- Billionaire’s Journey into the Beast World, Suitors Compete to Be Fed by Her!
- Chapter 71 - Double Trouble
“You don’t need to worry about that. I already have a plan. In a while, I’ll lead the clan to the inland sea to trade for salt, and Mi Yue will come with me. I’ll take the opportunity to bring back a lion cub. The shaman also has ways to alter its aura.”
Claude’s tone carried an unshakable confidence.
Vasali, seeing Claude so resolute, felt even more jealous.
But she knew her brother had truly set his heart on that little black-haired female. Pushing back now would only create a rift between them.
So, she changed her tactics. “Brother, why go through all this trouble? Wouldn’t it be better to find a female you truly love and have a child that’s truly yours?”
Claude sighed, his gaze softening. “When I meet a female I love, I’ll mate with her.”
Seeing this, Vasali knew further persuasion was futile. She stormed off in frustration.
Returning to her stone house, she found Xiu Ka kneeling numbly at the entrance, his eyes filled with despair and pain.
Vasali’s anger found its outlet. She walked up to Xiu Ka and sneered,
“Xiu Ka, it seems your mate is truly blessed. It hasn’t been long since I brought her to Lion City, and she’s already carrying my brother’s cub. Seems her feelings for you weren’t that deep after all.”
At her words, Xiu Ka’s body trembled violently, his head hanging low in silence.
Vasali let out a cold laugh, deliberately provoking him. “What? Don’t want to admit it? But no matter how much you deny it, this is the truth.”
“You love her so much, you were willing to lower yourself for her sake. And her? While you were suffering, she was getting cozy with my brother, mating and bearing his child.”
Xiu Ka knelt on the cold stone floor. The night wind swept through the hall, bringing a chill that paled in comparison to the icy despair in his heart.
The moonlight bathed his solitary figure, casting a long shadow, a reflection of the endless loneliness within him.
The scene from the banquet was seared into his mind, impossible to shake.
He remembered clearly how Claude had held Mi Yue’s hand tightly, his face brimming with happiness.
At that moment, Xiu Ka’s heart felt as though it had been wrenched apart.
Seeing Xiu Ka’s reddened eyes, on the verge of tears, Vasali grew even more pleased.
She reached out to touch him, but Xiu Ka jerked away.
Vasali’s expression darkened instantly. She slapped Xiu Ka across the face and hissed through gritted teeth, “Xiu Ka, one day I’ll make you submit. For now, keep kneeling.”
“I’ll make sure you understand the consequences of betraying me.”
The commotion here was nothing compared to the turmoil on Mi Yue’s side.
[Host, the food in front of you is poisoned! Proceed with caution!]
The sudden warning from the system made Mi Yue’s expression turn grave.
She had expected Mikayla to make a move against her, but she hadn’t thought he’d poison her food so soon.
Sitting at the wooden table, Mi Yue lightly traced the rim of the cold stone bowl, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes.
This Mikayla was far too impatient.
Now she was certain, Claude’s uncle truly meant him harm.
Taking a deep breath, she steadied herself before turning to the beast servant outside the door and saying softly, “Go fetch the city lord. Tell him I ate something unclean and my stomach hurts.”
The beast servant’s expression changed slightly upon hearing this, but knowing the severity of the situation, he dared not delay and hurried away.
Before long, Claude arrived at the stone house with several beast servants and a physician. Seeing that Mi Yue was unharmed, he finally relaxed.
With a wave of his large hand, he commanded, “The physician stays. Everyone else, leave.”
His gaze swept quickly across the room before settling on Mi Yue’s furrowed brow and the untouched bowl of food. His face darkened instantly.
“What happened?” Claude’s voice carried undisguised concern.
Mi Yue looked up, meeting his eyes, a complex emotion flashing in her gaze.
“Someone poisoned my food.” Since becoming pregnant, her appetite had increased. Even after dinner, she still needed to eat something before bed.
Claude’s brow furrowed, anger flickering in his eyes.
He turned and called for Lazarus, issuing an order. “Seal off the stone house immediately and investigate this thoroughly. Interrogate every beast servant in the household, no one is to be spared.”
Lazarus obeyed and left, leaving only three people in the room.
“Physician, examine Mi Yue. Make sure her child is unharmed.”
The physician, tense and cautious, carefully checked Mi Yue’s pulse.
Only after confirming that both Mi Yue and her unborn child were safe did Claude finally relax.
He walked to Mi Yue’s side, his tone softening. “Mi Yue, don’t worry. As long as I’m here, I’ll protect you.”
Mi Yue nodded lightly, though worry still lingered in her eyes.
“I suspect this has something to do with your second uncle. He may have deeper schemes.” she whispered.
A cold glint flashed in Claude’s eyes at her words.
“If Second Uncle dares to harm you again, I won’t let him off easily.”
After a moment of contemplation, he added, “But for now, we must keep this quiet. Once I gather evidence, I’ll have him arrested.”
Mi Yue nodded in agreement. The two exchanged a knowing smile, each already forming plans in their minds.
However, not long after Claude returned to his own stone house, an unexpected incident occurred. He clutched his chest, his face pale and his breathing labored, symptoms of an asthma attack.
The beast servants panicked at the sight, shouting for a physician.
“Lazarus, you stay.” Claude’s voice, though weak, carried an undeniable authority.
Lazarus, one of Claude’s most trusted beast servants, immediately stepped forward to support his swaying master, his eyes filled with concern.
“Master, you’re-”
Before Lazarus could finish, Claude cut him off, a steady determination in his gaze. “I’m fine. Watch secretly and see who leaves in the chaos, especially those who might report to Second Uncle.”
Lazarus understood and nodded. Though puzzled, he knew better than to question his master’s wisdom.
Meanwhile, the physician was urgently summoned. After a thorough examination, he gravely prescribed medicine, though in truth, he and Claude had already silently agreed to stage a “false illness, real treatment” act.
Elsewhere, Mikayla’s deep eyes gleamed with ruthlessness as his fingers tapped lightly on the table, each tap seemingly counting the steps toward victory.
A cold smile curled his lips as he murmured, “He’s fallen for it. Finally, it’s time to eliminate Claude. The city lord’s seat will soon be mine.”
He turned to a trusted beast servant beside him and ordered, “Go. Summon the male spy planted near Claude. I have an important task for him.”
Soon, a lean and cunning-looking spy servant hurried over.
He knelt before Mikayla and asked respectfully, “Second Elder, what are your orders?”
Mikayla lowered his voice and said, “I want you to add this vial of deadly poison to Claude’s medicine. Remember to do it cleanly and swiftly, don’t let them discover it.”
With that, he took out a pitch-black vial of poison from his sleeve and handed it to the man.
