Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother - Chapter 78
Before the New Year, Li Su received an invitation to the variety show Dance Beyond Limits.
She was still in her recovery phase, so the show invited her to serve as either a mentor or a judge, anything but a contestant.
Li Su had always loved participating in dance-related projects, so after less than ten minutes of consideration, she decided to check it out.
She arrived early, and the staff led her to the meeting room.
The proposal was already laid out on the table. She had reviewed it on her phone beforehand but flipped through it again now.
“Li Su, what are you doing here? I thought you were resting at home to recover!”
“Is your leg better?”
Even without looking up, Li Su recognized Lin Yaoqing’s voice.
And she wasn’t fooled by the thinly veiled sarcasm.
Li Su smiled. “Me being here isn’t surprising. You being here is the real shock. After getting cut from the Spring Festival Gala, I thought you’d be crying under your blankets.”
Lin Yaoqing’s face twisted in frustration as she sat down across from Li Su.
Infuriating!
Absolutely infuriating!!
People who’ve known each other since childhood know exactly how to hit where it hurts.
Refusing to back down, Lin Yaoqing fired back, “You can’t even dance anymore, yet the show still invited you as a mentor. Can you even demonstrate anything?”
Li Su replied calmly, “With my outstanding track record—how many awards I’ve won, you know that better than I do.”
There had been countless competitions where Li Su took first place and Lin Yaoqing came in second.
Lin Yaoqing was seething. “Tsk, tsk. That ex-fiancé of yours disappeared for three months and ended up marrying some plain nobody. After all those years together, you two never even tied the knot!”
Li Su finally looked up.
When it came to hitting Li Su where it hurt, Huo Zhenzhou was the trump card.
Just as Lin Yaoqing was reveling in her small victory, Li Su said in an even tone, “If you like him, he’s divorced now. You could always shoot your shot.”
“Me? Like him? As if! What’s there to like about some secondhand man?”
“If I liked him, what would that say about me? I’d be no better than that convicted woman!”
“Why would I ever want a man you threw away?!”
The verbal boomerang struck Lin Yaoqing square in the chest, her face flushing red with anger.
Why couldn’t she ever out-talk Li Su?!
As if to twist the knife, Li Su added, “Oh, by the way, the magazine feature with my husband is going on presale soon. If you’re interested, I can send you a copy.”
“Ughhhhhh!”
Lin Yaoqing shrieked in frustration.
Everyone’s impression of Li Su was that she was gentle, poised, graceful, kind, and virtuous, but in reality, she had a razor-sharp tongue!
Will no one speak up for me?!
Lin Yaoqing grabbed the glass of water on the table and gulped it down.
Li Su’s lips curled slightly.
After cooling off for a moment, Lin Yaoqing struck again, “You’re really something. Couldn’t marry the older brother, so you settled for the younger one. Is the Li family going bankrupt or something?”
“Nope, nope, nope.” Li Su wagged a finger. “It’s a power couple situation.”
“I don’t believe it!”
Believe it or not.
Who cared what she believed?
Outside the door, a few people exchanged glances.
Should they go in now?
Would the two keep talking?
Only when silence fell inside did they finally enter.
Aside from Li Su and Lin Yaoqing, the show had two other judges: Zhao Bo and Lu Jun.
Both had returned from abroad, where they had been dance specialists in popular boy bands, and were currently riding a wave of fame.
This show was all about boosting exposure and gaining fans.
But Li Su didn’t want to gather dust at home while recovering. Having something to do was better than just staying home all day with nothing but rehab on the agenda.
The show’s production team had invited Li Su and Lin Yaoqing precisely because of the buzz the two of them could generate.
Filming wouldn’t start until after the Spring Festival, and they were still in the process of selecting contestants.
The meeting lasted three hours.
By the time she stepped out, Li Su felt the weight of work clinging to her, it had been too long since she’d last been on the job.
Lin Yaoqing walked out with her, while the other two and the show’s executives remained in the conference room.
Once inside the elevator, Lin Yaoqing spoke first, “Even though we’re usually competitors, on this show, we can’t let the two male mentors outshine us.”
“It’s not about us competing, it’s the contestants.”
“I know, but the contestants we pick can’t lose to theirs. Did you see how those two were acting all high and mighty earlier? Just because they’ve worked abroad and debuted before, so what? If they’re so amazing, why did they come back?”
“Their group flopped. Neither of them is popular.”
“And yet they’re already throwing their weight around!”
Lin Yaoqing was so angry she wanted to kick something, her expression full of disdain.
Li Su, meanwhile, was replying to a message from Huo Xuanye.
He was waiting for her at the TV station’s entrance.
“Are you even listening to me? Whose message is so important?”
Lin Yaoqing peeked curiously.
[Huo Xuanye: Wife, are you done? I’m waiting downstairs for you~]
Waiting for you~?
Huo Xuanye, with his usual cool, aloof demeanor, why did his texts to Li Su sound so playful?
~Waiting~
Lin Yaoqing scoffed, “I don’t get the vibe that you two are all that close!”
Li Su asked casually, “How so?”
“You haven’t even changed his contact name!”
Huo Xuanye.
So formal!
Was the contact name really that big of a deal?
When they reached the underground parking lot, Li Su headed straight for the car with its hazard lights on.
Huo Xuanye had stepped out and was standing beside the car.
Before Li Su even reached him, his arms were already stretched out, ready to pull her into a hug.
They embraced.
Lin Yaoqing’s lips twitched. Hadn’t she just said their relationship seemed distant?
And now Li Su was making her eat their PDA for breakfast?
(ˉ▽ ̄~) Whatever~
When it came to dating history, she’d had five, six, seven, eight boyfriends, she wasn’t losing in that department.
Once in the car, Li Su leaned against Huo Xuanye, her eyes fixed on her phone screen.
“I’m right here. Why are you still looking at our chat history?”
“Look at me!”
“Wife, look at me!”
Li Su suddenly grew curious. “What’s my contact name in your phone?”
“Before, it was ‘Sis-in-law.’ Now it’s ‘Wife.’”
“I wasn’t asking about before!”
Huo Xuanye wrapped an arm around her waist. “I thought you were curious. At the very, very beginning, it was just ‘Li Su’, same as how you have me saved now. ‘Huo Xuanye.’ You always call me by my full name. The unloved one doesn’t get to make demands…”
Li Su had been about to change it, but hearing his words, she decided against it.
Just as she turned off the screen, Huo Xuanye buried his face in the crook of her neck.
“Change it, please? Wife~”
Li Su turned the screen back on. “To what?”
“Husband.”
“No, that’s not enough. Change it to ‘Dearest Hubby.’”
Li Su stayed silent.
Huo Xuanye murmured against her neck, “Let’s auction it.”
“What?”
“The renaming rights. Tell me what I have to do to make you change it. I’ll do anything.”
He didn’t mention money, because he knew Li Su, as the heiress of a wealthy family, had never lacked for it growing up.
“Sure, but I don’t have anything I want you to do right now. Let me change the nickname first. I’ll save this opportunity for later, I’ll let you know when I think of something.”
“Okay.”
Huo Xuanye stared eagerly at Li Su’s phone screen, curious to see what nickname she would choose.
