- Chapter 3 - The Little Chicken Treasure Who Eats Like a Champion
The little chick couldn’t believe his eyes.
If Father Lu and Mother Lu were a coincidence, then Lu Linshu couldn’t be.
The little chick watched Lu Linshu descend the stairs and asked the System, “Chatterbox, are there parallel worlds?”
“Host, I don’t know. But the world is vast, and anything can happen.”
At this moment, a flood of thoughts rushed through Lin Xichuan’s mind.
In his memory, Lu Linshu had always been a man of immaculate cleanliness, someone whose very profile was sculpted to perfection. But now.
How had he become like this?
His underlying features were still flawless, but.
In the past, he looked lean and powerful in clothes, and stripped bare, every muscle on his body was a masterpiece of aesthetics. His hair was always perfectly styled, and he had two distinct moles, one below his left eye and one beside his right nostril. He exuded an aura of unattainable coldness laced with a hint of seduction. When his deep black eyes locked onto you, the pressure was suffocating.
But now, he was a shadow of his former self.
His once-short hair was now an awkward, shapeless length that reached below his ears. He was covered in stubble and dressed in rumpled pajamas that hung loosely on his gaunt frame.
From Lin Xichuan’s observation, such a frail body couldn’t possibly have abs.
How had his boyfriend ended up like this?
Or rather, what had happened to this world?
Seeing his ex-boyfriend, he felt certain they were in the same world as before, yet everything here exuded a strange sense of unfamiliarity.
Lin Xichuan found it all very odd.
As he lost himself in thought, the old woman looked up at him on the stairs and smiled. “A’shu, come down quickly. Lunch is ready.”
Lu Linshu nodded to her and called out “Grandma” in a soft, slightly hoarse voice.
It was a voice Lin Xichuan knew all too well, the voice of his ex-boyfriend.
Lin Xichuan’s mind was a whirl of confusion. As Lu Linshu moved, the little chick’s head followed him.
“A’shu, look,” the old woman said. “We have a new little friend in the house.”
Following her gesture, all eyes turned to the little chick on the coffee table.
Being stared at by so many people at once, and knowing that three of them were likely his ex-boyfriend’s parents, the little chick grew nervous. It fluffed up its small wings, making its already round body look even rounder.
The old woman spoke cautiously, “A’shu, Grandma knows you might not like it, but I hope it can keep you company.”
Lu Linshu’s gaze fixed directly on the little chick.
The man and the bird locked eyes.
Lu Linshu didn’t reply.
To get a better look at him, the little chick craned its neck, its beady eyes widening like a startled chicken.
The old woman continued, “A’shu, from now on, this will be your baby.”
Lu Linshu: “…”
The little chick’s pupils shook.
No.
If I translate that sentence, it means from now on, I’m my ex-boyfriend’s baby?
Is this a distortion of the world or a collapse of morality? How did I go from being his boyfriend to his baby?
While Lin Xichuan was reeling from the shock, the old woman said, “A’shu, pet it.”
It was obvious from her actions that she was desperate to build a bridge between Lu Linshu and the little chick.
Lu Linshu’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. He glanced at the old woman, let out a silent sigh, and slightly bent down, intending to follow her wishes and touch the little chick…
Just as Lu Linshu’s finger was about to touch the little chick, the tiny creature’s two small claws firmly gripped his outstretched finger.
Everyone, including Lu Linshu, was astonished. Despite this being its first time meeting him, the little thing was already showing such affection.
Under everyone’s watchful gaze, the little chick blinked its eyes and shifted its small claws.
It was still too young to walk steadily, but it seemed to have a goal of its own.
Mother Lu said, “Little Chicken Treasure seems to really like A’shu.”
Grandma Lu’s smile deepened as she added, “This must be fate.”
The little cub chimed in, “Actually, Little Chicken Treasure doesn’t seem to have a very good temper. When Uncle reached out, I thought it was going to peck him.”
As if sensing the little cub’s negative review, the little chick, which had already climbed from Lu Linshu’s finger to his arm, turned its head and chirped at the little cub, as if it were swearing.
No one understood what it was saying, but they could only guess it wasn’t anything pleasant.
Mother Lu repeated, “It really seems to like A’shu.”
Grandma Lu nodded.
The little cub looked on with envy.
They all had one question: What was this little thing trying to do now?
Soon, they found out why.
