- Chasing My Husband! The "Crown Prince" of the Beijing Circle Is Wildly Unruly!
- Chapter 28 - Wang Xinghe Is Sick
Eighteen-year-old Wang Shuya was at a sensitive age. When she heard that her poor uncle had someone who promised to stay with him, she started crying with emotion. If she hadn’t promised her uncle that she wouldn’t talk about his past, she would have blurted everything out.
“Sniff—” Wang Shuya sniffled.
Lu Jingze was gazing out the window at the falling snow. His calm voice seemed to cut through the winter cold. “How did his parents pass away?”
Wang Shuya pursed her lips slightly, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes, which quickly turned firm. “I’m sorry, Brother Lu. My uncle asked me not to say anything.”
Lu Jingze didn’t force her. He understood that everyone had their own secrets and boundaries. His gaze shifted to the faint light on the second floor. “I think he’s sick. He looks normal, but something feels off. I’m really afraid he’ll do something impulsive one day.”
“Given your uncle’s personality, even if you ask him directly, he’ll only brush it off with a few vague words.”
Wang Shuya remained silent for a long time, struggling between keeping her promise and listening to Lu Jingze. Finally, she made up her mind. “Brother Lu, I still can’t tell you. Wait until my uncle tells you, and then you can ask me for the detailed story.”
Lu Jingze respected her decision. He didn’t pressure her and simply nodded. “Okay.”
After hanging up, Lu Jingze sat by the window on the first floor in endless silence. Ji Yuheng now knew about Wang Xinghe’s existence, and this news would soon reach his grandfather. His idiot father and brainless mother would probably make a move soon. This place wasn’t safe. Coming here was a bit impulsive, but he was going to come sooner or later. It would be better to take Wang Xinghe back to Kyoto, where he could protect him. He was confident in his ability to do so now.
But how could he convince Wang Xinghe to go with him?
…
Lu Jingze thought of Wang Xinghe’s older sister. His fingers flew across his phone screen. He sent a message to his subordinate.
[Lu Jingze: Look into a person, Wang Xinghe’s older sister. I want all the details.]
And since Wang Shuya wouldn’t tell him about Wang Xinghe’s past and Wang Xinghe himself was even less likely to, it would take forever to get the information from them. So, he sent another message.
[Lu Jingze: Do a background check on Wang Xinghe’s past as well.]
“Beep—”
[Subordinate: Received, Brother Lu. I’ll get back to you by tomorrow at the latest.]
Lu Jingze put away his phone and quietly went up to the second floor. The bedroom light was already out. He knelt carefully at the head of Wang Xinghe’s bed, feeling annoyed yet uneasy. “Am I really so unforgivable and beyond redemption?”
But Wang Xinghe was fast asleep, and no one was there to answer his question. Lu Jingze knew he was at fault, but he was also defiant. There was no way he was going to sleep on the sofa. He dried his feet and quietly slipped into Wang Xinghe’s blanket from the other side of the bed. He pulled Wang Xinghe into his arms. He didn’t dare make any sudden movements, afraid that Wang Xinghe would wake up and angrily kick him off the bed.
…
When Wang Xinghe woke up, he found himself lying in Lu Jingze’s arms. He was speechless and began to question his life. Hadn’t he made himself clear to Lu Jingze? Why didn’t he understand him? When he talked to Zhao Yan, Zhao Yan understood him perfectly and never crossed the line of friendship again. So why was Lu Jingze so obtuse?
He struggled to get out of Lu Jingze’s arms, and this movement woke Lu Jingze. Still half-asleep, Lu Jingze pulled Wang Xinghe back into his arms. “Don’t be a pain, Brother Xinghe. Let’s sleep a little longer… I’m tired…”
Wang Xinghe: “…”
Wang Xinghe still managed to break free. He glanced at Lu Jingze, who had rolled over and continued to sleep. Only two words came to mind: utterly speechless. How could there be such a brazenly clingy person in the world?
Wang Xinghe had planned to drink alone for seven days and nights, but that plan was now ruined. With Lu Jingze clinging to him, he couldn’t let go at all. Today was the second day of the Lunar New Year, and the stores were still closed. The food supply at home wasn’t much. He took a piece of beef tendon from the freezer and started to blanch it. He found a small clay pot, added some seasoning packets, and started to stew it slowly, turning the heat from high to low.
When Lu Jingze came downstairs, the entire place was filled with an inviting aroma. He leaned against the kitchen doorway, watching Wang Xinghe’s thin figure. His gaze must have been too intense, as Wang Xinghe turned his head and looked at him. As their eyes met, Lu Jingze strode forward and hugged Wang Xinghe tightly. “You’re so handsome, my brother.”
Wang Xinghe broke free from his embrace again. “Don’t do that.”
Lu Jingze wasn’t bothered. He followed him around the kitchen. When Wang Xinghe washed the plates, he handed him paper towels. When he washed the bowls and chopsticks, Lu Jingze tidied the countertop. It was the same unspoken teamwork they used to have.
After Wang Xinghe made the dough, he added eggs, peanut oil, and salt. He kept rolling and shaping the dough until it became springy, then he began to cut it with a knife. Slices of perfectly uniform dough flew from Wang Xinghe’s hands into the boiling pot. Since he hadn’t stewed any bones beforehand, it was just a clear noodle soup this time. He sliced a few pieces of beef and blanched some spinach to put on top. One bowl for him and one for Lu Jingze.
They ate head to head, looking just like they used to. But Lu Jingze could feel Wang Xinghe’s rejection and emotional walls. He regretted his actions once again, wishing he hadn’t been so reckless. Wang Xinghe was different from others. He usually didn’t get angry or hold grudges, but when he did, he was incredibly difficult to win back.
Sigh… He ate his noodles half-heartedly, sighing to himself. Why was Wang Xinghe so stubborn? He was such a gentle person, so why was he so resolute deep down? Everyone makes mistakes. Couples break up and get back together all the time, so why was it so difficult with them?
“Beep, beep, beep—”
A series of messages came through on his phone. Lu Jingze put down his chopsticks and picked up his phone.

Lu Jingze opened the file. The initial information was nothing new—height, weight, date of birth, general health, and… that he had been to a psychologist. The result was severe depression.
Lu Jingze’s mind went blank. His face turned ashen. He continued to read… Wang Xinghe’s college paper was accused of plagiarism, and from then on, he stopped painting. That same year… his parents were in a car accident while attending his graduation ceremony. His father died instantly, and his mother held on for several months in the ICU before passing away. After that, Wang Xinghe wandered through Shaanxi, Kyoto, Sichuan, Henan, Zhejiang, and Liaoning. Two years ago, he returned to his old home, took over his father’s business, and opened a noodle shop. Last year, the place was redeveloped, and he moved again…
Lu Jingze closed his phone and looked at Wang Xinghe. He felt that the noodles in his hand tasted bitter. He truly understood his mistake now. He finally understood that when Wang Xinghe said it was all in the past, he genuinely meant it. He wasn’t… joking at all.
Lu Jingze’s throat bobbed, his eyes cast down. Wang Xinghe had opened his heart to him once, and he hadn’t cherished it.
