Becoming the Comfort Alpha for the Aloof Movie Queen - Chapter 5
Unconcealed Closeness
Liang Ruojing became acutely aware that she was walking through the home of an Omega.
The omnipresent fragrance of lilies toyed with her nerves. She remained tense, unconsciously holding her breath. Strands of pheromones leaked in, making her feel as though her entire body and mind were stretching in relaxation.
Dr. Fang had mentioned that her compatibility with Ming Tanqing was very high.
Eighty percent?
Liang Ruojing thought of the largest number she could imagine. No wonder she liked her so much; the instinctual pull of high compatibility was truly terrifying—especially since these pheromones belonged to the idol she had always admired and yearned for.
Frankly, Liang Ruojing’s gaze was one of unconcealed intensity.
In the industry, Ming Tanqing had started at a high point and risen rapidly; most insiders only dared to admire her from a distance. Furthermore, having been in secluded treatment for two years, she hadn’t been stared at this closely in a long time.
Even more impertinent than the gaze, however, were Liang Ruojing’s pheromones. They showed no hesitation in their intimacy, boldly approaching her.
Ming Tanqing was reminded of the large golden retriever at Lin Xiuzhu’s house, which always acted this way—pouncing on her the moment it saw her, wantonly acting spoiled and begging for affection.
Before their thoughts could stray any further, they reached the medical room. Ming Tanqing stopped, hearing a sharp intake of breath from behind her.
Liang Ruojing could not hide her astonishment. When Fang Zezhi spoke of a “medical room,” she had imagined a small chamber, not an extensive collection of various functional rooms that resembled a small hospital department.
Ming Tanqing expertly entered the isolation room at the end of the corridor. Liang Ruojing followed, seeing once again a room filled with sophisticated medical instruments. Such a grand setup… Ming Tanqing’s illness might be far more serious than the typical gland diseases Liang Ruojing had imagined.
“Miss Liang? Did you hear me?” Fang Zezhi spoke up to pull the young Alpha’s thoughts back.
Liang Ruojing snapped back to reality and repeated the doctor’s words: “First, release a bit of pheromones and let’s see.”
“Correct.” Fang Zezhi nodded, leaning over to operate the medical equipment beside her.
As Liang Ruojing sat down, she looked up and saw a reflection in the glass—a face filled with extreme nervousness. She was about to wantonly release her pheromones toward an Omega, and that Omega was Ming Tanqing, a person she usually could only look up to on a screen. For the conservative Liang Ruojing, this was a bit overwhelming.
Ming Tanqing was right beside her, her long eyelashes casting fan-shaped shadows. The heating in the room was sufficient, and her thin shirt traced the lines of her beautiful, slender shoulders and back. Upon first meeting Ming Tanqing, anyone’s first impression would be “cold”—an unattainable, ethereal coldness.
Even sitting face-to-face, Liang Ruojing didn’t feel they were close. She saw that Ming Tanqing’s eyes were cool and indifferent, as if the pheromone treatment that troubled Liang Ruojing so much was trivial to her. Like a gust of cold wind, Liang Ruojing’s inexplicable agitation calmed down. If the Omega didn’t care, why should she be so hesitant?
Fang Zezhi finished adjusting the equipment. Ming Tanqing skillfully lifted her hair, and Fang Zezhi stepped forward to attach a circular sensor to Ming Tanqing’s gland. Liang Ruojing noticed Ming Tanqing shiver slightly.
Liang Ruojing quietly withdrew her gaze. …So sensitive.
“We can begin,” Fang Zezhi said, activating the pheromone concentration detector.
Ming Tanqing glanced at the Alpha beside her. Between an Alpha and an Omega with high compatibility, there was no such thing as “gradual.”
Liang Ruojing had only tentatively released a small number of pheromones, yet the numbers on the instrument instantly surged to unprecedented heights. The rich lily fragrance broke through the testing strips, and within seconds, the Omega’s pheromones filled the entire room.
Fang Zezhi was overjoyed; she hadn’t expected the effect to be this significant.
Liang Ruojing gritted her teeth, her eyes already becoming blurred. It felt like falling into a sea of lilies; every breath was filled with the Omega’s pheromones, providing an incomparable sense of sensory fulfillment. Liang Ruojing breathed deeply by instinct, the core attraction driving her to demand more. It wasn’t enough; it would never be enough.