Little Birdie climbed up Lu Linshu’s arm and…
The little chick slipped right into Lu Linshu’s collar.
Lin Xichuan’s target was clear: the body beneath Lu Linshu’s clothes.
After slipping inside, Lin Xichuan looked down, aiming for Lu Linshu’s chest and abdominal muscles.
Sure enough.
Just as he’d guessed when he first saw Lu Linshu not long ago, this now-frail body theoretically couldn’t possibly have the abs he’d once loved so much.
Gone.
For a moment, Lin Xichuan felt like his world was collapsing.
The abs he’d longed for were gone.
By the time Lin Xichuan could even react, one of Lu Linshu’s large hands reached into his shirt and plucked out the little chick, who had been pressing its entire small body against his abdomen.
The little chick, held fast in the large hand, remained motionless. Its Doudouyan stared at Lu Linshu, trying to hold back but ultimately failing to resist.
“Chirp chirp? Quack quack chirp? Chirp chirp?” Boyfriend? What happened to you? Where are your abs? Why are they gone?
“Ji ji quack?” Why are you so thin now?
“Quack quack quack?” You used to shave every day. Why don’t you shave now? Do you know you look like an old man like this?
Lu Linshu’s face remained impassive as he tried to put the little chick back into its cotton nest.
But it wasn’t that easy.
The entire Lu Family watched in astonishment.
Theoretically, Lu Linshu wasn’t fond of animals. Yet, the little chick Grandma Lu had brought home today seemed to adore him. Its two tiny claws clung tightly to Lu Linshu’s finger, trying to weld its plump, round, fluffy body to his palm.
The little cub watched with envy.
Lu Linshu’s brow furrowed imperceptibly as he tried to pry open the little chick’s claws.
The chick was so small that even a little too much force could hurt it. Lu Linshu had to carefully control his strength, but this action apparently angered the ill-tempered little bird. The tiny creature clamped its sharp beak onto Lu Linshu’s finger.
Feeling a slight sting, Lu Linshu used his other hand to gently hold the chick’s beak. His voice was stern. “You can’t bite people.”
The little cub grew anxious and immediately said, “Oh! Uncle, be gentler when you hold Little Chicken Treasure’s beak. He’s still a baby chicken.”
The little chick blinked its beady eyes at the little cub, its two tiny claws still clinging tightly to Lu Linshu’s finger.
Lu Linshu found himself completely unable to detach the little bird from his hand.
The little cub said with utmost seriousness, “Uncle, Little Chicken Treasure is still too small. He’s the baby you carried for ten months, Uncle. You must take good care of your little sister.”
Lu Linshu: “…”
Not only was Lu Linshu stunned, but Lin Xichuan, the Little Chicken Treasure himself, was also utterly bewildered.
What do you mean he was carried by Lu Linshu for ten months? They weren’t even the same species!
Lu Linshu looked at the little cub and said, “A’ruo, go study.”
The little cub pouted and let out a soft “Oh.”
Grandma Lu said, “Alright, alright, let’s go eat.”
Theoretically, they should have put the little chick back into its cotton nest. But the little chick’s attachment to Lu Linshu was simply too strong. With no other choice, Lu Linshu had to bring the little chick to the dining table.
Lunch was very simple.
There were some green vegetables picked from the courtyard and a bowl of rice for each person. Surprisingly, the portion of staple food in Lu Linshu’s bowl was even smaller than the little cub’s.
Judging by the Lu Family’s attitude toward Lu Linshu, they hadn’t mistreated him. That meant…
This was actually Lu Linshu’s usual appetite.
Lin Xichuan finally understood why his boyfriend had become so thin. At the same time, a question gnawed at him: What on earth happened?
What happened to Lu Linshu? And what was the state of this world now?
Lin Xichuan’s body had always been honest.
He had been a bird for three days.
In those three days, as a Foodie Bird, he had even managed to feed himself formula without his owner’s help. Now…
The little chick saw the food in Lu Linshu’s bowl, and every cell in his body screamed with a craving for human food.
I want to eat it!
I want to eat it!
The bird really wants to eat it!
So, the little creature, who until just a moment ago had been impossible to pry off his finger, voluntarily hopped onto the table.
Everyone noticed immediately.
After all, Little Birdie had only arrived home today, and they were all captivated by him. Their eyes were constantly glued to the little thing.
In that instant, the entire Lu Family shared the same thought.
