- Chapter 24 - We're Trying for a Baby. Are You Planning to Too?
“A-Zhou.”
Hearing the elderly lady’s voice, Huo Zhenzhou looked up. “Grandmother, let’s just let things happen naturally when it comes to children.”
As the eldest grandson of the Huo family, Huo Zhenzhou bore the responsibility of continuing the family line.
Back when Huo Zhenzhou was with Li Su, she was beautiful, had a great figure, came from an excellent family, and had a high education, she was perfect in every way.
But Li Su had one fatal flaw.
The elderly Madam Huo had once overheard Li Su telling Huo Zhenzhou that she was still young, wanted to dance, and aimed for bigger stages. Even if they got married, she wouldn’t have children for several years.
Huo Zhenzhou had even agreed to this.
Getting married but not having children while young? Li Su wanted to focus on her career, utterly inconsiderate.
Now that Huo Zhenzhou had a new wife, Zhou Motang, an orphan with an ordinary background, she was more than willing to have children.
Madam Huo greatly appreciated Zhou Motang’s attitude.
In Zhou Motang’s eyes, Huo Zhenzhou was the most important, and bearing his children was her top priority.
The Huo family could afford it, more children meant more blessings.
As for Li Su and Huo Xuanye, Madam Huo no longer had the energy to worry about them.
Huo Zhenzhou’s matters were already enough of a headache.
Old Master Huo changed the subject. “A-Zhou, since coming home, have you remembered anything?”
“Yes.”
Zhou Motang’s heart skipped a beat, her chopsticks gripped tightly. What had Huo Zhenzhou remembered? Was it something from his past with Li Su?
“This afternoon by the pool, I recalled how Grandfather taught me and A’Ye to swim. A’Ye was being mischievous and pretended to drown, scaring Grandfather half to death. When he realized it was just an act, Grandfather punished him by making him stand in the corner without food. Later that night, I secretly brought him something to eat.”
Zhou Motang let out a sigh of relief.
Old Master Huo laughed heartily. “Good, good! Remembering something from over a decade ago, your memory will come back.”
Madam Huo pressed further, asking if Huo Zhenzhou had recalled anything else…
Meanwhile, Li Su changed her clothes and quietly slipped into the audience, sitting beside Huo Xuanye.
“Wife, you’re here.”
“You danced so beautifully just now. To me, you’re the most, most, most, most, most, most, most amazing dancer in the world.”
Huo Xuanye held Li Su’s hand and showered her with praise.
He had to say it to her face so she could hear it.
Otherwise, if she just scrolled through her phone, she’d see all the compliments from her fans, and his words would lose their impact.
Li Su couldn’t pull her hand free, so she gave up and let him hold it. “Tell me honestly, why did the host call on you earlier?”
“Because she was asking on behalf of all the fans who care about your new husband.” Huo Xuanye didn’t dare admit he’d paid for it, afraid Li Su would be angry.
His thumb gently stroked the back of her fair hand. “I dressed up extra carefully tonight. Didn’t embarrass you, did I?”
“No, you looked very handsome.”
Li Su’s lips weren’t just sweet and soft when kissed, they also knew just the right things to say.
Why wasn’t the gala over yet? He wanted to steal another kiss from his wife.
But in public, afraid of being caught on camera, Li Su would surely push him away.
Huo Xuanye had to restrain himself.
Compared to Li Su, he wasn’t a very attentive audience member.
Li Su watched the performances on stage, while he watched her.
Unbeknownst to them, the live broadcast camera swept over the couple several times, sending their “Li-Ye” shippers into a frenzy.
After the gala ended, the group went out for a late-night snack before heading home.
Amber morning light spilled over the villa’s roof as a summer breeze lifted the sheer white curtains. Crystal dewdrops clung to flower petals, refracting pearl-like halos, while the nearby pool shimmered with ripples. The air was a blend of breakfast aromas and the scent of greenery, wrapping Huo Manor in serene tranquility and lazy contentment.
In the second-floor bedroom, Li Su nestled in Huo Xuanye’s embrace. After every performance, her tense body and mind would relax, and all she wanted was to indulge in a long, comfortable sleep.
But…
Why hadn’t Huo Xuanye gotten up yet?
