Assistant Bai Really Does Have a Three Year Old Child - Chapter 8
In the past, when Huo Yang was filming, Bai Tan’s focus was usually placed entirely on him alone.
However, because of that sketch he had discovered by chance, his attention had gained one more subject.
Today, Yang Yueqian had completely changed his usual form. Every shot was a “one-take” success; the director even went so far as to apologize to him for his rudeness the previous day.
Yang Yueqian simply said, “It’s all thanks to Teacher Huo. He used his rest time after work yesterday to help me run my lines and gave me a lot of pointers. That’s why I have this confidence now.”
After saying this, the look in his eyes as he watched Huo Yang was clearly mixed with admiration and…
Adoration?
Ha, mutual affection?
Bai Tan stared at him for a long time. It wasn’t until the director announced that they were wrapping up to head to the venue for a promotional event that Bai Tan stood up and followed after Huo Yang.
The promotional activity was still being conducted in the form of a live stream.
Ever since graduation, Bai Tan had started his career as a professional writer. He basically never stepped through the front door or out the back one; seeing a grand occasion like this was a first for him.
However, his goal was clear: he was there only to serve Huo Yang. His gaze followed only that one person.
Before the official start, he helped Huo Yang put on his coat, tidying it and reminding him:
“Today, your lucky number is five. You can drink five glasses of red wine, and you can also take photos with five colleagues.”
After speaking, he felt himself sounding a bit superstitious.
Before he could take the words back, he heard Huo Yang give a low response:
“Mm, alright.”
Just as the voice fell, they heard the director calling people onto the stage. Bai Tan turned around and found a random table below the stage.
After a busy day, he was starving. He decided to fill his stomach first.
He had just picked up a piece of dessert and stuffed it into his mouth.
“Little Rabbit? What a coincidence to run into you here.” A familiar voice, carrying a hint of brightness, rang out from above his head.
Holding the half-eaten dessert in his hand, Bai Tan looked up and met a pair of smiling eyes.
He spent a second thinking about why Li Wenyan would be here. It was likely because the man was the boss of Huo Yang’s company; being invited to the promotion event was only logical.
“Why do you call me Little Rabbit?” Bai Tan asked curiously.
Li Wenyan sat down opposite him, his eyes brimming with a smile:
“Because you look exactly like a rabbit I raised when I was a child. The more I look, the more you look like it.”
As he spoke, Li Wenyan reached his hand across:
“Even your personality is the same. When you eat, you always leave ‘fodder’ at the corner of your mouth.”
Before Bai Tan could react, warm fingertips landed on the corner of his mouth, lightly brushing away the fruit jam.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Bai Tan wiped his mouth himself with his hand.
Li Wenyan looked at him, his eyes curving into crescents from his smile.
At this moment, the comments in the live stream room were dense:
Has Brother Yang changed stylists recently? The style is completely different from before.
Just say if it looks good or not!
I love it to death! The previous stylist must have had a selfish motive, hiding those bits of skin and not letting us see. This current stylist must get a chicken leg! A raise!
Sigh, the more I look, the more I like him. Even if I can’t marry Brother, just sleeping with him once would leave me with no regrets in life.
How about Brother lets us each sleep with him once? Please, I beg you.
One sleep for each of the hundreds of millions of fans? Brother would probably die of exhaustion.
Just as Bai Tan had said, even the smallest thing regarding an artist would occupy a spot on the trending searches. Unsurprisingly, Huo Yang hit the number one trending spot once again because of his private fashion choice.
On stage, the camera shutters and flashes were incessant. Huo Yang’s gaze pierced through the heavy army of reporters, landing on the dimly lit area below the stage.
His little assistant was currently chatting happily with his boss. He didn’t know what fun things were being said, but the little assistant’s smile was soft, rippling with warmth.
Huo Yang narrowed his eyes slightly and looked back at the camera.
After chatting for a while, Li Wenyan stood up and said to Bai Tan:
“I’m going over there to greet the sponsors. Eat slowly.”
Bai Tan nodded. As soon as the boss left, his gaze returned to the stage.
The photo session was nearing its end, reaching the final segment where the actors took group photos.
Yang Yueqian looked around at his surroundings and cautiously stood beside Huo Yang.
Seeing this, Huo Yang gave him a small smile and moved his body half a step to the side, proactively making room for him to stand.
“Teacher Huo,” he asked in a small voice, “Can I hold your arm for the photo?”
The reason Yang Yueqian dared to ask was that he was certain, based on Huo Yang’s personality, that he wouldn’t refuse.
True to his word, Huo Yang nodded and proactively extended his arm.
Yang Yueqian took a deep breath, a smile climbing onto his face. He somewhat timidly and slowly rested his hand on the crook of Huo Yang’s arm.
“Clap!”
Suddenly, a figure bumped over. Before Yang Yueqian could react, his body was violently shoved aside. His footing became unstable, and he fell straight back, sitting onto the ground.
Intentional or not, sounds of stifled laughter broke out in the crowd, though people were trying their best to restrain it.
