- Chapter 17.2 - In the Darkness, Her Burning Breath Sprayed on Her
At eight o’clock, Liu Chengxu called out to her, “Are we going out to take photos? Meng Zhengyue and Cha Baomei aren’t busy now, they can come and work part-time.”
Su Zhiluo nodded.
The shop also set up customer service accounts for Meng Zhengyue and Cha Baomei. Su Zhiluo would generally calculate their commission based on the orders they handled, or give them an hourly wage if there were no orders at the time.
When they went out, Liu Chengxu had changed into another outfit—a red embroidered top and black, slim-fit straight trousers. This outfit was designed by Su Zhiluo herself and made into a sample by the factory.
Liu Chengxu sat behind her on the electric scooter, wrapping her arms around Su Zhiluo’s waist. On the subway, many people stared at Liu Chengxu. When they got off the subway, someone even came to strike up a conversation. Su Zhiluo saw that the person was a man in his early twenties, and with a stern face, she said nothing, just pulling Liu Chengxu away.
Su Zhiluo’s product selection this time was excellent, achieving sales of fifty thousand in the first month. In the first week, there were already pirated versions, and they even stole their pictures. Su Zhiluo was initially helpless, but then she thought of another trick. She posted Meng Zhengyue and their WeChat contact information in the shop, saying they were the models. Some store owners would privately message them to arrange photo shoots, and these three students found stable part-time work this way.
The three of them represented three different styles and would also do outdoor shoots. After this month, Su Zhiluo’s shop was successfully established. Su Zhiluo then encouraged all three of them to open their own shops. Since others were making money from piracy, they might as well create several accounts to mimic their own shop and earn as much as they could. For them as students, it was profitable. The three shops worked together, and during the peak of the e-commerce boom, they didn’t exactly make a fortune, but they all saved a good amount of money.
Meng Zhengyue didn’t have to worry about being homeless every day after graduation, and Cha Baomei directly sponsored her older sister to study in Washington. Of course, those were later developments.
Su Zhiluo calculated roughly that she was expected to earn twenty-five thousand this month.
That was a huge sum for them. They were nervous and excited, but didn’t know how to celebrate.
The night was still stuffy and hot. Su Zhiluo had been staring at the backend all day and didn’t feel like playing on her phone now. The two of them lay in their respective areas.
Su Zhiluo initiated the conversation, “Did no one pursue you at school?”
Liu Chengxu replied, “Yes.”
Su Zhiluo turned her head curiously to look at her. Liu Chengxu never talked about these things. She thought there were no suitors, which was why Liu Chengxu’s attention was always focused on her.
Liu Chengxu said, “There are some in my major, many in the library, and also some in the clubs.”
Su Zhiluo asked, “What kind of people are they?”
Liu Chengxu: “I don’t want to say.”
Su Zhiluo asked directly, “Why?”
Because if she told her, Su Zhiluo would say, they are all pretty good, better than me. You should date these people. You’ll know if you try. She knew her sister-in-law too well. Independent. She yearned for that highly educated life and thought she should live that way herself.
Over the years, Su Zhiluo hadn’t put much pressure on her, but she had always worked hard to push her toward the clouds.
Liu Chengxu said, “They’re not very nice. They only pursue me because they think I’m pretty; their hearts aren’t sincere.”
Su Zhiluo didn’t quite believe her. “Are college students still like that?”
Liu Chengxu: “Aren’t all high-IQ criminals college students? Going to school only selects for learning ability and intelligence, not for character and values. There are wicked people everywhere in college. There were even hidden cameras before, people who are beasts in human skin. All sorts of crimes, like love murders and drug killings, a whole bunch.”
Su Zhiluo’s scalp tingled upon hearing this. She said, “That’s unacceptable.”
She was more curious about the “hidden camera” incident and asked a couple more questions.
Liu Chengxu explained that the school’s attitude was ambiguous. Outsiders online weren’t clear, but everyone inside the school knew. It was a person with connections, and they had a good relationship with the department head. The current handling method was just one word: delay.
Delay until everyone forgets about it, and the matter would be over, depending on whether anyone in the school decides to leak the information.
Su Zhiluo checked on her phone. Indeed, most of the content had been deleted. This conversation also made Su Zhiluo worry. She had thought Liu Chengxu would have a college romance, where they would have similar educational backgrounds and common topics in the future.
Liu Chengxu said, “And dating now also depends on material conditions. You need to have good family conditions. Someone like me, as soon as people hear my parents are on the list of defaulters, without a house, a car, or savings, the relationship won’t last long.”
Su Zhiluo suddenly understood. Yes, reality had to be considered. She also started worrying about Liu Chengxu being looked down upon.
“What should we do then?” Su Zhiluo sighed. She wanted to say, Maybe, maybe you’ll meet someone like your sister.
Liu Chengxu quipped, “Then we’ll keep it in-house.”
Su Zhiluo fell silent, saying nothing.
Since Liu Chengxu came here, she would occasionally say radical things that made Su Zhiluo uncomfortable, as they contained too much resentment. Liu Chengxu resented her cruelty, her abandonment of her.
Liu Chengxu voluntarily brought up something, “Your family sent a letter here. Aunt Zhang gave it to me, but I didn’t read it, I tore it up.”