A storm of mint-liqueur-scented wind swirled in the room. Using her body as a shield, Ming Tanqing struggled to support herself with her arms. Her long-ailed gland could not keep up with the young Alpha’s onslaught, and Ming Tanqing felt a terrifying loss of control. The pheromones that had been dormant in her body for years were suddenly awakened, crashing wildly through her system.
Ming Tanqing exerted a massive effort to keep herself from letting out a soft moan. The same heat she had felt in the car the previous night surged from the base of her spine, crackling like electricity and spreading through her body in an instant.
Her fair cheeks were flushed with passion, and her light grey-blue eyes were veiled by a layer of misty heat. Despite having a face that seemed devoid of worldly desires, she appeared twelve-tenths beautiful when moved. It was as if a white plum blossom on a branch had been plucked by an Alpha and toyed with in the palm of a hand, its petals falling and soaking into a potent mint liqueur.
Yet, Liang Ruojing saw none of this exquisite beauty. Ming Tanqing turned her head away, leaving Liang Ruojing with only a slender silhouette and ears that were turning blood-red. She refused eye contact and refused to show any vulnerability.
Liang Ruojing sensed the resistance and felt a hollow sensation in her heart. As if sensing the Alpha’s disappointment, the elegant lily fragrance wrapped around Liang Ruojing even more fervently. Liang Ruojing felt as though she saw a flower affectionately rubbing against her calf, expressing its closeness—a sharp contrast to its proud and cold owner.
Ming Tanqing was reaching her limit but dared not call for a stop. She feared that if she relaxed even slightly, a whimper would escape her lips. The two sets of pheromones blended perfectly, possessing extremely high affinity. Ming Tanqing had released a sufficient number of pheromones, and the situation was more optimistic than expected.
To prevent further fusion, Fang Zezhi called an emergency halt. Precisely because the affinity was too high, she feared Liang Ruojing’s pheromones might induce an early heat in Ming Tanqing. Ming Tanqing’s current gland was still too fragile to withstand that. They needed to observe for a while longer.
“Let’s end the first round here.”
Liang Ruojing felt a wave of relief and quickly retracted her pheromones. She had overestimated her self-control; an Omega’s pheromones were truly terrifying. She took deep breaths. Standing up, a bashful look appeared on her heroic features. “Dr. Fang, may I ask where the restroom is?”
Fang Zezhi blinked, then immediately understood the situation. She called over an assistant: “She will take you there. If you wish to take a shower, you can; we have prepared clothes here in advance.”
Prepared in advance… doesn’t that mean they expected this? Liang Ruojing didn’t dare think too deeply about it; her departing figure could be described as a frantic escape.
Ming Tanqing kept her head turned away, never making eye contact with Liang Ruojing. Only the slight trembling of the dark hair on her shoulders revealed that her heart was not as calm as her outward appearance suggested. In fact, even the outward appearance wasn’t entirely calm.
“Dr. Fang,” Ming Tanqing finally spoke.
Fang Zezhi followed the sound and was startled by the other woman’s complexion. In the two years they had known each other, when had she ever seen Miss Ming look like this? One had to remember that while Ming Tanqing looked fragile, she was a tough person who didn’t even flinch when a needle was stuck into her gland.
“How are you feeling?” Fang Zezhi asked. “Can you voluntarily retract your pheromones?”
Ming Tanqing took a deep breath, her lungs still full of the scent of mint liqueur. Shifting all her focus to the soft gland on the back of her neck, she tried. “I can.”
“And release them again?”
“I can do that too,” Ming Tanqing paused, adding, “But… Miss Liang’s pheromones haven’t fully dissipated yet. It might be the residual pheromones that are facilitating it.”
Fang Zezhi noted down this key information. Looking up again, the corners of Ming Tanqing’s eyes were still stained with a reddish hue. Noticing the doctor’s gaze, Ming Tanqing lowered her eyelashes. “Will I need to release pheromones again in a moment?”
Fang Zezhi: “No need.”
“Then—” Ming Tanqing stood up. Her legs were still a bit weak, and she swayed slightly before steadying herself. “I will go change my clothes.”
