Be Good, Let Me Kiss You One More Time - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Truly a Little Heartless Thing
Among the four great families of the capital, the Fu family stood at the head. Fu Shiyue truly didn’t know which corner of the world this “Wang family” had crawled out from.
His gaze was chilly, and a mocking curve touched his thin lips. “Made your fortune as a scrap metal business or something?”
“…”
Mrs. Wang’s face instantly flushed deep red; one look told him he had hit the mark.
Feeling her dignity was at stake, she opened her mouth and blustered loudly, “Call the police! I won’t settle this privately. He injured someone; he must go to jail!”
“Call the police?”
Fu Shiyue let out a light scoff. “The police are already here.”
“The police are here? Where?” The counselor craned his neck to look.
Mrs. Wang was utterly dismissive. “Hmph, posturing. I’ve seen plenty of people like you!”
Fu Shiyue looked at Mrs. Wang with a playful, mocking expression. “You aren’t even clear on what your son has been doing outside? He has already been taken away by the police.”
“What did you say? Don’t you try to scare me!”
Mrs. Wang didn’t believe it, but she doted on her precious son and feared he might be in trouble, so she immediately made a call to confirm.
A moment later, her entire body collapsed onto the sofa.
Wang Mingcheng was suspected of involvement with prostitution, gambling, and drugs, and was already under investigation.
“This is impossible. My son could never do such a thing!”
Mrs. Wang glared viciously at Fu Shiyue. “It must be your doing! You hit someone and now you want to frame them! You wait, I won’t let you off!”
To display the Wang family’s power and show Fu Shiyue a thing or two, she called her husband right then and there. “Hello, Hubby? Our son has been falsely accused. Find someone to get him out immediately.”
“You stupid woman! Who did you offend out there? All the investors cooperating with our Wang Group withdrew their capital this morning!”
Mrs. Wang felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She gave Fu Shiyue a suspicious, terrified look, then covered her phone and walked to the side. “How did this happen?”
“People from the Judicial Bureau are here to investigate us! Get back here right now and explain yourself. If the Wang Group goes bankrupt, I’m divorcing you, and you won’t get a single penny!”
Mrs. Wang’s face turned deathly pale. Ignoring everyone else in the office, she grabbed her bag and hurried away.
The counselor, seeing Mrs. Wang leave so abruptly, was somewhat bewildered.
She had been so aggressive before she arrived; why did she leave before the matter was resolved?
He looked at the man in the office and let out a cough. “And who are you to Lu Miao?”
“Her guardian,” the cold voice rang out.
Guardian?
The school had conducted a background check; Lu Miao’s parents were both deceased, and she lived with her uncle.
The counselor questioned, “Are you Lu Miao’s uncle?”
Lu Miao instinctively looked up at the man.
Looking at his stern and handsome face, she curled her lip.
What kind of uncle was he? He was more like the lackey her uncle sent to spy on her.
Unexpectedly, the man didn’t deny it. He pulled Lu Miao behind him, his cold eyes narrowing slightly as he stared at the counselor. “Got something to say?”
The counselor sat up straight, assuming a posture of serious education. “Lu Miao’s Uncle, as a guardian, how could you be the first to resort to violence?”
Fu Shiyue made sure he hadn’t misheard. He let out a scoff, pulled out a chair, and sat down. “Then why don’t you teach me? When my kid is bullied, if I shouldn’t resort to violence, what should I do?”
The oppressive pressure made the counselor break out in a cold sweat. “Wang Mingcheng was indeed in the wrong, but you still shouldn’t have smashed the man’s head open…”
Fu Shiyue nodded, his gaze mocking. “You’re right. Smashed his head? That was too light. He should have been crippled.”
The counselor wiped his sweat. Lu Miao’s “Uncle” looked a bit fierce; if he turned out to be some underworld thug, he was not someone to offend.
“Lu Miao’s Uncle, we should set a good example for the children. Regardless, hitting people is wrong. I’ll go negotiate with Wang Mingcheng’s mother another day and ask her to give Lu Miao a chance…”
“No need.”