He looked up and met a pair of narrow phoenix eyes. The corners of those eyes were turned up, revealing a domineering arrogance.
The female lead of this drama, Qiao Si, quickly held up her skirt and leaned down. She raised an eyebrow at Yang Yueqian on the floor and smiled:
“Sorry, are you okay?”
Yang Yueqian hurriedly waved his hand: “Sister Qiao Si, I’m fine.”
Then, he heard Qiao Si whisper extremely softly in his ear:
“Then get the hell out of the way.”
Having said that, she stood up, arched her brow, and reached out to hook her arm into Huo Yang’s. Her expression shifted instantly as she smiled elegantly and generously toward the camera.
One person was still sitting on the ground, but no one cared. They only aimed their lenses at the dazzling leads.
An eighteenth-tier actor with no name or fame no one cared if he was injured. This was unlike the top-tier stars; even if someone accidentally stepped on their skirt hem, it would cause a group of people to act as if they were facing a great enemy, wishing they could strip them bare to check for injuries.
Yang Yueqian pressed his palms against the floor, his teeth clenched. He silently stood up and moved to the very edge of the group photo, trying his best to put on a smile for the camera so that he wouldn’t look quite so embarrassed.
Bai Tan saw everything and sighed secretly below the stage.
In the real entertainment industry, having no fame was the original sin. Anyone could come up and trample on you.
When the group photos ended, the director informed everyone to get something to eat, as they were all hungry after a busy day.
Huo Yang casually picked up a wine glass, looked at it, and then put it down.
He counted to the fifth glass in the row and picked that one up.
People kept coming forward to try and get close to him. On the surface, he was as warm as a spring breeze, greeting them one by one, but his gaze held a hidden trace of impatience. It pierced through the air, circled around, and found Bai Tan.
Bai Tan was still clutching his massive tool bag and was also looking over his way, poised and ready, looking as if he might rush over the next second to use the small fan to blow some air on him.
Huo Yang lowered his eyes. After a moment of thought, he said to the investor in front of him, “Excuse me, I’m going over there to say hello.”
Then, he turned around and arrived beside Yang Yueqian.
“Are you okay? Did you get hurt? I didn’t have time to ask you during the photo just now.” His voice was very soft, yet high enough that Bai Tan, who was nearby, could hear it clearly.
Yang Yueqian was still holding a wine glass. After a whole round, he hadn’t taken a single sip because no one had approached him to clink glasses or exchange pleasantries.
Looking at Huo Yang’s concerned face, a thin layer of mist gradually gathered in his eyes.
He sniffed and shook his head, forcing a smile: “I’m fine, thank you Teacher Hu—”
“Brother Yang, let’s go over there and take photos. The fans are waiting.”
Before he could finish, an abrupt female voice interrupted him.
Qiao Si, holding her red wine, enthusiastically hooked her arm into Huo Yang’s and dragged him to the side.
She glanced at Yang Yueqian, her eyebrows twitching upward and then smoothing out. She offered no greeting, only a silent, meaningful smile toward him.
That smile was laced with a few hints of mockery.
Yang Yueqian watched the backs of the two as they walked away. His fingers gradually tightened, gripping the wine glass so hard that his knuckles turned a shade of pale blue.
“Teacher Yang, are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Just as he was staring deeply at their retreating backs, a young voice suddenly popped up beside him.
He retracted his expression and looked over. The person looked a bit familiar; it seemed to be Huo Yang’s assistant.
Yang Yueqian put his smile back on and shook his head: “Thank you for your concern, I’m fine.”
“Are you really okay? When you took that fall just now, I heard a very loud sound,” Bai Tan pressed.
Yang Yueqian’s face turned slightly green.
He still stubbornly shook his head.
Bai Tan nodded and patted the tool bag in his hands:
“I’m just over there. If you feel pain anywhere, come find me. I have everything in here.”
Yang Yueqian turned his face away and nodded.
Bai Tan walked a few steps, but something didn’t feel right in his heart.
He turned back again and said softly:
“Teacher Yang, actually, people like my boss who become gods with just one drama are an extreme minority. Most people move forward one step at a time. As the saying goes, the one who remains is king. As long as you don’t give up, you will eventually pick the fruit you want.”
These words felt more like Bai Tan was saying them to himself.
Once upon a time, he had also secretly envied Xiao Wan. She had become a “god” with just one book; it seemed as though both talent and luck had been bestowed upon her without reservation.
Every industry seemed to have these rare individuals.
But most people were like him, and like Yang Yueqian still guarding their positions and waiting for a chance to stand out.
He said these words also because he saw a reflection of himself in Yang Yueqian.
No name, no fame, someone anyone could come up and step on.
Yang Yueqian stared at his face, his fingers slowly curling into a fist at his side.
After a long time, he revealed a smile to Bai Tan: “Alright, I’ll take your word for it.”
Ha.
Yang Yueqian looked toward the lead actors who were surrounded by lights and cameras.
Sure enough, when you are an unknown eighteenth-tier actor, even a little assistant can come over and trample on you with sarcasm and insinuation.
On the other side.
