- Chapter 63 - "I Swear, If Ji Yunfei Doesn't Do What She Just Said, She'll Be at Xie Yin's Mercy!"
Chapter 63: “I Swear, If Ji Yunfei Doesn’t Do What She Just Said, She’ll Be at Xie Yin’s Mercy!”
As she spoke, the staff member handed Ji Yunfei a card with a line of text on it.
Adventurer, please briefly describe the beginning and end of the story, as well as the method used. Ji Yunfei arched her eyebrows and began organizing the information she had gathered.
“This is a limited-time opening activity; there’s a prize for the correct answer!” Seeing Ji Yunfei resting her chin on her hand in silence, the staff member blinked and added with a smile.
Hearing this, Ji Yunfei processed the information even faster. After a short moment, she spoke softly: “If my deduction is correct, the master of the manor was bitten to death by the serpent demon in the attic…”
“However, she was in a deep sleep after taking sleeping pills, which is why her expression was peaceful. The relationship between the Madam and the serpent demon must have been that of lovers. As the Madam grew older and was tormented by illness, she begged her lover to kill her…”
After finishing the brief narration of the Madam and the serpent demon, Ji Yunfei lowered her eyes, waiting for the staff member’s feedback.
“Bingo! Completely correct!” The girl snapped her fingers and pulled a card from her pocket, placing it in Ji Yunfei’s hand. “This is a lottery ticket for the Ghost Market. You can draw a prize at the center of the plaza later with this. Great prizes, 100% win rate—don’t miss it!”
“Have a great time!”
A lottery ticket…?
Ji Yunfei thanked her softly and tucked the card into her pocket. Before leaving, she leaned close to the staff member’s ear and whispered, “The quality of your props is really impressive. The tail on that serpent demon NPC was so realistic it actually startled me at first.”
With that, she turned and took Xie Yin’s hand, but she was startled by a sudden chill. “Why is it so cold?” As she spoke, she firmly wrapped both of her hands around Xie Yin’s.
Xie Yin didn’t say anything to the question. She simply crinkled her eyes and led her to an empty seat nearby.
As the two walked away hand-in-hand, the staff member finally processed what was said. She turned back to the prop room and picked up the somewhat rough cloth snake-tail cover, knitting her brows in confusion: “Is… is this considered realistic?”
After sitting down, Xie Yin asked Ji Yunfei to stay put while she got up to leave.
Not long after, she returned with two cups of pearl milk tea. “Here, your favorite: vanilla pearl milk tea, no ice, 50% sugar.”
Ji Yunfei was surprised. She hadn’t expected Xie Yin to remember her preference so perfectly from just a passing mention.
“You actually remembered my order.” Ji Yunfei took the tea, poked the straw in, and took a satisfied sip.
“Of course I’ll remember your preferences clearly.” Watching Ji Yunfei drink her tea with her cheeks puffed out like a little hamster, Xie Yin smiled and patted her head.
“Anyway, didn’t you want to know what happened after we got separated? I’ll tell you now.”
“After being discovered by the butler, I failed to escape in time, so it was counted as a mission failure. That girl and I were taken straight to the exit. However…” Xie Yin trailed off suggestively, her eyes smiling at Ji Yunfei.
“However what?”
“I watched your entire game through the monitors… I didn’t know our A-Fei was so brave and smart…” Xie Yin rested her chin on her hand, her gaze entirely fixed on Ji Yunfei.
“Ahem… it was nothing, a piece of cake.” Being praised like that made Ji Yunfei feel a bit light-headed with pride. She covered her mouth to hide her uncontrollable grin.
“By the way, regarding the story of the Madam and the serpent demon… what do you think of it?” Xie Yin suddenly asked, her eyes full of seriousness.
Meeting that gaze, Ji Yunfei lowered her eyes, her finger absentmindedly stroking her chin. After a moment of silence, she spoke slowly: “A tragedy through and through.”
She looked up into Xie Yin’s ink-black eyes and continued: “A relationship between a human and a demon is destined to be difficult… one will eventually leave, leaving the other to wait in agony.”
“It’s so unfair.”
Xie Yin nodded. “That makes sense. But don’t you think it’s actually quite nice for the one left behind to carry the evidence of their love until the very end of their life?”
Ji Yunfei shook her head in disagreement. “If that’s the case, it would be better not to fall in love at all from the start.”
Hearing this, Xie Yin’s heart went half-cold. She lowered her eyes to hide the complex emotions swirling within and asked tentatively, “Then if—I mean if—one day I also became a demon, would you still choose to walk this path with me?”
Ji Yunfei arched an eyebrow, confused by the sudden hypothetical. Seeing the intense seriousness in Xie Yin’s eyes, she couldn’t help but laugh. “Pfft! If you were a demon, I’d dump you immediately and hide in some unknown corner so you’d never find me.”
She crossed her arms with a smile, waiting for Xie Yin’s reaction. But to her surprise, the shoulders of the person with the lowered head began to tremble. Realizing something was wrong, she scrambled to sit beside Xie Yin and cupped her face.
Unexpectedly, she met a pair of eyes that were red at the corners and brimming with tears.
“I—I was joking! Don’t take it seriously… Xie Yin, good Yin-yin, don’t cry…” Ji Yunfei panicked. She never expected her offhand joke to elicit such a strong reaction.
Seeing that Xie Yin showed no sign of recovering but instead grew redder around the eyes, Ji Yunfei didn’t think twice—she pulled her firmly into a hug and gently stroked her back.
