- Chasing My Husband! The "Crown Prince" of the Beijing Circle Is Wildly Unruly!
- Chapter 7 - Why Are You Always Turning Your Back to Me?
“How have you been these days? The ‘Little New Year’ is tomorrow. Do you have any plans?” The Chinese New Year was just around the corner.
The kid still didn’t show any signs of having regained his memory.
He looked at Lu Jingze’s beautiful phoenix eyes, waiting for his answer.
“It’s great. I really like it here, and I really like this job.” Lu Jingze’s expression was completely sincere, without a hint of pretense.
“Our shop is closing tomorrow. No one comes to eat here during the holidays, so there’s no point in staying open. What about you?” Wang Xinghe looked at his eyes, looking as if he had something more to say.
Last week, he had taken him for a full check-up. He was healthy in all aspects, but he had no memory.
The doctor said it might be a post-traumatic stress disorder or due to a variety of other reasons.
Wang Xinghe couldn’t be sure.
“I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to spend the holidays with you.” Lu Jingze’s eyes looked over, filled with an incredible longing and expectation.
Wang Xinghe’s heart stirred imperceptibly.
He hadn’t celebrated the holidays for four years.
This year…
He really didn’t want to celebrate them either.
He let out a sigh. “Aze, I don’t celebrate the holidays. It’s a festival for people who have family. I don’t.”
Lu Jingze froze, stunned for three seconds, but couldn’t ask a single word.
In nearly a month, besides the occasional visits from his little niece, he really hadn’t seen any of Wang Xinghe’s family.
Wang Xinghe didn’t want to bring up the past. He lowered his eyes, staring at the teacup in his hand. “I’ll give you the car, and I’ll give you a month’s worth of wages. I’ll also buy you a phone. You can travel around.”
He wanted to be alone.
Suddenly, his hand, which was holding the teacup, was held by a pair of long, hot hands.
The heat made Wang Xinghe want to pull away, but the hands held him even tighter.
“Brother Xinghe, please stay with me this year. I’m alone and have no memory. It’s very scary.”
“Besides, I don’t have a driver’s license. If I get caught by the traffic police, I won’t be able to explain myself.”
Wang Xinghe looked him in the eye, seeing his somewhat wronged expression, and finally, his heart softened.
He had no ID, no driver’s license, no phone, and no memory. Where could he go?
“Okay. Tomorrow night, come with me to my eldest uncle’s housewarming dinner. My cousin has asked me several times, and it wouldn’t be right not to go,” Wang Xinghe said, pursing his lips and hesitating for a moment.
Then he added, “Some of my relatives aren’t very friendly. If they say anything, you don’t need to defend me, and you must not get into a conflict with anyone. Can you do that?”
“Yes,” Lu Jingze promised solemnly.
Wang Xinghe’s eldest uncle’s housewarming dinner was at a small restaurant in town. There were a total of thirteen tables.
They were all members of his family, relatives, and some very good friends.
They were mostly from a few villages in the town, and everyone knew each other.
Wang Xinghe brought 5,000 yuan as a gift, and Lu Jingze carried two large bottles of oil.
They walked through the hotel’s front door.
Some of the relatives there sympathized with him, while others resented him for taking ownership of his grandparents’ old house and selling it.
Besides his eldest uncle’s, his third uncle’s, and his second aunt’s families, he was on bad terms with almost everyone.
Regardless of anything else, just because of his eldest uncle’s fair and just attitude, Wang Xinghe felt he had to come on behalf of his parents.
“Oh, look who it is,” a woman’s voice rang out in front of them.
Wang Xinghe looked at her with a calm expression, walked to the check-in desk, and handed over the gift money.
Lu Jingze, on the other hand, looked at the woman behind him, who was about thirty years old, likely a cousin of Wang Xinghe’s.
Her mean face was immediately unappealing. Lu Jingze looked away, his gaze returning to Wang Xinghe.
The person collecting the gift money was Wang Xinghe’s little niece. She was the daughter of his eldest uncle’s son.
