Chapter 7: The Smell of Green Tea Is Too Strong!
Lu Miao curled her lip. Who was trying to get his attention?
The man took a cursory glance at the menu. “Two plates of shepherd’s purse dumplings.”
The waiter noted it down. “Alright, coming right up.”
Lu Miao looked at him in surprise. “You like shepherd’s purse dumplings?”
Fu Shiyue rubbed the rim of his teacup with his thumb, his gaze deep and dark. “Is there a problem?”
“Very few people order this kind of dumpling, but I order it every time I come.”
Fu Shiyue stared at her thoughtfully for a moment. “Do you come here often?”
Lu Miao nodded. “I’m the one who eats all the shepherd’s purse dumplings in this shop. Even the owner thinks I’m a bit of an oddball.”
The corners of Fu Shiyue’s lips tilted up. “That is quite a coincidence.”
When Lu Miao was little, she loved eating shepherd’s purse. Fu Shiyue had ordered people to dig up all the flowers in the garden and plant it full of shepherd’s purse instead.
Even the servants thought it was a pity; a garden filled with world-famous flowers had been turned into a shepherd’s purse patch exclusively for Lu Miao. It was a sea of green, yet Fu Shiyue insisted it looked good. No one knew where his sense of aesthetics had gone.
While waiting for the dumplings, Lu Miao poured him a cup of tea.
Just as Fu Shiyue picked up the cup, a surprised female voice cut in.
“Miao Miao? I saw someone who looked like you from a distance, and it really is you!”
Lu Miao looked up. It was Wang Gege and Xu Jin.
These two sisters were the closest things Lu Miao had to friends in university. Both came from families with some capital and were just idling away their time at school to get a diploma before being arranged to enter their family companies after graduation.
A flashy Porsche 718 was parked by the roadside; it was obvious they had also skipped class.
“Miao Miao, did the counselor give you a hard time?” Wang Gege was still worried about her.
“No, it’s already settled.”
Xu Jin’s eyes, however, were sparkling. She couldn’t help but tease, “Miao Miao, you just dumped Wang Mingcheng, and you’ve already found a new one so quickly?”
The moment she entered, she had spotted the man sitting opposite Lu Miao.
His features were well-defined, his facial lines cold and hard. His entire aura was powerful yet restrained, exuding the steadiness of a mature man.
He was a “specimen” that simply couldn’t be found in a place like a university.
Xu Jin complained coquettishly, “Miao Miao, you’re being so unfair. Sneaking off to eat something this good by yourself? Won’t you introduce us?”
“What are you talking about? This is my…”
Saying he was her uncle’s friend would easily lead to misunderstandings, so Lu Miao simply explained, “He’s my uncle.”
Fu Shiyue held his teacup, looking at her gloomily. Behind the deep black eyes clouded by the tea’s steam, an indecipherable smile was hidden.
Lu Miao’s ears felt hot, but she glared back righteously. What are you looking at? I’m letting you take advantage of the title.
So it’s an uncle. He’s so young; he probably doesn’t have a girlfriend yet, right?
Xu Jin walked over bashfully. Looking at the empty seat next to Fu Shiyue, she blinked coyly. “Uncle, may I sit here?”
That “Uncle” was called out so sweetly and affectionately.
Fu Shiyue smiled. “No.”
“…” Everyone present froze.
Xu Jin was, after all, the “department beauty” of Hengtong University. She had looks and money; throwing a birthday party would cost her millions, and people in her circle jokingly called her “Eldest Miss Xu.”
She had gained many privileges based on her face alone. Usually, when she offered to eat together, others would feel honored and stand up to pull out a chair for her.
This man didn’t even give her a glance. He refused so bluntly, giving her absolutely no face.
Lu Miao hurriedly smoothed things over. “Sorry, my uncle doesn’t like sitting next to people. Why don’t you sit next to me?”
Xu Jin’s stiff face recovered quickly. “It’s fine, Miao Miao. Handsome guys are always ‘strangers keep away’.”
She patted Lu Miao’s shoulder nonchalantly and whispered in her ear, “Meet at the usual place tonight. We’ll be waiting.”
