Becoming the Runaway Little Wife of the Domineering CEO - Chapter 26
Fu Mang led Yin Shuang to a high-end private club. It was early morning, so the place was virtually deserted. Since they still had to head to the office after their chat, Fu Mang decided against a private room and settled for a quiet corner by the window on the first floor.
Once seated, Fu Mang shifted uncomfortably in her chair, her words coming out in stilted fragments. “So… about last night… you and I… we, uh… what happened was…”
Yin Shuang listened patiently for several minutes, waiting for her to get to the point. Seeing Fu Mang struggle, she tilted her head inquiringly. “Do you actually remember what happened last night?”
Fu Mang froze, then gave a hesitant, embarrassed nod.
Yin Shuang immediately beamed. “Oh, good! That saves me the trouble of explaining everything to you again.”
Seeing her so utterly unfazed, Fu Mang realized the girl still hadn’t fully grasped the weight of the situation. She cleared her throat, bracing herself to speak, but Yin Shuang beat her to it.
“Actually, after you went upstairs last night, I figured it out,” Yin Shuang said confidently. “Everything you said was just your way of telling me that you like me and care about me, right?”
Fu Mang: “?!?!”
Never in a million years did she expect “Jin Xiaoyu” to connect the dots so directly. Hit by a sudden “straight ball,” Fu Mang sat stunned as a crimson flush visibly spread across her face and ears.
Yin Shuang watched her with an amused grin. “Don’t be nervous. Everyone has a ‘first time’ for these things. Just bear with the awkwardness for now; you’ll get used to it.”
Wait… why does that sound so strange? Fu Mang thought, her mind momentarily drifting.
Yin Shuang leaned her elbows on the table, looking radiantly happy. Half her plan was complete; stealing the sword was now within her reach. “I thought about it all night, and I’ve decided… you’re wonderful. You’re a truly good person.”
Fu Mang: “…” Am I seriously getting the ‘Good Person’ card right now?
She stared blankly at Yin Shuang, her voice failing her. Yin Shuang paused, letting the atmosphere settle, before continuing with a bright smile, “And I happen to like good people. So, let’s be together.”
Happiness arrived with such whiplash speed that Fu Mang hadn’t even finished a coherent sentence before Yin Shuang had already officially stamped their relationship status. For a heartbeat, the soft lounge music in the club faded away. Fu Mang’s entire world narrowed down to the girl with the brilliant smile sitting across from her. A deep sense of joy surged in her chest, and she was about to let her own expression soften when reality suddenly kicked in.
Hold on.
The way Xiaoyu told it, it sounded like Fu Mang had confessed and Xiaoyu had magnanimously “chosen” her after careful consideration. While that was technically what happened last night, it was Jin Xiaoyu who had liked her first!
Fu Mang didn’t know why she was so obsessed with the “who liked whom first” hierarchy, but since they were going to be a couple, she felt it was better to clear the air now. She didn’t want to end up like those old couples in TV dramas who argued for decades about who chased whom.
President Fu was clearly playing the long game.
Fu Mang narrowed her eyes. “Jin Xiaoyu, since when did you learn how to flip the script on me?”
Yin Shuang blinked. “I didn’t.”
“Oh, please,” Fu Mang said, crossing her arms and leaning back with a superior air. “Yes, I said those things last night. But I wasn’t the one who fell first—you were. I’ve known about your little crush for ages; I just didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to bruise your ego.”
“That book, How to Quickly Win the Girl of Your Dreams—is that yours or not?”
Yin Shuang’s confusion deepened. “How did you even know I had that?”
Fu Mang looked triumphant. “I know everything about you. I can’t believe you were actually reading marketing trash like that. Those books are scams. You should have just come to me and been honest about your feelings from the start.”
Fu Mang adopted a tone of earnest, “older-and-wiser” advice, but Yin Shuang’s expression slowly shifted. She looked down, thought for a moment, and then looked back up. “When exactly did you find out?”
