- Chapter 1 - The Fiancé Who Disappeared for Three Months Returns with Another Woman
“Miss Li, the young master has just returned. Perhaps you should visit another day.”
Old Xu, the butler of the Huo family residence, tried to stop Li Su.
“He’s been missing for three months, Uncle Xu. You know how worried I’ve been. I can’t wait another second!”
Li Su impatiently rushed inside.
She had been practicing in the dance studio when she received the news. Without even changing her clothes, she hurried to the Huo family home, desperate to see her fiancé, Huo Zhenzhou, as soon as possible.
As she entered the grand hall, her footsteps gradually slowed.
Her eyes widened in disbelief at the sight of Huo Zhenzhou on the sofa. Three months had passed since she last saw him—the once dignified, elegant man who had never allowed any woman near him except her—now tightly holding another woman’s hand.
“Zhenzhou.”
Li Su called his name softly. “Who is she?”
“Who are you?” Huo Zhenzhou shot back.
“You… don’t recognize me?” Li Su took slow steps toward him. “I’m Li Su. Your fiancé.”
The moment the words left her lips, the woman beside Huo Zhenzhou stiffened, raising her eyes to look at Li Su.
Zhou Motang had never seen a girl as beautiful as Li Su—her fair skin, tall figure, thick hair, delicate features that made her look like a porcelain doll. Even in her simple dance studio attire, she was radiant.
Compared to Li Su, Zhou Motang felt like an ugly duckling beside a swan—utterly outmatched.
Had Huo Zhenzhou really been engaged to such a stunning woman? Was his relationship with her merely due to his grandfather’s dying wish?
Zhou Motang quickly lowered her head, pressing closer to Huo Zhenzhou.
No matter how beautiful Li Su was, she and Huo Zhenzhou were already legally married!
They were husband and wife now.
Huo Zhenzhou’s expression remained blank as he murmured her name. “I’m sorry. I’ve lost my memory.”
Lost his memory??
Li Su couldn’t believe it. She turned to the elders of the Huo family standing nearby.
Madame Huo, Xiao Qiyu, nodded apologetically. “Su Su, we only just found out too. I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t remember having a fiancé. As it stands, I’m already married. You should forget about me.” Huo Zhenzhou raised his and Zhou Motang’s intertwined hands. “Let me introduce to you, my wife, Zhou Motang.”
Li Su stood frozen.
She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Her fiancé had disappeared for three months, only to return with a wife? Such a ridiculous, soap-opera-worthy twist was happening to her?
Was this some kind of cruel joke?
“Hello, Miss Li.” Zhou Motang greeted her in a soft voice. “He lost his memory, and I didn’t know he had a fiancé. But now we’re legally married, and we’ve already… consummated the marriage. Please, let us be together…”
“Ahem!”
Old Master Huo Qiangcang cleared his throat twice, signaling for her to stop.
But Zhou Motang didn’t understand his displeasure.
She continued, “Miss Li, you’re so beautiful. Even without Zhenzhou, you’ll surely find someone else who loves you. But I’m different… he’s all I have. Please, don’t hold it against him. We’ll always remember your generosity!”
Huo Zhenzhou frowned slightly. “Motang, we’re married. We’re husband and wife. She and I were only engaged, it’s not like we tied the knot. Why are you begging her?”
Huo Zhenzhou had always been proud. Even without his memories, that part of him remained unchanged.
Zhou Motang’s humble and pleading attitude irritated him deeply.
The stark contrast between Huo Zhenzhou’s past indulgence toward her and his current cold indifference was like a knife to the heart.
Li Su’s chest ached, her eyes brimming with tears as she forced herself to remain composed. “You’re right. Since you’re married now, there’s nothing left between us.”
“Grandpa Huo, Uncle Huo, Aunt Xiao, I have dance practice to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”
With those words, Li Su turned away stubbornly, but unbidden tears slipped from the corners of her eyes.
Don’t cry!
Li Su, don’t you dare cry!
It’s just a man!
There are so many men in the world, it’s not like you can’t live without Huo Zhenzhou.
Xiao Qiyu walked Li Su out. “Susu, you’re a good girl. Our Huo family has wronged you in this matter. We had no idea that after disappearing for three months, he’d return with a wife! The law these days, just an ID card is enough to get married.”
If Huo Zhenzhou hadn’t gone to register his marriage, they might never have found him.
Three months ago, the cruise ship Huo Zhenzhou was on encountered a storm. He was swept overboard and washed ashore on an unknown island.
Zhou Motang was a resident of that island, the one who had saved him.
According to Huo Zhenzhou, Zhou Motang had lived with her grandfather, but now he had passed away, leaving her an orphan with no one but Huo Zhenzhou to rely on.
She played the pitiful victim in front of them.
And since Huo Zhenzhou himself acknowledged their marriage, there was nothing the elders could do.
“I’ve always liked you. It’s a shame we weren’t destined to be mother and daughter-in-law.” Xiao Qiyu held Li Su’s hand. “I believe that once he regains his memory, he’ll regret this. The wife he brought back is not even one ten-thousandth of the woman you are.”
“Auntie, everyone must face the consequences of their choices. None of us can predict the future.” Li Su opened the car door. “I should go now.”
Xiao Qiyu watched as Li Su’s car drove away and let out a heavy sigh.
Ah…
Night fell.
The lively bar was filled with music and chatter, the shifting lights creating an electric atmosphere.
But Li Su stood apart from the revelry, sitting alone in a booth, drowning her sorrows in alcohol.
She lifted her glass and muttered to herself, “Hah, lost his memory, got married, so what does that make me? What am I supposed to be—”
Three months. That was all it took for another woman, a complete stranger, to take root in Huo Zhenzhou’s heart.
Li Su threw her head back and downed the drink in one go. Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, and a face strikingly similar to Huo Zhenzhou’s appeared before her.
This man looked two or three years younger, with a small black mole on the tip of his nose. His deep-set eyes reflected her own heartbroken, weary expression.
Huo Xuanye gently took the empty glass from her hand. “You’re drunk. Let me take you home.”
Li Su stared at his face, two silent tears rolling down her cheeks.
Earlier that afternoon, he had been in a company meeting. When he returned home for dinner, he met his brother, and the wife he had brought back from the island and learned what had happened at home earlier.
Under the hazy bar lights, Li Su’s long hair cascaded over her shoulders, her red-rimmed eyes glistening with tears that fell like broken pearls down her pale cheeks. She looked utterly heartbreaking.
His brother had lost his memory and apparently his mind too.
To abandon such a beautiful fiancée at home and marry some random woman instead.
This wasn’t ancient times… who still believed in repaying life debts with marriage?
Huo Xuanye couldn’t stand seeing the delicate beauty in tears, each drop seemed to fall directly onto his heart. Irritated and restless, he snapped, “What are you crying for? Isn’t it just his face you’re obsessed with?”
“I’m his brother. No one in this world resembles him more than I do. Marry me, and I’ll be his substitute, I’ll let you see that face every single day!”