After speaking, she stood up and took another look at Fu Shiyue. This man truly was pleasing to the eye.
“Let’s go, Gege.” Xu Jin reluctantly withdrew her gaze and left, arm-in-arm with Wang Gege.
Lu Miao turned back and found the man opposite her staring at Xu Jin’s retreating figure. She waved a hand in front of his eyes. “What are you looking at?”
Fu Shiyue took a sip of tea and calmly withdrew his gaze. “Nothing.”
“I’m warning you, don’t you dare have any designs on my friend. The gap between you two is too big…”
Before she could finish, the teacup was slammed heavily onto the table with a clack. Lu Miao’s brow twitched. “Why such a big reaction?”
“The tea taste is too strong.”
“…” Who was he trying to insinuate was “green tea” here?
After finishing the dumplings, Lu Miao couldn’t wait to send this man away.
Fu Shiyue rolled down the car window. “Behave at school. I’ll come pick you up tonight.”
“No need to pick me up.” Lu Miao turned to leave.
Fu Shiyue reached out and grabbed her hoodie’s hood, pulling back and easily yanking her back. “Don’t run around. If I find out you’ve skipped class again, I’ll come to school every day to watch you.”
Lu Miao tilted her head to look at him, her almond eyes dark. “Are you that bored?”
Fu Shiyue turned his face casually. “Quite bored.”
Lu Miao’s mouth twisted in anger. “Then go find a job! Don’t spend all day worrying about other people’s kids. If you’re really that desperate, go have one yourself!”
Having said that, she batted his hand away and ran off immediately.
After running a distance, Lu Miao stopped to catch her breath, her cheeks flushed.
Why was this man always getting handsy with her?
She pulled at her hoodie hood in annoyance.
Since she had made things so clear, if that man had any self-awareness, he wouldn’t come looking for her again, right?
At 11:00 PM, Lu Miao received a message from Wang Gege: “Oscar, Room 101, Eldest Miss Xu’s party.”
She put on a camisole and a short skirt, looking like a little butterfly ready to dance. She grabbed her small bag, intending to fly out.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw a dark silhouette standing there. She screamed in fright and scurried back behind the door.
The man was tall and stood ramrod straight, his face like a sculpture immersed in the darkness.
It wasn’t until the hallway lights were triggered by her scream that his face was illuminated.
The girl who had been startled by him poked her head out, then looked as if she had seen a ghost. “Why are you here again?!”
Fu Shiyue had just come from a dinner party. It was late, and he had planned to go back and stay at his own place, but he was afraid Lu Miao wouldn’t behave, so he stopped by on the way.
He hadn’t expected to catch her red-handed.
“Lu Yan said you like midnight activities. I came to check.”
He languidly sized up Lu Miao, his brow arching. “Just about to go out?”
Lu Miao bit her lip awkwardly. “It’s none of your business. You’ve seen me, now you can go back.”
The man turned a deaf ear to her words. “Lest you stay out all night, I’ll be staying here to watch you tonight.”
Having finished his blunt declaration, he simply stepped inside.
Lu Miao instinctively backed away. “Who… who gave you permission to come in!”
She stomped her feet in anxiety but couldn’t stop him from entering. Her petite frame was even squeezed against the wine cabinet by him, her small face flushing red with anger.
The man closed the door behind him. His tall body blocked the light above Lu Miao’s head, standing over her like a dark cloud as he looked down at her outfit.
Her originally pure face was covered in heavy makeup. She had her hair in braids, wore cat ears, and was dressed elaborately. She also smelled wonderful; the air was filled with her sweet fragrance.
Seeing her dressed so lightly, with large areas of snowy-white arms and legs exposed, Fu Shiyue narrowed his eyes. He reached out and pinched one of her cat ears. “Dressed so scantily, where are you planning to go?”
Lu Miao huffed and batted his hand away, saying righteously, “It’s none of your business. I made it very clear at noon—I don’t want you to manage me.”
After speaking, she ignored him and tried to leave in her small high heels.
Fu Shiyue yanked her back. Unsteady, she crashed into the man’s hard, hot chest.
Her freshly applied lipstick was rubbed off, leaving a bright, clear lip print on his chest.
