Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 119
Chapter 119: Do Me a Favor
Jiang Yumian was staring at her manicured fingers, not daring to express her anger about Jing Xiaoyan carrying nail clippers with her.
She was distractedly led out of the car, her fingertips touching her already clipped nails, feeling a little disheartened.
Just a couple of days ago, she was thinking about secretly getting a manicure to annoy Jing Xiaoyan when she came back.
She wasn’t really just intending to lie down. She simply didn’t want Jing Xiaoyan to have her way.
Besides, after lying down so many times, she thought being a “pillow princess” was actually quite nice. Jing Xiaoyan’s stamina was pretty good; it was just that her mind was a bit erratic and sometimes mischievous.
Before she finished grumbling internally, they entered the elevator. Jiang Yumian quickly put on her authoritative demeanor, her face stern. However, the aura she had just summoned was immediately overshadowed by the person next to her.
Jiang Yumian slightly widened her eyes at Jing Xiaoyan. This refined and indifferent look, more like a CEO than her own, her gaze instantly outshone hers.
Their eyes met, and she quickly noticed the provocation in Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes. Jiang Yumian gritted her teeth. Was having good acting skills that amazing!
It truly was amazing. At the very least, when the elevator doors opened, Jing Xiaoyan was more composed than Jiang Yumian. She smoothly pulled Jiang Yumian, who was still staring at her face, and said casually, “We’re here. Everyone is watching.”
Jiang Yumian retracted her gaze and quickly recovered. Although her acting wasn’t as good as Jing Xiaoyan’s, she didn’t need to act. Those people had a filter for her. Just standing there, no one would dare say anything about her.
Jing Xiaoyan led her inside. Many gazes simultaneously shot toward them. She blinked with a poker face. Although her cold expression hadn’t changed, her internal thoughts were particularly active.
The banquet hall was filled with the clinking of glasses, extravagantly decorated. Desserts and wine glasses covered the tables. She sighed silently in her heart.
Jiang Yumian was overthinking things. Her expression wasn’t feigned; she genuinely disliked such occasions.
Noticing the people eager to surround them, Jiang Yumian grabbed Jing Xiaoyan’s hand. “Just find a place to sit and watch me.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, two figures approached with wine glasses. Jing Xiaoyan pretended not to see them and nodded slightly. “Mhm, no drinking.” Her tone was undeniable.
Jiang Yumian was stunned for a moment. Why was she so serious? And so fierce.
Jing Xiaoyan left without any hesitation after she spoke.
Jiang Yumian slowly blinked, somehow finding her departing back rather dashing.
The two women with wine glasses also heard Jing Xiaoyan’s words, but they didn’t take it seriously. After Jing Xiaoyan had walked a couple of steps away, they smiled and offered the wine glasses in their hands to Jiang Yumian.
“Long time no see. I wonder if CEO Jiang remembers me.”
The one in the pink dress on the right spoke. Jiang Yumian looked at her face for two seconds, recognizing who she was. She had seen her at a previous banquet, but she didn’t remember her name. Anyone whose name she couldn’t recall was likely someone who hadn’t achieved much or was an idle rich second generation.
Jiang Yumian nodded politely, not saying she didn’t know her name. She lowered her gaze, her eyes resting on the wine glass for two seconds, then turned to look at Jing Xiaoyan, who was watching her, instantly understanding the intention behind her actions.
How mean…
Jiang Yumian retracted her gaze and immediately shook her head, forcing a polite smile to refuse. “Sorry, I can’t drink.”
The girl holding the wine glass, who had observed Jiang Yumian’s movement of retracting her gaze, withdrew her hand and looked toward Jing Xiaoyan, but the other party didn’t look at her at all.
She didn’t embarrass herself further. The person standing next to her, however, spoke up. “CEO Jiang, please do me the honor of having a drink.”
Jiang Yumian hadn’t seen this person before. She shook her head. “No drinking.”
After saying that, she glanced toward Jing Xiaoyan again, practically broadcasting “My wife won’t let me drink with you” on her face.
More people were approaching. Their conversation clearly reached the ears of those around them. The two women who were rebuffed quickly left.
Jiang Yumian chatted with a few other people, refusing all the wine they offered. This persona was initially established. Jing Xiaoyan was very satisfied with Jiang Yumian’s performance.