, This little guy is clearly a clever little guy.
Look at that mischievous, shifty-eyed gaze, even at such a young age. Who knows what he’s plotting in that little head of his?
Under their bewildered gazes, the little thing dragged its round, plump body forward with its two tiny claws, wobbling unsteadily as it struggled to even walk.
Lu Linshu narrowed his eyes slightly.
And then.
The little thing lifted a claw, grabbed the edge of the rice bowl, and in the next moment, the entire Little Birdie tried to climb up.
Uh oh.
The little chick still lacked control over its body, and it tumbled headfirst right into the rice bowl.
The tiny bird’s pupils practically shook with shock.
“Pfft!” Mother Lu couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.
The little cub said, “Hey, hey, this little sister needs to save face too! Grandma, don’t you laugh at me.” Even as he spoke, his small chest was shaking with laughter.
Lu Linshu let out a silent sigh and reached out, scooping the little chick into his hand.
The little chick’s entire plump body was enveloped by Lu Linshu’s large hand. Seizing this opportunity, the little chick stuffed its sharp beak full of rice grains.
Lu Linshu’s hand paused mid-motion.
From the little chick’s appearance, it seemed to be eating the rice.
The sticky grains clung to the little chick’s beak.
Mother Lu’s voice was filled with uncertainty, “Is this chick really this small? Can it even eat rice?”
Father Lu shook his head, not entirely sure himself.
Lu Linshu reached out, trying to pry the rice grain from the bird’s beak. As it turned out, this was quite a challenge. Despite its tiny beak, the little bird was surprisingly good at hiding things.
Grandma Lu said, “The chick formula it’s already eating is made from grains, so eating rice shouldn’t be a problem.” She paused before adding, “But for a little bird, this kind of food doesn’t have much nutritional value. It’s better not to feed it.”
Hearing this, Lu Linshu stopped trying to pry out the rice grain the little chick had already tucked away in its beak.
Everyone’s tense hearts relaxed slightly.
The little cub, clinging like a snail, had already dampened the handkerchief and handed it to Lu Linshu with both hands.
Lu Linshu took the moist handkerchief and wiped the stray rice grains off the little chick’s body.
Mother Lu said, “This little chick is really greedy. Even when A’shu was holding it, it stretched its neck so far just to eat the rice.”
Father Lu agreed, “Yeah.”
After Lu Linshu finished cleaning the rice grains off the little chick, the little creature seemed to have calmed down on the surface. In reality…
The moment he let his guard down, its target became crystal clear.
Lu Linshu’s rice bowl.
Two little feet went patter patter patter as it charged toward the rice!
Charge, charge, charge!
You have to admit, rice was just way tastier than chick formula.
Before the little chick could even get close, Lu Linshu’s large hand snatched it up.
The little bird tried to stretch its neck, but the next moment, Lu Linshu pulled his hand back, and the bird’s head grew farther and farther away from the rice.
The little chick struggled to free itself from Lu Linshu’s hand, tucking its head into its still-mostly-bald chest. It was the classic preening posture, though the little guy didn’t actually have any feathers to preen yet.
Everyone assumed the little chick had finally given up on the rice.
But just as they thought that, they noticed its shifty, calculating gaze.
Sure enough.
The next moment, the little thing charged forward again with a patter-patter-patter.
Giving the little creature no chance to get near the bowl, Lu Linshu’s large hand snatched it up again.
The cycle repeated.
Lu Linshu finished his meal faster than he ever had before.
Mainly because a bird was trying to steal his food.
Grandma Lu looked on with a pleased expression. “A’shu never finishes a whole bowl of rice. It’s true what they say, having a child really does change a person.”
Lu Linshu: “…”
He lowered his gaze to the little chick, which was now clinging tightly to his finger.
Just moments ago, the little chick had been struggling to get away from Lu Linshu’s grasp. But back then, its target was the rice. Now that the bowl was empty, the little chick’s tiny claws were locked onto Lu Linshu’s finger, refusing to let go.
It was practically welded to his hand.
Grandma Lu said, “A’shu, Little Chicken Treasure is still young and needs to eat often. And our Little Chicken Treasure has such a big appetite, so make sure you feed him plenty.”
Lu Linshu: “…”
Oh.
He understood what she meant.
Grandma Lu was telling him to go brew some formula for the little chick right now.
In a way, how was this any different from raising a baby?
