As for Pink-Hair, before Falling in Love, He Insisted That He Wasn't the Possessive Type - Chapter 12
The CHDU studio had gone on break because the Spring Festival was approaching.
New Year’s Eve fell on the 24th, and they had officially started their holiday on the 21st. They were supposed to have closed earlier, but because of the MASTER GEM competition, everyone had stayed late to work.
As luck would have it, as soon as the studio went on break, Yu Qingdu fell ill.
“Cough, cough.” Yu Qingdu, wearing a mask, stood in line holding the form the doctor had given him, waiting to pay the fees.
Once he finished paying, he planned to head to the counter across the hall to pick up his medicine, but he bumped into someone right in the center of the hospital entrance.
“Yu Qingdu?” Shang Qingye called out. Even with a mask covering most of the man’s face, he recognized him by his long pink hair.
Shang Qingye pulled him a bit to the side. Seeing the thermos in Shang Qingye’s hand, Yu Qingdu followed his train of thought and asked, “Are you looking after a patient?”
When Yu Qingdu spoke, his voice was heavy with nasal congestion.
Shang Qingye was still wearing his black jacket. The two were standing quite close, and any small movement Shang Qingye made caused the leather of his jacket to brush against Yu Qingdu’s face. Since he had just come in from outside, the leather was icy cold, and Yu Qingdu found the sensation very comfortable.
“Yes, my grandmother is hospitalized,” Shang Qingye nodded.
“I see.” Yu Qingdu truly lacked the energy for social interaction. He nodded and prepared to head toward the pharmacy window to collect his medication.
Seeing how he was swaying and seemingly exhausted, Shang Qingye instinctively asked, “How did you get here?”
“I drove.” Yu Qingdu even pulled the keys out of his pocket to show him.
Looking at the sky outside as it gradually grew dark, Shang Qingye frowned slightly. He was calculating the probability of Yu Qingdu getting into an accident if he drove at night in this state.
Seeing that Shang Qingye had nothing more to say to him, Yu Qingdu turned to go get his medicine. He only wanted to grab his pills and go home; he disliked the smell of hospitals and the buildings themselves.
He had only taken a single step when he felt himself being pulled back by a strong force. Suddenly, a large, warm hand pressed against his forehead. He lifted his eyelids and looked up to see Shang Qingye looking at him with a grim expression. He seemed to hear him say, “Do you even know you have a fever?”
Yu Qingdu nodded submissively. He really felt quite miserable right now and did not want to speak.
“Why did the doctor not give you an injection?”
Yu Qingdu shook his head and said in a small voice, “I do not want one.”
“What did you say?” Shang Qingye could not hear him clearly and leaned his left ear closer.
“I do not want an injection. I hate them.” Yu Qingdu’s unusually childish tone drifted into his ear.
“Tsk.” Shang Qingye looked at him and thought for half a minute. Finally, he grabbed the other man’s arm and pulled him into the elevator.
“Come with me to my grandmother’s room first. Once I am done, I will get your medicine and take you home.”
At this point, though Yu Qingdu’s mind was sluggish, it had not completely stalled. He shook his head. “No need. I can go back by myself.”
“Tsk, stop talking nonsense. Just listen to me.” Shang Qingye firmly kept Yu Qingdu by his side.
Shang Qingye led Yu Qingdu to the fourth floor. He pulled him along the hallway and opened the door to the room at the very end, calling out, “Grandma, I brought you dinner.”
Yu Qingdu was dragged into the ward as well. He scanned the room and noticed four beds. Two were empty, and an elderly woman was sitting up in one of the occupied ones.
Upon hearing Shang Qingye’s voice, the old woman opened her eyes and said with a smile, “Xiao Ye is here.”
“Yes, I brought you food.” Shang Qingye let go of Yu Qingdu’s hand and moved the thermos to the bedside table. He opened it and took the dishes out one by one. “I steamed your favorites: taro, meatballs, and pig’s feet.”
He brought out a bowl of rice and handed it to Grandma Shang, then followed up with a pair of disposable chopsticks and a metal spoon.
Yu Qingdu’s eyelids felt heavy. He leaned against the wall by the door, watching how this man, who was so arrogant on the outside, acted so obediently in front of his grandmother.
Grandma Shang had noticed Yu Qingdu the moment he walked in. Once Shang Qingye finished speaking, she asked, “Xiao Ye, is that your friend?”
“He is my friend, Grandma,” Shang Qingye replied, following her lead.
Hearing that he was Shang Qingye’s friend, Grandma Shang smiled and beckoned to Yu Qingdu. “Xiao Ye’s friend, do not just stand there. Come sit.” She pointed to the empty hospital bed next to her.
Seeing that Grandma Shang was speaking to him, Yu Qingdu walked inward with a heavy step. “Hello, Grandma.”
The thick nasal sound of his voice startled Grandma Shang. She looked at him with concern. “Child, do you have a cold?”
Yu Qingdu nodded.
“Yes, Grandma. He is quite sick right now. I am going to take him home in a bit. Just leave the bowl there when you are finished, and I will collect it when I get back.” Shang Qingye chimed in.
Grandma Shang nodded with a serious expression. “Make sure you get him home safely. It is not safe this late at night. I will put the bowl away myself later.”
Shang Qingye nodded. “Fine. Just put the dishes under the bed, and I will take them home to wash later.”
After Shang Qingye helped Yu Qingdu get his medicine, he sat him down on a bench inside the hospital. He went to a vending machine at the entrance to buy a bottle of water, then returned and knelt in front of Yu Qingdu. He popped an Ibuprofen out of its foil pack, opened the bottle, and handed the water and the pill to him. “Have you eaten?”
Yu Qingdu nodded, put the pill in his mouth, took a sip of water, and swallowed.
Once the items were packed away, Shang Qingye led Yu Qingdu out of the hospital. The cold wind outside made Yu Qingdu feel a bit more alert. He looked at the man beside him and once again stated that he did not want to be a bother. “I really can go back on my own.”
“Car keys.” Shang Qingye held out his hand.
Yu Qingdu did not give them to him, instead staring at him blankly with exhaustion.
“Car keys,” Shang Qingye repeated.
Seeing that Yu Qingdu still did not react, he gave a tsk and reached into the pocket where the man had shown the keys earlier. He pulled them out himself. “If you are afraid of me knowing where you live,”
Yu Qingdu lifted his eyelids, expecting him to say something considerate, only to hear Shang Qingye scoff and say, “Then stay afraid.”
“Anyway, you have those semi nude photos of me, so what are you scared of? Where is the car?”
Yu Qingdu remained silent for a moment before pointing in a certain direction.
Shang Qingye led him there, pressed the key fob to find the car, and opened the passenger door. He helped Yu Qingdu into the seat and leaned over to fasten his seatbelt. A delicate fragrance mixed with the faint scent of hospital disinfectant drifted into Shang Qingye’s nose.
Yu Qingdu was wearing a mask, and Shang Qingye’s stray hairs fell against it, causing an itch that Yu Qingdu scratched at.
Shang Qingye glanced at him and got into the driver’s seat from the other side.
Just as he was starting the engine, Yu Qingdu suddenly asked, “Do you know how to drive?”
The corner of Shang Qingye’s mouth twitched. He did not look at him as he began reversing the car. “I do not.”
One look at his expression was enough to tell he knew how; Yu Qingdu did not speak again.
“Your address.”
“Tingchun Peninsula, Building A, Unit 3701.”
