pretending nothing happened, she walked to Lin Xi and lightly kicked her.
“Hurry up and get ready. There are plenty of disposable toiletries in the room. You can go back after you’ve washed up.”
She figured they probably wouldn’t dare to go back alone to wash up at this hour. After all, if they left, she thought to herself, she wouldn’t dare either.
Three cowards…
After washing up, it was fully daylight outside. Jiang Yumian and Lin Xi bravely opened the door and tentatively looked out. It was bright and not scary at all outside.
Jing Xiaoyan came out wearing the clothes the production crew prepared. Jiang Yumian and Lin Xi had also changed. The three of them had no intention of going back to sleep. They weren’t sleepy at all, and the others were probably awake too.
Jiang Yumian and Lin Xi knocked on Luo Cheng’s door and called out twice. Only then did the door open. Luo Cheng hadn’t washed up yet, and her small face was pale.
“Were you guys scared? I was almost scared to death.” Luo Cheng rolled her eyes at the unactivated camera. “Scaring people first thing in the morning.”
Jiang Yumian nodded. “It was indeed scary, but I was fine. The three of us slept together.”
Lin Xi pouted. Of course you were fine. You were hugging Jing Xiaoyan. You two were clinging to each other.
Bah! Stupid couple!
Luo Cheng blinked. “The three of you?”
Jiang Yumian nodded. “Yes. Jing Xiaoyan went downstairs. She went to call Mumu and the others.”
Luo Cheng twitched her mouth. “Fine! I don’t care. You’re sleeping with me tonight. The three of you abandoned me and left me shivering in the room. Don’t you feel guilty…”
Lin Xi blinked and said directly, “Luo Chengcheng, you’re with me. I’m never sharing a room with Jing Xiaoyan again!”
She bet on the wrong person yesterday. All three of them were cowards!
Hearing Lin Xi’s complaint, Jiang Yumian subconsciously raised her hand and touched her neck, feeling a little guilty. Jing Xiaoyan liked her, so her attention was probably all on her at the time, and Lin Xi… was probably completely ignored by her.
She secretly glanced at Lin Xi. Did she realize what happened when she said that?
Luo Cheng quickly agreed. “Then it’s settled. I’m going to wash up and change now.”
The group changed clothes, put on makeup, and were led to the dining table by the staff to eat breakfast.
Jiang Yumian looked at Xie Yunhuan several times, and finally couldn’t hold back. “Good sister, did you open the door?”
Good sister?
Xie Yunhuan, with a dough stick in his mouth, blinked, looked left and right, and finally asked with some uncertainty, “Sister? Me?”
Jiang Yumian nodded. “Mhm, mhm. Good sister, I’m asking you.”
That loud scream made it hard not to recognize it was him.
Although he didn’t know when he became her “sister,” Xie Yunhuan didn’t refute it. Seeing everyone looking at him, he scratched his head. “We thought it was the staff, so I got up and went to open the door. As soon as I opened it, a person wearing a pure white mask was right in my face. There was a gray clown behind him. It scared me to death!”
He patted his chest, still shaken.
Ling Yisong nodded along. “I saw it too, but I was inside the room. I wasn’t as miserable as him.”
He was hit right in the face. It was truly terrifying.
Chu Qianyuan leaned tightly against Su Mumu, startled. “Two people?”
She thought it was only one. It scared them to death. Thank goodness her Mumu was smart and didn’t let her open the door.
Su Mumu raised her hand and patted her. “It’s okay.”
Lin Xi blinked, catching the key point. “A gray clown?”
Xie Yunhuan nodded forcefully. “Yes, two people. Although it wasn’t light outside at the time, I could still see clearly. It was a gray clown. I’m sure of it!”
Although he was scared, he clearly saw that. The clown was different from the usual ones. It wasn’t hard for him to notice.
Jing Xiaoyan raised her head, exchanged glances with Jiang Yumian, and they both said in unison, “Little Joker…”
Lin Xi’s hand trembled. She swallowed. “Then, what about Big Joker?”
