- Chapter 6 - Lu Li, Could He Be His Top Supporter...?
“I’m exhausted.”
Lin Shaojun slumped listlessly over the desk, his voice weak. “Is everyone done packing? Can we go eat now? I’m practically starving.”
Zhai Jiarui poked his head out from his bed, glanced at the darkening sky outside the window, and joined in the lament. “Alright, alright, let’s go. I’m hungry too. Since it’s still early, let’s grab dinner first, then take a walk around the campus area. We can pick up some daily necessities while we’re at it—I still haven’t bought toothpaste or a water cup.”
Hearing this, Lin Shaojun sprang up from his chair like a carp leaping out of water, instantly bursting with energy as if the half-dead person from moments ago wasn’t him. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”
“Lu Ge?”
Lu Li was leaning against the headboard of his bed, scrolling through his phone. He responded with a faint “Hmm.”
“Pei Xi, let’s go.” Zhai Jiarui turned and called out.
Pei Xi was tidying his desk. He looked up at the call. “Got it, I’ll be right there.”
He shoved a book onto the shelf, stood up, patted his pants, and followed the others out.
The dormitory building was bustling with activity, the elevator entrance crowded with a throng of freshmen.
Lin Shaojun and Lu Li walked ahead, side by side, like two moving scenic spots.
Lin Shaojun had a sunny appearance—thick eyebrows, big eyes, a straight nose bridge, and a slightly roguish charm when he smiled, his eyes curving into crescents.
Lu Li, in stark contrast, had deep-set features: highbrow bones, a prominent nose, and a face so finely sculpted it seemed perfect. Yet his expression was aloof, his aura intense. It wasn’t an act of coldness but a sense of detachment that seemed innate, making others hesitate to approach.
They drew frequent glances along the way.
Pei Xi and Zhai Jiarui followed behind, keenly aware of the curious and intense gazes directed their way. Whispers drifted from all directions.
“Are they freshmen?”
“Wow, are all the freshmen this year so good-looking?”
“Should we take a photo and ask the confession wall if anyone has their contact info?”
Zhai Jiarui suddenly slung an arm around Pei Xi’s neck and clicked his tongue lightly. “Hey, third bro, do you think we look like their entourage?”
Pei Xi stumbled slightly from the gesture. He wasn’t used to such closeness but didn’t push Zhai Jiarui away, merely nodding silently.
To be precise, it was more like he alone resembled an entourage.
Walking side by side with Zhai Jiarui, he occasionally noticed those intense gazes passing over him and landing on Zhai Jiarui instead.
Pei Xi glanced down at himself.
He wasn’t tall—a full head shorter than the others. Dressed in a plain white T-shirt and wearing those outdated thick-framed glasses that covered half his face, he looked like an utterly ordinary freshman.
He blended seamlessly into the crowd, as if he existed on a different layer from the three of them.
Hearing Zhai Jiarui’s remark, Lin Shaojun, who was walking ahead, suddenly stopped and turned around, a teasing smile on his face. “Well then, why don’t you two take the lead?”
Zhai Jiarui immediately tugged Pei Xi forward a few steps, overtaking Lin Shaojun and Lu Li. He grinned. “Then I won’t stand on ceremony. You two can be our entourage and help us carry some stuff later.”
Lin Shaojun was amused by him. “You sure know how to dream.”
The four of them chatted and laughed as they walked out of the school gate.
The night market in Ningcheng was bustling with life.
The street was right next to the school, lined with food stalls of all sizes on both sides, filling the air with the lively atmosphere of street food.
It was dinner time, and the crowd was overwhelming. They were practically being pushed along by the sea of people.
Zhai Jiarui led the way, glancing back as he walked and calling out, “Stay close, don’t get separated by the crowd.”
Pei Xi nearly got swept away by the flow of people. Besides pedestrians, there were also many electric scooters weaving through the food street. An oncoming scooter honked its horn, and he instinctively stepped back, bumping into someone’s chest.
“Sorry,” Pei Xi quickly apologized. Looking up, he met Lu Li’s stern face and froze for a moment before quickly stepping back and apologizing again, “My apologies.”
Lu Li didn’t say anything, just motioned for Pei Xi to move closer to the inside, shielding him from the surging crowd.
Watching this scene, a subtle feeling welled up in Pei Xi’s heart.
His roommate didn’t seem as cold and unapproachable as he had imagined.
None of the nearby restaurants had empty tables, or at least none that could seat all four of them.
Finally spotting an open spot at a street-side eatery, Zhai Jiarui and Lin Shaojun rushed ahead to claim the seats.
Zhai Jiarui waved to Pei Xi and Lu Li. “Over here!”
The four of them sat down, finally catching their breath.
Lu Li frowned slightly at the oily stains still on the table. Without a word, he took a few napkins and, with downcast eyes, carefully wiped the grease off the tabletop.
Noticing Pei Xi’s fixed gaze, Lu Li handed him a napkin.
