An Obsessive Alpha Covets The Honest Beta - Chapter 2
When Li You woke up, Lin Xun had already been gone for a while.
He hadn’t said goodbye, which actually made Li You sigh with relief.
Opening the window, the scent of cedar drifted out into the air. Li You stood by the window, lost in thought for a moment, when he suddenly felt a strange sensation in his chest; it both ached and itched, rubbing uncomfortably against his pajamas.
He thought to himself: It’s probably just chafed from tossing and turning too much last night.
Lin Zhaoning hadn’t been home for two days. Li You knew this clearly in his heart, yet he didn’t dare to utter a single word of confrontation to his husband.
They had gotten married not long after that car accident. Lin Zhaoning’s mental state had been poor, so Li You resigned from his job to accompany his husband to see a psychiatrist, caring for him tirelessly without a single complaint.
Now, three years later, Li You suddenly realized that he was like a domesticated stray cat.
The home that seemed to shelter him from the wind and rain was actually dilapidated to its core, and the vow they once made to spend a lifetime as a devoted pair had long been diluted by the torrent of time, blowing away with the wind.
No matter how out of line Lin Zhaoning acted, the Lin family always stood behind him. But as for Li You, he had never seen his father for as long as he could remember, and his mother had passed away from illness when he was in his second year of middle school. If he left Lin Zhaoning, there was no one standing behind him.
Li You was planning to find a job.
Before he even had the chance to submit his resume, the doorbell rang.
The courier outside the door handed him a package that required him to sign for it in person; his name was written on the shipping label.
After seeing off the courier, Li You unpacked the parcel.
Dozens of high-definition photos of two people intruded explicitly into his field of vision, and the protagonist in the photos was none other than his husband.
On a pristine white king-sized bed, an Alpha intimately kissed the back of an Omega’s neck gland from behind, solemn and earnest, looking just like someone treating a rare and priceless treasure.
And this was already the photo with the lowest level of explicit exposure.
Li You didn’t dare to keep looking through them. With trembling hands, he sealed the photos back up. His heart pounded wildly, feeling as though it were frantically trying to leap out of his chest. He pulled open a drawer at random; as he placed the photos inside, they were blocked by an object. It was a book.
Most of the books in the house were kept in the study. When had a book appeared here?
Li You knelt on one knee on the floor, feeling around to pull the book out.
The clash of light green and dark blue brought a striking visual impact. On the top-right corner of the book cover’s green background, a man wearing a vintage gentleman’s hat had his back turned to him, and a line of English text was written in the center of the cover: The Picture of Dorian Gray.
The Picture of Dorian Gray- that was the name of the book.
It was Lin Zhaoning’s book, and by the looks of it, it had been flipped through many times. Li You had always respected his husband’s privacy and wouldn’t mess with his things without permission. Just as he was thinking of putting the book back exactly as it was, a photo unexpectedly fell out from between its pages.
Most of the face of the Beta in the photo was buried in a blanket, making his features unidentifiable. However, from his body shape and the small portion of his profile that was exposed, Li You could vaguely recognize that it was himself.
It was probably taken by Lin Zhaoning while he was asleep.
“There are only two kinds of people who are really fascinating, people who know absolutely everything, and people who know absolutely nothing.”
Whether Lin Zhaoning had chosen to clip the photo into this specific page intentionally or unintentionally was impossible for Li You to know. Just at that moment, Lin Zhaoning sent him a message asking him to make time to return to the old family mansion that evening.
Li You closed his eyes and swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing intensely. In the end, as always, he obediently replied to the message.
Despite having a few years of work experience, finding a job after being unemployed at home for three years was no easy task.
Li You interviewed at several companies in the afternoon, but the results were disappointing.
Almost all the HR interviewers told him to go home and wait for a notification. Li You knew there was basically no hope. After running around for the entire afternoon in the hot weather, sticky sweat clung to his body, making him feel thoroughly uncomfortable.
As dusk approached, Lin Zhaoning called him again, saying that something urgent had come up and he couldn’t pick him up. His voice was soft as he apologized, coaxing Li You to go back to the old mansion by himself first.