After an unknown amount of time, the trembling person in her arms finally calmed down. She pushed Ji Yunfei away slightly, her eyes still red as she sniffled. “Sorry, A-Fei, I made a fool of myself. I just couldn’t control my emotions for a second…”
Seeing Xie Yin’s pitiful state, Ji Yunfei instinctively reached out to wipe away the remaining tears. “I should be the one apologizing for my big mouth and reckless jokes.”
“I won’t leave you alone, regardless of whether you are human, ghost, or demon.”
“Of course, unless you don’t want me first…” She took Xie Yin’s left hand and pressed her lips against the “Polaris” ring on her middle finger, her gaze resolute.
She couldn’t stand seeing Xie Yin cry. Right now, she just wanted to slap her past self for speaking without thinking.
How could she say that? And how could Xie Yin actually be a demon? Even if she were, she’d be a beautiful, kind demon—the kind Ji Yunfei would want to cherish in the palm of her hand…
While she was lost in thought, Xie Yin suddenly leaned in and left a kiss on her cheek, leaving a faint red mark on her fair skin.
“Remember what you said, A-Fei. If you don’t do it, there will be a punishment.”
Seeing that Xie Yin had regained her composure, Ji Yunfei’s eyes crinkled. She held up three fingers toward the sky: “Fine, I swear. If Ji Yunfei doesn’t do what she just said, she’ll be at Xie Yin’s mercy!”
A hand covered her three upright fingers; Xie Yin placed her hand over hers and chuckled. “Dummy!”
She believed her A-Fei. She wouldn’t let her down…
Time flew, and night fell. Decorative lights along the path flickered on, instantly deepening the Halloween atmosphere.
The so-called “Ghost Market” was actually a small bazaar in the plaza. Everyone participating—vendors and tourists alike—had to wear masks to hide their true faces.
Naturally, Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin had already put on the snake-patterned masks they bought earlier. They were currently walking hand-in-hand through the crowd.
“Ouch—” Her shoulder was suddenly bumped, not too hard, but enough to make both Ji Yunfei and the person she hit cry out.
“So sorry, my apologies,” the other person spoke first, their tone full of regret. Ji Yunfei still had her eyes closed, but hearing the voice, she froze.
This voice… why does it sound exactly like a certain Chi person?
She opened her eyes and immediately spotted the person’s eye-catching blonde hair. Her face darkened as she delivered a sharp smack to the person’s head.
“Look closely at who I am! You’re never this polite to me!”
The person opposite her froze. Her pupils behind the mask contracted as her gaze swept over Ji Yunfei. Finally, her mouth fell open. “Holy crap, Feizi! What a coincidence! I can’t believe I bumped into you even with masks on!”
She pulled the person standing beside her toward Ji Yunfei and introduced her: “My girlfriend, Qin Qing.”
“And this is my best friend, Ji Yunfei.” When Qin Qing heard her name, Ji Yunfei caught a flash of startled recognition in her eyes, though it was quickly masked.
Dressed in casual denim with her hair in a bun, Qin Qing proactively reached out, her voice soft and sweet: “Hello, I am Qin Qing. It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Ji.” She emphasized the words “Miss Ji” slightly, and Ji Yunfei caught the hint.
Seeing Qin Qing pretend they didn’t know each other, Ji Yunfei played along. “Nice to meet you, Miss Qin.” She reached out for a brief, shallow handshake.
Sensing the atmosphere turning strangely awkward, Chi Chang opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, Qin Qing took her arm and said coquettishly, “Sister, can we go look over there?”
“Okay, we’ll head out first then.” Chi Chang couldn’t resist that tone. She patted Qin Qing’s head dotingly and gave a slight nod to Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin.
“Alright, have fun.” Ji Yunfei nodded, watching them disappear into the distance. She also caught Chi Chang’s signal—the blonde was waving her phone behind her back, clearly indicating they should chat on WeChat later.
“The person with Chi Chang… was that Qin Qing?” Xie Yin’s sudden voice startled Ji Yunfei. She pursed her lips and nodded slowly. “Yes. It’s a bit complicated… so I can’t reveal too much.”
“A secret?”
“Yes, a secret.”
“A-Fei actually has a little secret from me now… I’m a bit sad. What should I do?”
Seeing Xie Yin’s aggrieved look, Ji Yunfei couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s not just my secret; it’s Chi Chang’s too. So to tell you, I’d need her permission.”
“However, to soothe your sadness, I can promise you one small request.” As she spoke, she reached out and pinched Xie Yin’s cheek, laughing happily.
“Anything? Even being your slave?”
“Anything.”
I’ve already been your slave this whole time…
“Then I’ll have to think about it… let’s save it for now.” Xie Yin turned her head, her voice muffled.
“You can redeem it anytime. Remember to tell me when you’ve decided, Yin-yin.”
“I know.” Being called that made Xie Yin shrink her head back, her voice soft. Fortunately, it was dark, otherwise Ji Yunfei would have seen her reddened cheeks.
The two walked hand-in-hand through the crowd. Every corner was bustling and noisy. Ji Yunfei’s interest was piqued, and she pulled Xie Yin to look at various stalls.
“You two over there—” A shout came from nearby. Both turned toward the source and saw a gray-haired vendor wearing a bat mask waving at them.
“Us…?” Ji Yunfei arched her eyebrow, pointing at herself and Xie Yin in confusion.
“Yes, you! Come here, come here!”
