- Chapter 5 - The Prince's Great Blunder
―Prince’s Perspective―
“Where is this?”
I was certain I’d been tasked with hosting the diplomatic envoy and had attended the party with Mary.
Then, the next thing I knew, I was sleeping in bed. The night scenery had turned to morning.
I remember Mary saying she wanted to drink lots of delicious wine.
Chugging wine at an important party.
Recalling that scene made the blood drain from my face.
Don’t tell me we made complete fools of ourselves at our crucial diplomatic debut.
“Hey, is anyone there?!”
I frantically called out for someone. But my voice was hoarse from the alcohol and didn’t reach the hallway.
‘Hey, did you hear about yesterday’s party?’
‘Yeah, I heard. Apparently, the Crown Prince and Lady Mary went on a rampage, and the trade treaty signing got postponed.’
I could hear the guards gossiping from the hallway.
I’m pretty sure this treaty with the Wolfsburg Empire was something His Majesty spearheaded through years of negotiations before they finally found a compromise, and it was supposed to be formally signed tomorrow.
‘Apparently Lady Mary called their ambassador the Potato Duke or something. No wonder he got angry and left.’
‘And he broke off his engagement with Lady Nina to choose some backwater noble who doesn’t even know table manners. What does he see in her? Pissing off the continent’s strongest land power is way too dangerous.’
‘I heard he likes her free-spirited nature and how she sees him as a person rather than just the Crown Prince.’
‘More like she’s just an idiot who doesn’t think about anything.’
‘You said it.’
What in the world happened while I was passed out drunk?
‘Seriously, the host getting blackout drunk at a diplomatic reception – is this country done for?’
‘Yeah. But apparently Margrave Franz is going to negotiate with the envoy tomorrow.’
‘Then maybe there’s hope. If we leave it to him, things usually work out.’
‘Plus, I heard Lady Nina, who’s fluent in Wolfsburgian, will be joining the negotiations too.’
‘Maybe Lady Nina gave up on the hopeless Crown Prince and ran off to Lord Franz.’
‘Actually, those two would make a good match or rather, I wish Lord Franz would become the next Emperor.’
‘Now that’s going too far!’
With that, the guards moved away from my room.
Why am I always compared to Franz?
How far will that genius go to interfere with my life?!
He’s probably laughing at me with Nina right now.
I grabbed a vase from the room and smashed it against the wall.
A tremendous crash echoed as the porcelain shattered into pieces.
“Goddammiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!”
