- Chapter 18 - Whose Hair Tie to Use?
On the day Shang Qingye was finally able to take off his star stud earrings, he arrived at Yu Qingdu’s office early.
“You are here quite early,” Yu Qingdu said. He was currently grinding beans, preparing to brew some coffee. “Want some?”
“No,” Shang Qingye replied, sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed. He declined. He simply could not develop a taste for that stuff.
“The others will be here in a bit, so you will have to wait,” Yu Qingdu said. He finished grinding the beans, bagged them, and prepared to start the pour over. “There is water over there if you are thirsty.”
“Fine.” Shang Qingye touched the stud on his earlobe.
“How is your grandmother doing?” Yu Qingdu asked while pouring the water.
“She is doing okay. Her dizziness has mostly cleared up.” Grandma Shang’s last hospitalization had been due to a bout of vertigo.
Yu Qingdu nodded and simply said, “If you need help, you can come to me.”
When it came to Grandma Shang, Shang Qingye never refused help. He gave a nod.
By the time Yu Qingdu finished his cup of coffee, Xu Yue and Qin Zhiyan had arrived.
“Qingye, you are here this early?” Xu Yue asked. Because he was close to Yu Qingdu, he had spent a fair amount of time around Shang Qingye. After a few interactions, they had become somewhat familiar with each other.
Shang Qingye’s lips curled up as he nodded. “I could not sleep, so I just came over.”
“Alright. Xu Yue, go tell Bu Qingyao she can get ready to start,” Yu Qingdu said. “Keep an eye on things for me.”
Xu Yue nodded and went out to make the arrangements.
Seeing that he had not been given a task yet, Qin Zhiyan found a sofa and sat down.
“Qin Zhiyan, come over here for a second.”
Qin Zhiyan had just sat down when he heard Yu Qingdu’s voice. After processing the instruction, he glanced at Shang Qingye. Seeing no reaction from the other man, he stood up and walked over to Yu Qingdu’s desk.
“You need to pay attention to a few things during the shoot,” Yu Qingdu began, explaining the key points to him.
As the two discussed the photography details, Shang Qingye touched his earring again.
The shoot began soon after.
Shang Qingye was wearing a white shirt with the top two buttons undone, specifically to reveal his neck and collarbones. The sleeves were rolled up twice, exposing his wrists and forearms.
“Hey, Qingye, do you have a hair tie? We need to tie back your wolf cut.”
Xu Yue was the person in charge of this shoot. He had been focused on the prop preparation and, after seeing everything set up, noticed that Shang Qingye’s wolf cut was partially blocking his ears.
Hearing this, Shang Qingye frowned imperceptibly. “I do not have a hair tie.”
Xu Yue seemed to think for a moment. His gaze swept past Yu Qingdu and landed on Bu Qingyao standing beside him. A flash of cunning crossed his eyes. “Xiao Yao, you should have a hair tie, right?”
Shang Qingye frowned again, more noticeably this time. He did not like using other people’s things.
Bu Qingyao hesitated before nodding slowly. She spoke up cautiously, “I do have one, but it is currently in my hair.”
Bu Qingyao had her hair in a ponytail today. She pointed at her head and gave a couple of fake laughs.
“That is fine, we are just borrowing it. We will give it back right after the shoot,” Xu Yue continued to fan the flames.
Bu Qingyao actually thought it would be fine, given how handsome the photographer was, but she was sharp. She kept stalling because she was determined not to do anything that might make her boss unhappy.
“Use mine.” Yu Qingdu’s voice rang out, tinged with a smile.
He slipped a black hair tie off his wrist. It had a single pink bead on it but no other decorations.
Yu Qingdu walked toward Shang Qingye with the hair tie. As he passed Xu Yue, he gave him a look, and Xu Yue responded with a smile.
He walked past Shang Qingye, meeting his gaze with a slight smile, and went behind him. He gathered the stray hairs near his collarbones and brushed them to the back. Yu Qingdu used his hair tie to pull Shang Qingye’s hair into a small sprout.
Once finished, he gently patted the back of the man’s head. As he moved past his left side, he whispered into his left ear, “Quite cute.”
He circled back to the front to take a look. With his wolf cut tied up, Shang Qingye appeared sharper. His brows, eyes, and the bridge of his nose were more prominent and defined; he looked even more handsome.
“Handsome,” Xu Yue commented fairly.
Qin Zhiyan nodded in agreement with Xu Yue.
Shang Qingye with his hair tied back felt entirely different from when it was down.
Yu Qingdu also stared at Shang Qingye for a long time, until Shang Qingye let out a cough.
Yu Qingdu snapped out of it, the corners of his mouth curling upward. He said in a loud voice, “He is drop dead handsome.”
Next was Shang Qingye’s makeup session. Yu Qingdu stayed nearby to guide the makeup artist on how to shape his features. When the look was finished, it perfectly matched what Yu Qingdu had in mind; he was quite satisfied.
“Bu Qingyao.”
Yu Qingdu called out to her.
“What is it, Boss?” Bu Qingyao ran over instantly.
“Please bring over the glass case from the still life table.”
“On it, Boss!” Bu Qingyao immediately went over and carefully carried the glass case back.
Yu Qingdu took out the earrings from the case, then removed the studs from Shang Qingye’s earlobes and put the ones for the shoot on him. He then placed a necklace around his neck and a bracelet on his wrist.
“All set. Go sit over there,” Yu Qingdu said, patting Shang Qingye’s sideburns.
There were too many people around for Shang Qingye to act out. He simply curled his lip, let out a short scoff, and glanced at Yu Qingdu.
Shang Qingye sat in the chair and posed according to Qin Zhiyan’s directions. Qin Zhiyan knelt a short distance away to take the photos.
Yu Qingdu watched quietly from the side.
This was the first time Shang Qingye had modeled under the gaze of a crowd. Because these product photos were extremely important, the shoot lasted over an hour before they finished.
After the session ended, Qin Zhiyan and Xu Yue went to select the photos. The rest of the crew began resetting the props. Yu Qingdu removed the jewelry from Shang Qingye and placed it back in the glass case. Bu Qingyao carried the case, and the three of them returned to Yu Qingdu’s office together.
Bu Qingyao carefully placed the glass case on Yu Qingdu’s desk and left. Once again, it was just the two of them in the office.
Yu Qingdu faced Shang Qingye, standing extremely close to him. He raised his hand to pick off a piece of glitter on Shang Qingye’s face that was about to fall. Shang Qingye grabbed his forearm and looked up at him.
With his wolf cut still tied up, Shang Qingye naturally looked more aggressive. His makeup had been designed to emphasize that feeling. When he lifted his eyelids, his entire presence felt exceptionally sharp.
“A piece of glitter was falling,” Yu Qingdu said, holding the tiny speck and waving it in front of the man’s eyes.
Yu Qingdu gave the glitter a casual flick, and it vanished into the air.
However, Shang Qingye did not release his forearm. Instead, he tightened his grip slightly, looked at Yu Qingdu, and spoke.
“Where are my earrings, Boss Yu?”
