Apocalypse Mode: My Cheat Code Virtual Boyfriend - Chapter 19
These ten storage lockers can be categorized into resources, tools, and food based on their contents.
The resource category covers the widest variety of items and is further divided into crafting materials, energy sources, and plants.
For maintaining the operation of the ark, energy sources are the most important. The storage lockers contain resource blocks and large bottles of fuel oil.
Resource blocks are synthesized through a garbage compactor and can be placed into a resource recycler to randomly recover various materials, including but not limited to metals, plastics, fabrics, and more. When the generator has no fuel supply, resource blocks can also be directly placed into the generator’s slots to convert into energy.
Fuel oil is produced by a fuel manufacturing machine, using various kitchen waste as raw materials. Once placed into the machine, it generates biofuel.
The principles behind these two functions shouldn’t be scrutinized too deeply. The energy conversion process could almost be described as utterly baffling. But then again, they aren’t scientists, as long as it works, who cares how it’s produced?
Bai Xun silently prayed to the heavens to treat him like a beloved grandson one more time, then yanked open the storage locker in front of him.
Inside, neatly arranged white resource blocks were stacked one on top of another, filling the entire locker.
Bai Xun stared at the locker full of white cubes and fell into deep thought.
The game had actually become scientific in places where it shouldn’t be!
As everyone knows, in-game backpacks and storage chests can hold up to 99 items per slot. But a “scientific” storage chest simply… crudely fills the entire chest with the same item.
Bai Xun called Cheng Wei over to help empty the locker of resource blocks, then counted the piles on the floor.
In the end, they counted a total of 160 blocks.
One resource block can power the generator for one hour. The ark’s electric lights and the control panel in the cockpit rely on electricity to function.
At the same time, one resource block can also randomly yield one unit of various materials. However, for now, the focus is on power generation. There are still nine large storage lockers left, and who knows how many usable materials are inside.
Bai Xun proceeded to open the next locker. This one was also completely filled with resource blocks. Without counting, he knew it was another 160 blocks. These 320 resource blocks would be enough to power the generator continuously for about 13 days.
Opening the next locker, he found it filled with biofuel. There were 90 one-liter plastic bottles of biofuel in total. Three bottles could sustain the ark’s navigation engine for 12 hours, while one bottle could power the generator for 24 hours.
Next, Bai Xun inventoried the remaining storage lockers, recording all items in a memo.
Crafting materials included 30 iron blocks, 25 copper ingots, 10 gold ingots, 15 silver ingots, 30 steel bars, 50 pieces of synthetic plastic, 30 bottles of natural resin, 60 iron nails, 30 wooden planks, 40 lumps of clay, 20 rolls of fabric, 60 natural dyes, and 30 bundles of rope.
The plant category was divided into harvested plants and plant seeds.
Among the harvested plants, the edible ones included 23 beetroots, 30 cherry radishes, 40 potatoes, 7 coconuts, 15 cauliflowers, 10 cabbages, 5 bunches of celery, 6 cucumbers, 12 zucchinis, 8 onions, and 21 parsnips.
Bai Xun stored all of them in the kitchen simulator to extend their preservation time.
There were 10 balsam flowers, 12 madder plants, 15 knotweed plants, 17 saffron crocuses, and 10 bugbane plants, all dye plants used for making dyes.
There was only one packet of seeds for each type: cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, celery, tomato, onion, parsnip, strawberry, potato, corn, cucumber, lettuce, celery, tulip, iris, hydrangea, and rose seeds.
Each packet contained only about 30 to 40 seeds. Except for flowers and some plants that produce multiple fruits per seed, the yield from one packet was quite limited.
Bai Xun could already imagine the days ahead where he’d be eating strawberries, potatoes, corn, and cucumbers until he was sick of them, with the occasional rose petals to spice up his diet.
The tools included shovels, hoes, sickles, watering cans, fishing spears, fishing nets, fishing traps, and two sets of diving suits. Aside from the diving suits, nothing else was particularly noteworthy.
The food category delivered a dual sensory assault, both olfactory and psychological.
As he pulled open the storage cabinet door, a pair of icy, abyssal eyes stared back at him. In the ink-black pupils, he saw his own reflection, hand still gripping the door.
Behind him, Cheng Wei’s ears flattened like airplane wings the moment the cabinet opened, and the fur on his tail puffed up like a spiky sea urchin. Snow leopards, being felines, were easily startled.
Bai Xun slowly closed the cabinet door and opened it again.
Star Game System, come out here! Explain why there’s a half-human-sized octopus staring at me from inside the storage cabinet! I nearly lost my soul!
Besides the octopus, there were also tuna, mackerel, lobster, sea urchin, ribbonfish, flounder, sea cucumber, and a whole assortment of seafood, a cabinet full of fishy odors.
Admittedly, the storage cabinet did an excellent job of sealing in smells. When he opened it, he never expected to find a cabinet full of seafood.