Fu Shiyue interrupted impatiently. “This matter is already settled.”
From now on, the Wang family could no longer exist in the capital.
“Settled?” The counselor’s face was full of doubt. The Wang family was so powerful; how could they let Lu Miao off so easily?
Fu Shiyue didn’t respond. He glanced down at the time, stood up, and left, taking Lu Miao with him.
The counselor’s face darkened slightly, feeling the man was very rude. “Lu Miao’s Uncle!”
“There is a very serious matter I must tell you. In Lu Miao’s final exams last semester, she failed every single subject! If she doesn’t pass the make-up exams this time, she will face disciplinary action!”
Fu Shiyue turned back without expression, looking at the counselor coldly. “Shouldn’t that be a problem with your school?”
The counselor choked. This was the first time he had met a parent who thought the school was the problem when the child had bad grades!
“Lu Miao’s Uncle, I hope you realize the severity of the problem…”
The counselor trailed off. He met Fu Shiyue’s gaze and saw eyes so fierce they looked like they could devour a person.
Yet his tone was so flat it betrayed no emotion. “That is a matter for your school to resolve. I’m taking the girl now.”
The counselor was so angry his beard practically bristled.
He had seen doting parents, but he had never seen someone so protective of faults. Truly, “if the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam will follow!”
Lu Miao also hadn’t expected this man to talk back to the teacher for her.
She had thought a rigid person like him would join a united front with the teacher to lecture her, just like all other parents, or report her to her uncle.
After being led out of the office, Lu Miao looked up at the man. “How did you know to come?”
He replied smoothly, “Your uncle received a call from the school. He asked me to come over and look into the situation.”
“Oh.”
Lu Miao’s tone was cold. Fu Shiyue raised an eyebrow. “Nothing else to say?”
Lu Miao’s black-and-white eyes peered at him with some resentment. “Thanks. You successfully helped me offend my counselor.”
Fu Shiyue looked down in surprise.
Little heartless thing. He settles her trouble for her and she isn’t even grateful.
“I’m going back to class.”
Lu Miao broke free from his hand and ran off in a flash.
She ran to the stairwell, and just as she was about to go down the stairs, she heard a majestic, stern voice—
“Lu Miao caused trouble again? What? Hitting someone? Fine, fine, fine, I’ve already arrived at the school!”
Hearing Lu Guoxun’s voice, Lu Miao panicked. Why was he here too?!
Seeing the man coming up, Lu Miao was like a mouse seeing a cat. Whoosh—she ran right back.
Fu Shiyue remained standing tall in his original spot, watching Lu Miao’s return with a calm face.
Lu Miao hurriedly hid behind him, her tone anxious. “My eldest uncle is here. Quick, help cover for me.”
Fu Shiyue turned his face, looking at the nervous girl behind him, and let out a light scoff. “What does that have to do with me?”
He reached out and pulled Lu Miao out from behind him, acting as if it were none of his business.
Lu Miao didn’t have time to explain. Seeing Lu Guoxun walk out of the stairwell, she hurriedly grabbed Fu Shiyue’s sleeve, her eyes misty. “Help me once. I’ll definitely pay back the favor I owe you.”
Fu Shiyue glanced at the small white hand Lu Miao used to grab him—slender and delicate, with her fingernails turning white from anxiety. He let out a satisfied, low laugh and said, “I’ll consider it.”
Lu Miao stomped her feet in anxiety. Seeing him still looking so breezy, she bit her lip in anger. “What is there to consider?”
He said matter-of-factly, “To solve your trouble, I pushed back my lunch meeting…”
“I’ll treat you! We’ll go eat right away!”
The corner of Fu Shiyue’s mouth curled up loosely. “Deal.”
As the word left his lips, he reached out and pressed Lu Miao’s head into his chest.
Lu Miao was dazed for a moment, her face turning red with shame and annoyance. “What are you doing…?!”
