Am I Really Wanted by Anyone? - Chapter 7
“Ten ogres have appeared to the southwest. They’re large and seem to be attempting to breach the walls by breaking them down. The walls might not hold for even an hour against ogre strength.”
“Have the nearby residents evacuated?”
“Of course. Currently, the watchtowers on the walls are attacking with fire arrows and catapults to prevent the ogres from approaching.”
“Understood. Marilyn and I will be enough.”
As I said this, I opened the room’s window and leaped out into the garden.
“Lady Ginette, here you go.”
Three servants waiting in the corner of the garden brought over a greataxe and armor.
I took the greataxe in one hand and prepared for battle.
Leo Barbet watched with a grim expression.
Katie, observing from the side, seemed worried, thinking, “Can he really manage in this territory? Will he come to dislike the young lady?”
I took a dragon flute from my pocket and blew into it vigorously. Then, Marilynette Green flew over from the stables to me.
“Marilyn, it seems ten ogres have appeared. To the southwest.”
Groooowl.
Marilynette Green let out a cry as if in response, so I mounted her and headed straight for the southwest watchtower where the ogres were.
“…There they are.”
An ogre holding a large stone came into view. Led by an ogre about three meters tall, they were trying to break down the walls.
These ogres seemed to have enough intelligence to lead a group.
From the watchtower, they were attacking the ogres with magic and catapults.
I asked Marilyn to circle behind the ogres, then leaped while holding my greataxe, using the force of my descent to cleave an ogre in two with a single strike.
“One down.”
Marilynette Green grabbed another ogre’s arm in her mouth, swung it around while rapidly ascending, then slammed it down with great force.
Beside her, I swung my axe horizontally, slicing through an ogre’s back. Large ogres move slowly, making them easy to take down with a greataxe.
If they were smaller magical beasts, a sword would be better.
The remaining ogres turned toward us, picking up stones from the ground and throwing them at us.
While dodging the attacks, I created an ice spear and threw it.
The ice spear grazed the ogre’s face, causing it to drop the stone it was holding.
The enraged ogre tried to crush me, but as it crouched down, I leaped over it while simultaneously striking it down with my axe.
The other ogres were taken care of by attacks from the walls and Marilynette Green.
“Thank you, Marilyn. You saved me.”
I thanked Marilynette Green and patted her, whereupon she let out a growl, tossed a piece of meat into the air, breathed fire to cook it, then caught it in her mouth again.
It seems she was securing food to bring back to the stables.
After wiping the blood off my axe and cleaning it, I returned to the courtyard with Marilynette Green and went back to my room.
We never know when magical beasts might attack or what kind might appear.
That’s our everyday life.
I want Lord Leo to understand this ordinary life of ours.
The next day, when I went to the dining hall for breakfast, Lord Leo was there.
“Lord Leo, good morning.”
“…Lady Ginette, good morning.”
Our territory’s breakfast lacks aristocratic extravagance and follows military style. That means we eat the same menu in the same dining hall as the other soldiers. Occasionally, I get extra fruits or sweets.
We took our breakfast and sat down.
“Lady Ginette, what will we be doing today?”
“Well, in the morning we’ll train with everyone. From the afternoon, let’s patrol the territory.”
He looked somewhat relieved. Did he think I’d throw him into a horde of magical beasts from the very first day?
No, my father might have done that. In fact, he’s done it in the past, causing several prospective fiancés to quickly leave this land.
If he can get used to life in the territory and the attacks within a month, that would be good.
Come to think of it, this morning’s training is with weapons, but tomorrow is magic training.
The instructor is very strict, so I’m worried whether he’ll be able to handle it.
