Chapter 21: The Villain’s First Day of Complaining to Her Parents~
Mother Wen was an only child, raised with an elite education from birth and groomed as the sole heir to the family legacy.
During her six years of studying abroad, not only did she not spend a single penny of family money, but she also co-founded an investment firm with classmates. Relying on her brilliant talent, she managed to rake in a fortune in foreign exchange during a financial crisis before returning home.
Upon taking over the family business, she caught the wave of the domestic economic boom. Under policy support, she expanded the already massive family enterprise by twofold within ten years, receiving multiple government commendations along the way.
While achieving professional success, Mother Wen didn’t neglect starting a family. At the age of thirty, she hand-picked the current Father Wen—who was handsome, good-natured, and capable of acting as her assistant—from a pool of “prime candidates.”
Father Wen was the youngest son of his family. When his parents saw that Mother Wen had taken an interest in him, they packed him up and sent him to the Wen family without a word, making no additional demands.
After Wen Qingyun was born, Mother Wen didn’t abandon her career. She seized the opportunity of the country joining the WTO to expand the company globally, turning it into a top-tier multinational corporation.
Father Wen was also a business talent with an overseas degree, but in front of Mother Wen, he could only play the role of deputy and subordinate. Thanks to his wife’s support, he helped his own side of the family become well-known entrepreneurs in their hometown.
Born into such a family, Wen Qingyun could be said to have been born with a golden spoon. Not only was her food and clothing of the highest quality, but she was also the pampered little princess among her peers; no one dared to bully her.
After listening to Wen Qingyun’s embellished description of her grievances, Mother Wen remained silent and tossed a look at her husband.
Father Wen had already begun researching on his tablet the moment his daughter uttered her first complaint. Noticing his wife’s gaze, he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“Qian Tuo does not serve as a legal representative or senior executive for any company. His second uncle, Qian Youbin, is a minorly famous domestic director and currently serves as an executive for two media companies.”
“Based on corporate affiliations, Qian Youbin’s personal assets likely do not exceed 200 million yuan.”
“The largest investor for the Heartbeat Signals production team is a junior from the Zheng family. The Zheng family has a partnership with us; we can reach them with a single phone call.”
Father Wen continued, “There are quite a few ways to resolve the scandal. How we implement them depends on your preferences.”
Mother Wen nodded and turned her gaze toward her daughter. “I warned you long ago that there are few clean people in the entertainment industry. The family doesn’t lack money for you to spend; there’s no need for you to stay in that circle.”
“That’s different. I’m happier spending the money I earn myself,” Wen Qingyun said, hugging her mother’s arm. “If I can make my own money, I don’t have to worry about you cutting off my allowance.”
“Have I ever actually cut off your allowance?” Mother Wen countered. “Back then, I just gave you a warning to stop wasting money or I’d set a limit, and you threw a tantrum and ran away from home.”
“That’s not important! What’s important is that you have to help me get revenge, Mom! Get him!” Wen Qingyun quickly shifted the topic.
Let the “black history” of being a sucker and blowing over ten million at an auction four years ago fade away with time. And that childish behavior of running away from home because she lost face? The current hero would certainly never repeat such a thing, so there was no need to mention it again!
A flash of helplessness appeared in Mother Wen’s eyes. When Wen Qingyun first entered the industry, Mother Wen had her assistant report on her daughter’s situation almost every day, terrified she would be taken advantage of.
Fortunately, she had raised her daughter well—Wen Qingyun refused to suffer even an ounce of injustice. Within three months of entering the circle, she had offended everyone around her, fired her boss, and turned around to start her own studio.
Only after secretly spending money to poach the reliable Zhao Xiao (Sister Xiao) for her daughter did Mother Wen finally relax, changing the assistant’s reports from daily to two or three times a month.
“I don’t know many people in the entertainment industry. I’ll contact the Zheng family tonight and have them ‘remind’ the director of the show,” Mother Wen said.
“If the surveillance footage was manually deleted, a technician can recover it in one trip. We can then use the footage as evidence to call the police. The lawyers will send them to prison.”
“And if the cameras are actually broken?” Wen Qingyun looked at her mother expectantly.
Mother Wen gave an answer without needing to think. “Invest money into the Green Bamboo project and have them replace the assistant director.”
Wen Qingyun blinked. “Mom, the one who offended me is Qian Tuo, not his uncle Qian Youbin.”
“I know. But this will keep Qian Youbin too busy to help his nephew when he gets into trouble. Seeing his fate will also discourage anyone else from lending Qian Tuo a helping hand,” Mother Wen explained patiently.
“Dealing with Qian Tuo is simple. The director of Heartbeat Signals likely has dirt on him. If not, we find his manager or the company he’s signed to.”
“Five million is enough for his manager to give him up. Fifty million is enough for his company to treat him as a sacrificial pawn.”
Mother Wen spoke earnestly, “Money cannot solve every problem, but in the fame-and-fortune-driven entertainment circle, enough money can solve all problems.”
“When dealing with someone who tries to use you, the lesson must be harsh. Simply exposing some dirt for netizens to flame him is just an itch for someone like him. It’s best to land a fatal blow—kill the chicken to warn the monkeys.”
Wen Qingyun’s eyes lit up. “Then dig deep into his dirt! Preferably find evidence of him breaking the law so he gets banned from the industry—or better yet, goes to jail!”
“That’s not hard. Few people in the entertainment industry can withstand a thorough investigation. However, pulling up the radish brings up the mud; digging deep will inevitably involve more artists.”
Mother Wen reached out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her daughter’s ear and asked softly, “How many people do you want to send in?”
“Only Qian Tuo provoked me. Let’s just send him in for now,” Wen Qingyun thought for a moment and leaned on her mother’s shoulder. “I want to keep the related evidence; I might need it later.”
Mother Wen hummed and smoothed her daughter’s hair.
“I can handle all of this for you. But what can you do for me?” A hint of playfulness appeared in Mother Wen’s eyes. “I seem to recall someone telling me she was doing great in the industry and absolutely didn’t need my help?”
Wen Qingyun’s gaze began to wander. “That was then. Now, I need my mommy’s help~”
Mother Wen didn’t commit either way and gave a light chuckle. “What reward can you give me?”
Wen Qingyun grinned and leaned in to kiss her mother’s cheek. “I can give you the love of your precious daughter! It’s one of a kind!”
“Hmm?”
“I have about a month of vacation coming up. I can go shopping with you and go out to play!” Wen Qingyun added.
The expression on Mother Wen’s face softened. “No need to go out to play. During your month off, come to work with me. I happen to be short of a little assistant to bring me tea and water.”
“Mom, I am a graduate of a world top-3 university!” Wen Qingyun emphasized.
“I graduated from the Ivy League at eighteen,” Mother Wen said calmly. “At your age, I had already finished my PhD and appeared on the cover of Fortune magazine.”
Wen Qingyun, who hadn’t gone to grad school and hadn’t won a Best Actress award, instantly became obedient. “Okay, Mom. I’ll accompany you to work the day after tomorrow.”
