Cat Demon Raising Manual - Chapter 15
Hua Wangxuan, who had fled from Shen Qingyan, strutted with a full belly and a perky rear, radiating an air of pride as she walked.
Although the wounds from the mad dog’s bite had healed, Hua Wangxuan was a cat who held grudges. Being cornered by mad dogs in her own territory was a first, and she couldn’t let it go. She was determined to get her revenge.
The first step in retaliating against an enemy was to find out where they lived. Hua Wangxuan sought out the head of the intelligence network, a flirtatious, chubby orange tabby.
The chubby tabby had an extensive network of connections and a long list of romantic entanglements. In his youth, he had charmed countless female cats, leaving behind countless illegitimate offspring. Fortunately, after being neutered by humans, he had become much more restrained.
When the chubby tabby first met Hua Wangxuan, he fell head over heels in love. For as long as he pursued her, she beat him up. Perhaps he grew accustomed to the beatings, but eventually, he began to see Hua Wangxuan as his boss, willingly becoming her sidekick and staunchly supporting her status as the feline queen of Spring Street.
Perched on a wall, Hua Wangxuan spotted the chubby tabby with his rear in the air, rummaging through a trash can near the Boxwood Market.
Hua Wangxuan called out to him, and the chubby tabby, startled, instinctively dove headfirst into the trash can. The can was deep, and he flailed his front paws against the sides while his hind legs kicked like a rabbit’s, making for a rather comical sight.
“Chubby, aren’t you going to greet your feline queen? Stop playing dumb!” Hua Wangxuan couldn’t bear to watch the chubby tabby’s foolish antics. She couldn’t understand how someone so clumsy could attract so many admirers.
Once he recognized Hua Wangxuan, the chubby tabby stopped flailing and slumped in the trash can like a wilted vegetable, wearing an embarrassed expression.
“Boss, it’s you! What have you been up to lately? Long time no see.”
Despite his bulky size, his agility remained intact. After composing himself, the chubby tabby nimbly leaped out of the trash can and casually struck up a conversation with Hua Wangxuan.
“I found some fish heads and guts. Would you like to have them, boss?” Chubby asked, proudly presenting the fish entrails in his mouth.
Hua Wangxuan took a few steps back in disgust, maintaining her distance, and replied with a smile, “No, thanks. I’ve already eaten. I need your help with something.”
“I’d jump into a pit of fire or brave a storm of blades for you, boss,” Chubby promised, patting his chest.
“No need to go that far. I recently ran into two mad dogs near Sunflower Neighborhood who had the audacity to try and bully me. In the end, my intelligence and imposing presence scared them off. I want to find out more about them,” Hua Wangxuan shamelessly twisted the facts.
“Those dung-eating mutts have some nerve, daring to harbor ill intentions toward our brilliant, majestic, and divinely beautiful boss! I, Chubby, will make sure they have nowhere to hide. They’ll be exposed, drenched in shame, and have their tails between their legs…”
“Alright, alright, stop misusing idioms…” Hua Wangxuan sighed helplessly, unable to bear it any longer.
“Let me describe what those two dogs look like. See if any cats have spotted them. One is a gray dog with a strong odor, dirty, curly fur, yellow teeth, and a habit of drooling. One bite from it could be fatal. It’s much bigger than me. The other is a black dog with shiny fur, a scar on its face, and a tail as stiff as a stick.”
Hua Wangxuan gestured with her paws as she spoke.
“Hmm, stray dogs are mostly like that, but the scar on its face is an important clue,” Fatty lowered his head in thought. “If someone feeds stray dogs, they usually hang around corners of residential areas, parks, community parking lots, or the edges of green belts. The more cautious ones might choose abandoned buildings, construction sites, garbage dumps, or wet markets.”
“But I haven’t seen any large dogs around here. Some annoying ones hiss at me a few times and then keep their distance. Occasionally, I’ve seen a few poorly behaved pet dogs with no sense of boundaries.”
