- Chapter 35 - My Wife Brought Me a Love-Filled Lunch
Huo Xuanye glanced at Li Su beside him. “Wife, did I make you cry?”
Li Su replied lightly, “Didn’t you?”
Li Chen instantly stood up, startling both Mr. and Mrs. Li.
It looked like he was about to flip the table any second.
“Brother, calm down, that’s not what I meant,” Li Su hurriedly explained.
“Then what did you mean? Your brother may be a science major, but my Chinese is still pretty good. The way you two were talking just now clearly implied he made you cry!”
Li Chen roared in fury, “Huo Xuanye, I’ll kill you!”
Li Su quickly stood up to block the furious Li Chen. “Brother, I meant between husband and wife, not what you’re thinking. You’ll understand once you get married someday…”
Li Chen looked blankly at Huo Xuanye behind Li Su. “You two…?”
Huo Xuanye held Li Su’s slender, pale wrist and smiled. “Brother, just some marital fun. Sorry, I’ll be gentler next time.”
Mr. and Mrs. Li: “…”
What exactly had they just heard?
Li Chen’s ears turned red. “Little sis, you should explain things more clearly next time. Otherwise, misunderstandings can easily happen.”
It was all Huo Xuanye’s fault for always being so shameless. The way he phrased it had forced her to respond like that.
Her brother couldn’t stand seeing her wronged and was ready to throw hands immediately.
“It’s all my fault. Let me toast to you, brother,” Huo Xuanye poured a drink. “And I hope you meet someone you like soon.”
Li Chen drank with a dark expression. “Just focus on taking care of yourself and my sister.”
Huo Xuanye downed his drink in one go. “Don’t worry, brother. I’ll take care of her for a lifetime.”
Li Su silently watched him.
Her whirlwind marriage partner was taking this seriously.
After lunch, Li Su and Huo Xuanye tried on the traditional Chinese wedding attire, phoenix coronets and embroidered robes, that Mrs. Li had prepared for them, then went to a classical-style garden for photos.
They spent the entire afternoon shooting, exhausting them so much that they collapsed into bed as soon as they got home.
The next day, Li Su returned to the dance studio for the first time in a while.
Huo Xuanye kept texting her.
[Huo Xuanye: Wife, can you come over at noon? Something really important.]
[Li Su: What is it?]
[Huo Xuanye: You’ll know when you get here.]
[Li Su: If it’s not important, you’re dead!]
[Huo Xuanye: It’s absolutely, definitely, especially important!]
Li Su narrowed her eyes. If it was really that important, why didn’t he just come to her?
She was skeptical of Huo Xuanye’s words.
At 11:50 a.m., Li Su arrived at Huo Corporation’s building.
The moment she stepped out of the car, Huo Xuanye emerged from his own, holding a newly bought lunchbox filled with food Zhuang Ze had just picked up from a Chinese restaurant.
Huo Xuanye’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Wife, let’s have lunch in my office. You don’t mind, right?”
“Not at all.”
Huo Xuanye lifted an arm. “Hold onto me.”
Li Su looped her arm through his, and they walked into the company building together.
“Huo Xuanye, did you call me here just to stake your claim?”
In the past, Li Su had come to Huo Corporation for Huo Zhenzhou.
Today, it was for him.
Huo Xuanye gave a soft “Mhm.”
“Assistant Huo, your wife brought you lunch? How sweet!”
“Who knew Miss Li could cook as well as dance?”
Huo Xuanye preened proudly. “My wife is perfect at everything. She just didn’t feel like doing it before. But now it’s different, she adores me.”
Li Su: “…”
Huh?
Me?
Perfect at everything?
Adore you?
“Huo Xuanye, do you dare admit that the lunchbox in your hand was brought by yourself?”
“Are you seriously using all 108 of your cunning schemes on something like this?”
In a place Li Su couldn’t see, someone snapped a photo of their retreating figures and uploaded it to the company’s gossip group. Soon, all the employees of the Huo Corporation knew that Li Su had come to deliver lunch to Huo Xuanye.
Childish.
Taking the CEO’s private elevator upstairs, Li Su and Huo Xuanye ran straight into Huo Zhenzhou, who had just finished a meeting.
The excitement in Huo Xuanye’s voice was impossible to hide. “Bro, my wife brought me lunch. I won’t be joining you guys at noon.”
Huo Zhenzhou’s gaze was indifferent. “Can you cook?”
Huo Xuanye’s heart instantly tightened. Would his wife expose him?
He was just envious of those who brought lunch to his brother. He just wanted to show off.
A big, fat flex.
Li Su, will you stand by me on this?
“Bringing food doesn’t necessarily mean you have to cook. It’s the thought that counts, and he’s happy with it.” Li Su tilted her head. “Right?”
Huo Xuanye eagerly agreed. “Right! My wife brought me lunch, I’m over the moon!”
“Bro, we’ll head off first!”
For a moment, Huo Xuanye thought his brother had regained his memories and realized Li Su couldn’t cook.
Mechanically, Li Su followed Huo Xuanye into his office.
Huo Xuanye took out the lunchbox while Li Su lazily set down her bag, her eyes scanning the room before landing on his desk.
She picked up a photo frame on the desk and found it was a picture of herself.
That photo had previously been on Huo Zhenzhou’s desk.
Huo Xuanye noticed her. “My brother lost his memory. It wasn’t appropriate for this photo to stay in his office, so I took it. Don’t worry, he doesn’t know.”
His words reminded Li Su of something.
Huo Zhenzhou had lost his memory, but nothing at home had changed.
After his return, with all those photos and mementos of their shared memories around, Huo Zhenzhou couldn’t have missed them.
He was slowly regaining his memory, with so many triggers around yet he still hadn’t remembered her.
Fine, if he couldn’t remember, then so be it!
They were both married to other people now!
“Wife, come here.”
Li Su set down the photo frame and joined Huo Xuanye on the sofa for lunch.
After a leisurely meal, he pulled her onto his lap.
In front of her was the wide expanse of his desk, behind her was Huo Xuanye’s broad chest, and his strong arms encircled her.
Li Su felt like a caged canary at that moment.
If she’d known she was just here to indulge Huo Xuanye in such a childish game, she wouldn’t have come.
Li Su raised her hand and lightly tapped Huo Xuanye’s face, less of a slap and more of a teasing caress.
“After eating, you should rest. I need to rest too. Let me down.”
“Stay with me a little longer, then I’ll let you rest.” Huo Xuanye opened a drawer and pulled out a red scroll.
What was he up to?
Huo Xuanye unrolled the scroll. “Lately, Mom and Dad have been busy with my brother’s wedding, so I thought we could write our marriage certificate together. Would you like that?”
No wonder there were brushes, ink, and paper on Huo Xuanye’s desk today.
Li Su was surprised. “You’re writing it?”
“Don’t underestimate me. My calligraphy isn’t bad.”
The midday sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows into the spacious, bright office. The black desk cast a shadow on the light gray floor, while the central AC hummed softly, blowing cool air.
At the desk, Huo Xuanye picked up a brush. “I’ll write the main text. You write the date and our names. Okay?”
Was Huo Xuanye serious?
Nowadays, many couples don’t even bother with marriage certificates when they get married.
Where did Huo Xuanye learn about such traditional customs?
A strange feeling rose in Li Su’s heart: “Don’t you think it’s odd for a marriage certificate to have two completely different handwriting styles?”