Huo Zhenzhou had said that the brothers always met in the gym in the mornings!
Had he given up on fitness management right after getting married?
Huo Xuanye, half-asleep, vaguely sensed Li Su stirring. Without even lifting his eyelids, he pretended to still be asleep, pulling her hand under his pajamas and letting it wander over his waist and abdomen.
Li Su abruptly opened her eyes to look at him. Though Huo Xuanye’s stomach felt soft, she keenly sensed danger and stopped moving her hand.
“Stop pretending if you’re awake.”
Huo Xuanye buried his face against her shoulder with a lazy groan, putting on the act of having been woken by her. “Good morning, sweetheart…”
Li Su murmured, “It’s not the weekend. Aren’t you getting up?”
Huo Xuanye whined, “Don’t wanna…”
“Huo Xuanye, where’s your sense of urgency? You swore you’d fight for the inheritance. Huo Zhenzhou went back to work even before his memory fully recovered, how dare you laze around?”
Since he had set this persona himself, Huo Xuanye had no choice but to obediently get up.
He sat up, took in Li Su’s breathtaking beauty, then flopped back down, wrapping her tightly in his arms.
“Just a few more minutes…”
Being forced to leave bed while holding such a beauty was pure cruelty.
This piece of meat, he hadn’t even gotten a taste yet.
Letting him savor the scent was already a luxury.
Feeling Huo Xuanye drifting back to sleep, Li Su decided not to care. The inheritance wasn’t going to fall into her hands anyway, so she closed her eyes and dozed off again.
When she woke later, Huo Xuanye was already gone.
Li Su leisurely got up, freshened up, changed, and headed downstairs.
Uncle Xu spotted her and immediately instructed the kitchen to serve breakfast.
Li Su ate alone in the kitchen, scrolling through replays of last night’s livestream while she ate.
“Su Su, you’re awake.”
Zhou Motang walked into the dining room and sat beside Li Su, asking a servant to bring her a glass of water.
Li Su replied calmly with a single word: “Mm.”
“Su Su, do you want this?”
Zhou Motang held out a small yellow pill in her palm.
Asking if she wanted medicine?
Though confused, Li Su politely declined, “Thanks, but I’m healthy. I don’t need it.”
Zhou Motang took the pill herself. “Honestly, I don’t really understand either. Grandma told me to take this, it’s folic acid, supposed to prevent fetal deformities.”
Li Su turned to look at her, surprise flickering in her eyes. “You’re pregnant?”
“Not yet. We’re trying.” Zhou Motang smiled sweetly. “What about you and A’Ye? Aren’t you preparing? Men in their line of work are always socializing, smoking, drinking, it’s really bad for the baby. You should take folic acid too.”
Trying for a baby…
Huo Zhenzhou had once promised her they wouldn’t have kids for years.
Now that he’d lost his memory and married someone else, his stance had changed.
“No, we’re not planning for children anytime soon.” Li Su resumed eating and watching her video.
She was reviewing her own performance, admiring her artistry.
After a hundred days, stepping back onto the stage, she was afraid she wouldn’t perform well. With over a decade of dance experience under her belt, she gave herself a 90 for last night’s performance, the remaining 10 points withheld to keep herself from growing complacent.
Zhou Motang wore a regretful expression. “That’s a shame. I’ve seen online how fun it is when best friends get pregnant and have babies together. It would’ve been so nice if we could’ve been pregnant at the same time for company. But you’re a dancer, pregnancy and childbirth would affect you a lot. A’ye is really good, though. He respects your wishes.”
She made sure to praise Huo Xuanye in front of Li Su. If Li Su were to shift her affections and fall for Huo Xuanye, it would be good news for her too.
“The Huo family is big, there are plenty of people to keep you company, sister-in-law. No need to feel anxious or afraid.” Li Su finished her orange juice and stood up to leave. “I’m still a bit sleepy, going to catch up on some rest.”
Sleeping until ten in the morning, what was she so tired for?
She just couldn’t stand hearing about Zhou Motang and Huo Zhenzhou trying for a baby.
A faint smile curled at Zhou Motang’s lips. If only Li Su could be more sensible and stop provoking Huo Zhenzhou on her own.