“Oh~ Uncle~ Oh~ Brother Lu is here, too~” The little niece shyly took the gift money, not daring to look up at Lu Jingze.
Lu Jingze placed the two large bottles of peanut oil on the table.
The little niece’s cheeks were flushed. “Brother Lu, do you play ‘King of Glory’? Can you carry me?”
Wang Xinghe knew how attractive Lu Jingze’s looks were to girls. He flicked the little girl’s head. “Study hard and don’t think about useless things.”
“Uncle! My hair!” The little niece flared up on the spot.
Lu Jingze shrugged, his expression indifferent. “Your uncle has a strict hand, and I’ll listen to him.”
The little niece was speechless. She stuck out her tongue at Wang Xinghe. “Uncle, I’m going to smash your shop door during the holidays so you can’t sleep in!”
“Then play fewer games. The college entrance exam is next year. If you dare to smash my door, I’ll shove practice tests in your face as soon as I open it!” Wang Xinghe stopped joking around with her.
He led Lu Jingze to a seat.
“Brother Xinghe, if you bring me along, won’t they have an issue with it?”
Wang Xinghe brought him to pay a larger gift.
Most people here gave 2,000 yuan. By bringing Lu Jingze, a stranger, and giving 5,000 yuan, it would be considered a gift for two people.
4,000 yuan didn’t sound good, so 5,000 yuan was the perfect amount.
“Just eat quietly and don’t worry about it,” Wang Xinghe didn’t explain.
Their table was in a corner, and the big screen on the stage played lively, festive songs.
Dish after dish was served, but Lu Jingze ate with little interest, finding the food to be quite ordinary.
Wang Xinghe also barely touched anything. He was trying his best to suppress his discomfort.
He drank one glass of alcohol after another. If Lu Jingze hadn’t seen that his face showed no change, he would have stopped him.
Wang Xinghe’s face didn’t turn red when he drank, so it looked like he wasn’t drunk. His alcohol tolerance was also good.
“How dare you show up here? Your grandmother must have been blind to give you the family’s old house. You sold it for only 200,000 yuan! Then it was demolished and a new building was built on the land for over 1.5 million yuan the next year. You just gave a good deal to a stranger!” It was his third aunt.
She had been resentful about him selling the old house.
Wang Xinghe did sell it. He didn’t argue and didn’t want to say a single word.
He just drank by himself.
“Why are you wasting your breath on this little beast? Eldest brother, you have too much free time on your hands. Why did you invite him to a happy occasion like this?!” This was his second aunt.
“He’s a jinx! A bad omen! His family was cursed to death because of him!”
“A bringer of bad luck! A star of mourning!”
Wang Xinghe closed his eyes. He had already expected this result before he came.
He gripped his wine glass tightly and took another sip.
Bang!
Lu Jingze slammed his hand on the table.
“Shut your mouths, all of you!”
“Go to hell!”
“What an evil omen. You’ve soiled my ears!”
Wang Xinghe only felt his arm being grabbed. He was pulled through the crowd, out of the hotel.
Wang Xinghe stood there, dazed, looking at the furious Lu Jingze.
“Are you stupid? Letting people point at you and curse you?”
“Wang Xinghe, I listened to you. I didn’t lay a finger on them. Otherwise, I don’t care if they’re men, women, or old people; they’d all be on the floor!”
“Damn them!”
Wang Xinghe let out a long breath. “I’m sorry. I knew this would happen; I should have never brought you here.”
“Sorry for what?! Let’s go home!”
He took Wang Xinghe’s car keys from his down jacket pocket.
He put him in the passenger seat.
They sped back to the noodle shop.
Wang Xinghe’s face was still calm, as if the curses were just normal words that didn’t affect him.
He was actually a little drunk. He took off his clothes, washed up, and got into bed.
The past was like a knife. He didn’t dare to remember.
Lu Jingze also washed up and got into his bed.
But just like the first night, he still had his back to him, lying on the very edge of the bed.
Wang Xinghe was probably a little drunk. He turned around and looked at his strong back.
“Aze, why do you always turn your back to me when you sleep? Why are you so far away?”