“Not long ago. About a week back,” Fu Mang replied casually.
As she watched Yin Shuang’s eyes widen in realization, Fu Mang suddenly realized she had just let a very important detail slip.
“A week ago?” Yin Shuang repeated slowly. “Meaning… before you went to the bar to ‘find some fun’ and before you went on that blind date?”
Fu Mang: “…”
“About that, actually—”
“You already knew, yet you still did those things,” Yin Shuang said, her voice soft but her expression heart-wrenchingly piteous. She looked so innocent that she made Fu Mang look like a heartless bully. “You were trying to provoke me. You wanted me to give up on you?”
Fu Mang found herself without a defense. “I…”
That had been her intention at the time. But who could have known it wouldn’t provoke Xiaoyu at all? Instead, it had provoked Fu Mang herself, leaving her tossing and turning for nights, her own anger and Xiaoyu’s lack of reaction keeping her awake. Fu Mang had been the one suffering, but she could never admit that—it would be way too embarrassing.

Yin Shuang didn’t scold her, but the lack of judgment only made Fu Mang more frantic. She scrambled to find an excuse, to comfort the girl, but her brain was a mess of tangled thoughts. Yin Shuang watched her with a calm, playful glint in her eyes. For some reason, she loved seeing Fu Mang flustered.
After a long silence, Fu Mang looked up only to find Yin Shuang smiling at her, clearly enjoying the “show.” Fu Mang froze, then let out a frustrated laugh. “You’re not going to deny it this time, are you? That’s twice now you’ve managed to turn the tables on me in a matter of minutes.”
Yin Shuang just smiled. Looking at her, Fu Mang realized just how much the girl loved to smile.
In the beginning, Xiaoyu had played the role of the cold, detached bodyguard. But gradually, her true nature had bubbled to the surface, and now it was on full display.
Usually, Fu Mang didn’t like it when employees smiled too much; she felt it was a sign of low intelligence. While that wasn’t true for everyone, it seemed remarkably accurate for Yin Shuang.
She was cheerful, a bit slow on the uptake, and lacked a certain “spiritual” depth. She was clever, but her cleverness was always directed at the wrong things. She was exactly the type of person Fu Mang usually avoided. And yet, she was the first person Fu Mang had ever truly fallen for.
For a moment, Fu Mang wondered what exactly she liked about Jin Xiaoyu.
It was a profound question that many happy couples never figure out. Love is often irrational. But for Fu Mang, the answer came easily.
Because… looking at her makes me feel happy.
It was a feeling that preceded her romantic feelings. Even before she knew she liked her, being around Xiaoyu made her heart lighter. The mundane tasks of her life seemed different when Xiaoyu was there. It was a subtle, flowing sense of contentment that no one else could provide.
Fu Mang reached out and tucked a stray lock of hair behind Yin Shuang’s ear. Yin Shuang let her. Out of nowhere, Fu Mang asked, “Do you like eating nuts?”
Yin Shuang blinked. “They’re alright.”
She didn’t love them, but she didn’t hate them either. She’d have a few as a snack now and then.
Fu Mang withdrew her hand. “I love them.”
In the future, she would make sure Xiaoyu loved them too. The more common interests they had, the more they’d have to talk about. Their personalities would align, their conflicts would disappear, and they would walk a long, steady path together.
She didn’t know what the distant future held, but in this moment, she wanted to stay by Jin Xiaoyu’s side forever.
Fu Mang felt a wave of tenderness and let her lips curve into a genuine smile. Then, Yin Shuang spoke with a very serious expression.
“You don’t just love nuts. You love fruit, and snacks, and basically anything you can munch on. Don’t you think you’re eating a bit too much lately? Maybe you should cut back. I have a feeling if you keep going like this, you’re going to get fat.”
Fu Mang: “…………” You’re the one who’s going to get fat!!
