Beauty Snake - Chapter 22
Chapter 22: A King Bed Room???
“Who are you?” Seeing the intruder, Ji Yunfei knitted her brows and stepped forward to shield Xie Yin, sensing trouble.
The burly man grinned, revealing a row of uneven yellow teeth, and let out a cold laugh. “Is there anyone on Heng Street who doesn’t know ‘Old Biao’? Whatever, let’s get down to business.”
“Ji Guoqiang is your father, right?”
“Don’t know him. My father died a long time ago.”
The moment she heard the name Ji Guoqiang, Ji Yunfei understood exactly why this Biao-ge had come. She knew Ji Guoqiang wouldn’t give up so easily.
“You say you don’t know him and that’s it? Denying your own old man?” Old Biao sneered. “I don’t care if you and him are dead or alive, that grandson of a bitch owes me this much, and now he’s vanished.”
Old Biao spread his five fingers and waved them in front of Ji Yunfei’s face. “As his daughter, you’re going to have to pay up for him.” He slapped a debt note onto the table, bearing both his and Ji Guoqiang’s signatures and thumbprints.
“Go find the person who borrowed it. Looking for me? No money! Besides, I have no legal obligation to pay his debts.” Ji Yunfei grabbed Xie Yin’s hand, ready to leave.
“Damn it, you aren’t leaving today without handing over the cash!” Old Biao kicked the table over and signaled his lackeys to surround them.
“Or… maybe you two little beauties could keep us brothers company today?” A lecherous smile spread across Old Biao’s face, making Ji Yunfei feel nauseous. He rubbed his hands together, his eyes darting back and forth between Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin like he was inspecting incoming cargo.
This Old Biao was a notorious local snake, known for being ruthless and unpredictable. Ji Yunfei had heard of his reputation but had never seen him in the flesh.
“Great, this guy is bad news…”
“Of the thirty-six stratagems, fleeing is the best!”
Ji Yunfei tugged at Xie Yin’s sleeve. They locked eyes for a split second and, with perfect chemistry, bolted at the same time.
“D*mmit, catch them! Don’t let those two girls get away!” Old Biao’s enraged roar echoed behind them, followed by the sound of heavy, rapid footsteps.
“This way!” Seeing the group gaining on them, Ji Yunfei pulled Xie Yin into a narrow alleyway. she pushed Xie Yin ahead, staying back to cover the rear.
Sizzle—
“AAAAHHH! MY EYES!”
“Get lost, is that all you’ve got?”
In reality, after the last incident with Ji Guoqiang, Ji Yunfei had come prepared. She had self-defense gear on her at all times, and now it was paying off. As the goons closed in, she whipped out her pepper spray and blasted them right in the eyes, sending the group into chaos. Seizing the moment, she knocked over some junk in the alley to create a barrier and kept running.
As she ran, she felt a bit puzzled. Is Xie Yin that fast? It hadn’t been long, but she had already lost sight of her.
“Hey—” Suddenly, a hand reached out from a corner and pulled Ji Yunfei in.
It was Xie Yin.
The space was extremely cramped, forcing the two of them to press tightly against each other. Warm skin in front, a cold wall behind—a mix of fire and ice. Fresh from a sprint, Ji Yunfei’s chest was heaving, her breath ragged and frantic. Their warm breaths mingled in the tiny space, creating an accidental spark of intimacy.
“Shh—” Ji Yunfei looked up. Xie Yin placed her index finger over Ji Yunfei’s lips, signaling her to be quiet and listen to the movement outside.
Wee-woo, wee-woo—
“Shit, the feds are here! Everyone retreat!” The sound of sirens and Old Biao’s panicked shouting faded into the distance.
Ji Yunfei looked at Xie Yin and saw a smug smile on her face. “When did you call the police?”
“Right when he started smashing the stall…” Xie Yin waved her phone, showing the call logs.
“You called them and still ran with me?” Ji Yunfei felt a pang of regret over her own reckless behavior.
“Um… well, it was a reflex…” Xie Yin smiled, though a flicker of guilt crossed her eyes.
“Forget it… let’s get out of here first.”
As they stepped out of the alley, they saw Old Biao and his crew being shoved into police cars, their eyes full of resentment. A police officer then escorted Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin to the station to give their statements.
“Phew—loan sharks and Ji Guoqiang are all heading back to the slammer~” Ji Yunfei felt an unusual sense of relief. Old Biao’s crew had plenty of skeletons in the closet; with Ji Guoqiang included, they’d be “returning to the palace” for a long stay.
“Look at that silly face… you don’t have to live in fear now. Which means you can focus on working to pay me back ^v^” Seeing Ji Yunfei’s excitement, Xie Yin couldn’t help but ruffle her hair again.
“Evil capitalist…” Ji Yunfei covered her head, secretly happy but grumbling under her breath.
“What was that?” “Hehe, nothing! Just saying CEO Xie is a wonderful person! Let’s go, let’s go… we need to rest. We leave for City S the day after tomorrow.”
