- Chapter 67 - Xiu Ka Breaks Out in a Rash
Xiu Ka answered coldly, his emotions stabilizing almost instantly as he composed his expression completely.
[Host, Xiu Ka’s emotions have returned to normal.]
“Oh? That was quick.”
Mi Yue was slightly surprised.
But she didn’t dwell on it. Xiu Ka wasn’t far away, and running into him would only make her uncomfortable. It was best to leave as soon as possible.
“Claude, let’s not stay here anymore. I’m a little tired.”
Mi Yue tugged at Claude’s sleeve.
“Alright, I’ll take you back to rest.”
Claude followed Mi Yue as they left.
“They’re leaving already? How boring.”
Vasali also found it dull and took Xiu Ka away with her.
She led him back to her stone house and gave him a light push.
“Go wash up quickly and get ready. We’re going to mate.”
The moment Vasali spoke, Xiu Ka’s expression darkened.
“What? You’re not willing? I went through so much trouble to find you and bring you back to Lion City just so we could mate and pair up.”
“Enough, don’t waste time. I can’t wait any longer, hurry up and go.”
Vasali waved him off, and Xiu Ka turned to open the door and leave.
A sense of urgency crept into Xiu Ka’s heart. Though he had agreed to pair up with Vasali, he had no intention of letting her become his true mate.
No, he had to find a way to escape this predicament.
Suddenly, he spotted some plants in the nearby grass, a toxic variety that would cause a rash if applied to the skin.
If his entire body broke out in rashes, Vasali surely wouldn’t force him to mate.
Xiu Ka quickly plucked the plants, crushed them roughly in his hands, and smeared them all over himself.
Almost immediately, his skin began to itch unbearably, and within moments, large red rashes erupted across his body, looking horrifying.
Satisfied with the result, Xiu Ka even felt a flicker of relief as he pushed the door open.
“Something’s wrong, I think I’ve broken out in a rash.”
“What?”
Vasali whipped her head around and, sure enough, saw the terrifying red rashes covering Xiu Ka’s body.
“How did this happen? Did you do this on purpose to avoid mating with me?”
Vasali saw right through his trick and was furious.
Xiu Ka remained silent, tacitly admitting it.
“Fine. If you won’t speak, I’ll take that as confirmation. Now get out and kneel outside.”
Xiu Ka turned and left the stone house, kneeling on the ground outside.
Many beast servants passing by witnessed the scene and whispered among themselves.
“Good heavens, his body is covered in huge red rashes, it looks terrifying!”
“How did that happen? Such a severe rash…”
“Exactly! That’s why Vasali got angry and made him kneel out here.”
“Didn’t he bring this on himself? Serves him right. If he’d just obeyed Vasali, he wouldn’t be suffering like this.”
“Who knows what’s going on in his head? If he wants to kneel, let him. It’s none of our business anyway.”
The beast servants chatted as they walked away, but Xiu Ka kept his eyes closed, ignoring every word.
Mi Yue happened to pass by and saw Xiu Ka kneeling there.
“Is it worth it?”
Hearing Mi Yue’s voice, Xiu Ka abruptly opened his eyes.
Turning his head, he met her gaze directly.
But he couldn’t say anything now.
He had been kneeling for so long that his legs had gone numb, losing all sensation.
Slowly straightening his posture, he pressed his lips tightly together.
“It was worth it.”
“Worth it? Fine, what a fine ‘worth it’ indeed.”
She had protected and cared for him throughout their migration, fearing he might get hurt. And now, he willingly endured Vasali’s torment, how utterly ridiculous!
Furious, Mi Yue couldn’t bear to say another word to Xiu Ka and stormed off.
She ran to a secluded corner of the garden and sat alone, her expression desolate.
She no longer wanted to stay in Lion City. This place had the detestable Vasali and Xiu Ka, just thinking about them made her heart ache unbearably.
She desperately wanted to leave and find Xing Chi.
But why did her heart still feel so heavy?
“Mi Yue.” A gentle voice called from behind.
Turning around, she saw Claude standing there, looking at her with soft eyes.
Compared to Xiu Ka’s cold indifference, Claude’s tenderness felt like a sharp blade, making her realize just how unwanted she was in Xiu Ka’s eyes.
She forced a smile, trying to appear unaffected as she greeted Claude.
Claude studied her for a moment before walking over and sitting beside her. He unwrapped something carefully bundled in leaves, revealing two bright red fruits.
As soon as they were uncovered, the rich fragrance of the fruit wafted into the air, tantalizing the senses.
“These fruits are very sweet. Try one.”
Mi Yue knew just how precious such fruits were in the Beast World. Only someone like the city lord could obtain them.
But to her, these fruits were nothing special. She didn’t intend to take them, but Claude insisted. Reluctantly, she picked one up and took a bite.
The sweetness instantly spread across her tongue.
Claude smiled at her. “Feeling better now?”
Mi Yue paused, realizing Claude must have witnessed the earlier scene. A wave of sorrow surged within her, and hot tears spilled down her cheeks.
She quickly lowered her head, wiping them away, not wanting to embarrass herself in front of others.
Claude gently patted her shoulder. “Remember what I told you? Don’t waste your sadness on someone who isn’t worth it.”
Mi Yue didn’t want to dwell on it and changed the subject. “How have you been lately? Has your asthma acted up again?”
Claude hesitated for a moment, understanding her intent, and went along. “I’ve been much better. No recent attacks.”
“That’s good.” Mi Yue nodded, slightly relieved. Then she added, “About the flowers, what’s your plan? I think it’s best to investigate thoroughly. If it was deliberate, if someone knew about your asthma and still sent those flowers, then they must have ulterior motives. If they failed once, they’ll surely try again. Only by understanding their goal can we guard against it.”
A shadow flickered briefly in Claude’s eyes before vanishing.
He nodded. “I understand. I’ve already sent someone to look into it. Thank you for your concern.”
A few days later, Lion City held a grand banquet.
The banquet table was laden with all sorts of game. The males and young females chatted and laughed merrily. Claude sat at the head of the table, his chin resting on his right hand, his face expressionless. Though he appeared stern, his thoughts had wandered far away.
At that moment, the middle-aged male who had been conversing with others suddenly turned his head and smiled at Claude. “Claude,” he said, “I’ve prepared a gift for you. I hope you’ll like it.”
The banquet hall fell silent in an instant, all eyes turning toward them.
Claude quickly snapped back to attention and regarded his uncle, Mikayla, with a composed expression. A faint smile played on his lips as he replied, “You’re too kind, Uncle.”