Yin Xiangyu arrived relatively late. The moment she entered, she saw Jiang Yumian. There was no helping it, because there were a lot of people around her, and she was surrounded in the middle of the crowd, talking to the high-profile Cui Kun about something.
Yin Xiangyu didn’t intend to go over. She scanned the room again and sure enough, saw Jing Xiaoyan sitting alone in a spot no one dared to approach.
Jing Xiaoyan was meticulously paying attention to Jiang Yumian’s side, her face currently sullen. Those people had somehow found juice and poured it into high-stemmed glasses. How clever.
Especially hearing Cui Kun openly and secretly trying to flirt with Jiang Yumian, Jing Xiaoyan’s face turned dark. Did these people really think she wasn’t here!
She was so angry that she didn’t notice the person approaching until Yin Xiangyu walked up to her before she realized she was there.
“You can still sit there?” Yin Xiangyu hadn’t even sat down yet when she started to tease her.
Jing Xiaoyan stood up with a stern face. “I can’t sit still.”
She dropped this sentence and walked toward Jiang Yumian.
Yin Xiangyu shook her head and chuckled. It seemed she really couldn’t sit still. Normally, Jing Xiaoyan would have retorted to her a couple of times by now.
Jiang Yumian stared at the juice in the glass, her ears polluted by the constant chatter. She was very annoyed.
Cui Kun stood beside her, self-importantly commenting on the incident where Jiang Yumian was trending on the hot search. “That stalker who entered your room is truly despicable, but I believe CEO Jiang was certainly not violated by him.”
“People online are just talking nonsense. Don’t take it to heart, CEO Jiang. Even if something like that really happened, I would still like you just the same.”
Jiang Yumian frowned slightly. Her gaze moved away from the high-stemmed glass, and she looked up at him. “What did you just say? I was thinking about something and didn’t hear clearly.”
A hint of awkwardness flashed across Cui Kun’s face. “I was asking if I could have a chance to pursue you.”
Jiang Yumian was momentarily stunned. “Uh… what’s your name?”
The people around couldn’t help but laugh out loud, then forcibly held it back. Jing Xiaoyan, standing behind a few people, stopped her movement of trying to squeeze in. She raised an eyebrow, not in a hurry to go in anymore.
Cui Kun gritted his back teeth, looking at Jiang Yumian in disbelief. Was she deliberately pretending not to recognize him or did she genuinely not know him?
Did his two flower deliveries and his concern for her when she was being smeared online have no effect at all?
He tried hard to maintain his expression. “Cui Kun. Don’t you remember me, Mianmian?”
Jiang Yumian suppressed the urge to gag and nodded awkwardly. “I have a slight impression of the name, but I haven’t seen you. Sorry.”
Cui Kun coughed particularly awkwardly, stiffly changing the subject. “You were spacing out while looking at the high-stemmed glass. What were you thinking about?”
Following his words, Jiang Yumian’s gaze turned to the glass, and she quickly looked troubled. “Nothing much. I still won’t drink the juice you brought over. I’m afraid I won’t be able to explain myself later if I drink it.” She deliberately paused for two seconds after saying that, lifted her eyelids to observe the expression on Cui Kun’s face. Noticing his nervousness, she sneered internally and continued, “My fiancée won’t let me drink. I’m afraid she’ll think it’s alcohol, and I’ll be done for if I drink it.”
Cui Kun sighed in relief. As long as she wasn’t suspecting him of drugging it. But soon, his breath caught in his chest. Fiancée?
Was it Jing Xiaoyan?
Jiang Yumian talked about her fiancée in front of so many people? Was she serious?
Realizing Jiang Yumian’s attitude, Cui Kun felt terrible. He had always thought she was just playing around.
The others around were equally surprised. They knew Jiang Yumian liked women, but they didn’t know a partner had already been decided. They all thought she was just playing around too.
However, a small number of people found it normal. After all, the entertainment company was given to Jing Xiaoyan; what else couldn’t the Jiang family do.
The focus of attention quickly shifted to Jing Xiaoyan, who hadn’t done anything but had a strong presence all along.
Everyone then realized she was already standing nearby.
They weren’t only paying attention to Jiang Yumian from the beginning; they were also paying attention to Jing Xiaoyan, but her expression was too cold, as if someone owed her a life. So, in just about ten minutes, besides Yin Xiangyu, no one really dared to approach her. After all, she was a big boss now, not that easy to mess with.
