- Chasing My Husband! The "Crown Prince" of the Beijing Circle Is Wildly Unruly!
- Chapter 26 - Chasing His Wife, Part 1
Wang Xinghe no longer looks at Lu Jingze. He turns and goes upstairs, his figure thin but resolute.
“Thump—”
The yellow and blue iron box makes a soft thud on the wooden table. Wang Xinghe opens the iron box. Inside are the customized Patek Philippe watch, the stack of checks, and his handwritten note.
Lu Jingze’s face turns even paler. All the color is drained from his face, and his breathing even stops.
“I don’t need any of these. Take them.”
Wang Xinghe gives him a helpless smile. “I believe with your experience and background, you wouldn’t be clingy with a man.”
“Lu Jingze, my dream is over. You should wake up, too. You’re not some pitiful soul, and I’m not a savior.”
“From beginning to end, we wove a beautiful dream for each other.”
“I can feel that you really like me, and I believe you can feel that I really like you, too.”
“But you left without a word and chose to tell me that day that we were strangers, which shows that you chose your family business. I respect your choice.”
Wang Xinghe hasn’t failed to notice that Lu Jingze’s hand holding the chopsticks is trembling. But he doesn’t think he’s wrong, nor does he think he can go back to the past.
He continues, “In fact, when I went to find you that day, it wasn’t for reconciliation. The ultimate goal of finding you was just to have a proper farewell.”
“From beginning to end, I never thought of getting back together with you.” Wang Xinghe’s words are simple and direct. He doesn’t avoid the topic or hide his true feelings.
Lu Jingze puts down his chopsticks, his eyes bloodshot. When he looks up, his eyes are filled with tears. “I was wrong…”
“I can explain… Brother Xinghe, can you please listen to my explanation?”
Wang Xinghe nods gently, signaling him to continue. “Go ahead.”
“My family is very complicated. If I had acknowledged you that day, you would have been kidnapped, targeted, and subjected to public criticism. It would have been very dangerous…”
“I went back quietly because I wanted to completely solve the family’s problems, and then…” Lu Jingze chokes. In his original plan, Wang Xinghe was not included.
“I’m not stupid, Lu Jingze. From the moment you gave me the check, I knew that your rationality was telling you that ending our relationship was the wisest choice.”
“Maybe you encountered setbacks, difficulties, or sad things, and that’s why you thought of me.”
“But I don’t think we can spend our lives together.”
Wang Xinghe’s eyes soften, as if he is trying to reason with a lost child. “Love doesn’t need proof.”
“You don’t need to prove your persistence or your love in any way.”
“It’s just that I don’t want to go back.”
Wang Xinghe continues, “Time heals everything. Aze, go back. You won’t get a response from me here.”
“In my 27 years of life, I have never walked back on a decision.”
Wang Xinghe’s calm and gentle expression shatters Lu Jingze’s heart. If there was even a hint of anger or pain in his eyes, he wouldn’t be so sad.
Lu Jingze closes his eyes. “What if I say no?”
“What if I’m obsessed with you?”
Wang Xinghe doesn’t speak. He shakes his head, and when he looks up again, his eyes are still calm, like a soulless robot with a pre-set program.
“Then give it a try. After all, you won’t know the result until you try it yourself.”
Wang Xinghe turns to the kitchen, lights the stove, and makes another bowl of noodles. It’s still a bowl of plain noodles, with a golden-yellow egg giving off an inviting aroma.
Wang Xinghe doesn’t avoid him. He sits across from him, picks up a spoon, and sips the noodle soup one spoonful at a time. He then carefully picks up the noodles and puts them in his mouth. The comforting feeling soothes the hangover from the night before.
Lu Jingze doesn’t dare to waste the noodles in his bowl. He looks at the resolute Wang Xinghe. He swallows them, one spoonful at a time, along with his bitterness. He has almost forgotten the taste of Wang Xinghe’s noodles. This bowl of noodles seems different from the original one…
After finishing the noodles, Lu Jingze takes the bowl and chopsticks to the kitchen to wash them. Wang Xinghe lets him do as he pleases. He leans on the brown-red wooden stool, staring blankly at the snow outside. It snowed again last night. It seems to snow more in this city than in Qingcheng.
“Ring, ring, ring—”
The sound of a phone ringing comes from upstairs. Hearing the familiar ringtone, Wang Xinghe goes up to the second floor. After searching around, he finds his phone in a black down jacket. It’s the one he bought for Lu Jingze. He takes his phone out of Lu Jingze’s jacket. The caller ID shows Wang Shuya. He answers the call.
“Uncle, happy New Year! You didn’t answer my calls or messages last night.” Her voice is full of accusation. “Did you not want me anymore?”
Wang Xinghe reluctantly comforts her. “I drank a little too much last night. I didn’t hear or see anything.”
“Oh—Then did you find Brother Lu, Uncle?” Wang Shuya is still worried about Lu Jingze.
“Your Brother Lu isn’t lost. He’s with your uncle,” Lu Jingze suddenly says from behind him.
“Ahhhhh! Really?! That’s great!” Wang Shuya’s voice lets out a sharp, excited shriek through the phone.
Wang Xinghe frowns slightly and looks at Lu Jingze. “That’s my phone. Be a little more polite.”
Lu Jingze shrugs and deliberately raises his voice. “Hey, Shuya, don’t you want to add your Brother Lu on WeChat?”
“Yes, yes, yes! Uncle, give him the phone! Hurry, hurry, hurry!”
Wang Xinghe: “…”
Wang Xinghe continues, “Don’t just add anyone.”
Wang Shuya gets anxious. “Uncle, my good uncle~”
Lu Jingze also sounds wronged. “You don’t want me anymore, but you can’t even stop me from adding a friend, can you?”
Wang Shuya, hearing the big gossip, wishes she could jump into the phone. “Uncle! Why don’t you want Brother Lu anymore?!”
Wang Xinghe gets a little annoyed. “Is that all you learned in college?”
“Lu Jingze, L-U-J-I-N-G-Z-E, 999. Remember to add me,” Lu Jingze says, reporting his contact information before Wang Xinghe’s face turns completely dark.
Wang Shuya remembers and says excitedly, “Okay!” But she is still conscientious and doesn’t forget her original purpose. “I wish you a happy and safe New Year, Uncle, and don’t forget to send me a red envelope!”
Wang Xinghe has no way of dealing with his niece. He hums softly. “Same to you, happy New Year. I’ll send you a red envelope in a bit.”
He gets 200 yuan for everything, as usual. He hesitates for a moment and then types a message.
[Shuya, don’t tell anyone about my business, especially Lu Jingze. If you do, Uncle will be really mad at you.]
Wang Shuya sends a sticker.
[Wang Shuya: Absolutely loyal. JIG]
Wang Shuya is still typing.
[Wang Shuya: Don’t worry. Between handsomeness and my uncle, I choose my uncle~ After all, my uncle is the most, most, most handsome person in the world~]
[Wang Shuya: I’ve got this.jpg]
Wang Xinghe finally lets out a slight smile. He doesn’t care what they talk about after they add each other. He begins to clean up the empty cans and bottles on the cream-colored linen sofa and coffee table.
Lu Jingze is perceptive enough to grab the trash can and a garbage bag and squat down to help him clean up. Wang Xinghe still doesn’t stop him. He is playing the “win me back” game, and Wang Xinghe is letting him play.