Li You let out an obedient “mm.” Lin Zhaoning seemed to be in a good mood, saying a few more words that were mostly praising him for being very good and sensible.
When Li You drove back to the old mansion, Lin Zhaoning had not arrived yet.
Lin Xun was also there.
When Li You entered the door, Father Lin was talking with Lin Xun. Lin Xun was leaning lazily back in his chair, seemingly not very interested in responding, letting his father speak while not even bothering to give a token reply.
Father Lin let out a silent sigh. Seeing Li You arrive, it was hard to continue his lecture, so he motioned for Li You to come over and sit down. In front of Lin Xun, he reprimanded Li You: “You and Zhaoning have been married for three years, haven’t you thought about having a child?”
Lin Xun was initially flicking a lighter. Upon hearing this, the lid closed with a click, and his gaze swept over toward the restless, uncomfortable Li You. The Beta was so anxious that tiny beads of sweat formed on the tip of his nose; with a pale face, he said embarrassedly, “A-Ning doesn’t plan to have children for the time being.”
Lin Xun let out a laugh from the side, seemingly mocking him.
Li You’s face suddenly flushed redder.
He didn’t know why Lin Xun was laughing at him, but doing so in front of everyone made him feel extremely mortified.
Ignoring the dissatisfied look his father sent his way, Lin Xun held a cigarette between his fingertips. He narrowed his eyes, looking at Li You through the swirling smoke: “In that case, it seems Sister-in-law wants a child very much?”
Li You seemed to realize why Lin Xun was mocking him.
Because it was almost impossible for a Beta to conceive; even if the reproductive cavity were forcibly opened up, the probability of pregnancy was only around 15%.
Lin Xun kept his eyes on him, raising a finger to flick away the cigarette ash before stubbing out the cigarette that was still more than half-full.
Although he had laughed just a moment ago, there wasn’t much warmth on his face now. Lin Xun maintained a stern expression, staring at Li You in a way that sent a chill down his spine.
Lin Xun believed this Beta had become stupid enough to try using a child to tie down a cheating husband.
Li You spoke up in extreme fear and trepidation: “N-No…”
Lin Xun stood up, his shoe kicking against the leg of the chair and making a loud noise. The household servants kept their heads bowed without uttering a word, and no one in the living room dared to scold him.
His husband was cheating, his job hunt had hit a wall, and upon returning home, he was inexplicably picked on by Lin Xun. Li You’s eyes turned disappointingly red.
When Lin Zhaoning returned, this was the exact scene he walked into.
“Father!”
Lin Zhaoning rushed over to shield Li You behind him, speaking with dissatisfaction: “If you want a child, we can just adopt one. Why make things difficult for Xiao You!”
Father Lin looked at his eldest son with disappointment and frustration.
His late wife had passed away early, before Lin Zhaoning was old enough to remember things. After remarrying and having his younger son, he had always felt indebted to his eldest son; back when he wanted to marry an ordinary Beta, he, as a father, couldn’t say much against it either.
But how could his offspring not be of his own blood?
Adopt? How absurd!
“You are truly confused!”
“No matter how close an adopted child is, it’s still not your own blood!”
“But you clearly know that Xiao You can’t have children at all!”
Lin Zhaoning argued fiercely on valid grounds. In fact, there was no fault to be found in what he said, because only a tiny minority of Betas could endure the agony of having their reproductive cavity forcibly opened.
Li You silently watched the Alpha shielding him from the front.
Lin Zhaoning was still defending him in front of his parents just like before. In the past, it might have been out of protection for a loved one, but what about now?
He could have taken advantage of this situation to form a united front with Father Lin to force a divorce, and then openly welcome that Omega outside into their home.
The argument gradually subsided, and Lin Zhaoning found Li You in the back garden.
Li You was sitting on a swing, dangling his legs; he had been contemplating the motivation behind Lin Zhaoning’s behavior the entire time.
“Xiao You,” Lin Zhaoning sat down beside him, wrapping an arm around him from behind. After deliberating for a long while, he spoke: “Don’t take Father’s words to heart. If you like children, we’ll adopt one.”
