Beauty Snake - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Chi Chang Moonlights As A relationship Guru
Chang-Chang-Chang: “Wait for me at the company entrance, my dear Feizi~”
FFF: “OK”
The moment the clock hit the end of the workday, Chi Chang’s message arrived. Ji Yunfei replied and quickly headed for the elevator bank.
Ding~ The elevator arrived.
The sliding doors opened slowly to reveal a tall, slender figure. Ji Yunfei looked up and met Xie Yin’s eyes, which were as calm and waveless as an ancient well.
“Oh? Back to that “do not approach” look again?” Ji Yunfei raised an eyebrow slightly, teasing her internally.
Suddenly, the crowd in front of the elevator surged. People jostled against one another like a wave, and before Ji Yunfei could dodge, she was swept into the elevator. By sheer coincidence, she was squeezed right up against Xie Yin, her back pressed firmly against the other woman’s front.
The breath exhaled by the person behind her naturally fanned across her ear. It was quite hot, and Ji Yunfei couldn’t help but flush crimson, trying to put some distance between them. However, restricted by the tiny space where everyone was packed like sardines, she couldn’t move and had to endure it passively…
Ji Yunfei could only close her eyes resentfully, wishing the elevator would move faster.
“Hiss—” Suddenly, her waist was lightly pinched by a certain someone’s mischievous hand. Ji Yunfei let out an involuntary soft cry.
The people around them noticed the commotion and turned their heads to look at her.
“Hehe… it’s nothing, it’s nothing…” Ji Yunfei put on an awkward smile and tried to brush it off.
Only when the others’ gazes finally left her did she dare to turn her head and glare hatefully at a certain Ms. Xie behind her, who was currently feigning innocence.
Ding~ The elevator reached the first floor. The people around them filtered out one by one until only Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin remained. She felt the air become significantly fresher.
“Is CEO Xie playing the hooligan in the elevator?”
“Isn’t that a bit much?” The two walked out of the elevator one after the other. Ji Yunfei crossed her arms, speaking through gritted teeth.
“Me?” The person behind her was still acting, her tone full of confusion. “I didn’t realize CEO Xie liked playing dumb so much.”
“Oh… alright… I apologize.”
“You were so close, I really couldn’t help it…” Xie Yin’s face maintained her usual stoic mask, but her voice carried a slightly coy, “soft-girl” lilt.
“Hmph, don’t let there be a next time.” Ji Yunfei took the “olive branch” and stopped pressing the issue.
“Going home? Take my car?” After they had walked in silence to the company entrance, Xie Yin took the initiative to speak.
“No, I have plans.” Ji Yunfei deliberately didn’t mention she was waiting for Chi Chang, secretly curious about Xie Yin’s reaction.
“Okay…” Xie Yin nodded and turned to leave, but paused after a few steps, finally asking awkwardly:
“With whom…?”
Beep-beep-beep—! Before Ji Yunfei could answer, a piercing car horn sounded beside them.
Without even turning her head, Ji Yunfei could see Chi Chang’s flashy red convertible in her peripheral vision.
“Hey, CEO Xie? What a coincidence!” From the driver’s seat, Chi Chang leaned toward the window, brushing a few stray hairs off her forehead as she greeted Xie Yin.
“Yes, quite a coincidence, Director Chi.” Xie Yin nodded, her expression back to its usual coldness.
“Feizi, shall we go?” Chi Chang patted the steering wheel and looked at Ji Yunfei.
“Mmm.” Ji Yunfei nodded and looked at Xie Yin to say goodbye, but her sleeve was caught before she could speak.
“You and Chi Chang?”
“Take a guess…” Ji Yunfei “swatted” away the hand holding her sleeve and winked at Xie Yin, leaving behind those three ambiguous words.
Thump— “Let’s go.”
“You got it—!”
“CEO Xie, we’re heading out first!”
Once in the car, Ji Yunfei signaled Chi Chang with her eyes to drive off quickly. Chi Chang understood perfectly, gave a polite goodbye to Xie Yin with a smile, and started the engine.
As the car sped up, Ji Yunfei watched Xie Yin through the rearview mirror. The tall figure grew smaller and smaller until it disappeared completely. Only then did Ji Yunfei look away.
“Hey, tell me, what’s the deal between you and Xie Yin?”
“Don’t give me that ‘ordinary boss and subordinate’ crap; you can tell that lie to a ghost.”
“Did you not notice how sticky the gaze she had on you was…?”
Chi Chang kept her eyes on the road, but Ji Yunfei could still sense the immense gossip-mongering intent in her.
“Mmm…” “She’s pursuing me.”
Pfft—! As soon as Ji Yunfei spoke, the mouthful of water Chi Chang had just taken almost sprayed everywhere.
“Wait, did I miss a whole season? How is she pursuing you?”
“Ji Yunfei… you’ve kept me in the dark so well…” Chi Chang pouted and gave Ji Yunfei a sharp poke in the side.
“Ow—!”
“I didn’t mean to keep it from you, it’s just that nothing is certain yet…”
“It wasn’t the right time.” Ji Yunfei lowered her gaze, her tone unreadable.
“What do you call this? Complaining about good fortune?”
“An absolute beauty like Xie Yin is chasing you, and you’re actually hesitating?” Chi Chang clicked her tongue, her eyes full of disdain.
“Let’s talk about this when we get home… focus on driving.” Ji Yunfei chose to cut the topic off firmly, leaning back and closing her eyes as if to nap.