Take it away, take it all away, straight into the kitchen simulator.
The next cabinet was much better. It contained chicken, venison, wild boar, and beef, without the overpowering fishy smell of seafood.
In the game, these foods had no expiration date and could stay fresh forever. But after being brought into the real world, their shelf life began counting down based on when the Ark was activated.
The last cabinet opened to reveal steaming hot food: fish and chips, tonkotsu ramen, parsnip soup, cabbage pancakes, pan-fried ribbonfish, grilled lobster… At least half a month’s worth of meals without needing to cook.
Bai Xun swore to himself that he would never store food anywhere but the refrigerator in any future games.
After checking all the cabinets, he roughly calculated that, based on his memory of the Sea Ark game, he had lost about four-fifths of his supplies. But the remaining one-fifth was more than enough to keep him happy for a long time.
What a huge win! They already had their own food and supplies, and now they had unexpected gains on top of having a place to live. Their happiness index skyrocketed!
His stomach growled in protest. After all the excitement, Bai Xun had almost forgotten they hadn’t eaten breakfast yet.
Grabbing some of the food from the Ark, they returned from the basement to the first floor to have breakfast together.
Bai Yu and Bai Guifang were not on the first floor. After sitting for a while, they put on their raincoats again and went out to bring back the supplies from the assembled boat on the deck.
Several tightly packed bundles wrapped in waterproof bags were placed in the open space between the living room and the dining room.
Bai Xun moved the bundles aside, then opened the door and called them back to have breakfast first.
The parsnip soup, cabbage pancakes, and grilled lobster were still warm on the dining table. These Western dishes were being tasted as breakfast for the first time.
Bai Xun took a sip of the parsnip soup, which had been simmered with chicken broth and then blended into a puree.
The originally slightly sweet flavor of the parsnip, after being sautéed, carried a hint of the unique charred aroma of tubers. The pureed texture felt a bit strange to eat, but the taste was still quite good.
Cheng Wei was a carnivore, and his first bite went straight to the half-cut grilled lobster in front of him. The lobster had only been grilled over charcoal, and a little salt was sprinkled on the cooked lobster meat to savor its natural sweetness.
The cabbage pancakes were relatively ordinary, just shredded cabbage mixed with an egg, then wrapped in a pancake. One cabbage pancake was made, similar in concept to a hand-held pancake.
However, upon the first bite, the cabbage was fresh and sweet, the fried egg was soft and tender, and the pancake skin was slightly chewy and resilient, making it quite enjoyable.
After finishing breakfast and resting for a while, they put on their raincoats and rain boots again and headed out.
Grandma Bai also wanted to go with them, but she was persuaded to stay inside and organize the items. A 70-year-old shouldn’t go out in the wind and rain, catching a cold wouldn’t be pleasant.
Outside, the wind carried rain that seeped everywhere. Even with raincoats on, it still hit the windbreakers underneath, and the rainwater slid down the hems of the windbreakers back onto the deck.
The waves stirred by the strong wind made the boat begin to rock, though it was still within tolerable limits for now. They continued moving things.
The six chickens forgotten on the assembled boat were finally remembered. Lifting the waterproof cloth, they found them all still alive, though their spirits were low, huddled dazedly in the chicken coop.
They were handed over to Grandma Bai, an expert at raising chickens who could surely work wonders.
The items tied to the rubber boats were all fine. The waterproofing measures were well done, and even if some water leaked through the edges of the covered waterproof cloth into the rubber boats, it didn’t cause any substantial damage.
After moving all the bundles from the two rubber boats, it was time to move the items inside the tent.
The tent contained sleeping bags, clothes, and wool blankets, which would get soaked as soon as they were taken out.
There wasn’t much else left to move, so Bai Xun simply asked his mother and sister to go back first. He and Cheng Wei could handle the rest.
Bai Xun’s idea was to drag the tent directly under the eaves. That way, even if it got rained on, it would only get a little wet and could be dried quickly in front of the fireplace.
Before that, they needed to separate the two rubber boats and the two inflatable floating platforms.
If the internet still had a signal, Bai Xun would definitely leave a glowing review for this industrial-strength adhesive and send a 500-word praise email directly to the company. Whether it was for sticking doors or boats, this industrial-strength adhesive had perfectly completed the task.
Bai Xun hadn’t bought a catalyst to dissolve the adhesive, but he could try using white vinegar. He’d heard that white vinegar could help soften it a bit.
After dragging the composite boat under the eaves and tidying up the items in the tent, they dismantled the tent, deflated the rubber dinghy and inflatable platform, left the aluminum alloy base outside, and carried the stuck-together rubber dinghy and inflatable platform to the workshop on the first basement level to sort out slowly.
When he brought out the vinegar, Cheng Wei stopped him, explaining that vinegar could corrode rubber products. They could try using a small knife to carefully cut apart the glued sections.