Li You blinked, looking calmly at the Alpha: “A Beta still has a chance of getting pregnant. I want to try.”
Lin Zhaoning’s expression stiffened slightly, revealing a flaw for a fraction of a second, which was keenly caught by Li You.
Indeed.
Li You’s tightly clenched fingers released their force, loosening up. The corners of his mouth tugged into a slight smile: “Forget it, it hurts too much.”
Lin Zhaoning breathed a sigh of relief, putting his arm around Li You’s shoulders to comfort him: “Yeah, Xiao You is most afraid of pain; I can’t bear to let you suffer.”
Li You showed no expression on his face and didn’t respond. The arm Lin Zhaoning had around him paused; he then moved around to the front, unbuttoning Li You’s shirt buttons, and kissed the red mark on his collarbone.
“I was drunk last time and did something bad to you. I’ll take you to get scar removal surgery another day.”
On the second-floor balcony, Lin Xun took in all of their actions.
His knuckles popped loudly as he clenched his hands. Lin Xun pulled up a phone number and sent that person a text message.
Three minutes later, Lin Zhaoning received a call. When he returned, his tone was much more anxious. After hastily giving a few instructions, he left in a hurry with the driver.
Li You buttoned up his shirt and turned his head away, no longer watching his husband’s departing back.
That scar on his collarbone was made a few months ago when Lin Zhaoning burned him with a cigarette butt while drunk.
After sobering up, Lin Zhaoning had held him and repented for a long time.
Li You had a soft nature. Seeing his usually gentle husband weeping bitterly, he didn’t feel good inside either, so he didn’t pursue the matter.
However, twelve years was ultimately too long, long enough to coat Lin Zhaoning in a halo of light that ended up blinding Li You’s own eyes.
Li You dragged his exhausted body and drove home, running into Lin Xun again on the road.
The moment he saw Lin Xun, he felt apprehensive in his heart, though he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what he was afraid of regarding this Alpha.
Lin Xun said he would give Li You a ride home since he was on his way.
Li You refused.
Lin Xun didn’t say anything; he just stood quietly to the side, watching as Li You’s car failed to start its engine.
“…Then I’ll have to trouble you.”
Lin Xun glanced at Li You through the rearview mirror and drove silently, yet the irritation in his heart grew stronger.
Really lacking any sense of manners.
He doesn’t even know how to address people anymore.
The atmosphere inside the car was suffocating. Li You would get carsick if he looked at his phone, so he could only pretend to sleep.
When the car engine completely shut off, Li You opened his eyes and tried to push the car door open, but it wouldn’t budge.
“I’m home.”
Li You reminded him cautiously.
Lin Xun uttered a nonchalant “Oh.” Leaning half his body toward Li You, the scent of a full-grown male Alpha enveloped him completely. Li You sat there, not daring to move.
“You forgot to unbuckle your seatbelt.”
Lin Xun unbuckled the seatbelt for him, but the car door remained locked.
Li You braced himself and spoke: “Xunxun, the door…”
The car door unlocked instantly.
Just before he stepped out of the car, Li You’s wrist was grabbed by someone.
The Alpha pressed against the skin of his wrist in an almost domineering manner. His dark, deep eyes stared straight at Li You, his voice low, raspy, and immensely seductive: “Sister-in-law, you call my name so nicely.”
Li You’s skin felt as if it had been burned. His eyes widened larger than usual, and his earlobes turned blood-red.
What nonsense is he babbling about?!
“You… let go of me!”
Li You panicked because he saw a terrifying sense of possessiveness in the Alpha’s eyes.
That repulsion and anxiety stemming from the depths of his heart finally had an explanation.
“Sister-in-law, he’s cheating on you.”
Lin Xun wasn’t very satisfied with Li You’s struggling. The hand gripping those wrists tightened further, and his body leaned in even closer.
Li You had an illusion that if he moved recklessly even a bit more, Lin Xun’s lips would instantly press against his.
“S-So what!”
Li You didn’t dare to move recklessly, letting out a low-voiced roar that he thought sounded full of momentum; to Lin Xun, however, it sounded like the harmless threat of a defanged beast cub.
