Beauty Snake - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: A Love Rival is Stealing My Girl!!!
Looking at Su Yao’s curious yet concerned face, Ji Yunfei felt a wave of internal conflict. She opened her mouth, hesitated for a moment, and finally sighed, speaking slowly:
“Actually, Xie Yin… she’s more than just my boss.”
“The situation between us… is a bit complicated.”
“……”
Ji Yunfei gave a brief summary of everything from meeting Xie Yin to developing feelings for her, though she carefully omitted the part about the Beauty Snake.
After hearing the story, Su Yao’s expression flickered unnaturally, but she masked it quickly. She reached out to pat Ji Yunfei’s head, her voice soft and soothing:
“In that case… stop thinking about her. How about Sister Yao takes you around City S for some fun?”
“Stay at my place for a while, okay? That way, we can look out for each other.”
Su Yao’s voice held a hint of enticement, and there was an unreadable glint in her eyes—almost like a flash of greed.
“Eh? Won’t I be bothering you? I’d feel bad…” Ji Yunfei scratched her head. Though she was wavering, she still felt it might be inappropriate.
“Since when did we become so formal? Hmm?”
“Relax. It’s summer break, and I don’t have those little brats ‘students’ to deal with. I’m bored to death as it is.”
“You want to vent your emotions, and I need a companion. Aren’t we a perfect match?”
Seeing that Ji Yunfei was wavering, Su Yao pressed further, successfully convincing her.
“Alright, alright. Since Sister Yao has spoken, I shall obey!”
Under Su Yao’s meticulous care, Ji Yunfei was soon discharged from the hospital and its pungent smell of disinfectant. She was dying of boredom after staying there for so long.
“Wow—Sister Yao is indeed Sister Yao. You’ve got great taste!”
Following Su Yao into the apartment, Ji Yunfei was greeted by a small, cozy living room. A cream-colored sofa was accented with soft-toned pillows; a fresh bouquet of flowers sat on the coffee table, emitting a faint fragrance; and several artistic paintings hung on the walls.
If Ji Yunfei had felt a bit apprehensive before entering, she was now completely relaxed. This warm space gave her an unexpected sense of security.
“Of course. Come, I’ve already set up the guest room for you.”
Su Yao led her to the guest room. The decor was simple yet stylish. The sight of the soft, large bed made Ji Yunfei want to jump on it immediately. A fluffy blanket was folded neatly at the foot of the bed, and a small desk sat by the window, thoughtfully decorated with magazines and a vase of flowers.
“Sister Yao is so reliable—” Ji Yunfei didn’t stand on ceremony. She tossed her luggage aside and flopped onto the bed in a “starfish” pose, completely disregarding her image.
“Look at that silly face. Fine, unpack your things. Big sister is going to show off her cooking skills tonight.” Su Yao laughed at the sight of Ji Yunfei rolling around on the bed. After a few instructions, she headed into the kitchen to get busy.
Hearing the movements in the kitchen, Ji Yunfei hesitated but eventually snuck out. The moment she left the room, the aroma of meat hit her.
“OMG, it’s my favorite—the smell of Dongpo Pork!!”
Following the scent, she reached the kitchen door and saw Su Yao working hard. The woman had her sea-blue hair tied up, and tiny beads of sweat dotted her forehead.
“Sister Yao—you still know my tastes so well, hehe…” Ji Yunfei grinned, standing beside Su Yao and staring at the Dongpo Pork in the pan with sparkling eyes. She looked like a little mouse that had spotted a piece of cheese—but a very cute, harmless one.
“After four years of college, how could I not know you?” Su Yao reached out to pinch Ji Yunfei’s cheek, her tone carrying a hint of subtle, unnoticeable indulgence.
“Yes, yes, as expected of my bestie—” The thick-skinned Ji Yunfei only had eyes for the exquisite pork and didn’t catch the strange undertone in Su Yao’s voice.
As soon as the sauce thickened and the heat was turned off, Ji Yunfei proactively helped Su Yao carry the dishes to the table.
“Here, try this.” The first thing Su Yao did upon sitting down was use her chopsticks to pick up a piece of marbled pork for Ji Yunfei. She then blinked, waiting for her evaluation.
“Mmm—this is incredible!!”
“I had no idea you were such a great cook, Sister Yao!!” Ji Yunfei’s eyes were full of amazement. The melt-in-your-mouth texture of the pork made her close her eyes to savor the flavor.
