Beauty Snake - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: A Woman Like a Narcissus Actually Wants to Eat Me?
“A-Fei… A-Fei…”
In the distance was a blurry figure lying on her side. Only the voice could be heard; the face remained unseen.
Ji Yunfei rubbed her eyes, trying hard to see clearly, but it was in vain. Even so, she could tell it was a deeply attractive woman with raven hair like a waterfall, cascading down to her waist. Her blue-black cheongsam was embroidered with blooming yellow narcissus flowers.
The dress seemed custom-made, tracing the graceful curves of her body perfectly.
A woman as arrogant and mysterious as a narcissus.
That was the best description Ji Yunfei could conjure.
“Where am I? Is this a dream?” Ji Yunfei was bewildered. She didn’t think she was that thirsty to be having a dream like this.
“A-Fei… come here…”
The woman in the distance propped her head up with one hand while carelessly beckoning with her index finger.
Before Ji Yunfei could react, her legs began to move forward uncontrollably. The blurry figure expanded in her vision, slowly becoming distinct. She stopped only when she was barely three feet away from the woman.
Upon seeing the woman’s face clearly, Ji Yunfei’s breath hitched. Her pupils dilated, making no effort to hide the sheer awe in her eyes. The woman before her had her eyes closed, her eyelashes trembling slightly with her breath.
But the first thing one noticed was the half-face mask she wore. Carved into the mask were golden snakes. Looking at the mask, Ji Yunfei felt a wave of inexplicable irritability. She simply wanted to toss that meddlesome mask aside to behold the woman’s full beauty.
As if possessed, Ji Yunfei involuntarily reached out her hand to remove the mask. Just as her fingers were less than a centimeter away, the eyes beneath the mask slowly opened, accompanied by a light flutter of the lids.
Ji Yunfei froze, her hand stuck awkwardly in mid-air.
They were a pair of pale green eyes, brimming with a misty light, yet they felt like black holes threatening to suck Ji Yunfei in and drown her forever. Just as Ji Yunfei’s short-circuited brain was trying to reboot, a cold, soft sensation on her hand sent a jolt through her entire body.
She looked down. The moment she saw what was on her hand, her body began to tremble uncontrollably. Her mouth hung open, but she couldn’t utter a single word.
It was a snake’s tongue. A forked tongue flickering out from the woman’s mouth.
Struggling to suppress the rising surge of terror, Ji Yunfei slowly raised her eyes again. The gaze that had been full of deep affection and watery tenderness had, at some point, turned into a pair of vertical slits, staring at her coldly as if she were prey.
Seeing that she had been found out, the woman stopped pretending. With a wave of her hand, her fair, smooth legs transformed into a massive black snake tail that instantly coiled around Ji Yunfei.
“Heh…” The woman chuckled lightly against Ji Yunfei’s ear.
The breath caused the temperature of Ji Yunfei’s ear to skyrocket, her heart drumming like a war beat. Seeing Ji Yunfei in this state, the woman flicked her tongue again, licking Ji Yunfei’s face over and over.
Like she was savoring a world-class delicacy.
“You’re about to be eaten, yet you can still show such a bashful expression?” The woman’s disdainful, playful voice swirled in Ji Yunfei’s ear.
Ji Yunfei squeezed her eyes shut, her mind filled with a single thought: Wake up, wake up, wake up!
Before she was scared awake by the prospect of being swallowed into a snake’s belly, she faintly heard that melodious female voice say:
“I found you, A-Fei.”
“No!”
Ji Yunfei jerked, sitting bolt upright in bed. Finding herself safely in her room, her racing heart began to settle. She touched her forehead and felt it was clammy; turning her head, she saw her pillow was soaked with sweat.
She quickly turned on the old-fashioned fan. A cool breeze, accompanied by the “creak-creak” of the rotating blades, slowly blew over her.
“Ah, why did I dream of something like that?” Ji Yunfei covered her eyes with both hands, questioning her life choices. “Dreaming of a beauty is fine, but why did snakes have to be involved again? A snake lady… this is crazy.”
Ji Yunfei suspected she really needed to see a therapist. Her obsession with the snake lady had reached the point of “thinking of it by day, dreaming of it by night.”
Despite this, she couldn’t stop replaying the details of the dream, only to find in frustration that, aside from those pale green vertical pupils, she couldn’t remember anything else.
Failing to recall the details made her lose her temper. She ruffled her hair, got out of bed, and opened her notebook to start drawing. After ten minutes of “battle,” what remained on the page was a large green snake eye and a tiny, angry emoticon.
Having finished this, she quickly washed up and prepared to start a busy day. Being busy would stop her from overthinking.
After looking after her grandmother as usual, Ji Yunfei grabbed a bag of grain and headed toward the chicken coop. But before she even got close, she sensed something was wrong.
Usually, the coop was so noisy with clucking that it could make one dizzy from ten meters away. Today, it was eerily quiet.
At this thought, she quickened her pace and pushed open the door.
Every chicken, regardless of size, was huddled silently in the corner. They were truly “as quiet as a chicken.” Seeing Ji Yunfei, they didn’t have their usual rush for food; instead, they tucked their heads into the feathers beneath them. They seemed absolutely terrified.
Ji Yunfei frowned in confusion. She scanned the coop and found a few scattered feathers near the haystacks. Initially, she didn’t think much of it, assuming the chickens had been fighting, but then her mind flashed back to the dream.
She counted the chickens one by one. She found she was missing one hen and three chicks. Combining this with the feathers on the ground, it was clear that her coop had been visited by a “thief.” A very mischievous “thief.”
“Ah… how am I going to explain this to Grandma?” But more importantly, she had to figure out how to fill the gap. If Grandma found out, Ji Yunfei was in for a knuckle rap on the head.
“Aha! I’ve got it!”
Her eyes darted around, and she quickly clapped her hands together. She had a plan.
She acted immediately, sneaking into town to buy one new hen and five chicks. This way, there was no problem—only she, heaven, and earth would know!
The immediate problem was solved, but Ji Yunfei was certain the “thief” would return, so she decided to wait in ambush.
To her surprise, the “thief” seemed to have a third eye. Whenever Ji Yunfei stood guard, the day would be perfectly peaceful. The moment she took a break, a chick would go missing the next day, as if the thief was intentionally playing with her for amusement.
Furious, Ji Yunfei simply threw in the towel. Let it eat! Worst case scenario, she’d just keep buying replacements.
But unexpectedly, for a long time after that, the “thief” never visited again…