The assistant helped her upstairs. After they left, the concentration of pheromones in the isolation room remained high. Fang Zezhi turned on the ventilation system and imported the organized data into her computer. The data was looking excellent.
In just five minutes, the concentration of pheromones released by Ming Tanqing was higher than if she had been given three shots of specialized medication. Although the specific details would have to wait for further gland testing, as far as the current situation was concerned, pheromone-assisted therapy was very effective.
The long-stagnant progress on Pheromone Disorder Syndrome had finally seen a new breakthrough. Fang Zezhi smiled with relief, though her expression turned solemn in the next second. After all, everything was built on one foundation—Liang Ruojing agreeing to assist Ming Tanqing with the pheromone treatment.
Liang Ruojing first asked the assistant to take her to the restroom, but after a few steps, she changed her mind and went to the bathroom instead. The assistant handed her the pre-prepared clothes. Liang Ruojing took them and glanced at the tag; they really did match her size.
Setting the water temperature to cool, Liang Ruojing stood under the showerhead, trying to let the cool water wash away the heat inside her body. As soon as she closed her eyes, Ming Tanqing’s figure appeared clearly in her mind.
Stepping out of the intoxicating sea of lilies, Liang Ruojing’s thoughts cleared up significantly, allowing her to recall many details. Was Ming Tanqing truly unresponsive?
In her middle school biology class, the teacher had said: “Omegas, especially high-level Omegas, are much more delicate and fragile than ordinary people.”
An Omega classmate had disagreed, standing up to say: “Ming Tanqing is an S-level Omega, and I don’t think she’s fragile.”
The teacher paused, closed the textbook, and said: “A human is human because they have both a body and a spirit. The power of the spirit is not confined to the physical body; sometimes, it transcends everything.”
Liang Ruojing pushed aside the wild thoughts in her heart. To blindly assume that Ming Tanqing had no emotions or desires—wasn’t that just another form of shackles? She had seen it; Ming Tanqing had been gripping her clothes so tightly her knuckles turned white. Just like her, Ming Tanqing must have been suppressing her bodily reactions. It was normal to have physiological reactions when their compatibility was so high.
Liang Ruojing repeated this several times, as if comforting herself or perhaps brainwashing herself. It’s normal to have a reaction… it’s normal… normal…
“Damn it.”
Liang Ruojing took an unusually long shower. The assistant waited outside, fearing she might have fainted. Just as she was about to knock, the door opened. Liang Ruojing stepped out, her shoulder-length flaxen hair damp and loose. She had changed into the clothes the Ming family provided: a simple white shirt and black trousers, topped with a khaki wool coat. The matching belt was slightly tightened at the waist, highlighting her slender figure and long legs. Truly a popular young star; her few steps looked like a magazine shoot.
Under the assistant’s guidance, Liang Ruojing returned to the medical room—this time to a different room. Ming Tanqing was undergoing a gland puncture examination. Liang Ruojing watched with her own eyes as a long needle was inserted into the back of Ming Tanqing’s neck. Ming Tanqing frowned; the expression on her face was clearly one of pain, yet she didn’t make a sound.
So… impressive. Liang Ruojing fell silent. Perhaps she really shouldn’t judge Ming Tanqing by the standards of ordinary people. Then again, few mortals could ever reach Ming Tanqing’s heights. Liang Ruojing watched through the glass.
Hmm? Teacher Ming also changed her clothes. Liang Ruojing rubbed her nose and secretly sniffed the scent on herself. The freshness of mint combined with the sting of alcohol hit her; it couldn’t be called unpleasant. Teacher Ming wouldn’t dislike it, would she?
Liang Ruojing, age 23, was experiencing pheromone anxiety.
The long needle was withdrawn; the gland test was over. The assistant stepped forward, wanting to apply a bandage, but Ming Tanqing shook her head. She took the bandage and gently covered the gland herself.
Fang Zezhi came out and invited Liang Ruojing to another room. The gland test report would take half an hour to come out. Before that, she wanted to discuss the pheromone-assisted treatment further.
“Miss Liang, is now a good time?”
Liang Ruojing shifted her gaze away from the person inside the room and nodded.