“Okay, let’s sleep,” Su Zhiluo wasn’t curious. If the conversation continued, she would definitely start worrying about Liu Chengxu’s future dating and marriage.
Liu Chengxu lay on her back on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
The room was extremely hot, and even her body felt like it was melting from the high temperature. The air blown out by the fan was about the same temperature as the room; it was less cooling than soaking in cold water.
She simply sat up, picked up the remote, and turned off the buzzing air conditioner. Then, she sat cross-legged on the edge of the bed. Su Zhiluo heard the noise and turned her head to look at her, “Is it very hot?”
Liu Chengxu didn’t make a sound.
Su Zhiluo hadn’t had much money when she first arrived and wasn’t sure what kind of success the shop would have. This area was cheap, so she rented it for six months directly. She was about to say, “I’ll go buy an air cooler tomorrow.”
These past few days, Su Zhiluo had worried that Liu Chengxu might secretly kiss her at night as she did before. Fortunately, Liu Chengxu hadn’t done that, and she thought leaving had helped a little.
Unexpectedly… Liu Chengxu had changed. She was very restrained, restrained for two months, but when she couldn’t hold it anymore, she did it directly while Su Zhiluo was awake.
Liu Chengxu propped her hands on either side of Su Zhiluo’s neck, trapping her underneath. Su Zhiluo instinctively tried to dodge, but Liu Chengxu’s grip was firm and strong, making it impossible for her to move.
Liu Chengxu’s lips moved slightly, and she silently called out “Sister-in-law.”
Su Zhiluo lay flat, her chest rising and falling violently. She couldn’t tell if it was anger or shyness; her face was flushed crimson. She said, “You… get off me…”
“I bought a ticket,” Liu Chengxu slowly articulated the words. “I’ll be going back in three days.”
Su Zhiluo choked.
She had been so busy she almost forgot that Liu Chengxu was going back to school soon.
Su Zhiluo suddenly felt quite sorry for her. Liu Chengxu had been working for her here the whole time and hadn’t gotten to have any fun. Su Zhiluo said, “I’ll give you ten thousand yuan. Keep it for yourself… think of it as your earnings.”
“No,” Liu Chengxu didn’t like that at all.
“Then do you want…” Su Zhiluo almost blurted out “what do you want” but stopped herself. “Should I buy you something?”
Liu Chengxu lowered her head, her burning face pressing against Su Zhiluo’s cheek. Her voice was very low. She said, “Just once, will you let me… just once? You clearly know what I want.”
Su Zhiluo understood what she was saying. She wanted Liu Chengxu to stop this. She twisted her body, wanting to escape. Liu Chengxu’s hand pressed down on her arm. “Just once… I’ll just kiss you. After this, I won’t come back in the second half of the year. I’ll be obedient… please.”
Su Zhiluo’s whole body tensed up. As Liu Chengxu spoke, her lips had already brushed against her cheek. Liu Chengxu said, “I won’t turn on the light.”
Su Zhiluo bit her teeth hard. Damn it, she wasn’t 100% rejecting her; a few strands of thought actually wanted to agree. Her reason still prevailed, trying to bring Liu Chengxu back to her senses. “Liu Chengxu, this is wrong. I’m your sister-in-law…”
“But my sister is dead. She’s already dead.” Liu Chengxu’s voice trembled, sounding like an accusation. Su Zhiluo squeezed her eyes shut tightly, reopening them filled with tears. “No, get off me…”
Liu Chengxu gently bumped her shoulder repeatedly with her head, helpless and in great pain. “This is no good… It’s like this every day. Every morning I tell myself I don’t love you anymore, but the next second it’s impossible. Su Zhiluo, it’s not just my fault.”
Su Zhiluo remained silent.
“Please stop thinking about her, alright?”
Liu Chengxu’s eyes were red, extremely hurt.
This time, she didn’t wait for a response, lowering her head directly to seal Su Zhiluo’s lips, blocking all rejection in the warm contact.
The kiss lasted extraordinarily long. Su Zhiluo tried to struggle but gradually went limp from lack of oxygen, slumping down like a stranded fish.
With their eyes locked, she lightly kissed those reddened lips again.
Her hands were still tightly gripping Su Zhiluo’s wrists, only slightly relaxing when her gaze shifted downward. Her fingertips slid under the hem of the clothes, moving slowly upward, stopping just above the chest.
Su Zhiluo was afraid. She gasped urgently, “Stop… Get off me, Liu Chengxu!”
Liu Chengxu withdrew both hands.
Su Zhiluo’s eyes were completely red. She was very hurt, and Liu Chengxu could see her pain.
Liu Chengxu had expected her to close her eyes, but Su Zhiluo spoke. Her voice was severely hoarse, “I’m… I’m sorry.”
She then whispered something that utterly broke Su Zhiluo.
“Sister-in-law, I… I saw it once.”
Su Zhiluo didn’t want to listen.
Liu Chengxu wanted to speak but dared not. Her voice was low, and she only said part of it.
“Once… I tasted it once…”
Su Zhiluo was wearing a pink floral bra, very summery. Her bust was very full, fair, and emitting a fresh scent of milk.
Liu Chengxu lowered her head and kissed her.