And judging by Jiang Yumian’s attitude, it seemed they had approached the wrong person just now. They should have sought out Jing Xiaoyan instead. Having a good relationship with Jing Xiaoyan was better than having one with Jiang Yumian. Jiang Yumian seemed quite obedient.
Jing Xiaoyan met everyone’s gaze, her scalp tingling, and walked to Jiang Yumian’s side, claiming the identity of fiancée with her actions.
She didn’t want to be the center of attention, but seeing Yin Xiangyu smiling at them from not far away, and this presumptuous man in front of her, she quickly stood firmly beside Jiang Yumian, reached out and took the wine glass from her hand, lowered her head and took a sip. It was indeed juice, but unfortunately, it was mango-flavored.
Jing Xiaoyan slightly frowned. The words she had been about to say, agreeing to let her drink, were forcefully stopped.
Their eyes met with Jiang Yumian’s. Seeing her look of understanding, she probably smelled it long ago. Jing Xiaoyan was relieved. It was good that she hadn’t drunk it.
Aside from Su Mumu and Chu Qianyuan, only family members knew about Jiang Yumian’s mango allergy. This cup of mango juice was likely a coincidence.
Everyone watched her drink it, ready for Jing Xiaoyan to start showing off her family status. They were waiting to hear her agree to let Jiang Yumian drink the juice.
Jing Xiaoyan didn’t want outsiders to know about Jiang Yumian’s mango allergy. She sighed silently in her heart, and could only say domineeringly, “It’s awful. You’re not allowed to drink it.”
The refusal was unexpected to everyone. Everyone suddenly realized that she wasn’t trying to show off at all. Judging by her attitude, she disdained showing off.
Jing Xiaoyan’s words were utterly unsparing. After saying that, she picked up the glass and left, leaving Jiang Yumian standing there being watched by others with sympathetic gazes.
Seeing Jiang Yumian’s look of silent anger, everyone internally sighed with emotion. It turned out that even the wealthiest and most powerful people had to obediently listen to their wives at home.
Seeing this, everyone else felt much more balanced.
Her face was completely lost, and Jiang Yumian was numb.
Her gaze toward Jing Xiaoyan was filled with intense resentment. Was there anything Jing Xiaoyan couldn’t do…
Jing Xiaoyan left with a helpless expression, her eyes innocent. She sighed and sat down.
She wasn’t that domineering. She didn’t want to be like this either.
She really didn’t want to be like this…
Blame it on Jiang Yumian’s mango allergy!
Seeing Jing Xiaoyan approach with a glass of juice, Yin Xiangyu took a sip of the red wine in her glass and couldn’t help but comment, “She really listens to you.”
Jing Xiaoyan turned to look at her, not engaging with her comment, secretly feeling smug. She deliberately asked, “Why did you come too? And why are you sitting here instead of chatting and drinking with others?”
Yin Xiangyu found Jing Xiaoyan’s rhetorical question annoying, but she was more or less used to her attitude toward her.
She was just a little annoyed. What exactly made her lose to Jing Xiaoyan? Was it just because she wasn’t as thick-skinned as her?
Yin Xiangyu thought for a few seconds, but she didn’t ignore Jing Xiaoyan. With the intention of deliberately teasing her, she elegantly placed the wine glass on the table, raised her eyebrows, and smiled at Jing Xiaoyan, her tone when answering the question was flirtatious. “What can I do sitting here? I’ve taken a fancy to you.”
As soon as the words came out, Jing Xiaoyan’s expression instantly cracked. This didn’t sound like something Yin Xiangyu would say. She felt an eerie chill listening to it.
She steadied herself, but she didn’t take Yin Xiangyu’s words seriously. After all, it was clearly a joke.
Jing Xiaoyan glanced at her, not letting herself be outdone, and said narcissistically, “I have to say, your taste is pretty good.”
Yin Xiangyu lowered her eyes, a clear smile on her lips. She didn’t continue the banter with her. Her gaze lingered on the mango juice Jing Xiaoyan brought over for two seconds, and she nodded slightly, asking, “Aren’t you afraid it has a problem, drinking it so boldly?”
