- Chasing My Husband! The "Crown Prince" of the Beijing Circle Is Wildly Unruly!
- Chapter 109 - They Are Them, and You Are You
Wang Shuya went to the university canteen for breakfast. In her morning haze, she accidentally collided with someone as she walked through the doors. Just as she was about to fall, a firm hand caught her by the waist.
Startled, she looked up and gasped in surprise once she recognized the face. “You’re the waiter from that day?”
She quickly stepped out of Li Kuo’s embrace and offered a grateful smile. “Thank you.”
Li Kuo flashed a friendly, warm grin. “And you are…?” He feigned forgetfulness, a calculated move to lower her guard.
Shuya smiled. “At the wedding a few days ago, my dress got dirty. You offered to help me clean it.”
“Oh! It’s you!” Li Kuo replied, looking pleasantly surprised. “The lighting was so dim then that I didn’t quite recognize you. Are you a student here too?” He asked with the patient, polished charm of a gentleman.
“I’m here for my Master’s degree,” Li Kuo continued, explaining his presence. He had specifically targeted Wang Shuya because of this inherent geographic advantage.
“Wow! What a coincidence! My boyfriend is also a grad student here,” Shuya said excitedly. “I wonder if you’re in the same research group? His name is Xu Ye.”
Before she could finish, footsteps approached from behind. “Shuya.”
Both Shuya and Li Kuo turned to see a tall, sunny boy walking toward them. He was dressed in grey sweatpants and a black T-shirt, his skin fair and his smile bright.
“Li Kuo?” Xu Ye looked at him in surprise.
When Li Kuo saw Xu Ye, his brow furrowed for a split second. He had to force himself to remain composed to avoid looking out of place.
The three of them sat down at a canteen table. After explaining the series of coincidences, they were all amazed.
“Since we’ve run into each other, let me introduce you properly,” Xu Ye said, a small, sunny dimple appearing as he smiled. “This is Wang Shuya, my girlfriend.”
Shuya smiled back at Li Kuo. “Thank you again, Senior. Do you usually work part-time jobs?”
“You bet,” Xu Ye answered for him. “Li Kuo is incredible. He manages several part-time jobs while never falling behind on his research projects.” Graduate school was different from undergraduate studies; research required constant lab work and data collection. To them, Li Kuo was a “God of Study” for balancing it all.
Li Kuo looked at the couple, who clearly only had eyes for each other, and felt a pang of disappointment. The “Wang Shuya line” was dead; he wouldn’t be able to use her to reach Wang Xinghe. He was a man who calculated human hearts; if a challenge required too much time and effort, he would abandon it immediately. He didn’t have time to waste.
“It’s nothing,” Li Kuo said with a smile, checking his watch. “I have to head out. Let’s catch up another time.”
“Sure thing,” Xu Ye said, knowing how busy he was.
After breakfast, as Shuya and Xu Ye walked to the library, Shuya idly scrolled through her phone. “Huh? Xu Ye, do you have my Little Uncle’s WeChat?” She noticed he had liked a photo of Wang Xinghe’s wedding.
Xu Ye looked at the screen in shock. “Brother Wang is your uncle?”
Both of them were stunned.
“When I was at university in Rizhao, I worked part-time at your uncle’s beef noodle shop,” Xu Ye explained. He felt no shame in working his way through school and spoke quite honestly.
“This is incredible,” Shuya said, getting goosebumps. “The fate between us is just too strange.”
Xu Ye smiled bashfully. “So… if we’re dating, do you think your uncle will approve?”
“I’m sure he will! You’re such a good person. You need to have more confidence, Boyfriend!~” Shuya knew how hard Xu Ye had worked to get to where he was today.
Xu Ye nodded, secretly vowing to work even harder to provide Shuya with a stable future. As they walked hand-in-hand through the campus, they didn’t stand out much—there were many lovers at university. Whether they could stay together forever was a matter of destiny, but Shuya didn’t realize that her steadfast love had just helped her dodge a major catastrophe in her life. She would not follow in her aunt’s tragic footsteps.
Three years passed.
In those three years, Lu Jingze used his unique vision and decisive methods to increase the Lu Group’s total assets by 10%. The brilliance of the Lu family and Lu Jingze’s personal reputation became impossible to ignore. Many opportunistic companies looking to make a quick buck were sent packing.
Lu Jingze encouraged entrepreneurship among university students and invested heavily in national funds to help young people start their first businesses. He improved welfare benefits across many sectors and even set up a “Listening” email inbox to hear the voices of those at the bottom of society. If a voice was loud enough, Lu Jingze would give it his personal attention. Even if the voice was small, if the struggle was genuine, he would provide financial support after verification.
As for charity, Lu Jingze left it entirely to Wang Xinghe. Xinghe did not establish his own foundation. He told Lu Jingze clearly that he only wanted to be an assistant and didn’t care for fame. He preferred a quiet, anonymous life.
Lu Jingze never forced him. To Lu Jingze, Xinghe’s happiness was more important than anything. However, Xinghe’s reputation couldn’t be suppressed—insiders began calling him the “Living Bodhisattva.”
He Zheng felt this impact most directly. As the Lu Group rose another level, He Zheng had gained three new assistants. When one assistant made a negligent mistake for which He Zheng had to take responsibility, Lu Jingze was furious.
“He Zheng! Why didn’t your people vet this properly?!” Lu Jingze’s face was cold. He now radiated the sharp, overbearing aura of a supreme ruler, reminiscent of the Old Master in his prime.
A thin sweat broke out on He Zheng’s back. Lu Jingze hadn’t been this angry in a long time. He Zheng didn’t offer excuses; the assistant had indeed been careless, and as the person who hired him, he shared the blame.
Just then, Wang Xinghe walked in, leading Lu Xiangyang (Xiaoyang) by the hand. After hearing the situation, Xinghe spoke up softly: “He Zheng has already initiated emergency measures and compensated for the error. Let’s give the assistant a chance.”
Lu Jingze, who had intended to impose a heavy punishment, felt his anger vanish instantly. He glanced at He Zheng. “Don’t let it happen again. Manage your people better.”
He Zheng looked at Wang Xinghe with gratitude. “Thank you, Mr. Wang. Thank you, President Lu.” He remembered thinking a long time ago that if he ever made a mistake, Wang Xinghe would be the one to give him a chance. It had actually come true.
“He Zheng, when are you and A-Yan going to have your ceremony?” Xinghe asked. “Jingze and I have been married for three years now.”
He Zheng pushed up his glasses. “Once the Chen family’s affairs are fully dealt with, I will propose.”
At the mention of the Chen family, Lu Jingze’s expression shifted slightly. “I’ve seen how you’ve suppressed them over the years. It’s about time to close the net. Just make sure the innocent aren’t caught in the crossfire.”
“I will,” He Zheng nodded. He bowed slightly to the couple. “President Lu, Mr. Wang, I’ll head back now.”
“Alright, drive safely,” Xinghe waved.
Once He Zheng left and Xiaoyang had gone to his room to study, Lu Jingze pulled Xinghe into his arms. He leaned against him like he was “recharging” his batteries. “Brother, we haven’t traveled in a while. Shall we go to Socotra Island to see the Dragon Blood Trees?”
Xinghe gently stroked his dark, coarse hair. “You were so fierce just a moment ago. Why are you acting like a spoiled child now?”
Lu Jingze rubbed his face against Xinghe’s neck. “They are them, and you are you.”