Li You saw Lin Xun smile briefly. Following that, cold lips brushed close to his earlobe, lightly touching it, coaxing him step by step: “Don’t you want to take revenge on him?”
Li You was not that senseless. Compared to ending things in a mutual destruction where both sides suffered, he was more willing to leave each other some dignity and fulfill Lin Zhaoning’s desires, simply getting a divorce so they could part ways peacefully.
“Sister-in-law,” Lin Xun lowered his voice to an extreme degree, asking solemnly and expressionlessly: “Isn’t it good to have an affair with me?”
He said this in such a dignified, high-sounding manner that it delivered quite a shock to Li You.
An… an affair?
This was truly too shameful to put into words.
Li You had scored full marks in thought and moral ethics exams ever since he was a child.
For something like this, just having it brought up out loud was enough to make one feel humiliated and enraged.
Li You went through a fierce internal struggle, every bit of which criticized and spurned Lin Xun’s out-of-line behavior.
Lin Xun’s thumb rubbed against Li You’s collarbone again: “He kissed you here today, don’t you feel it’s very dirty?”
Li You pushed the Alpha’s head away, utterly flustered and exasperated. With red rims around his eyes, he shouted: “You know it’s dirty too!”
Lin Xun merely brushed his thumb over Li You’s eyelid, subsequently using action to prove whether he thought it was dirty or not.
He forcefully clamped down on Li You’s wrists, lowered his head to bite off that pitiful button, and bit down hard right on the spot Lin Zhaoning had kissed.
This bite was exceptionally heavy, causing Li You to let out a muffled groan of pain. The scar that had already healed split open once again, and traces of fresh blood stained Lin Xun’s lips.
Lin Xun licked his lips with lingering desire, then held Li You’s head and kissed him passionately.
Even though Li You was completely unwilling, he was bullied by the crazy Alpha into letting out whimpering cries.
Lin Xun absolutely adored this pitiable, endearing appearance of Li You.
So obedient.
He’s already like this from just a kiss; if I go deeper, he’ll probably cry for a very long time.
This time, Li You had truly been made dirty.
Anger, humiliation, intense grievance, and unwillingness surged into his heart all at once, and large, scalding tears slid down his face.
Lin Xun had finally bullied the person to tears. Instead of reflecting on his despicable behavior, the culprit sat to the side, admiring the view with unexhausted pleasure.
Sister-in-law looks so beautiful when he cries.
How can he be so good at crying?
I should lock him up and let him cry to his heart’s content.
Li You used his sleeve to wipe away the fluid lingering at the corner of his mouth. He raised his hand and slapped Lin Xun across the face, causing the Alpha’s head to turn to the side and leaving a bright red palm print on his cheek.
This was probably the first time in Li You’s life that he had hit someone, and the person he hit was a dangerous lunatic.
Lin Xun’s face turned as cold as frost. He turned his head back inch by inch, grabbing Li You’s hand, and questioned in a cold voice: “Would you hit him like this too?”
Li You faltered, unable to speak.
Unsure of what reaction had pleased the Alpha, Lin Xun’s expression changed instantly, as if the pervert who had just bullied Li You wasn’t him at all. He gently straightened Li You’s collar, his eyes flashing with a light of warning as he said softly: “Be good. You’re not allowed to reward him.”
Li You practically scrambled and crawled out of the car, not daring to look back, glancing left and right like a thief, hopefully no one saw.
Lin Xun sat inside the car, watching through the glass as Li You fled in panic.
Only when his figure completely disappeared did the Alpha lean back against the seat, his eyelids half-closed as he took a deep breath, inhaling the pleasant fragrance inside the car.
Li You was indeed a Beta, but his body smelled so good.
That bright red palm print hadn’t fully faded yet. It seemed Lin Xun’s shamelessness had succeeded greatly, truly driving the person to genuine anger.
Lin Xun flexed his fingers and brushed them across the half of his cheek Li You had touched. The emotions deep within his eyes were hazily intertwined, making them impossible to decipher.
His moral standards are quite lofty.
Too bad they’re useless.