Jing Xiaoyan shook her head, her tone confident. “I just took a sip. And only an idiot would give Mianmian a tainted drink in front of so many people.”
Outside every elevator on this floor, there were their bodyguards. The restroom on this floor also had bodyguards guarding it. The safety index was particularly high.
Yin Xiangyu knew all this. After all, it was hired with her money by the couple. They hired quite a few, afraid they hadn’t spent enough.
Although their vigilance was strong, Yin Xiangyu was still somewhat dissatisfied with Jing Xiaoyan’s careless action. She lightly sighed. “What if there really is an idiot?”
Hearing her hypothesis, Jing Xiaoyan’s thoughts paused slightly, and she quickly said, “If there really is a problem, then I should be thankful Mianmian didn’t drink it.”
She added, “I’ll just consider it bad luck. Even if something happens to me, I’m not afraid with Mianmian here. She’ll take good care of me.”
Yin Xiangyu’s mouth twitched. Her worry was indeed unnecessary. These two people would check each other every minute to see if the other was alright. Their eyes were so glued together, they were practically stuck. What could possibly go wrong?
Jing Xiaoyan picked up the mango juice in front of her and disdainfully poured it into a small glass container specially designated for leftover wine.
Her verbal disgust was also very obvious. “And this juice really is awful.”
Yin Xiangyu raised an eyebrow. “Mhm. This cup is definitely fine, but the initial cup of wine was spiked.”
Surprise flashed in Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes. Her gaze instinctively searched for Jiang Yumian. She only relaxed after seeing her standing well.
She frowned slightly at Yin Xiangyu, lowering her voice and asking in a deep tone, “What do you mean?”
Yin Xiangyu also withdrew her gaze and briefly explained the situation to Jing Xiaoyan. The first two girls were instigated by Cui Kun’s side to probe the situation. The wine in their hands was spiked, but Jiang Yumian refused to take it because she was so obedient to Jing Xiaoyan.
“How do you know?” Jing Xiaoyan frowned deeply. Remembering what Jiang Yumian told her in the car, she quickly asked again, “Did Mianmian know too?”
Yin Xiangyu nodded. “She knew. I told her before you arrived.”
Without Jing Xiaoyan asking, she continued to explain. “Yin Youbing told me. Maybe she had a change of heart, but she didn’t stop the person she instigated from doing this. She just left it to chance, seeing if I could remind you in time.”
The relief in Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes was mixed with a hint of anger. Although she knew Yin Xiangyu hadn’t done anything, being implicated was still very annoying.
“CEO Yin can’t even manage her own sister, yet she’s thinking of pursuing Mianmian. Is she planning on dragging her into your family’s pit of fire?”
Jing Xiaoyan retaliated when she was unhappy. She also felt her retort was justified. Jiang Yumian was already so badly implicated without even being with Yin Xiangyu. If they were together, wouldn’t it be even worse?
Yin Xiangyu’s eyes paused. She didn’t shirk responsibility by saying she wasn’t close to Yin Youbing. She slightly nodded. “It was indeed my carelessness. At the time, I only wanted to seize the opportunity to pursue the person I like.”
Jing Xiaoyan took a deep breath. After calming her emotions, she glanced at Jiang Yumian again. Thinking that she knew everything, she was so angry her teeth hurt. How could she not tell her!
She turned her head, glancing at Yin Xiangyu again.
She suddenly spoke. “Do me a favor.”
Yin Xiangyu was slightly stunned. It took her a few seconds to confirm she hadn’t misheard. Jing Xiaoyan was actually asking her for a favor?
She asked curiously, “What is it?”
Jing Xiaoyan asked, “They took this cup of juice on the fly. Mianmian probably doesn’t know if it has a problem.”
Yin Xiangyu’s heart skipped a beat. “So…?”
Jing Xiaoyan wasn’t going to ask her to help deceive Jiang Yumian that the juice had a problem, was she?
Her guess was surprisingly accurate. Jing Xiaoyan was a true performer. She quickly raised her hand to her forehead, standing up with a tired expression, her body swaying unsteadily. Yin Xiangyu instinctively stood up, wanting to support her.
Jing Xiaoyan’s lips trembled, her tone much weaker. “I’m not feeling very well, Miss Yin. Could you please tell her for me that I’m going back first?”
Yin Xiangyu was dumbfounded.
She was truly shameless!