“If you… like it… then eat more…” Ji Yunfei was so immersed in the food that she didn’t notice Su Yao’s sudden stutter, her drifting gaze, or her slightly flushed cheeks.
After eating her fill, Ji Yunfei insisted on doing the dishes. Su Yao couldn’t win the argument, so she let her be.
“There’s an art exhibition in the city tomorrow. Want to go together?” Su Yao suddenly stood beside Ji Yunfei as she was scrubbing, speaking softly.
“Art exhibition? Sure!” Although Ji Yunfei wasn’t particularly interested in art, she was happy to accompany Su Yao to clear her head.
“Ow—!” As she was thinking, the snake scale on her chest suddenly grew hot, making her cry out in surprise.
“What’s wrong!”
“Nothing, nothing… just my imagination…” Ji Yunfei’s heart was racing, but she pretended to be calm to reassure Su Yao. However, the hand she placed over the scale betrayed her anxious heart.
Late at night, Ji Yunfei tossed and turned, fiddling with the silver-glowing snake scale in her hand.
“You’re the one who burned me… you snake demon, you’re truly wicked…”
Hiss— As soon as the words left her mouth, the scale flared hot again as if in response. Startled, Ji Yunfei nearly threw it across the room. But after that, no matter what she said, the scale remained as silent as death.
Bored, her eyelids grew heavy and eventually began to close…
“Hey… wake up, wake up!!” A familiar voice sounded in “3D surround sound” in her ear.
“Stop it…” Ji Yunfei knitted her brows and covered her ears. The “if I can’t hear you, you don’t exist” strategy.
The Beauty Snake was back.
Perhaps because Ji Yunfei was being so stubborn, the voice faded, and silence returned. But before she could celebrate, her ear was suddenly pinched and pulled.
“Ow—!” Ji Yunfei cried out in pain and opened her eyes, immediately seeing the Beauty Snake’s annoyed expression.
“Location: Correct. Character: Correct. Time: Correct. This villain!! Entering my dreams again!! Can’t a person get a decent night’s sleep!!”
“Good sister, who upset you now? Don’t take it out on me—” Ji Yunfei pouted and raised her hands in surrender. She just wanted a peaceful sleep.
“You have the nerve to say that? One moment you ask me for counseling… the next you’re laughing and giggling with some other little vixen? Hmm?” “I didn’t realize you were such a little heartbreaker.”
The woman narrowed her eyes, revealing an ambiguous smile that made Ji Yunfei feel inexplicably guilty. She instinctively began to explain:
“You mean Su Yao? She’s just a very good friend from college.”
“She’s like a big sister to me… she took great care of me back then. She offered to keep me company, so how could I refuse?”
“Wait… why am I explaining this to you??”
Ji Yunfei huffily swatted the woman’s hand away from her ear. She held her head high with a clear conscience. Why was she being called a heartbreaker? She hadn’t even settled the score for what happened earlier that night!
“And you, why did you run into my dream again? And… burning me with your scale? What do you want?” Ji Yunfei crossed her arms and countered.
“Ahem—well, about that…” Seeing Ji Yunfei bring it up, the woman’s gaze drifted, afraid to meet her eyes. “You are my property… you aren’t allowed to interact with other little vixens.”
The woman quickly recovered, choosing not to answer the question and instead asserting her ownership.
“Property? Your possessiveness is too much. Strictly speaking, you should be calling me ‘Master’ just like the other little snakes! Besides, according to your logic, is Xie Yin also a ‘vixen’? Why didn’t you burn me when I was with her?” Ji Yunfei couldn’t understand this snake’s logic. This person was truly strange… and had double standards.
“…” At this, Xie Yin was momentarily speechless. She had dug a massive hole for herself.
“I don’t care… I don’t like the look of that Su girl, but the one named Xie looks okay to me…” Xie Yin had an internal struggle before settling on the most shameless tactic: talking nonsense.
“Pfft… alright, alright, I’m done teasing you.”
“Go find something else to do. I need to rest. I have an exhibition to go to tomorrow—”
Ji Yunfei grinned, seeing no issue. She flopped onto the small bed in the wooden cabin and closed her eyes peacefully, ignoring the reaction of the Beauty Snake beside her.
Left with no choice, the “driven away” Xie Yin could only vent her “powerless fury” in silence. She wanted to punish this little dummy, but she was afraid of actually disturbing her sleep.
A single misstep causing eternal regret! If she had known, she would have flatly rejected Rika. Xie Yin now just wanted to go back and pry open her own skull from that night to see what kind of mush was inside.
What a disaster!
