Chapter 70: The Tenth Day of Being a Stingy (Frugal) CEO
Chu Qi was eager to get home. The moment the clock struck five, she stood up and almost sprinted toward the elevators.
Wen Qingyun, preferring to avoid the rush, usually left five minutes early and waited for Chu Qi in the car. Chu Qi managed to catch the first elevator, staring at the floor indicator and counting down in her mind: 3, 2, 1—doors open.
She ran out, her heart hammering against her ribs. When she saw Wen Qingyun standing by the car, her heart skipped another beat.
“Qingyun~” Chu Qi beamed, throwing her arms around Wen Qingyun.
Wen Qingyun hadn’t expected such passion and had to take a half-step back to absorb the momentum. “What’s wrong?” she asked, her cool brows furrowing slightly.
“Nothing, I just wanted to tell you that being with you makes me so happy,” Chu Qi giggled foolishly. Thinking about her “official status,” she let go of Wen Qingyun’s waist, cupped her face, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed her.
Wen Qingyun didn’t pull away, though a flash of helpless resignation crossed her eyes. By the fifth kiss, she covered Chu Qi’s mouth. “I’m hungry. Let’s go home and cook,” she said with a straight face.
“Mmph, mmph-mmph!” (Okay, let’s go home!)
To celebrate their first day as an official couple, Chu Qi detoured to the largest supermarket nearby for a shopping spree.
“How about a King Crab?” Chu Qi asked, her voice more excitable than usual.
“Are you sure you can handle that?” Wen Qingyun glanced at the price—388 yuan per 500g. A single crab would easily cost four digits.
“I can. Tomorrow is Saturday; dinner can be thirty minutes late.” Chu Qi was confident. “I’ll make it two ways. It’s delicious.”
“Pick a big one then; let Yuanbao have a taste too,” Wen Qingyun agreed. After all, it wasn’t her money.
The final bill for the crab and high-quality shrimp came to over 2,500 yuan. Wen Qingyun’s eyelid twitched at the price tag—that was a lot of beef.
That night, after a decadent dinner and playing with Yuanbao, the bedroom door was locked for some “sincere and deep communication.” The magic words “no work tomorrow” kept them awake until 3:30 AM.

Trouble at Hongyi Electronics
While Tread Snow Technology’s stock rose by 5% following their successful product launch, the atmosphere at Hongyi Electronics was suffocating.
Fu Hong sat in his office, chain-smoking as he glared at his two disappointing sons. “I asked you to innovate, not to add some gaudy trim to old products and jack up the price! Look at this month’s revenue!”
He turned to Fu Huan. “What happened to the ‘superior technology’ in your pitch?”
“I told the R&D department, but they performed poorly…” Fu Huan gritted his teeth, shifting the blame. He couldn’t lose face in front of his rival brother, Fu Han.
Fu Han seized the opportunity. “Dad, it was a decision-making error. I’ll arrange a live-stream tomorrow to apologize to the customers and lower the prices. We’ll offer refunds or price-difference compensation.”
Fu Hong’s expression softened slightly. At least one son had a sense of the bigger picture.
Suddenly, the Chairman’s assistant entered, looking grim. “Tread Snow is here. They claim we’ve breached our brand-image maintenance contract and are demanding compensation. Our recent bad press is affecting their image because we use their logo on our displays.”
Tread Snow was demanding a 15% payout of the total contract value.
“15%? This is highway robbery!” Fu Huan shouted. “Is Chu Qi doing this because I fired her?”
Fu Hong looked at his son with pure exhaustion. “Pay 15%. Transfer the money to Tread Snow immediately.”
…
The “Biological Parents” Trap
Outside the office, Fu Han mocked Fu Huan’s failure. Fu Huan, fuming, stormed back to his office only to be met by his new assistant.
“President Fu, there are two people at the front desk claiming to be Chu Qi’s biological parents. They’re refusing to leave the VIP room until we hand her over.”
Fu Huan paused. He recalled Chu Qi’s file—she was an orphan. If these people were real, why weren’t they with the police? And why show up now?
“Where are they?” Fu Huan asked, a malicious smile spreading across his face. If that “ungrateful wolf” Chu Qi was going to backstab him at Tread Snow, he had no reason to be a nice guy.
…
The Confrontation at Tread Snow
On Friday afternoon, just five minutes before off-work, Xiao Liu rushed into Chu Qi’s office without knocking.
“Sister Chu! The front desk called. Two people claiming to be your biological parents are causing a scene at the entrance, and they’ve brought three live-streaming ‘citizen journalists’ with them.”
Chu Qi froze. “My what?”
She looked at the photos sent by HR. The two strangers were completely unfamiliar. “I don’t know them. Call the police immediately.”
Within five minutes, the police arrived at Tread Snow’s headquarters. The “parents” were loud and dramatic, but the police moved swiftly, hauling the entire group—including the live-streamers—to the station.
Wen Qingyun immediately went to Chu Qi’s office.
“I’ve lived this long without hearing a peep about my birth parents. Do you think a competitor hired them?” Chu Qi laughed, but her eyes were filled with uncertainty.
“Don’t worry,” Wen Qingyun said, giving her a reassuring hug. “I’m here. I’ve already blocked any false content on the short-video platforms. Let’s go to the station.”
…
At the Police Station
“I’m not a troublemaker! I’m Chu Qi’s father! We’ll do a DNA test!” a man’s voice roared from the mediation room.
Wen Qingyun and Chu Qi entered. A woman immediately wailed and tried to lung at Chu Qi. Wen Qingyun stepped in front, her face a mask of cold steel. Her intimidating aura made the woman freeze in her tracks.
“You claim to be her parents. Where is the evidence?” Wen Qingyun asked, holding Chu Qi’s hand firmly.
“A DNA test is the evidence!” the man cried.
“I refuse that request on Chu Qi’s behalf due to a lack of preliminary proof,” Wen Qingyun stated coldly. “You showed up with live-streamers to damage our company’s reputation. I intend to sue you for defamation.”
Captain Qi, the officer in charge, looked at the files. “These two have never registered a daughter; they only have a son and even claimed ‘Only Child’ subsidies from the state. If you suddenly have a daughter now, you’re admitting to defrauding the government.”
The “mother” began to sniffle. “I… back then, she looked so sickly. The doctor said she might not live. Then she just went missing… we thought God took her back.”
“How did you find her?” Captain Qi asked.
“We went to the orphanage, then the school… eventually we went to Hongyi Electronics. A manager there told us she works at Tread Snow now. He even arranged for people to help us find her so we could ‘reunite’.”
Chu Qi’s eyes narrowed. She didn’t need a DNA test to know who was behind this. The “manager” was undoubtedly Fu Huan. With Hongyi facing a crisis, he was trying to ruin her by painting her as an unfilial daughter.