Seeing Xie Yin’s narrowed eyes and playful smirk, Ji Yunfei quickly changed the subject. They stood by the roadside, chatting idly while waiting for Xie Yin’s driver to pick them up.
“Hello, here is your room card.”
“Huh? Only one?”
“A king bed room—???”
Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin didn’t land until late at night. By the time they reached the hotel, it was well past midnight. Only at check-in did they discover only one room had been booked.
“Can we book another one?” Ji Yunfei tried tentatively.
“Apologies, Ma’am, the hotel is fully booked. There are no extra rooms available.”
It was true; it was peak tourist season in City S, and hotels everywhere were packed. One couldn’t just book a room on a whim. Ji Yunfei gave a long, suspicious look to Xie Yin, who was standing beside her, secretly looking quite pleased.
“Ahem—the assistant booked it… I really didn’t know. Besides, is sharing a bed with me… making you shy?”
Seeing Ji Yunfei staring at her, Xie Yin coughed awkwardly, her eyes darting everywhere but at Ji Yunfei. Her guilt was obvious, yet she couldn’t resist teasing.
“Hah… I’ll believe that when pigs fly!”
“Shy? Those words aren’t in my dictionary! It’s just a room, what’s the big deal? Let’s go, upstairs!”
To prove she wasn’t shy at all, Ji Yunfei grabbed the luggage with one hand and dragged Xie Yin toward the elevator with the other, talking non-stop as she walked. Anyone else might not have noticed, but Xie Yin knew: Ji Yunfei was definitely nervous. When she got nervous, her speaking speed increased, and sentences would just pop out one after another.
So stupidly cute, my A-Fei…
“La la la—I love bathing, my skin feels great~”
In the bathtub, Ji Yunfei reclined halfway, her long chestnut hair floating lazily on the water’s surface. Her eyes were closed in bliss. Steam filled the air, turning her cheeks a rosy pink. “Ah~ nothing beats a soak~”
Splash— “Huh?”
“…” Plop! Water splashed everywhere.
If time could turn back, Ji Yunfei would never have forgotten to bring her pajamas into the bathroom. Now, she wished she could just drown herself in the tub.
Knock, knock, knock— “Ji Yunfei? Are you okay?” Xie Yin’s concerned voice came from outside.
“I’m fine… but also not fine…”
“Do you need help?”
Sensing the embarrassment in her tone, Xie Yin took the initiative. “Um… well… I forgot my pajamas on the bed…” Ji Yunfei stammered, covering her face.
“…”
“Is it this white bear set?” After a few seconds of silence, Xie Yin’s footsteps sounded, followed by her amused voice.
“Yes… could you please bring them in…?”
Ji Yunfei could feel her heart pounding uncontrollably. She sank her body deep into the water, leaving only a pinkish head above the surface.
Click. The lock turned. Xie Yin slowly nudged the door open and shuffled in. She had one hand covering her eyes and the other holding the pajamas, feeling her way forward.
Seeing this, Ji Yunfei reached out to take the clothes, but the sudden movement caused Xie Yin to lose her footing.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa—!” Splash!
Ji Yunfei watched in horror as a panicked Xie Yin slipped and fell right toward her… and “landed” straight into her arms.
Water splashed high into the air and rained down on both their heads. She watched as Xie Yin flailed a few times in the tub before steadying herself. Her hair was soaking wet, clinging to her face, with droplets sliding down the tips.
On anyone else, this would look like a mess, but on Xie Yin, it only added a layer of allure. Ji Yunfei was dazed again. It wasn’t until Xie Yin looked up and their eyes met that she realized how awkward the situation was.
Ji Yunfei’s face, already pink from the steam, turned a vivid, burning red. She instinctively looked away, but her eyes accidentally caught a glimpse of the beautiful view beneath Xie Yin’s white shirt, which had become translucent from the water.
She slammed her eyes shut, chanting internally: See no evil. She opened her mouth to speak, but her throat felt completely blocked.
Xie Yin wasn’t doing much better. Her face was flushed crimson, and her usual composure had vanished. She scrambled to pull herself out of the tub, looking away frantically.
“I… I’ll go get you a shirt… you can wear it for now…” Xie Yin stammered, turning her head away. She was so flustered she nearly slipped again as she ran out of the bathroom.
“Pfft…”
This was the first time Ji Yunfei had seen Xie Yin so rattled. She couldn’t help but laugh, almost forgetting her own predicament.
So cute…
“CEO Xie… you should go in quickly… don’t catch a cold…” Ji Yunfei felt a bit bad seeing a dripping wet Xie Yin sitting on a chair.
“Um… okay…” Xie Yin still looked like she hadn’t recovered from the sudden “event.” She moved slowly and dazed back into the bathroom.
Shhh—
The sound of the shower disturbed Ji Yunfei’s thoughts. She simply flopped onto the bed and pulled the duvet over her head, trying to physically block out the sound that was dancing on her nerves. But the more she tried not to listen, the more distinct the sound became, lingering in her mind.
Click—
After a while, the water stopped. The bathroom door opened…