Only then did Pei Xi realize he had been staring at Lu Li, which seemed impolite. He took the napkin Lu Li offered and wiped the table as well.
The restaurant was packed, and the staff was short-handed. The busy owner brought them tea and a menu, telling them to write down their orders themselves before rushing off to serve other tables.
“What do you guys want to eat?” Lin Shaojun picked up the menu and quickly ordered two dishes he wanted. “Just tell me what you want, and I’ll write it down. Tonight’s on Lu, so order whatever you like.”
Zhai Jiarui and Pei Xi instinctively glanced at Lu Li.
Pei Xi finally noticed Lu Li’s attire and the watch on his wrist, vaguely guessing his affluent family background.
Lu Li was carefully rinsing the bowls and chopsticks with hot tea. Sensing their gazes, he nodded and said calmly, “No need to be polite. Order whatever you want.”
Lin Shaojun added beside him, “Don’t hold back with Lu.”
Zhai Jiarui and Pei Xi each ordered a moderately priced dish before handing the menu back to Lin Shaojun.
Lin Shaojun flipped through the menu and continued writing. “They even have salmon here. Want to try it?”
Lu Li replied, “Order it.”
“One portion probably won’t be enough for us. Let’s get two more,” Lin Shaojun chuckled, familiar with Lu Li’s eating habits. “What else do you want? Steamed mandarin fish? Or sweet and sour fish? How about some prawns in soy sauce and stir-fried squid with roe? Anything else?”
Lu Li glanced at him lightly. “Can you finish all that?”
“You must be joking. How could I possibly not finish it all? Aren’t Zhai Jiarui and Pei Xi here too?” Lin Shaojun called out to a passing waiter, handed him the completed menu, then turned back to Lu Li and added, “This meal was earned with my sweat. You have no idea how dusty our dorm room was.”
Zhai Jiarui chuckled and said, “Good thing I brought disposable towels, otherwise cleaning would have been impossible.”
The waiter served the dishes quickly, covering the entire table.
Qiaochuan Island’s cuisine leaned toward sweet and mild flavors, so Pei Xi kept eating the pine nut fish and sweet and sour pork with pineapple. As for dishes like boiled fish and spicy turtle, he only took a small taste before giving up.
Both Zhai Jiarui and Lin Shaojun preferred bold, spicy flavors—they couldn’t enjoy a meal without some heat.
The milder dishes on the table were ordered by Lin Shaojun for Lu Li, who couldn’t handle spicy food.
“How’s the taste at this place?”
“Not bad at all. Generous portions and affordable.”
“I did some research before coming. This area near the school is full of all kinds of restaurants, and there’s also a cafeteria on campus. Plenty of dining options.”
“It seems we can order takeout too, but deliveries can’t come inside. They can only be left at the dorm entrance.”
“…”
After eating and drinking their fill, Pei Xi leaned back in his chair, looking down at his phone.
Opening TikTok, he found many messages in his inbox—daily check-ins from fans to keep their “spark” alive, messages from strangers, and requests from “brothers and sisters” for content…
A small red dot also appeared next to the pinned profile picture.

Just as Pei Xi was about to turn off his phone, a “ding” sound suddenly rang out—a notification tone.
He froze. Was it a coincidence?
How could he have just sent a message and immediately heard the sound of a notification coming in?
Instinctively, he looked up and scanned his surroundings, trying to locate the source of the notification.
Zhai Jiarui and Lin Shaojun were still engrossed in eating, their chopsticks never stopping. They clearly had no time to check their phones.
His gaze settled on Lu Li, who was also on his phone. Pei Xi pursed his lips. It couldn’t be… Lu Li didn’t seem like the type to be interested in cross-dressing streamers.
Lu Li appeared to be checking some messages, his thumb lightly swiping across the screen.
Pei Xi secretly watched his every move, his heart pounding in his throat. With great effort, he tore his eyes away and looked back at his own phone.
[User10557880 is typing…]
Pei Xi couldn’t wait. He randomly sent an emoji to [User10557880], hoping to test his suspicion.
He strained his ears, nervously watching his phone screen while keeping a close eye on Lu Li from the corner of his eye.
But the expected “ding” never came.
Zhai Jiarui and Lin Shaojun were still chatting, while Lu Li had already put his phone away, sitting quietly and listening to his friends talk.
Pei Xi let out a sigh of relief. It really was just his imagination.
Although this was his first time meeting Lu Li, he inexplicably had a stereotypical impression of him. Someone with his personality probably wouldn’t enjoy watching female streamers dance, let alone a male streamer cross-dressing as a woman.
Besides, Lu Li seemed undeniably straight.
Although in some ways, he felt Lu Li resembled his top supporter, [User10557880]—reserved, aloof, slow to warm up, and hard to approach.
But his top supporter couldn’t possibly be a guy his own age, could he? The other person seemed quite capable, appearing much more mature than him.
He’d better not speculate wildly.