After taking photos with the leads, Huo Yang proactively picked up a piece of pastry, hinting to the people still trying to linger that he was hungry and they could talk later.
He sat on a sofa in the corner and took a sip of red wine.
His gaze was suddenly drawn to the sponsor’s display brand nearby.
The sponsors for this drama were as numerous as ox hairs. The bulk of them were a certain big-brand perfume and luxury clothing brands.
To please the sponsors, the hosts of the promotion banquet had specifically reserved this area to display the sponsors’ new autumn products.
Huo Yang’s gaze landed among a row of exquisite perfume bottles.
He picked up one of them, turning it back and forth to examine it seriously.
This action delighted the sponsor, who rushed over immediately and said flatteringly:
“Teacher Huo, you can open it and put it on your wrist to smell it. If you like it, we will give it to you as a gift.”
Huo Yang put down the English Pear scented perfume and let his gaze fall on the others.
After a while, he lowered his voice:
“Is there any…”
“Perfume that smells like Little Milan flowers?”
The sponsor didn’t want to admit they didn’t have it:
“Since you like this scent, we will have the R&D department put it on the schedule immediately.”
Good heavens, as long as Huo Yang spoke, they had to have it even if they didn’t. Just him mentioning it like that could guarantee that Little Milan perfume would sell out!
Huo Yang put the bottle down and politely exchanged a few pleasantries with the sponsor.
It was just politeness.
Late at night.
In the back seat of the car, Huo Yang had his eyes closed, elegantly crossing his legs as he took a nap.
Bai Tan sat on one side, quietly flipping through his schedule for tomorrow.
A faint, seemingly non-existent scent of Little Milan diffused in the cramped environment.
Huo Yang opened his eyes:
“It’s getting late. You don’t need to accompany me back. Go home early and rest.”
Bai Tan looked out the window and realized they had just arrived near his home.
Calling for the driver to stop, Bai Tan stood outside the car and bowed to Huo Yang:
“Teacher Huo, please also rest early. See you tomorrow.”
Huo Yang didn’t even look at him, simply nodding.
The car sped across the wide main city road, the shadows of the streetlights rising and falling across the car body.
In the quiet car, the driver drove silently, only to suddenly hear Huo Yang in the back seat ask him:
“Uncle Li, have you smelled this fragrance before? What brand of perfume is it?”
The driver was confused and sniffed hard:
“What fragrance? I didn’t smell anything.”
Huo Yang was silent for a moment, then said: “It’s very similar to the scent of Little Milan flowers.”
“Is it because the Little Milan flowers by the roadside are blooming? I really didn’t smell it, though. But if you like it, I’ll buy a bottle of that scented car air freshener tomorrow.”
Huo Yang slowly lowered his eyes:
“No need, it’s nothing.”
He was certain he had smelled that fragrance on Bai Tan. However, after he got out of the car, the scent disappeared along with him. The driver also said he hadn’t smelled anything at all.
He closed his eyes and rubbed the back of his neck.
Was it because he was too tired?
On the other side, at the Hancheng Hotel.
Under the crystal chandelier was a two-meter-wide bed. A clean-looking young man sat quietly on the bed.
The sound of rushing water came from the suite’s bathroom.
The young man gripped the edge of his bathrobe tightly. He slowly raised his eyes, his gaze appearing slightly sharp as it landed on the frosted glass of the bathroom, watching the heavy, bloated silhouette moving behind it.
He took a deep breath, recalling the events of tonight.
That female lead who looked down on people, and that little assistant who spoke with thorns and hidden mockery.
They had brought his most pathetic side, stark naked, before Huo Yang.
He could lose face in front of anyone, but it absolutely could not be Huo Yang.
The bathroom door opened, and a satisfied sigh floated out along with the warm, humid steam.
The next second, a bathrobe was tossed onto the young man’s face.
With a “boom,” the large bed beneath him also sank violently in one spot.
“Yang Yueqian, I told you, you would definitely come back and beg me.” The man, whose fat was indistinguishable, sneered as he reached out to pull Yang Yueqian’s thin waist. A large hand began to travel over his body suggestively.
Yang Yueqian gritted his teeth tightly. He was afraid that if he opened his mouth, his suppressed agony would leak out.
“If you had been this sensible earlier, you would have been famous a long time ago.” The large hand continued to travel, finally landing between his legs.
Yang Yueqian forced down his nausea, swallowing his resentment. He put on a standard professional actor’s smile for the man in front of him:
“It was because I was young and ignorant before. I didn’t see that President Zhang is the benefactor in my life.”
“Tsk, it’s not too late to have seen the light.” President Zhang stood up and pressed him down. “Don’t worry, I definitely won’t mistreat you. Whatever you want, I will certainly do my best.”
Yang Yueqian slowly closed his eyes, masking the despair in his gaze.
He could only use his imagination to turn this disgusting man on top of him into that person who never looked down on him and showed him every kindness.
Huo Yang.
One day, he would escape this sea of suffering and make Huo Yang willing to take him into his arms.
By thinking this, the pain was not so great.
