Beauty Snake - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: Oh? A Bar Encounter?
“Hey, don’t forget—wait for me after work tonight.”
During the lunch break, Ji Yunfei was about to take a nice nap when someone tapped her shoulder from behind. She turned around to see Chi Chang, sporting her signature golden waves and bright red lipstick.
“I know, but stop looking for me during lunch breaks. It’s not a good habit to disturb someone’s peaceful dreams.” Ji Yunfei brushed Chi Chang’s hand off her shoulder with a look of mild annoyance.
“Wooo… Fei-zi, you’re so cold…” Chi Chang acted as if her heart had been shattered. She grabbed Ji Yunfei’s hand and pressed it against her chest. “Can you feel it? This fragile little heart has broken into eight pieces… ugh…”
Ji Yunfei felt a shiver of disgust, shook her hand free, and pulled back. “Be serious. Meet me in the parking lot tonight. I’m napping now. Director Chi, shouldn’t you go back to rest too?”
Ji Yunfei wore a sinister smile, signaling that if Chi Chang dared to say ‘no,’ she might be packed up and fed to the snakes in the next second.
“Haha… right, right… time to rest… remember tonight!” Chi Chang didn’t dare stay longer; she forced a stiff smile and scurried away.
“Sigh… that girl is just hopeless.” Ji Yunfei watched her dash off, shook her head, and prepared to meet the God of Dreams. A beautiful lunch break should be dedicated to sleeping.
“Hey, Fei-zi! Over here!”
As soon as Ji Yunfei walked into the parking lot, she heard Chi Chang shouting.
“Coming, coming.” Ji Yunfei followed the sound and found Chi Chang standing next to her… flashy red convertible.
“Finally! Let’s go, let’s go. Sister’s going to help you drown your sorrows tonight.” Hearing the unrestrained excitement in Chi Chang’s voice, Ji Yunfei felt a spark of anticipation herself.
“Let me guess, are you taking me to see the night view, look at the stars, and talk about life?” Ji Yunfei teased, noticing they were heading further away from the city center.
“Please, I’m not a sentimental youth like you. To drown sorrows, you need the magic medicine: alcohol. And hey, look. We’re here.”
Chi Chang slammed on the brakes, and the roar of the engine died down. Ji Yunfei looked up to see a bar named “Charm.”
“So after all that, you’re taking me drinking? Well, it fits you. Logical.” Ji Yunfei massaged her temples. Her alcohol tolerance was famously terrible; she was worried about what kind of chaos she might cause.
“Relax, drinking is only part of it… you’ll see when you go in.” Chi Chang gestured for her not to jump to conclusions, hopped out of the car, and strolled into the bar. Ji Yunfei had no choice but to follow.
Inside, the lights were dim, and dark pink neon cast an ambiguous glow. A huge dance floor sat in the center with a rotating disco ball and pulsing music. Ji Yunfei spotted Chi Chang immediately in the middle of the crowd—that golden hair was hard to miss.
Seeing Ji Yunfei keep up, Chi Chang’s eyes lit up. she pushed through the crowd to pull Ji Yunfei toward the floor. “Look at this place! It’s practically tailormade for girls like us, isn’t it? It’s paradise—”
It was only then that Ji Yunfei noticed: since entering, she hadn’t seen a single man.
“So… this is a lesbian bar?”
“Bingo!! My dear sister, see how thoughtful I am? Come on, there’s nothing alcohol and a little ‘hunting’ can’t fix. And if there is, just hunt a few more times~”
Ji Yunfei stared at her with a head full of black lines. She patted Chi Chang’s hand away and teased, “I don’t need that kind of ‘distraction.’ Go on, play by yourself. I’m going to the bar for some peace and quiet.”
“Fine, fine. Don’t drink too much. If you pass out, I’m not cleaning up after you.” Chi Chang made a face and spun back into the dance floor to continue the party.
“Hello, what can I get for you?”
The booming music was giving Ji Yunfei a headache, so she found a seat at the far corner of the bar. A waiter greeted her warmly. Ji Yunfei looked at the menu full of flowery names and felt another headache coming.
“Crimson Valley, Moonlight Illusion, Long Island Ice Tea…”
“What even are these…”
“How about this… just give me whatever you recommend…” Ji Yunfei decided to leave the decision to fate and the waiter.
“Miss, here is a special blend for you. The tartness of perfume lemon mixed with the sweetness of syrup, enhanced by the unique flavor of rum. The mint leaves are the finishing touch. I believe you’ll like it.”
Ji Yunfei took a sniff; the fresh lemon scent was enticing, with a hint of sweetness. It was different from the booze she’d had before. Intrigued, she took a sip.
The mint and lemon washed over her taste buds, followed by the mellow aroma of rum. “Mmm—delicious! Another one!”
Ji Yunfei apparently hit her limit quickly. She went glass after glass. The consequence: before long, her cheeks felt like they were on fire, and her head grew heavy.
“Mm… snake babies… hehe… come have a drink..” In her daze, she saw the silhouettes of her snakes appearing before her. Her stalled brain couldn’t process reality, so she instinctively wobbled to her feet, reaching out to touch them.
“Huh? Don’t run—wait for me…” Just as she was about to touch her “darlings,” they vanished again. She swayed and looked around, seeing the snakes weaving through the crowd. Drunk and desperate, she chased after them.
“Snake baby—Rascal… don’t run, sister’s… whoops…”
Her attention was entirely on the phantom snakes, and she didn’t notice the people around her. As she gave chase, her head bumped into someone. A faint, clean fragrance drifted into her nose—a floral scent, though she couldn’t identify it in the mix of the bar.
She rubbed her sore head. But when she looked up to apologize, she met a pair of familiar, tender eyes…
“Is it… you?” Ji Yunfei froze, her drunk brain unable to react. She tried to stand straighter to get a better look. But as her vision cleared, she felt a wave of disappointment. Everything was right, except the color of the pupils.
The person before her had eyes as black as ink. Captivating, yes, but they weren’t those pale green eyes.
“Have you… seen enough? Am I that good-looking?” A cool female voice reached her ears.
Even the voice was so similar… though it lacked that touch of seductive charm from her memory. Ji Yunfei struggled to focus. The woman was about 1.74m tall, just slightly taller than her, wearing a loose black suit that seemed a bit out of place here. Her soft black hair was casually held up by a claw clip, and behind gold-rimmed glasses were black eyes filled with amusement.
So similar. Almost identical.
With the alcohol clouding her mind, the two figures in her vision began to merge.
“You… look good…”
“Have we… met… somewhere…”
Before she could finish, Ji Yunfei collapsed into a warm embrace. She was out cold and couldn’t be woken up.
Thus, she missed the flash of panic and worry in the woman’s eyes the moment she fell. Nor did she hear the whisper in her ear:
“You dummy, drinking so much with such a low tolerance…”