“Tsk, you rascal.” Seeing her friend like this, Chi Chang shook her head and focused on the road.
“Hey, wake up, we’re here.” Ji Yunfei was shaken awake. She had intended to fake sleep to avoid the topic, but she had actually fallen asleep.
“Mm… let’s go. I’ll take you to see Heihe.”
“Quick, quick, quick! I can’t wait to see baby Heihe!”
Click— “Meow~” As soon as the door opened, a sweet, high-pitched kitten meow came from inside the house.
“Baby Heihe~ let your auntie see you~” As soon as she stepped inside, Chi Chang used her high-pitched “baby voice” and started searching for the kitten.
“Are you trying to scare someone to death with that voice?” “He’s over here.”
Ji Yunfei pulled Chi Chang into the guest room. Upon entering, they saw the tiny black puffball lying in a cat bed behind a small playpen.
“Aww—!”
“Such a tiny, cute baby~” Chi Chang rushed to the pen, her eyes full of maternal affection.
Seeing visitors, the little puffball rose from the bed, shook itself, and walked toward the pen with unsteady kitten steps.
“Meow~” Heihe’s tail was held high as he rubbed against the pen, meowing at them again. Chi Chang looked as if her heart was about to melt. She carefully scooped Heihe into her arms and gently stroked his head.
“This reminds me of my baby… she was this cute when she was little…”
“Heihe’s eyes still have that blue kitten film…”
“You know, my baby’s eyes were a very clear, transparent blue…”
“It was because of those eyes that I felt the urge to bring her home…”
At the mention of her long-haired calico, Chi Chang’s eyes were full of nostalgia, but it was quickly replaced by loneliness. “I just can’t find her… and I’ll never see those eyes that were purer blue than sapphires again…”
Ji Yunfei patted Chi Chang’s shoulder gently and said softly: “Don’t be sad…”
“Hey! Your tears are dripping on my Heihe!!” Ji Yunfei rescued Heihe from Chi Chang’s embrace and gave Chi Chang’s head a light smack.
“Ow—you’re so heartless…”
“Can’t you let me be sentimental for a little longer…” Chi Chang clutched her head, putting on an exaggerated, theatrical act.
“Give it a rest. If you want to hold Heihe, do it properly. Go on, sit in the living room.” Seeing Chi Chang back to herself, Ji Yunfei handed Heihe back and ushered her to the sofa.
“Hey… can you tell me what’s going on with you and Xie Yin now?” Once her emotions were settled, Chi Chang’s gossip soul was reignited. She leaned back on the sofa, petting Heihe as she spoke with a smirk.
“Ahem…”
“It’s a long story…”
“……”
“Mmm… can I offer my viewpoint?” After hearing Ji Yunfei’s story, Chi Chang fell silent for a moment before speaking slowly.
“Just say it, no need to ask.”
“Ahem…”
“Ji Yunfei, you blockhead, what on earth are you hesitating for?”
“Xie Yin has chosen you so resolutely, yet you’re here worrying about this and that.”
“You’re basically ‘stringing her along’ right now, do you understand?”
“Let me tell you, if you keep avoiding her and don’t give a straight response, you’re headed for a ‘chasing-the-wife-at-the-crematorium’ disaster!”
As soon as Chi Chang opened her mouth, she gave Ji Yunfei a verbal “dog-blood” drenching. To this, Ji Yunfei could only take it all, because everything Chi Chang said was the truth…
“I…”
“You what? You big-headed ghost!”
“Just say it, do you like Xie Yin?”
“Yes.”
“Does she like you?”
“Mmm…”
“Then that’s it! I’m telling you, people should follow their hearts…”
“If you’re always worrying about the unknown and things that haven’t happened yet, you’ll never be happy in this life.”
“So, it wouldn’t be bad to give it a try with her, would it?”
“I understand…” Ji Yunfei nodded, responding in a low voice. Chi Chang was right… she should follow her heart. She liked Xie Yin, and Xie Yin liked her; why not try? Instead of worrying about things that might not happen, it was better to enjoy the present…
Ding—! Two phone notification sounds rang out simultaneously. Ji Yunfei and Chi Chang looked at each other and opened their phones.
“Design Department Head: All departments take note. Per superior notice, the company will begin a team-building event next Wednesday. The destination is the Mount Mingyang Resort, lasting for five days. If you cannot attend due to special circumstances, please report promptly.”
“Looks like the company really did sign a lot of big contracts lately…” “Mount Mingyang… we can soak in the hot springs at the resort hotel there~”
“Watching the sunrise is also good… right?” Chi Chang’s voice was full of excitement as she gave Heihe a deep sniff. Human and cat both flopped onto the sofa.
“Going to Mount Mingyang…”
“Maybe… I should respond to Xie Yin then?”
“Feizi? Ji Yunfei!” Seeing Ji Yunfei dazed, Chi Chang called out louder, snapping her back to reality.
“Huh? Oh, Mount Mingyang is pretty good… Xie Yin has good taste in locations…”
Knock, knock, knock— An irregular knocking sound came from the front door.
“I’ll get it!” Chi Chang bounded off the sofa and trotted to the door, still clutching Heihe. She didn’t open it immediately but peeked through the peephole.
Suddenly, the air went quiet. Chi Chang froze on the spot, making no further move. After a while, she slowly turned her head to look at Ji Yunfei, her eyes filled with thick confusion.
“In this day and age… even cats know how to knock on doors?”
