- Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother
- Chapter 97 - No Need to Dress So Well in Front of Her
Although Huo Zhenzhou had moved out, his parents often asked him to come back for meals.
That evening: “Tomorrow, the client from the U.S. is arriving. You’ve all seen his profile, he values family, so this time, A’Ye, you and Susu will handle the reception together.”
Li Su nodded slightly, while Huo Xuanye readily agreed.
Huo Zhenzhou said nothing. He was divorced, that was the reality, and there was nothing more to say.
The next day, Li Su and Huo Xuanye went to the airport to pick up the guests.
First, they had a meal together. In the afternoon, Huo Xuanye and the client went to the company for a meeting, while Li Su accompanied the client’s wife for shopping and afternoon tea. After dinner, they all attended a concert together before seeing the guests off to their hotel.
Hosting clients was exhausting work.
“Tired?”
Huo Xuanye leaned close to her face. “Hmm?”
“A little.”
Huo Xuanye scooped her up in his arms and carried her into a nearby guest room.
Li Su looped her arms around his neck. “You scheming man, you actually booked another room?”
Huo Xuanye answered matter-of-factly, “When accompanying clients, of course we have to stay together.”
Was he sure it wasn’t just for a change of scenery and some novelty?
Li Su didn’t call him out. Tonight, she was too tired to move anyway.
The two entered the hotel bathroom, where a pristine white double bathtub stood right before the floor-to-ceiling window, offering a view of the bustling nightscape outside.
“Playing this bold?”
Li Su tightened the bathrobe around her.
“It’s one-way glass, no one can see in.”
She had guessed as much, but still…
She couldn’t do it.
She could only accept such a window if it overlooked natural scenery, not city streets.
What if?
The world had too many perverts.
Li Su drew the curtains shut, then turned to see a flicker of disappointment in Huo Xuanye’s eyes.
“We agreed, after the show wraps up, we’ll go on vacation somewhere secluded. You can have your floor-to-ceiling windows then, whatever you want.”
Huo Xuanye eagerly stepped forward.
Li Su pressed her fair, delicate fingers against his chest. “But in the capital, behave yourself. Your wife here is, after all, a public figure.”
He grasped her wrist, lowering his head to trail kisses up her arm. “Fine, as you say.”
In the steam-filled bathroom, the two sat in the bathtub, white foam floating atop the water, concealing their bodies. Only their heads remained above, pressed together as they kissed.
The atmosphere was intimate, romantic, if not for the overwhelming heat.
The next day, Huo Xuanye signed the contract with the client.
As Zhuang Ze went to see the guests off, Zhuo Yang entered the office.
“Second Young Master, the eldest hasn’t come to the company since yesterday. I can’t reach him.”
“Could something have happened?”
Huo Xuanye, about to take a sip of water, set his cup down. “Have you checked his place?”
“No, I thought he’d come in today. I’ll go now.”
Zhuo Yang turned to leave.
Huo Xuanye moved faster.
Though they were rivals in love…
He was still his own brother!
The moment Huo Xuanye heard Huo Zhenzhou was unreachable, he grew concerned.
As he walked, he dialed Huo Zhenzhou’s number.
No answer.
His brother not picking up was rare.
On the way to Huo Zhenzhou’s place, Huo Xuanye sat in the passenger seat. “You know he’s been sick, right?”
“I know.”
“So… has he gotten any better?”
“I don’t know. The young master doesn’t want to talk about it. His inner turmoil is probably something only he truly understands.” Worried, Zhuo Yang drove at high speed.
They arrived at Huo Zhenzhou’s home.
Huo Xuanye didn’t know the passcode.
As Huo Zhenzhou’s assistant, Zhuo Yang knew it.
After opening the door, the two entered together.
The curtains in the room were all drawn, making it dark and silent.
Staying in such an environment would naturally feel oppressive.
“The second young master is here!”
Huo Xuanye rushed into the bathroom to find Huo Zhenzhou submerged in the bathtub, his face pale.
“Brother!”
Huo Xuanye dashed over, checking Huo Zhenzhou’s neck, still a pulse.
What a fright.
He had thought his brother had committed suicide.
Huo Xuanye and Zhuo Yang carried Huo Zhenzhou from the bathtub to the bed.
He called for a doctor.
While waiting, Huo Xuanye pulled open the curtains in the room. “Does he often do this?”
“The president has indeed been fond of taking baths lately. He says he always feels dirty, like he can’t wash himself clean.”
Is this the root of his brother’s condition?
Could it be because of what he had said?
Back then, those words were meant to keep his brother from competing with him for Li Su.
The doctor arrived and started an IV for Huo Zhenzhou.
“Second Young Master, if you’re busy, I can stay and watch over him.”
“You go ahead. I’ll stay.”
Zhuo Yang glanced at Huo Zhenzhou on the bed. “Alright…”
Though the second young master’s current wife was once the first young master’s ex-fiancée.
They were, after all, brothers.
Zhuo Yang believed the second young master wouldn’t do anything untoward.
After Zhuo Yang left, Huo Xuanye stayed alone with Huo Zhenzhou.
The quiet room was suddenly interrupted by a phone ring.
Huo Xuanye picked up the phone as Huo Zhenzhou on the bed opened his eyes.
His eyelids were heavy, he barely opened them before closing them again.
It seemed like a struggle.
Huo Xuanye walked to the living room to answer the call. “Sweetheart.”
“Weren’t we supposed to have lunch together at noon? Where are you?”
“I’m at my brother’s place. He-”
Huo Xuanye hesitated but decided to tell Li Su the truth.
After hearing him out, Li Su said, “I’m coming right away.”
“No rush, take your time. He still needs to finish the IV.”
Huo Xuanye hung up and returned to the bedroom.
Huo Zhenzhou lay pale on the bed, looking utterly drained.
“Brother, just one day, one day apart, and you’ve ended up like this. If we hadn’t come, you might have drowned in that bathtub!” Huo Xuanye gripped his phone. “The brother I know wouldn’t let himself fall into such despair.”
Huo Zhenzhou said nothing, his eyes blankly fixed on the ceiling.
“Susu is coming soon.”
At the mention of Li Su’s name, Huo Zhenzhou reacted.
“Get me some clothes,” he said.
Huo Xuanye handed him a set of pajamas. “Will these do?”
“Huo Xuanye!”
“Brother, she’s my wife. You don’t need to dress up for her.” Huo Xuanye tossed the pajamas beside him. “She’ll only look at me, not you.”
Huo Zhenzhou glared coldly at him.
“Fine, fine. Everyone has their vanity.”
Huo Xuanye went back to the closet and fetched a white shirt and black trousers. “You’re not exactly in a state to dress up.”
“I can’t just stay undressed.”
“Sorry, sorry. But you can’t blame me, you were lying naked in the bathtub.” Huo Xuanye didn’t want Li Su to see Huo Zhenzhou undressed either.
He had to help his brother get dressed.
Li Su arrived with lunch.
When she got there, Huo Zhenzhou was sitting on the sofa with an IV drip beside him.
“Why aren’t you lying down?”
Huo Xuanye took the items from Li Su’s hands. “Don’t blame me, he insisted on sitting up himself. Probably because we’re guests. It wouldn’t be polite for the host to greet visitors while lying in bed.”
Li Su gave a slight nod. That made sense.
Huo Zhenzhou’s lips twitched. What kind of sense was that?
He didn’t want Li Su to see him in such a sorry state.