“What are you two discussing? You look so serious,” a calico cat suddenly interrupted the conversation, her round eyes brimming with curiosity.
“Oh, long time no see, Heibai! Wandering over to my place again, are you? Still thinking about me, huh?” Fatty greeted the calico excitedly, giving her a flirtatious wink.
“Cut it out. We’re sisters now, so stop trying to mark me. I came because I caught the boss’s alluring scent. It looks like you’ve run into some trouble, anything I can help with?” Heibai rolled her eyes at Fatty, then sidled up to Hua Wangxuan, rubbing against her to exchange scents.
Hua Wangxuan’s eyes lit up at Heibai’s appearance. As a well-known “helpful citizen,” Heibai loved wandering around. She had almost been adopted by some devoted human admirers, but her restless and adventurous nature made her politely decline their offer. Instead, she occasionally dropped by for a few free meals.
Hua Wangxuan repeated what she had just told Fatty. Heibai flicked her black tail, tilting her head and half-closing her eyes as she recalled, “I think I remember something like that. Xiao Bai mentioned seeing two vicious-looking troublemakers and was almost scared out of her wits. She told me she ran into two terrifying dogs with a frightening scent near a construction site far away. They almost targeted her, but luckily, Xiao Bai is on good terms with a female human at the site. She stuck close to the human, and those two brutes didn’t dare cause any trouble.”
“The construction site… I need to scout it out,” Hua Wangxuan murmured, hesitating slightly. She wasn’t very familiar with that area.
“Once I confirm their exact location, I’ll teach them a lesson for daring to mess with me!” Hua Wangxuan gritted her teeth, her tone dripping with disgust for the two mad dogs.
“I’ll go too! Fighting evil and upholding justice, Heibai won’t back down!” Heibai puffed out her chest, declaring with a strong sense of righteousness. Fatty quickly raised his paw in agreement.
“They’re really vicious. I should handle punishing those bad dogs myself. If either of you got hurt, I’d feel terrible. Besides, this is my problem to solve,” Hua Wangxuan said, patting Heibai’s head. She couldn’t help but think that it was no wonder humans made an animated series with a calico cat as the protagonist, they really were loyal and righteous.
“Besides, too many cats might alert them. It’s better if I go alone.” Before Heibai and Fatty could protest further, Hua Wangxuan cut them off.
“Just help me get in touch with Xiao Bai. I’ll go myself. Those mangy dogs usually hunt at night and rest in hidden spots during the day. Our hunting skills at night are far superior to theirs,” Hua Wangxuan chuckled, exuding the confidence of a natural predator.
Black and White stared at Hua Wangxuan with starry eyes, volunteering to lead the way. After bidding farewell to Fatty, the two cats headed toward the construction site, the golden glow of the sunset shining on Hua Wangxuan like dancing flecks of gold.
Ding ling ling, The bicycle bell rang crisply.
Mingxi High School had just let out. With Saturday the next day, the students burst out of the school gates like wild horses freed from their reins. Wu Wei was among them.
Throughout the day, she had felt an inexplicable emptiness in her heart, as if a vague figure lingered in her thoughts. Before she knew it, she had picked up an empty corrugated cardboard box from beside the school trash bin.
Her deskmate, Zeng Rong, was shocked and wide-eyed at the sight. “Wei-jie, are you going through a rough patch lately?”
Wu Wei pursed her lips uncomfortably and turned away. “No one wanted it anyway. It’s just recycling and reusing resources.”
“Ah, are you sure you aren’t short on money? If you need some, I can lend you some
Wu Yue grew more uneasy the more she thought about it. Her gaze lowered as she looked at Hua Wangxuan obediently curled up in the basket, and a new question arose in her mind.
Mary should be a female kitten, right?
I’ve heard that once a female cat in heat is spayed, she won’t wander around anymore.
Hua Wangxuan, who had been feigning sleep, suddenly felt a chill run down her spine, a vague sense of foreboding.
