Chapter 19: Is This a Punishment or a Reward?!

Just after being kissed, Ji Yunfei’s face was squeezed by the woman’s hand. She tried to speak, but only muffled whimpers escaped.

“Let… go of… me… @#$” Ji Yunfei used both hands and feet, struggling to push away the woman who had her pinned down.

“No.”

The woman narrowed her eyes, letting out a mischievous laugh. She seemed to take great pleasure in seeing Ji Yunfei’s frustrated expression—the look of someone who couldn’t stand her but couldn’t get rid of her.

“Instead of thinking about how to make me let you go…” The woman leaned in close to Ji Yunfei’s ear and blew a soft breath. The hot air turned Ji Yunfei’s earlobe a bright crimson. “Why don’t you think about… how I should punish you…”

“Who are you calling a heartbreaker?!”

With her face squeezed, Ji Yunfei couldn’t speak clearly, so she ranted internally. However, as she watched the woman’s face darken with every thought she had, she realized she was in deep trouble.

Suddenly, Ji Yunfei felt something wet on her collarbone. She looked down to see the woman buried in the crook of her neck, her lips pressed tight and the corners of her eyes red with unshed tears.

“Don’t cry…” Few could resist feeling a pang of heartache when a beauty weeps, and Ji Yunfei was certainly not one of them.

Seeing the woman looking so utterly aggrieved, Ji Yunfei felt a twinge of guilt. After all, what the woman said seemed to be the truth…

She carefully placed a hand on the woman’s back and gave it a gentle pat. To her surprise, the woman twisted her body, shaking off her hand, and moved to a nearby lounge chair. She turned her back, refusing to acknowledge Ji Yunfei.

Seeing that she was being ignored, Ji Yunfei knitted her brows, racking her brain for a way to make amends. Luckily, inspiration struck quickly. She smirked and tiptoed out of the room.

She failed to notice the woman on the chair—her shoulders trembling, the tip of her tail twitching, and tears continuing to fall silently.

“Glasses! Over here!” After leaving the cabin, Ji Yunfei quickly tracked down her pets and found the smartest one, Glasses.

“Master!” The grey-haired man with a snake tail was overjoyed to see her, circling around her repeatedly.

“I know you’re the smartest… come tell me what exactly happened…” Ji Yunfei tried to coax him with a sly smile.

But Glasses wasn’t falling for it. He smacked his lips and looked at her with disdain. “Don’t even try to bait me, Master… it’s highly unethical! You have to ask the Boss about that yourself!”

“But… did you seriously make the Boss angry?” He squinted at her with a shocked, slightly punchable expression.

“That really stings!”

Ji Yunfei narrowed her eyes and put on what she thought was a “kind” smile, grabbing Glasses by the ear. “You little traitor! Not only do you refuse to help, but you’re also mocking me?”

“Ow, ow, ow! Hey, I really can’t say! But don’t worry, Master, we’re all doing great. We’ll meet again if fate allows!”

“We have the Boss to thank for that!” Glasses struggled until he finally rescued his precious ear from her clutches. Rubbing his reddened ear, he gave her a piece of advice: “Hey, Master, if you want to apologize, just wrap yourself up and give yourself to the Boss as a gift. She likes you best anyway; a ‘honey trap’ will definitely work!”

“Ow!” Before Glasses could celebrate his brilliance, Ji Yunfei snatched his other ear.

“Useless. Go play somewhere else, I’ll figure it out myself.”

“Wooo… but that really is the most effective way…” Glasses grumbled, rubbing both ears as he watched her walk away.

“Heave-ho, heave-ho…” Ji Yunfei returned to the cabin carrying a basket full of fish and shrimp. She knocked softly, but there was no response. After a moment, she let herself in.

“Rascal? Beauty snake?” she whispered, but the person on the lounge chair didn’t react.

Ji Yunfei set down the basket and leaned in. She noticed the woman’s brow was furrowed, and sweat had soaked the cushion beneath her. She seemed to be in great pain.

“Are you okay?” Her voice carried an urgency and worry she didn’t even notice herself.

“Nn… A-Fei… it hurts…”

“I need you… help me…”

Upon seeing Ji Yunfei, the woman wrapped her arms around her neck and pulled her close, her voice thick with emotion.

“Not again… another round?!”

Looking at her, Ji Yunfei hesitated for a split second before leaning down to press a kiss to the corner of her mouth. The woman seemed to relish it, twisting her body to offer her cool lips to Ji Yunfei.

But Ji Yunfei placed an index finger between their lips, blocking her path.

“I can help you… but…” Ji Yunfei whispered, coaxing the woman like a siren enchanting a sailor. “First, tell me… why did you all run away back then?”

“Okay…” The woman blinked her watery eyes, cupped Ji Yunfei’s face with both hands, and pressed their foreheads together.

Instantly, fragments of memory flashed through Ji Yunfei’s mind. The collective escape of the snakes; the image of her searching for them in the cave; the snakes jumping off the cliff to find this hidden paradise; the snakes cultivating themselves into demons…

“By becoming demons, we can stay with Master for much longer!” The voices of the snakes echoed in her mind, making her nose tingle with sadness.

“You little idiots… don’t you know how worried I was…”

“A-Fei… now… can we?” Someone tugged at her clothes, pulling her back to reality.

The woman beneath her blinked, her eyes pleading but filled mostly with desire. At some point, the narcissus scent had filled the air again, curling around Ji Yunfei’s senses.

“…” Ji Yunfei sighed and gently cupped the woman’s face, providing the heat she craved so much.

“Mmm… A-Fei… more…”

The string of logic in the woman’s mind snapped completely. With a dark glint in her eyes, Ji Yunfei smirked and grabbed the woman’s hand, guiding it toward those silver scales.

“Do it yourself…”

Before sinking into total oblivion, Ji Yunfei heard the woman’s satisfied sigh:

“A-Fei, I will always be by your side…”

“Ugh—” Ji Yunfei slept until noon but still felt drained. She looked around and suddenly noticed her snake-scale necklace had somehow been torn off and was lying beside her. She picked it up and noticed the scale was shinier and more beautiful than before.

She tied the knot back together and went to wash up. But when she looked in the mirror, she froze. On her collarbone was a prominent bite mark… the mark of snake fangs.

Combined with those words in the dream… she really wanted to lie to herself and say Fatty escaped his cage and bit her like a little mouse. But everything reminded her of the truth: She had been haunted by a beautiful snake demon.

What a supernatural world…

Vibrate— Her phone pulled her back to reality. It was Chi Chang.

“Hello?”

“Fei-zi!! Are you free this afternoon? Accompany me to Qingshan Temple!! I heard it’s incredibly accurate for divination and marriage luck~ You know I desperately need a sweet romance right now~~”

“…Look at you, so pathetic. Fine, I’ll come find you after I get ready.”

Normally, Ji Yunfei wasn’t interested in temples. But this time, a voice in the back of her mind told her she had to go.

After setting a time with Chi Chang, she checked WeChat and saw a message from Xie Yin from last night.
